"Hi everyone. Hectors mom here (the Black and Tan dachshund who went missing on the 25th of august 2023 in the Melvaig area)
Sadly my beautiful Hector has not been found and our worst fears are probably true that Hector sadly fell over the cliff edge, chasing sheep. This was a freak accident that will forever change my life. We came here to have some time before the arrival of our baby in December and we did not expect this to happen.
I just wanted to say a huge thanks to everyone who has helped us, we’ve had people out searching for him, scent dogs, drones and people even searching the rocks and the beach so we could maybe have some closure. The support we’ve had has been overwhelming and we are blown away by everyone’s kindness in this area. We live 10 hours from here in Birmingham, UK and yet everyone has treated us like family. A massive thanks to Julie who owns the drift, shepherds hut (where we stayed) for putting out a fb post as soon as hector disappeared and notifying neighbours. Also to neill who lives next door to the hut, who assisted my partner in helping look for hector straight away and also went down to the rocks for us. I am 6 months pregnant so I wouldn’t of been able to - so I’m hugely grateful. To Louise Quinn who has been so lovely to me, has gone above and beyond and helped us so much. To the lovely man who used a drone, to Rod who helped aswell, to Maria for the beautiful flowers and to literally every single person who has assisted in looking for hector/shared a fb post or sent me a message. I sadly don’t know all your names but I want you to know that I’m eternally grateful to every single one of you. What amazing people.
Hector wasn’t just a dog but he was a huge part of our family and my world has been turned upside down. Please if anyone ever does find him to please contact me. A piece of my heart will always be in Melvaig now! ❤️🐾
Thanks again everyone. We head home today and feel so sad leaving but also know he is in good hands.

- Have suggested local radio station Two Lochs Radio is contacted and asked to put out an appeal on their forthcoming programmes (acknowledged by local helper).
EDIT: Appeal broadcast just after 11am today on Colin Irvine's Sunday Brunch.Last edited: 2023-08-27 11:39:05 by GeoffA - Area Volunteer - Cornwall, Scotland & Northumberland - 2023-08-26 22:02 Louise

- I have also messaged Search Dogs For Lost Dogs Scotland FB page asking if they have any resources available in the area.
EDIT: Very quick reply from the page but sadly unbale to assist on this occasion:
"Unfortunately I don't have any k9s or handlers up that way to assist, we are in the midst of training more handlers and k9s to help us cover a greater area of Scotland. So sorry we can't help on this occasion x".Last edited: 2023-08-26 18:47:33 by GeoffA - Area Volunteer - Cornwall, Scotland & Northumberland - 2023-08-26 17:56 GeoffA - Area Volunteer - Cornwall, Scotland & Northumberland
- I shared a post for Hector from owner's friend to DogLost Highlands & Islands yesterday evening and then onward shared to Missing Dogs - North Highlands. Caithness-Sutherland-Ross shire. Local community groups are also running a post to spread the word.
Myself and Gena Dodd offered extensive advice on what to do last night and today, and owners have had amazing support support from the local community with the possibility of drone support later if the whether improves.
Drone SAR for Lost Dogs UK are also aware and in contact with owner.
Added Hector's DogLost link in comments on the various posts.Last edited: 2023-08-26 18:13:39 by GeoffA - Area Volunteer - Cornwall, Scotland & Northumberland - 2023-08-26 17:38 Sharon - Social Media Volunteer

- Sorry to see that HECTOR is missing.
- If your dog is microchipped please let the microchip company know that your dog is missing and check that all details are up to date.
- Owners targeted by a malicious hoaxer demanding money for the return of their dog should phone the police on 101 immediately and contact admin@doglost.co.uk
- A photograph of your dog is essential for the website. If you have not already uploaded one, please do so by clicking on Update details. Alternatively you can email it to admin@doglost.co.uk quoting the dog's DogLost ID number: (186685)
- Obtain a missing poster by clicking on View poster above. Posters are very important so start postering now!
- You will need to be logged in to upload photos, edit your dog's details, or add comments. You can add comments by clicking on Click here to add a comment.
- Contact dog wardens, vets and local rescue centres, and in Scotland, the Police. Give a detailed description with any distinguishing marks/scars or send them a copy of your DogLost poster. You can find vets in your area here.
- If your dog has been stolen inform the police immediately and obtain a crime reference number (CRN). Send an email to stolen@doglost.co.uk.
- If your dog is picked up and taken to rescue kennels, it can be legally re-homed after seven days. Visit rescue centres in person and do not rely on checking by phone alone. Other people may not recognise your dog by your description, so give them a DogLost poster.
- Keep us updated by keeping your dog's page up to date and check for posts from helpers who may have suggestions and possible matches or sightings
