JamesH, have you visited your local Royal Mail sorting office to leave a couple of large posters and a decent batch of mini-flyers for the posties to carry with them (and the same with milkmen, if you have them in your area). Also do you have a local mini cab office? If so do as per the sorting office - both large posters and mini-flyers. These are people who are out and about all hours of the day and night, the cab drivers would hear local gossip via their customers and the posties would be aware if new dogs appeared on their rounds. Good Luck in finding your two lovely dogs. I hope it won't be long until they are back home with you.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I'm to far away to be of any help, but hope that this happy duo are back home with you soon.  I also have a flat coat retriever and would be devastated if anything was to happen to him, such a lovable bouncy breed.  Good luck with your search.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The flatcoat retriever and King Charles Cavalier spaniel that went missing on 9 June (Dogwatch 328) may have been sighted.  The owner received a call from a man in Hampstead Norreys on Monday afternoon (22.6.09) who said he had seen two 40 year old women walking a flatcoat and a smaller brown and white spaniel near the village at 10:30 that morning.  When they saw him they put the dogs on leads and turned and ran in the opposite direction. Any information to: 01635 280681 or 07850 830385 The owner appeared on BBC Crimewatch, which went out nationwide last Monday morning, to discuss this case.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I see that they were mentioned on Crime Watch this morning - one of the last items mentioned along with a joint photograph with the KC - so maybe there will be a more in-depth story tomorrow morning. Worth watching. AnneLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi James. It sounds as though you've just about covered everything you can do at this stage. As there haven't been any sightings it sounds as though they could have been picked up. This could be quite innocent - a lot of people don't know the law surrounding found dogs, but if it's not then you need to make them "too hot to handle". Have you tried putting posters under windscreen wipers of cars at your nearest large supermarket? Also, do you have any car boots locally where you could do the same? Your wife mentioned travellers in the area - perhaps you could speak to your council's traveller liasion officer and see if they would visit the site?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have placed adverts in the 2 main local newspapers this week (Didcot Herald and Newbury Weekly News) with colour pics in prominent positions. I am offering a ?500 reward for the safe return of the dogs. I have also asked to have a story run in the papers as well. I have also had 2000 fliers printed, as well as 200 A4 posters and some A3 posters which I will be getting spread as far and wide as I can. If anyone wants some to distribute please let me know. I have informed police, dog wardens, vets around the country, farmers, game keepers, pubs, shops, garages etc. If anyone can think of anything I havent done  - please let me know.   Thank you.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Annesree. When I spoke to their owner she said her husband was aware of some travellers in the locality and he was going to leave posters at nearby pubs in the hope that they would use them. If they have picked up the dogs hopefully the reward mentioned on the posters will do the trick.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have just learned that there are gypsies in the area - at Wickham - worth following up this thread I think. In the meantime, postering in my area. CamiMumLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks for your offer of help Scubabe. I'm sure owners will appreciate all the help they can get - please feel free to ring them on the number on the poster. You can certainly never do too much postering - but unfortunately I'm too far away to help with this. Thanks again :-) Alison.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I received an email about these two, as I am in the area. I have printed off posters at work and will poster the local area tonight. If the owner needs any help with scent drops, searching, etc, anything at all, please get in touch with me, happy to help!!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have spoken to owner. They are doing everything possible to find these two. It is a very rural area but they have notified gamekeepers, farmers, postman, vets, dog rescues etc. Possible sighting of one of the dogs which they are following up on. They have widely postered the area. I suggested scenting in the area of possible sighting. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

10.45 p.m.  labrador lil and alfmar thanks for the photo. Have now added it to the poster, too late to confirm with owner if it is a similar photo but it does look like her.  If anyone does speak to owner can it be confirmed?  Thanks.  Jan x  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Sandra R it does look like a puppy one but that is what the owner has supplied us with.  I've not spoken to owner myself but perhaps if they do not have a more recent one a similar one can be added or used.  Jan x  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have copied and Alfmars advice below, hope she doesnt mind, but its such good advice I couldnt have written better myself   Firstly contact dog wardens, vets and local rescue centres?local council stray dogs holding kennel give them all a detailed description of your dog with any distinguishing marks/scars.., If you can go down there each day to check for your dog that is the best thing as they only have to hold a dog for 7 days before it can legally be rehomed or in some cases destroyed. It is also worth contacting the local police as if someone has found your dog they may well have contacted them. Get postering now?..as quickly and as many as you can physically manage. POSTER POSTER POSTER!!!?I cannot emphasize how important this is, from the posters you will get sightings and lots of extra pairs of eyes looking out for your dog. if your dog is tattooed or microchipped, then of course state so in your posters, but remember to phone the tattoo and microchip people... get them to look up your details and confirm they have the best and most current contact numbers for you. And a backup if possible. Poster bus stops, train stations, supermarket/retail park car parks, pet shops petrol stations, lay by snack vans, service stations, bins, poo bins, shopping centres, take away outlets, pubs, lamposts, caf?s, garden centre?s, leisure centre?s,??.basically anywhere people go you need to poster like mad so nobody misses them? ask in as many places as you can if they will display a poster for you. Tell postman and take flyers to local sorting office for all postmen to carry while on rounds, binmen and give them a poster so they have your phone no handy? look up and call all local dog walkers and email them a poster if possible. in fact tell every single person you meet while searching as the more people know the much better chance of getting your dog back quickly. Contact the local newspaper and radio stations? take out an advert with a photo in the papers pets section lost and found. If you believe your dog has been stolen then it is very important you contact the police for a crime reference number?. And the postering publicity should have the aim of not only getting your dog home but making it too hot to handle, also check the area that your dog was taken from?..are there cctv camera?s that could have captured whoever took your dog?.      Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Spoke to owner. Flatcoat is missing along with cavalier. Both dogs went out of gate in garden and have not returned. May possibly have been stolen. Both dogs are microchipped and wearing collars. Have advised owner to upload photos of dogs so that other helpers can print off posters.    Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
