Unfortunatly Forton is still missing and very much missed, its been over six months now and my girls mention him everyday.  My youngest said to me I just want Forton and Daisy for christmas (Daisy new dog).  How do you explain to a 3 year old.
Hears hoping he comes home soon.

Steph the found Spaniel you have registered on the Found section is a female, Forton is a male, if you have got the sex right on both dogs they cannot be the same.  Thanks for checking for a match on DL hope the found Spaniel is reunited back with its owner and well done for taking the time to rescue it.  I have alerted Gina to the difference on both dogs.  Jan xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi this could well be Forton. Forton is very timid around other dogs as he was never socialised as a pup by previous owners.   He either gives them a wide birth or he barks in a "get in 1st" manner.
Forton Loves people though,  Please if u have a positive sighting give me a ring and if possible I will be straight over or send a friend.
Thanks to all for keeping your eye out for him.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Saw dog just like Forton several times around poacher pub in Blackrod. Not seen for couple of weeks tho. Very shy ran away when approached maybe scared of my two dogs. Also saw similar dog on Arley Lane, Little Scotland area of Blackrod near Gallaghers pub/restaurant with a couple who had two other dogs although  dog was always some distance from them. When asked if he was their dog said yes. If I see him I will call now your posters are in the park in Blackrod

00.10 a.m.  Thanks again tazmo007 for checking the kennels for him you are a star.  Updated posters were emailed to Rescues and Leigh C&D Home is included in the list, they are very good at displaying posters sent to them, which we are very grateful. Gina glad you have now managed to post on Forton's page.   Good luck.    Jan xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I called at Leigh Cats and Dogs today. There was a poster for Forton (the most recent one, with "sighted" on) up on the board. I looked in all the kennels (just in case, you never know) but sadly, no doglost dogs there.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The posters are working, Gina had a call about a found dog today, he has been checked out unfortunately not Forton.  This boy only went missing today so at least we know it was not him who has been sighted over the past few weeks. Well done to Gina's friend and helpers for getting the posters out.  Jan x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have spoken to Gina today she is very grateful for having local help, thanks again Tazmo007 you are a star.  Gina's friend has started postering around the Rivington areas.  Forton is very familar with this area as this is where he was walked on a regular basis.  Will be emailing usual advice etc to Gina's friend to help especially with Gina being away at the moment. Also spoke to an RDR Co-ordinator today who were included in the emailing out last night of posters and information.  RDR do deal with a Rescue in the Chorley area.  Jan x  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have made many suggetions over the last few months when a dog has gone missing of buying or hiring a loud speaker(megaphone) and standing in a busy place and let everyone know you dog is missing. Its also a chance to hand out doglost posters as well.       Not sure if anyone has ever done this, or if it has been successful...but its what I would do if heaven forbid my dogs were to go missing.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Owners friend has been to the area and met up with 2 more people who saw Forton in the area as well...unfortunately all sightings were about 4 weeks ago so he may have been taken in locally or picked up by a passing car. Have advised to get posters up in local garages in case picked up by someone in a car.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Gina, I have just logged on and seen the article. Like yourself I was hoping to see a picture of Forton was surprised and disappointed to see another in his place. You should definatley take comfort though that he is talked about and someones memory could be jogged. I guess you could ring them and find out where that was the case. Also have you placed his picture in the paper yourself under the lost and found section? This could be very useful and perhaps prick someones conscience. Take heart that every piece of adverstisement you get will bring you one step closer to your reunion.  Still thinking of you x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Well it is in the post and I have got to say I am very disapointed!  I organised it and they didn't even feature a picture of my dog!!  They put someone elses in, I am so fed up.
The whole thing is a total waste of time!!

Excellent news! Fingers crossed that this brings the result we all want and Forton is home with you soon. Just a shame that it took several more pets going missing before the police decided to take any action. As for the 12 year old turning up at the vets chances are the poor thing was dumped once they realised their age and that re-sale/breeding would be hard. Looking forward to seeing the article and seeing Forton in the blue before long, good luck x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Result!!  I now have a crime number!  AND the Lancashire Evening Post are going to cover the story as well, the other dog was a Lhasa Apsa and was taken out of the garden of the owner, the cheaky theif even took his water bowl and the lead that was hanging on the washing line!!  The newspaper are going to photograph us tommorow and hopefully this will give us some news.
In a new development our neighbour has a very expensive pedigree cat that someone has stolen from the garden as well so the police are now taking note as it does seem that there is something strange going on.
One of the dogs has been returned today, it turned up at a local vet so I think this was a case of she had wandered a little too far although the owner is suspicious as she is 12 and he is wondering whether she would be hard to sell, but at least she is home.
Forton love I am trying to get u back, just stay strong boy and know I will not give up anytime soon x

