Hi.  So pleased for you.  I've been following your story as Lucy, my beagle, went missing at a similar time to yours.  It gives me at least some hope to see that you did get yours back.  Fingers crossed for some news on Lucy soon too.

I have been out nearly all day taking down posters, still more to go, thanks for the offers from people saying they will take down any they see. Whilst out stopped to speak to lots of dog walkers who were very pleased to hear that Trixie is home, they wanted to know more about the web site and also realised the importance of getting their dogs microchipped, and most aggreed it should be the law.Lets hope it is made a law soon to stop so much heartache when dogs are lost, then found but cannot be reunited because of no chip. I have been in touch with Judy and am waiting an update on Trixies first day home,i do know that Trixies daughter gave her a telling off when she got back.!!!!!

Thank goodness for some good news, it was beginning to feel like a really bad day.   I always hate these where the dog goes missing with a lead attached, and I suppose if there's one good thing about where she ended up it is that at least she didn't get tangled up somewhere unable to free herself.   So thanks to the travellers for that, for looking after her presumably as it sounds as if she was okay, and also for maybe having a conscience and letting her go - at last!    Welcome home Trixie, enjoy some TLC xx

I was feeling so happy today with Trixie home safe, even the thought of taking down all those posters i had put up did not make a small dent in my happiness, then!!! i switched to see if  on reunited site, and saw the news about Alfie, I am so upset i cannot stop crying, life seems so unfair, the saying you win some and lose some comes to mind. but i do so wish we were all winners. R.I.P. Alifie you were so loved. Lets hope some more happy endings come in soon. Glad to hear Trixie is settling into life well, bet she is so glad to be home. xx

What a day of emotions. Trixie is now back and has obviously been held as she is looking well-fed and quite healthy. Needless to say her collar and lead were removed. As Netty has said, I had a tip-off from an anonomous caller that Trixie was on a local travellers site (where we had initially handed out flyers with offer of reward.) There was no sign of her there but I then got a call to say she had been found wandering on Harlow Common and the caller had picked her up in her car. And there she was! Trixie was absolutely delighted to see me and she is now reunited with the rest of the family. After 25 days, and no firm leads, we were beginning to despair but it shows that there is always hope. I intend to have a big glass of wine and get down to removing posters tomorrow! Thank you everyone for your help with searching, postering, and just for encouragement!

Good news, TRIXIE IS HOME, Came back this afternoon from a visit to the local travellers site after a tip off, but no sign of her. A  short while after Judy had a call to say her dog had been found on the common and was in  their car, Judy said she was pleased to see her and looked okay. I will leave Judy to tell the whole story. I spent another 3hrs this morning putting out more posters and talking to people, so now have to go all over Harlow to take them down, but if anyone sees one please remove it for me. Many thanks to all i have contacted  that have been looking out for her. A very good result, no prizes for guessing where she has been.!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't often write on these posts but have just seen Netty while I was walking my dog and she thought you would like to know that I am looking for Trixie whenever I am out, be it driving or just out walking.  I'm sure there are many others like me who have it in the back thier minds that there are missing dogs (I still look for Jacob the Bracco, and spent many hours looking for Issak) so hopefully you and the many others who must be at their wits end will feel just a little better knowing we are out there searching.  Good luck! Hi all, Judy and i have been out for hours today postering in Harlow after a  possible sighting of her at Staple Tye. Lots of people said it was along way from home but when you look at all the fields she could travel across its not that far for her to go. If anybody is in this area or the surrounding areas please could you print off some posters and put them up for Judy if not already been covered, and if you could then post on here where you have done we would be very greatful . Trixie is the type of dog that would be in the undergrowth not just walking along in sight of people, it is possible she might just pop out from under bushes especially if you have a dog with you, so  please look into the undergrowth while out and about. If you have a problem getting a poster, you can email Judy  at judygilprow@aol.com any help would be great as she could be anywhere by now, and the family just want some good news for a change. We have been out to Roydon for a number of hours but sorry to say have not seen her Park at Water lane walked cross fleld to flex meadow vir old house lane and back agon. We looked along the hedges and in the woods calling her name. We will keep looking Fingers crossed for you See Lots of posters so Good job on them

You are doing such a great job, we lost our dog a week ago tomorrow (sun) and got straight onto Dog's lost they are just amazing!! we thankfully got her back after 10 hours after being clipped by a car, however she could still be on the run today if she managed to cross the road.   she was happy as a little lark out there on her own. whilst we worried sick thankfully she was only grazed and brusied from her ordeal and is now back to her old self. A relative however had a much longer ordeal which lasted 8 weeks unbelivably their dog went missing in a strange area whilst they were away. so she was milles away from home. They followed all the advice on here and finally the call came she was spotted at a golf course after someone saw ad in Vet and then picked up by DW. She wasnt chipped or tagged so they were very lucky to have got her back. Stay positive i feel so sorry for you, you must be sick with worry. Fingers crossed you have a call soon!!

