Thank you so much for all your support. I am so so soooo pleased, ecstatic to have her back. Think I have only just stopped shaking. She has had a well needed bath, she was black! Dont think she was too pleased about that! Then polished off half a cold roast beef joint and 6 bonios as still turned her nose up at her food! She has address on her collar, will make sure she wears that in future, even just for a wee and will be insisiting my parents gets her microchipped. All her other dogs have always been so suprised she didnt get this done. Thank you all so much for all your support, been a massive help.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Great news - I'm so pleased that Willie has been 'found'. Folly, thanks for letting us know. Julie, I'm so pleased for you - you did all the right things to get this girl back home, especially at the vital moment - WELL DONE. It sounds as though you had some wonderful support from DL Helpers and local residents - the owner of the meadow sounds a lovely, caring lady. It says that this girl isn't chipped or tagged, is this correct? If so, could Willie have a chip and an ID tag on her collar as a welcome home present. I realise that they wouldn't have helped to get her back any sooner in this instance but you really can't be too careful these days. Welcome home Willie and make the most of all the extra fuss and TLC!

WILLY IS HOME SAFE. What a fantastic end. She was sighted and her carer went straight there. Willy saw her and bolted but Julie crouched down and called her in a high-pitched voice and Willy ran to her and was so excited to see Julie. Julie isn't even home as I write this: she is standing in the middle of the field phoning everyone, including Willy's owners, her parents, who are abroad on holiday. We are all so delighted that we are all in floods of tears. Thank you so much to all the locals who reported sightings and went to search. We could never have achieved a better ending. I hope all of you get your missing dogs back so successfully and our thoughts are with all of you who are still searching for your loved dogs. Further to a message below. She was rehomed in the summer of 2007 from memory from a lady in Wales. Settled in very well with my parents and is very happy there. Very used to our house, this is the third time she has stayed whilst my parents have been on holiday, and I often look after her for the day if they are out for more than a couple of hours, she comes to me. She knows the walks around here well, although the area she is in, she has never been to before.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have a couple of photos which I took of Willy last year. Could you tell me how to get them to you for the site? I have notified all the relevant authorities and the owners of Somerly Estate as she may be heading that way. Willy is definitely not microchipped, unfortunately, and not wearing a collar as she was only in the garden, not on a walk. No reported sightings today but will be out searching again tomorrow. I'm Julie, looking after Willie whilst my parents are away. Had two more calls this morning, saying that they saw her in the field and in the river last night at 5pm and 7.30pm. We were still there on the footpath by the river calling her until dark, so she must have heard us but obviously didnt come. Was there at first light. One lady phoned owns large part of water meadow and we walked over all her land this morning. Ideal place to hide, private so only this lady goes down. She is searching with her dog every couple of hours. Spent 5 hours there and covered pretty much every part we could access. Back there this afternoon, as she appeared yesterday at tea time (4 - 5.30pm). Left item of my clothing, with roast beef, in sheltered spot where last seen. More posters circulated, well known to local. Majority of people I stop have heard about her. Covered Alderholt area with posters, they went up in Breamore, Woodgreen, Sandleheath yesterday. Need to get ones tomorrow to Ringwood. RSPCA and Somerley estate to be contacted. Hoping Forest Journal will cover it, out on Thursday. She did get out a few days before, but gate had been left open. She came around corner to me as I was moving the car up a couple of spaces. Very out of character, would never have thought it, nor would my parents of. She is a dog that never leaves my side when out on a walk, or round the house. Thank you all for your support. We will not give up on her until she is found.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I've spoken to the carer of this dog this morning.  The missing bitch is called WILHELMINA and was staying temporarily at the Fordingbridge home of the daughter of her owner. Wilhelmina escaped from the garden by going through a hedge and over a 2 foot wall - she had done the same thing a few days earlier but was recaptured so it seems she is capable of being an escape artist.  Wilhelmina is described as being timid and unlikely to approach strangers willingly so care needs to be taken not to spook her.  She is not food orientated although she hasn't eaten well for the past few days since arriving at her temporary home.  She was described as aportly old lady but capable of a turn of speed if necessary.  Hope these extra details help. Lots of people in the New forest area now with it being half term/Easter time.  Many will be camping and caravanning and will be out and about.  Have a look at ukcampsite.co.uk and there will be a list of sites nearby that would possibly put up a poster for youLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Does anyone have any more information or perhaps confirm the contact number for the owner is correct?  I have circulated the information via the Bernese web groups, club websites etc this evening as have done in the past for missing Bernese. Owner being out all day trying to find her.  Positive sighting at 6.30 tonight in Station Road, Fordingbridge by the bench at top of hill.  Possibility that she will try and make her way to old home in Wood green which is about 5-7 miles away.  New owners of the house they lived in before have been notified.  DW contacted - please call if anyone sees her. Given advice re scenting.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
