Hi. I'm just a Doglost follower/watcher. Saw that a Beagle had been found in CF44 in April, on the Animal Wardens site (265306). Wondered if it could be this girl? Sorry if its already been flagged with you.

Hi Carly have been following the search for lucy, found some interesting tips on recovering lost dogs/lost dog behaviour on American website  http://www.missingpetpartnership.org/recovery-lostdog.php   Hope it helps!   Janeen  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Call last night with a possible sighting of Lucy in Ynysybwl last Friday!!  A man read the story in the observer and said last Friday at about 9pm he was walking down Glanffrwd Terrace in Ynysybwl and was followed by a dog that was exactly the same colour as Lucy and wearing a black collar.  He said he thought the dog would follow him home but it didn't.  We went there last night and postered the shops that were open, bus stops, notice boards and lampposts.  Also posted posters through the doors of shops that were shut too (as well as a dog grooming shop).  Hope this is her.  Fingers crossed everyone for some more news from this! Thank you both for your comments.  Lucy was apparently also in the Cynon Valley leader last week although I couldnt find one to buy!  Today her story is in the Pontypridd Observer.  This is the link to the online story: http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/south-wales-news/pontypridd-llantrisant/2009/08/13/woman-puts-off-her-engagement-cruise-to-search-for-missing-dog-91466-24373859/ Hopefully it will bring some news CarlyLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks for your kind comments and congrats about Trixie. I have also been following your search for Lucy. Keep up the postering and press coverage - If someone is holding her she will become too hot to handle and then you may hear some news as we did. Good luck! My heart goes out to you and all those owners with missing dogs.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

It's quite useful to have the story staggered over more than one week in different papers - it keeps the story going in the media. Thinking of you and Lucy and hoping that you hear some news soon.

