1440 hrs.  Cinfirmation that the dog is Ratty.  Ratty had fallen down a little known mine shaft between the coastal path and the sea some 40m from the lost site.  Shaft contains toxic water and fumes.  Body found by young boys climbing. Recovery of the body is difficult and may not be achieved.  A real  thank you to all at the DogLost team for advice, support and help.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have contacted locals so will help with postering the area, apparently this is a dangerous area for dogs and people so please be careful when searching costal paths and rocks, I would contact the coastguard if you have not already done so & the locals that know the area well that can give you guidence and sound advice, Good Luck for today hope it goes well for you xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Owners should now be back in the area, taken items from home including hooverbag and scenting instructuons but as there have been no sightings they  feel someone may have taken her in. Ratty has been on local radio and will hopefuly be on locl TV soon.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Zim & Jules I dont know the area but for now put posters up any where you can near to Praa sands, dogs often go back to the spot first lost or even where the owner left the car, they follow scent so I hope owner has been able to leave their scent on something other than sand and sea.
We just need someone to see a poster and remember seeing Ratty or has taken Ratty in until they have seen a poster.
Likewise check all the pounds and rescues as if pick up could be in any one by now and not just local as often people take a dog on their way home and hand over to THEIR local DW, Pound or Rescue, this is a holiday area so many incomers.
Good Luck xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi,
Will be handing out a poster to allclients that come in as some I am not in e-mail chat to.
Only problem is the weather which is meaning very few in.
Normally 4 a day.
Also mentioning it to every potential client that phones and special call to a client who was house viewing in Rosudgeon area today.
Anyone can get one up at the garden centre?
My two clients that are on the golf club committee are back from Canada and should be in this week.

Jules, that would be great.  Alison should be down early afternoon.  It would also be good to get any information on any local traveller sites.  I am not sure how we contact you directly but could you call Alison on her mobile which is 07976 925 763.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Alison is going to come down tomorrow Saturday to join our friends who are staying at the Prussia Cove camp site and to poster the area over the weekend.  Can she tie in with anyone locally to make sure what we are doing is coordinated with the area team.  I know that our friends have been out searching the loss site and asking at most of the obvious places. On advice from dog lost head office we have now put reward on Ratty.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Jules,
Poster up in Coach and Horses pub Kennegy.
A new client lives there, think her dad runs it. She will also pass on the word when out with her dog.
Have sent poster to 2 clients in Porthleven so possibly more will go up.
Other client owns the hotel that is nearly falling off the cliff at Hendra/Rinsey, she has Poster details too.
Ironic that this was the Monty search area too.

Posted on behalf of helper (GC808)who is having trouble:- Ratty is 32 cms to the shoulder and is a Jack Russell crossed with a Patterdale and has long legs and broad shoulders.  She was lost on the path from Kennegy Sands  to Bessy?s Cove and was staying at the camp site above on the cove on Prussia cove.  The last point of being seen was just before the woods that run north of the coastal path at Grid Reference SW 557 282.  The wood has been searched and the mine shafts immediately to the north with no trace.  The wood is quite thick with many rabbit warrens and fox dens and badger sets.  The Golf Course was not visited by the owners so a visit there will be very useful.  There was a report by the camp site owner that a jogger had seen a dog matching the description at 8pm on the day and some 3 hours after the loss on the coastal path beyond Kennegy sands heading towards Praa sands but this cannot be verified.  Finally thanks for everyone?s help.

Hi Zim - thanks for picking this one up, and getting the info out there to those who need it. Ratty definitely looks like a Patterdale x. Ideally need more information about the circumstances in which he went missing. So many places down there for an inquisitve dog.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Lady at Kerrierphoned me back and left a message saying that Ratty had been logged, don't think they had the name or something.
She said it read Terrier x Pat.
Which she was confused about.
Obviously means Pattrerdale is this correct do we know.

Hi,
Just spoke with Penwith Council, they had details from the owners.
Apparently this dog went missing from Prussia cove which although close to Praa Sands does not have the dangerous tides.
The owners have been in contact with Penwith twice, no news yet.

Hi,
does Ratty live in Praa sands or are owners down on holiday?
Any idea of height at shoulders of this dog please, difficult to get an idea of size from the photo.
Will e-mail around (3 clients in Praa Sands), and send photo link.
Try and get them to put some up. The golf course is another good place to poster.
Will also contact Hendra and Rinsey and Ashton clients.
Will poster Leedstown, and refresh others when rain stops.

Have a look at ukcampsite.co.uk and have a look at how many camping and caravan sites there are in the Helston area.  It should be worth postering the sites as a lot of caravanners have a dog and do a lot of walking and talking.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