We have postered over a large area Waltham Abbey, Epping and Harlow and in between. I postered yesterday near the supermarkets, in the town centre etc & left posters with the bus and fire stations in the hope someone may spot her. However on the way back I noticed that the cycle tracks in Harlow go beneath all the main roads and go by wild areas with steams and plenty of cover for a beagle to hunt and hide in. It seems that the sighting of Trixie some time ago was in the underpass area of Staple Tye, so I intend to walk the cycle tracks over the next couple of days with my other dogs as it is quite possible she could be working her way around these paths and tracks, unseen by all but perhaps dogwalkers. Anyone who walks these areas please keep a look out!

Excellent news about the sighting and great you have got more press coverage. As you have said you're going to do anyway, get loads of posters up around the area seen, flyers through doors, let all the vets know etc....yes it was a week ago, but it is quite possible someone could have taken her in in this area or others have sighted her (even if a little while ago, it still helps to build a picture of her movements). If she is still out running loose, take comfort in that time and time again dogs show us how resilient they really are, their instinct kicks in and they do well, it comes natural to them, and in the meantime their families are worried sick! As many of the Harlow helpers will tell you, Isaac the Bull Mastiff was running loose for a long while - he'd been rescued the day he escaped and had 'issues' but after speaking to Kelly once he was home the time out seem to settle him down well and he looked really healthy! And a very elderly JRT was loose in Epping Forest in all the heavy snow and minus temperatures a couple of years ago. No sightings of her at all, then one day she popped out from underneath a bush in front of a dog walker - again, this elderly dog everyone presumed wouldn't have been able to cope was totally fine. They are just a few cases of many we have seen on Doglost.....as as quick as the instinct quicked in when they were out loose, the domestication and love of all home comforts soon clicks back when they're home too! They're smart!!

We have received a call this afternoon from a lady who said she saw Trixie around Staple Tye area of Harlow a week ago! She tried to get a lead to get hold of her but couldn't and has been away for a few days. She has now seen the poster in the newsagents and called us. I am not sure if this isTrixie as she had a lead on when lost. This could of course have been removed or chewed off. After a week she could be anywhere by now, so we will poster over a larger area tonight. Please, please keep looking. We are so worried about her and wonder how long she can survive.

I got a tel call from someone yesterday that they had seen a small sandy dog running loose in Epping Green area. The description was not that similar but I left work to have a look. Unfortnately by the time I got there (I was nearly half an hour away) there was no sign of a dog. I asked everyone I could see and only the postman had seen a dog loose and that was around Epping Upland. I was unable to spot any dogs loose there either but I have postered the area in case. I intend to poster further afield when I get a minute. It is simply so dispiriting to have no sightings at all. I have walked with my other dogs in areas I have never been before calling and hoping for a little luck but no-one seems to have seen her at all. Has anyone any ideas of what else I can do?

Despite searching yesterday I did not find or hear Trixie in the area of the possible siting. Apparently another similar coloured dog has been seen in the same area (maybe lives close by) and I am thinking that it was not perhapsTrixie at all. Will keep looking! Judy

Had a first possible siting of Trixie last night from a neighbour. She saw a white animal (beagle size) lying on the grass verge of the Epping Road, between the Water Lane/Epping Road roundabout and Old House Lane. When she went back to investigate, it took off towards the roundabout and then disappeared (probably through a garden or hedgerow).  We went out looking and calling with our other dog but no joy. Will be looking again shortly. For the first time I am starting to feel some hope! Judy

Has Trixie got a squeeky toy she would respond to if she heard it and is there any open ground where she may have got snagged up with her lead?  It would be worth walking these areas and hopefully she would bark if she heard you or the toy. Good luck.

Hi Claire, thanks for the update. You sound like you are doing a fantastic job and I hope your hard work pays off really soon! The local press coverage will raise awareness more and hopefully bring some calls. I'm not around tomorrow but will make sure someone moves her page back up to the top. Have you let all farms, and also any stables, houses with stables etc around this area know about Trixie? If she is still out loose, she may well go into a barn/stable etc for shelter.

There's still no news and no sightings. It seems crazy, like she has disappeared into thin air. But we must stay optimistic and keep building awareness.
We've got our first press ad in the Harlow Star on Thursday. We've then got an ad in the Hertfordshire, Broxbourne and Ware Mercury on Friday, followed by something in the free local paper next Wednesday. This campaign runs for 3 weeks.
We've also got some editorial in the Dog World paper, which I think comes out next week.
We phoned the rail (thanks for the suggestion) - but thankfully she hasn't been hit by a train. She also hasn't been picked up by the refuse collectors, so doesn't seem to have been hit by a car. The dog pounds have all been sent posters, along with  vets, kennels and pet shops. I've tried to cover all the surrounding areas and hopefully haven't missed any. I'm now going to hit the garden centres and public places like libraries. Mum's been round the local pubs and is going to go to the garages tomorrow. 
Any other ideas very happily received
Finger's crossed we hear something soon. It's so horrible not knowing.