Havent managed to get a Cynon Valley Leader paper yet but have bought the Observer and they haven't put the story in.  I'm so frustrated and upset!  They told me last week that there was no space but promised that it would be in this week!  I wil call them in the morning.  don't know what to do now.  Had all my hopes on this.......Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Still no news. How can a dog just disappear?!  Everyone knows about her but no one has seen her.  I really am starting to think someone has picked her up and wants to keep her so is keeping her hidden away.  If she was still wandering I'm sure she would have found her way home. She knows her way round this area really well.  We got broken into once when she was young and she got let out (we thought she had been stolen) and she came home on her own at dinner time so I'm really sure that if she could get home she would.  She has either been hurt/killed or someone is keeping her.  I just wish they would give her back!!  Im missing her so much and cant stop worrying and thinking about where she might be.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Lucy will be a strong little girl so could be just pottering about somewhere,,i hardly see this breed up here so she would stand out,,,just do all you can and hang in there ;-) i cant imagine how hard this is for you,its like they just vanish into thin air! but as they say on here..loads come home even after longer than Lucy,,still thinking of you xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Had an e-mail this morning from someone who had seen a found dog ad in the adtrader.   I tried to call this morning but no answer.  Don't know why but I had been building my hopes up all day that it would be her and then I called just now and the owner had been found and it was a different breed dog all together.  So upset now :-(Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
hello janey
I know how you feel,,people call with good wishes for you,,this only proves they are looking out for her too, the council here only records dogs in accidents as "dog" so you need to call regular just in case the worst time is when all the postering is done and the calls have been made by 9.15am and no sightings to follow up,its a long lonely day,,just hang in there,,someone know somehting about your lovely girl ;-) is there a shopping centre near where she went missing?? i did leaflets on car windows and they didnt make a difference in bringing Alfie home, but everyone sure knew about my boy ;-) watching and hoping for some good luck for you soon,,Annabel.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks for your message Annabel.  I really hope someone does call us about Lucy sometime.  Everyone knows about her now.  I'm even having calls from people I don't know to ask about her and every we keep going to new areas to poster and everyone seems to already know about her.  I don't think there is much more we can do.  I really think someone must have taken her in and be wanting to keep her.  I'm sure if she had been killed her body would have been found and surely if she was still wandering I would be having sightings of her?!!  I really don't know what to think.  Just want her home.  :-(Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Lucy must be somewhere,,just keep postering for her! it only needs the one right person to know the information.i would also keep on at the kennels and visit if possible, just to make sure she does'nt slip through, its a lonely time for you now,,but hang on in there,,not a word on Alfie for 8 days then there he was,,good luck  Annabel & Alfie xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Went to see a beagle last night on a farm in Newport following a call from someone who saw the article in the Echo.  Wasn't Lucy but looked so much like her that my brother said if he had gone alone he would have brought it back home with him.  Glad people are looking but it's so disappointing when it's never her. :-(Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Had a call from someone today who thought a man he knows in Ynysybwl had been given a beagle in the past week or so.  He gave me directions to the kennels but when I got there only foxhounds there.  It's just so upsetting every time we get our hopes up and its never her.  Really wish someone would find her now.  I miss her sooooooooo much.  I really would give anything to have her back. Had the following message from the person who said her mother saw Lucy in Treharris: I showed my mother the pic & shes 100% sure its the same dog. She saw it on Saturday 18th July at approx 6.30pm outside the petrol station in Edwardsville, Treharris it followed her along the main road in Nant Ddu & was last seen heading north, it may of doubled back along the top road into Treharris centre or it may of continued north towards Merthyr Vale. I've passed on the details to the owner. I'v driven around the area looking but in a week she could be in Merthyr by now! I'll keep looking, hope you find her soon.
Janeen   I have postered the Treharris and Merthyr Vale area since and will poster further towards Merthyr tomorrow night.  If anyone lives in or around this area please keep an eye out for her. Thanks CarlyLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Call today from someone who says she saw Lucy in Edwardsville (Treharri) last Saturday. She said she tried to catch her but couldn't.  I have been to Treharris today and postered the area (bus stops, shops, train stations, lampposts and chinese restaurants).  Hopefully will hear something from this. Have also printed letters with posters attached today and am sending them out to every vet in the yellow pages to ask them to scan any dog that may be brought in to them that the suspect to be Lucy.  I am going to start sending these letters to all boarding kennels in the yellow pages this week too. Fingers crossed for the article in the Echo tomorrow. CarlyLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you.  I'm really missing her and just don't know what else we can do.  Had a call from someone today who said she knew of someone who recently picked up a 'stray' beagle in my area and had been keeping it inside the house hidden away.  She gave me the address and I knocked the door but the beagle there wasn't Lucy and the woman at the door said she had had her for years.  Its just so disappointing.  I really hope we hear something from the news article on Monday.  I've already lost over half a stone in weight through all the stress!!  Thanks everyone for your thoughts. Have just called to book ads in local papers.  Lucy is already in the lost and found pets section in the adtrader paper this week.  She will be in the lost and found section of the South Wales Echo on Saturday and Monday and on Thursday next week will be in the lost and found section of the pontypridd observer, glamorgan gazette, cynon valley leader and merthyr express.  Hopefully I will hear something from this.  I have also e-mailed the echo to ask if they would consider doing a feature on this although I think it is unlikely.  I have already e-mailed local radio stations and have not even had a reply.   CarlyLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

