I can't believe what I've just read about Alfie - so sorry to hear the terrible news. At least, as others have said, you were there when he passed away and you had the joy of having him home again, albeit for a short while. Run free at the Rainbow Bridge Alfie. My thoughts are with you Annabel. BridgetxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sorry I thought I had left a post yesterday...but it does not appear to have shown up. Like everyone else can I say you have done exceptionally well in looking for Alfie and Alfie did exceptionally well surviving ...a bond thats two way. If it is any concellation you were with him when the time came....much better than to have found him in the river.....all though his passing was premature you were blessed to see his relief at being found ...and more importantly you have closure...so many on this site will not ever have that....I do admire you as when your dog was missing and then re united you have given so many encouraging words to others...A true doglost helper!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Liz,,thanks,,,thats the only thing that consoles me today,,i did what i could to bring him home,,and home he came,,so he didnt go alone, it just seems such a waste and so so sad for Alfie to suffer and then come home to pass away today, its the shock thats the worst,,i didnt expect this one bit. i am dreading the calls tomorrow about the follow up magazine shoot,,only 36 hours later the miracle Alfie has gone and i have to tell them that. there are just no words............thanks to all who watched and shared his homecoming..short but sweet..Annabel x  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Annabel, I help at a local Dog Rescue, Yorkshire Rose Dog Rescue, and everybody was so happy when Alfie was found and reunited with you, I  e mailed all the members today about your loss of Alfie and I have been asked to pass on how upset and sad we all feel for you and your family, nothing anybody can say will ease your pain at the moment, but you were there for him on his last journey and he will know that.  LizLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

HEAVEN’S DOGGY-DOOR My best friend closed his eyes last night,
As his head was in my hand.
The Doctors said he was in pain,
And it was hard for him to stand.
The thoughts that scurried through my head,
As I cradled him in my arms.
Were of his younger, puppy years,
  And OH...his many charms.
Today, there was no gentle nudge
With an intense "I love you gaze",
Only a heart thats filled with tears
  Remembering our joy filled days.
But an Angel just appeared to me,
And he said, "You should cry no more,
GOD also loves our canine friends,
  HE’s installed a ’doggy-door"!

I have followed your story from the beginging and i too did fear the worst, but was soooo pleased to see Alfie reunited with you, i must have relayed the story to loads of people, to show there is hope. Yesterday Trixie the Beagle was reunited with its owner, i have been helping her look, and we have been on top of the world, you know how this feels when you have been searching for your beloved one. I logged on to see if she had been switched to reunited and couldnot believe what i saw, i am soooooooooooo sorry for you and your family, you have been through so much, i can hardly see to type as i have tears running down my face, where is the justice in this world, to find him and then have him taken away  again is so unfair. R.I.P. brave little man, our thoughts are with you and the family at this very, very sad time.xxxx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just spoken to Alfie's mum, the family are doing a brilliant job in their search and spreading the word.  He is in local papers.  Alfie does have a severe skin conditions which needs expensive veterinary treatment.  He is due treatment in the next few weeks and if not treated his skin condition will flair up.  Keelah family will reply to your email shortly.  Jan x  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

11pm day 3....no news I will check out this link though,,people just keep saying,,oh the weather etc, etc,,and its quite murky in this one too i have found someone with a boat and a kayak?? but the weather has made the entry to the river too muddy to get them on the water, he requested the local council clears the debris and mud away to try and help Alfie,,   not sure if no news is good news...     Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

6pm,,postered more along the riverbank,,spoke to a local boatman, who said if he did go in there would no chance of survival it was just too fast and would have swept him away quickly. I just cannot believe this has happened!! and now just have to wait and see what this week brings if anything,,Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

hello janey
10am nothing to report,, Rspca logged him too,,although they are only prepared to look for him if he is sighted and will be rescued, he is on the system now so if they are called out in this area there is a record of him. river authorities notified the fishiries on the river to look out for him too. raining here again , this is the last thing I need. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Keep thinking positive Annabel, it may not have happened the way you fear. or maybe he managed to get out further down, has frightened himself and is hiding out for a bit.   Or maybe he just took off after something in the opposite direction before you could see.   Have everything crossed for Alfie, please be safe gorgeous boy.    Sue xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

hello janey
sue,,,,this river is very wide, deep and has under currents, its very high and fast with the weather wehad,,so to be honest I can only think this is what has happened to Alfie and do not expect a good outcome, The port authorities app handle this but are too short staffed to even bother collecting him even if its reported,,so i am afraid I have postered lost more now and kept them close to the riverbank area, apart from phoning the usual,, I will just have to wait and see, 12.40pm.    Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
