- e mail from Lurcher search:
Thanks to a sharp eyed member of my rescue forum, Samson is now back with his family ;-)
It would appear that Samson was picked up over the Easter weekend by a member of the public and was taken to a a local rescue centre. He was scanned for a microchip but hadn't been reported as missing - because the new owner didn't have any record of the microchip number as Samson was his (deceased) dad's dog and couldn't report him as missing to Petlog or anyone.
The member of my forum had gone to this rescue centre for a look at the dogs and ended up coming home with this dog as a foster to see how their own dog got on with him. It was only because she looked at our Lost and Found section that she realised he was a missing dog and she got in touch with me first thing this morning.
The family who own Samson had reported him missing to both Halifax and Bradford dog wardens, most vets in the area and to that particular rescue - who gave them MY number to contact in case we'd taken him in. Apart from not notifying the microchip company because they had no idea what to do, they did everything correctly and I find it alarming that this dog could have slipped through the net like this. Is there some sort of procedure to follow if people don't have a record of their dogs' microchip numbers? Is there a central base who can trace a dog's details through the owner or something?

- Circumstance of loss : Samson's owner has died recently and he has gone to live with the son and family. The other dog has also died and Samson seemed very depressed. The door was left open and Samson just disappeared out of it,
