Young King Coal
On Saturday 4th February, Coal, a charcoal labrador retriever went missing on a walk in Worsley Woods, near Walkden in Manchester when he was spooked by a group of walkers
A number of sightings were reported through to the owner Matt Taylor , at a house on Old Clough Road in Walkden
He was visiting their garden, entering the golf course at the back and then appearing on their camera at the front of the house
The Lost Dog Trapping Team - UK Search & Rescue Network were contacted on Wednesday, Mandy Butler set to work immediately with initial advice and created a poster, and started sharing across many community groups across the country. Mandy also made plans to go across to Manchester from the North East on Thursday to set the trap up as I was away until Friday and other local Trapping teams were too busy to assist
Unfortunately, the last sighting was on Wednesday morning on Old Clough Road.
He'd not been to the other sighting on the golf course either. Trapping plans were postponed and postering and social media platforms were increased to wider areas
Coals previous home was in Leigh so they were alerted that he may attempt to return there
On Saturday, the sightings began again. Coal was seen running down the hard shoulder of the motorway, and also on the busy East Lancs Road, with a number of people trying to chase him. The absolute worse thing you can do with a missing dog
Then he ran back to the golf course putting him just a few hundred yards away from the house he'd been visiting since Sunday
More food was put out at the house and just after 1pm today, Coal appeared on camera at the house and plans were made to set the trap up
Early this evening, the trap was set up, baited and the garden scented up back to the golf course. 15 minutes later, Coal appeared on camera, drawn in by the baited trap and roast chicken. 2 minutes after entering the garden, his hunger took over, he walked into the trap and the door closed behind him, Coal was safe, his 7 night adventure over
A massive thank you to Matt and his wife at the house on Old Clough Road, your support has been amazing and without your help and communication and allowing us to put the trap in your garden, Coal would have been out a lot longer. Thank you also for the coffee and biscuits once we'd got Coal safe, very much appreciated
Thank you to the local community who have looked out for Coal, shared his posts and reported sightings through to his owner. I met a couple of you this evening when you came to see Coal in the trap, hopefully seeing him safe will help you get some sleep tonight knowing he is safe
Stay safe young Coal, no more adventures on your own ❤️ - 2023-02-11 23:45 Majorjet (Jan) - Area Co-ordinator - Liverpool/Merseyside, North West

- His original owner must help to search for him He wont respond to someone he doesn't know. Always use a harness and lead when collecting or delivering a dog to new owner PLUS a tight collar and lead. Just common sense really.