Have you contacted Harlow Pound (Old Harlow Boarding Kennels) if a stray dog is found or picked up by the dog warden they are taken to this pound, they do 7 days there and are then sent to one of 2 places, one of which is Wormley Kennels, the other is Mutts in Distress (Mutts in Distress are aware & have a poster up in reception). The pound has also been known to rehome straight from the pound if someone has shown an interest in a dog there. Also there is a dog training school run in Nazeing on a Friday night from the village hall by the traffic lights. A lot of members drive through the back of Harlow and Roydon to get there, it would be an idea to let them have a couple of posters as they also run classes in other areas during the rest of the week. keeping my fingers crossed you get a sighting soon. Hi Capote, we lost Trixie in the fields, farmland and scrublands between Old House Lane, Roydon and Harlow. It's a huge area, and we've searched a lot of it, but it's so vast, she could have gone anywhere and in any direction. It would be great if you could keep an eye out and put up some posters. Capote, when you are logged in, go to the top of Trixie's page, just above where her details start (id, name etc) and there is a 'Dog Poster 1' link, click that and then the poster will display that you can print. Any problems send me an email and I will send you a copy direct. :-) Sorry Claire/Judy that there have been no sightings still, but keep going, keep spreading the word and the call should come. Definitely worth posting posters to the vets etc, much better for them to see a photo and have an actual poster, like you say. Have all the local pubs been postered? Also, get posters up in petrol stations in/out of the area. Let me know when the ads/article appear in the paper, we bump the dog's page up to the top whenever press coverage, sightings etc so the pages can easily be found by anyone looking. Also, I know this isn't a thought anyone would want to consider but I remember when I looked on the map there was a railway line nearby...have Network Rail been contacted just incase....I hate having to suggest it but all avenues need to be covered. But stations will also be anoher good place to poster too. x

Hi, this is Clare - Judy's (Trixie's mum) daughter. Thanks for your continued support, it means so much to us all.
That's a really good idea about the dog track. I'm sending out posters to all the vets and animal agencies so will include the dog track too. We have phoned most of these, but I wanted to send a photo, which people could display in waiting areas. We're also running some ads in the Mercury and Star papers. I'm hoping we might jog someone's memory. Finger's crossed! xx

Have spent over 3hrs out walking with my dogs looking for Trixie, but no sightings, it is so open where she went missing, fields and fields of crops, and brambles, it is like looking for a needle in a haystack. Have checked the wooded areas along the edges of the fields, but to be honest she could be anywhere if she is crossing over all these fields.  It is possible she could be in hoddesdon, epping, waltham abbey harlow, roydon the list goes on all these places are accessible from these fields. So please look out for her if you live in these areas.Judy has been out round these fields several times and also looked in the ditches along the edge of the country roads incase she has been knocked down. It is if she has disappeared of the face of the world, no sightings or phone calls. Come on Trixie show yorself, your mum wants you home, and the other dogs are missing you.

Have spent the last 5hrs out postering, until ran out of posters and staples, shops now closed so will be back out in the morning. Judy is getting very concerned as there have been no sightings at all over the last 4/5 days of Trixie, may go out later looking where she was last seen. Lets hope she is home soon, even if it does mean taking down all those posters,(if we can remember where we put them all )

It's always a woory when a dog runs off with it's lead stil attached as it may get caught up in the undergrowth of hedges so please go back and thoroughly check in hedge bottoms and any wooded areas just in case.

Just been made aware of this missing dog.  This is across the other side of Harlow from us but we all know how these dogs can travel.  Will keep my eyes open and put the word out.  We do have friends and customers who live Roydon/Harlow so will pass this on.  Lets hope some good news very soon. x x

Have spoken with owner and advised re scenting. They've been searching the area, postered etc but as yet no calls or sightings. Dog wardens, vets, chip company etc been notified. Contact local dog wardens, vets, animal sanctuaries etc. as soon as possible so the posters can be emailed over. Pass posters to refuse collectors, milk man, post man, window cleaners - anyone who has a good knowledge of the local area and visits it often. Check for any summer fair's in the area where there will be lots of people around and you can spread the word. Netty - thank you in anticipation of any help you can give. Predominantly white with light tan ears, a light tan spot on top of head and a few light tan markings on back/shoulder. Medium build. Approx 16 inches at shoulder. Microcghipped and tagged. Loves to chase scents in wooded areas, scrub and hedgerows. Makes a high pitched yodel when scent is found. Has a much lower sounding bark at other times.

Trixie went missing at 8am on Tuesday 14th July 2009 from Roydon, Essex. She pulled away during her dog walk after catching a scent, she still had her collar and lead on (with identity tag). She is mostly white with light tan ears and markings. We are desperately trying to find her and are offering a reward for her safe return.
