Come on Ivan! (In the tune of come Eileen)

On Sunday 20th November 2022 Ivan a nervous Greek Harehound and much loved family member escaped whilst in the care of a pet sitter, the sitter was trialing Ivan with a view to boarding him. He was then followed- or as it would be in his mind PURSUED by a car for just over 2 miles! Ivan then ran into a field and out of sight. Ivan was registered with doglost who provided the owners with advice and support and began to share Ivan's poster on social media. On the Monday morning a sighting came in of a black dog running into a horse field some 8 miles away from where Ivan was last seen, the sighter couldn't be 100% sure it was Ivan, but then a second sighting came in of a dog by a barn belonging to the farmer who owned said field, this person had been within metres of a dog that they thought to be Ivan. Ivan's family headed over and sat in their car with the engine running in the hopes that Ivan would recognise the sound of their engine and come to them, they also looked around whilst following advice not to call or shout. That evening the team headed over to meet with Ivan's family, the team used the thermal scope and picked up a dog quite quickly, this dog was the same build etc as Ivan, his Mum and Dad talked softly and the dog on the thermal scope looked in their direction and started heading towards them but then turned and began to walk away, the dog then disappeared into a dip in the field and was out of sight. A camera and food were placed in the field near to where the dog had been seen in the morning and on the thermal scope. The resident farm cats enjoyed a feast of sardines and hotdogs but sadly there was no sign of a dog. The family, assisted greatly by doglost continued to raise awareness of Ivan on social media and lots of posters were put around the immediate and surrounding areas.
Despite the awareness raised there was not a single sighting of Ivan and no dogs visited the feeding station. Ivan's family continued to do all they could to help him. On Sunday the 27th the team headed back to the area where the dog thought to be Ivan was sighted and began to scope the surrounding fields. They picked up a heat source on a disused railway line, the view was slightly obscured by the trees lining the tracks, it was not impossible that this was Ivan, on Tuesday morning the team headed over and were assisted by Canine Capture UK CIC - advice and support for escaped dogs to carry the trap over a fence and a good distance onto the track, it was baited but unset, if Ivan showed it would be rebaited and set. The pet sitter contacted Ivan's parents on the 28th to say that a brace of pheasants had mysteriously vanished from their farm and asked if it was possible that Ivan had found some dinner, whilst it was unlikely to have been Ivan as there was no sign that a dog had pulled them down; lack of feathers, the entire brace had gone string and all, it was not impossible so a camera was set up at the premises Ivan had bolted from just in case he had indeed doubled back and found food. Then on the 29th Ivan's Dad was putting up posters and having a look around the area of the sightings when he saw what he described as the back end of a dog which was similar to Ivan's but the dog quickly went out of view. Ivan had not shown at either of the camera or trap locations. No sightings came in and everyone was wondering where he had gotten to. Then on Sunday the 4th December the totally crucial sighting Last edited: 2022-12-06 11:54:36 by #stoppettheft