How dreadful that 2 more have "disappeared" but I guess it gives more credence to the theory that poor little Forton has been stolen. I guess just get out and poster, poster, poster and spread the word & his picture far and wide. As you say it is fantastic that he has chipped, I have seen stories on here where dogs have been stolen/lost then picked up sometimes months later and their chips bring them home! I just wish I lived closer to help but if any cute cockers end up in the rescue I help with here in South Wales I will definatley check that they are not Forton. Wishing you lots of luck with the police and continued search. keep strong x  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have found out today that another 2 dogs have misteriously disapeared in our area, very close to where I live.  Both are pedigree 1 is a chiz tzu and the other one I am not sure on breed.  I am now hoping the police may take some notice although I will not hold my breath!
I have spoke to one of the owners and told him to get in touch as Molly only disapeared yesterday (she went from the bottom of the woodlands where Forton went there are some nurseries there and the guy works at one of them)
This is a horrible crime and I so felt for him as Molly is 12 years old bless  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sorry  have not updated for a few days, we have been away and  can not update from my iphone for some reason.
Thanks for everything your doing in the background, I have never heard of countrymans but I am assuming it is a magazine. (I am more of an OK reader). Any publicity is fab though.
We have still had no news on Forton, although I am more positive this week, I am figuring he is chipped and it has got to be read at some point.
Thanks again for everything you are all doing.

It is looking more likely Forton has been stolen, there has been no sightings since he went missing.  I've updated his posters and emailed to Gina.  His profile must be kept up as we know with some other dogs it can take a while before their Chip is read or a poster is seen.  Good luck we are all willing Forton to be reunited back with Gina and family.  Jan x  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Had a long chat with Gina.  Suggested some places to try further afield in case he has been taken or wandered out of the area.  Discussed scenting and if he is still in the area what to do if they do see him.  He is a nervous boy and could easily be hiding up when people are around.  Even though Forton is a Blue Roan on his papers have said they should also enquire about B&W Spaniels when contacting anyone.  They are going to contact local papers and try and get them to put photo/s in of him. Forton is on a special diet due to having a weight problem he has lost a lot of weight now as shown in the first photo, but if he puts weight back on could look like his second photo. Various size posters now done and emailed along with postering suggestion and further advice.  Sending SCENTING/MAPPING Instructions in case they are needed especially if they get any sightings of him.  Good luck. Jan x If anyone can help with the postering please email admin@doglost.co.uk with heading FORTON Cocker Spaniel PR5.  Thanks xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

We have carried around A4 posters to give out, we have rung Preston, south Ribble, Blackburn dog wardens and I am going to try Chorley on Monday as I thought they came under south Ribble.  We have even rung cleansing departments just in case he was knocked over.
What is the relevance of leaving a piece of clothing?  I never thought of this.  We are just worried as he is distinctive and there has been no sightings which we find odd, we can not believe he just disappeared into thin air!  The kids are devastated especially my 5 year old as he was bought to replace a older dog we had that we sadly had to put to sleep 2 years ago.
Such sad and worrying times :-(

Photo/s now uploaded. Gina, you are doing the right things, he may have been picked up and the finder has not reported him to the DW.  Return to the area and leave an item of clothing where you last saw him and ensure this area is postered.  Go further afield with your search and contact bordering DW's incase he has wandered into another Borough or been taken out of the area.  Have you got smaller posters for handing out?  I can do various size posters with both pics on if you want them.  Will email you postering advice and further information.  Jan x  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Posters have been put up in the local area, Dog wardens, vets, Boarding Kennels and Rehoming Centres have been contacted,  Forton has also been featured on Radio Lancashire and been placed in the evening post.  We havent had any sightings as yet and are really worried.
Forton just disapeared on a walk I was less than 10 metres away from him, one minute he was sniffing grass next time I looked around he was gone.  He was limping as he had tripped in a rabbit hole the previous day.  Forton always barks like mad if he looses me and we where not far from home and he would have gone home if he really had lost me.
The walk was very out of character for us as I walked him early that day 5.00am because I wouldn't have time to take him a walk at any other point because of alot of commitments that day.
(wish I never bothered now!!)

Gina, sorry to see Forton is missing.  Thanks for registering on DL and adding his details, we will do all we can to help you in your search.  Can you please upload photo/s or email to admin@doglost.co.uk (QUOTE ID 18395) or send by mobile phone, any problems with a photo let us know .  You need to poster poster poster the area as much as possible, we cannot stress enough the importance of the postering.  Posters can be printed by selecting Dog Poster 1 just above Dog Information (you must be logged in).  Contact DW's, rescues, vets and leave a poster (you can find vets in the area by clicking on the logo right hand side just underneath Latest Missing photo).  Dogs can be rehomed after 7 days, try and visit rescues do not rely on phone calls alone.   Great he is Chipped ensure you contact the Chip Co and report him missing and check your details are up to date. Please update us on who has been contacted i.e. DW's etc and if you have started postering.  You can leave a comment by selecting   Add a comment  just above Comments.  Good luck and hope he is  found soon.  Jan xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
