This is the write up for Lily from LDRS nickyb "Safe ๐Ÿงก Lily - a Bosnian rescue who escaped upon arrival to her new home in Streatham, London on 29th May.
This story is a little out of the ordinary!! Lessons to be learned here for rescues, new adopters, chip companies, dog wardens and us!…as you’ll see…
So…Lily bolted from the driveway of her new home. This happens fairly often unfortunately…and many will still backtrack to the home even when they haven’t entered it…in their minds, it is the route to ‘safety’. However, fears for Lily’s wellbeing were high given that she was in such a busy urban environment, fast roads and railway lines all around ๐Ÿ˜ฉ
As always, advice was given to be ready at home…AND to start postering in order to raise awareness and pull in sightings, and indeed, sightings did trickle in initially…putting Lily further North in the Dulwich area.
Then nothing. Despite a real effort from tireless volunteers postering with Lily’s owner and friend…only a handful of unconfirmed possible reports came in. Lily had disappeared…leaving her new owner, and her rescue friends from Bosnia distraught ๐Ÿ˜ญ
There were the usual upsetting bogus calls…teenagers laughing saying Lily was dead ๐Ÿ˜ …a report of a dog hit and badly injured in Herne Hill…but nothing was ever confirmed as being Lily ๐Ÿซค
Cut to 4 weeks later…and Lily’s new owner gets several ‘pings’ from PetDataBase.com to say that her chip had been accessed that day!! ๐Ÿ˜ง But where was she? Who had accessed it? Was she ok? Was this good news or bad news?
Turns out it was good news! Very, very good news!! Lily was alive and well…and had been safe in kennels for almost the whole time!! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿค—
Here’s the explanation:
*Lily arrived in the UK on 27/5
*Lily was picked up by her new owner on 29/5
*She escaped on arrival to her new home and ran
*Lily was picked up THAT SAME NIGHT by police in Croydon and taken to warden kennels
*Here, her chip was immediately scanned, but was inaccessible as it was a foreign chip at that time
*Meanwhile, Lily’s new owner was busy registering the chip to a UK database…which was all done and flagged as ‘MISSING DOG’ by 30/5
๐Ÿ˜ญBut no one knew…processing of new chip registration by the chip company isn’t instantaneous, and the delay meant that Lily stayed at kennels until she was to be moved for rehoming, and her chip was rescanned!!! BINGO!!!…all the info was there…LILY IS HOME TONIGHT AND STARTING HER NEW LIFE ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿงก
So it was a series of unfortunately timed events that meant that Lily’s introduction to the UK was a month in kennels!! But she was safe here at least…away from the roads and rail tracks…fed and comfortable…it’s just a shame she couldn’t have sent us a postcard ๐Ÿ˜‚
Many thanks to the mini army of volunteers who helped poster this highly populated area…usually, this is vital…but we are VERY happy that they can all be ripped down and binned now (do help if you see one ๐Ÿ‘)
STAY SAFE LOVELY LILY - we hope you settle well into your new home…a bit of a false start ๐Ÿ˜‚…but a real happy ending for sure"
