Surely this is a police matter and a case of recovering stolen property. The chip company has sent a letter regarding a change of ownership request, If police follow this up, then the chip company would have to divulge the name and address of the prospective owner(s). This shows that the chip is in the original owners name and they are being approached as such. surely this goes some way to proving their ownership as it was them who reported the dogs missing in the first place.

In 2009 Piglet,aged 6 and Pups aged 4 ,went missing.At the time they went missing they had ID tags and were flagged up as missing to the MICROCHIP company.
These dogs are now flagged up as STOLEN as it has become apparent that they have been sold on and passed on again.
They are still together and are believed to be in the DARLINGTON area.
Have advised reporting to area dog warden, postering the area and trying for media appeals.
Also to alert vets in the area that these dogs are flagged up as STOLEN.
Any dog that is found must be reported to the dog warden as is required by LAW or taken to a vets where they can be scanned and reunited with their rightful owner.

So hope this gets sorted out. They should take it higher with the police if they are refusing to do anything! If it had be a stolen car it would have been returned no problem I'm sure. Shame on the people who have them. True dog lovers would never deprive loving owners of their pets, even if they didn't know they had been stolen when they got them.

Sounds like the owner needs some good legal advice - suggest they contact Trevor Cooper who is an expert on dog law. if the dogs were stolen and reported stolen, the owner is always the owner and no-one else can transfer ownership, so the people who have them now are not the owners and should not be referred to as the owners. The microchip alone won't prove ownership, but if the owners have other evidence such as proof of purchase, vet or insurance records in their name, photos etc. together with the crime report from when they were stolen, they should have a good case to get them back.

What is the matter with the Police surely handling stolen goods is a crime. This makes me so angry.

Pups who was stolen along with Piglet another shih tzu back in 2009....are still together...the microchipping company have written as they had a change of ownership request for both the dogs...now in Darlington. Despite owner having a crime number on the dogs police are saying it is a civil matter again...how many times has this happened. New owner refuses to give them up...