We have scented the area as per instructions and have left trails of food.  Went late last night but didnt see any stray dogs.  I am beginning to wonder whether this is her or not.  I'm just so upset over this that I can't think straight about anything and really don't know what to do next.  I'm going to e-mail local papers today to see if they would do articles although I think it's highly unlikely as I've already e-mailed radio stations and they haven't even bothered to reply.  Where is she?!!   CarlyLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Carly - this is all good news. Please read the scenting instructions again, that I sent you. It would be good if you could scent the area with your own scent, and try to find a place where you can leave a larger item of clothing, ie shirt etc with more scent. You need to let her know you are around the area - she will be looking for you, and hopefully stay around there as long as no one chases her away. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I had a call last night at 12.30 to say Lucy had just been seen near the Bryntirion estate in Abercynon.  The man who saw her is the man who saw her near the cemetery on Monday.  He tried to catch her this time but she ran into the Bryntirion estate and he lost her.  We went up there to look and then had a call from some young boys on bikes who had seen her in Penrhiwceiber.  She was wandering with a male beagle that they recognise as a local one that is always allowed to stray.  They managed to catch the dog that might be Lucy but when the male dog ran away she panicked and pulled away from them and ran up towards the Perthcelyn area.  We drove around this area but didn't see her again.  The boys did say that she didn't have a collar on though so I'm worried now that this might not be her after all and that we are chasing the wrong dog.  We stayed until 4.30am but did not see her.  I will try again late tonight as this seems to be when she comes out.  I did leave some food out and some of my socks but there are so many cats and other loose dogs in the area that I'm not sure she will get the food before them.    CarlyLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I've been out all day again in Abercynon with posters and flyers and have had someone with a beagle tell me that his friend called him last week to tell him his beagle was loose in the Matthewstown area when his beagle was actually locked in its kennel so this was likely to be Lucy.  Also a young boy told us he definitely saw her yesterday on the playing fields in Abercynon at around 5pm.  On the Monday night the sightings were: 1) outside the chip shop in Matthewstown, 2) on the Brynheulog estate in Perthcelyn and 3) outside Abercynon Cemetery.  There is so much forestry in the area that she could be hiding there.  I really hope we find her soon.  I have to work tomorrow which I am really dreading as it feels like giving up on her but hopefully I will have more calls after giving out more door to door flyers today.  I have come home to shower and change and will go back to drive around Abercynon tonight.   CarlyLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Glad to see the sightings are coming in. Your persistent efforts with posters and flyers are paying off. If you can find out where she is scavenging regularly and put down some food for her - and leave an item of our clothing e.g. an unwashed sock to encourage her to return to the area, this would be very good. And if you can get her to feed regularly in one area but have problems catching her, it may be possible to use a dog trap.

I've had three more people call with sightings of Lucy in and around the Matthewstown area (just after Abercynon on the way to Mountain Ash) lMonday night.  I drove around there until 3am this morning with my brother but saw nothing.  I will go back today as it looks like she hasn't gone far from Abercynon since Friday and she must be scavenging for food somewhere.  If anyone has any spare time please come to the Abercynon area at anytime to look for her.  Will keep everyone posted.  Thanks CarlyLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

There was a possible sighting of Lucy in Pwllgwaun today.  Not definite as the woman who called me is scared of dogs and wouldnt go close to look at the dog she saw.  She said there was a dog wandering the area all day Saturday and last night and she said she knows it was brown and white but she isn't sure if it had black on it.  She did say looked like Lucy though.  If anyone is in the Pwllgwaun or Hopkinstown area could you please keep an eye out?  I have postered the area and am going down tonight to do door to door flyers.  Thanks, Carly.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have just phoned to advise re river authority, and have also made a few more suggestions. Postering area is going to be extended as Lucy may have travelled further on. She is not a good hunter and likes to scavenge, so is likely to be doing the bins. Fast food places have been postered.

Can anyone tell me if there is anyone to contact to find out if she has been found in the River Taff?  I've spent two days putting posters up and doing door to door flyers in Abercynon but have heard nothing and am now thinking perhaps it wasn't her in Abercynon at all as I haven't had one single call.  I've just walked the Taff trail from Pontypridd to Abercynon calling her and postering the trail.  Really don't know what to do now.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks for that.  I've just called the council who said the binmen pick up dead animals on their rounds. She said that are out this morning but she will get a message to them this afternoon to see if they've picked up a dog and will get back to me.  Hopefully not.  Fingers crossed.  No railway lines close to here.  Really hope I hear something today.  Am about to post flyers through doors. Hi beagle, I think you need to contact the Highways Agency in your area ( maybe through your local council) to check for dogs run over, also if you are close to railways maybe contact the train company, I really hope this is not the case and you are reunited soon, good luck.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
