hello janey
I think this thread is getting too personal,, its easy to judge others, but unless you frequent here and see what goes on,,the average person doesnt know what to do when their pet goes missing, my dog does not wear a tag unless being walked,is chipped but they dont always get home with that, can be ran over and the council do not record it other than "dog" Sammie will already be stressed to death about this girl being missing, and only those who its happened to really understand.she will have learned a valuable lesson in these few days, I admit myself to thinking,,how can you lose your dog on a walk? until July 19th when I did just this, 8 desperate days and Alfie is home,,,,we all think it wont happen to us! I now personally know it does. lets not forget why we all watch these posts..the bottom line is to help the owners and coordinators get these pets home safe,,Annabel & Alfie x  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

No worries Rough, I just didnt like to see an upset owner being made to feel like she hadnt looked after her dog, I have been on the recieving end of someone judging me on the condition of one of my dogs before{a young dog that had leukemia} well done for grooming her, not a job I used to like when we had collies and shelties, i will stick to my retrievers, less hair :-)  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sammie,I really hope you can make sure Suzy doesn't get into such a dreadful state in future, her coat really was in horrendous condition when she was picked up with a years worth of dead coat hanging off her and her trousers matted solid, not to mention the ear infection which must have caused her great pain.  If you'd taken her to groomer it would have cost you ?100+  to sort her out so you really should be very grateful that someone did it for you for nothing. She is a lovely dog-please for her sake try to learn from this and take better care of her.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
Rough
Noodle I don't believe that you saw this bitch? The person that dematted it and sorted it out was a Rough Collie breeder, dog groomer and ex veterinary nurse so she would have known how long it had taken for her coat and ears to be in the condition they were in.  It was me! You're welcome to feel however you like towards this owner.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Rough collies can become very matted very quickly especially at the moment when alot of dogs are chucking there coat, I should know my family bred them for many years, please lets not judge sammi on this. None of my dogs wear collars in the house, I have know too many accidents happening, they wear one when taken outside the house. I would be very cross too if I  my dog had been let out by children , tried hard to find it, phoned police ect and had to endure 5 days without it and slapped a huge bill beause I hadnt been given the right advice. Now the police no longer take in stray dogs there will be more and more dogs lost in the system and some of which never re-united with their owners, where we live we havnt even got a dog warden and have to take strays to a vets, but the town next to me has a council dog warden. Whats most important is that the dog is safe and home with her owners  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

its not everyday i expect kids to jump over my fence to retrieve there ball and leave my back gate wide open on there way out...i will from now on make sure she wears her tag at all times just incase this incident happens again i never knew about the dog wardens place...when i phoned the police up as i know they used to deal with lost dogs but no longer do..she told me to contact local vets never mentioned to me about contacting my local dog warden maybe they should give that kind of information out in the near future as i would of phoned up sooner! Shame such a beautiful dog had to spend so much time in kennels.  If only all owners new to chip their dogs
it is so helpful in cases of loss or theft in effecting a speedy return home. It is in fact law, I believe, to have a collar & TAG on a dog. Welcome home and stay safe now...

I think that it is one  extreemly lucky owner that someone from this site spotted her ad and contacted herWELL DONE JULIE B !!.I  have to agree with greylady- its a shame there was no tag or microchip to save this little one the stress of seperation and kennels. Its also a shame that the owner did not contact the dogwarden on the first day missing- i dont know if the same area but was this dog not found and taken to kennels by a dog warden??  they would have quickly made the connection. Well done doglost yet again team work have got this dog back home  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

What a shame this lovely girl wasn't wearing a tag with her owners contact details on it Sammie. If she had a tag on the person finding her would have been able to let you know straight away that they'd found her................ That would have saved you 5 days of worry, your ?129 reclaim fee, oh and you wouldn't have put your old girl through 5 days of stress in the pound.  In two days time she would have "done her time" and would have been up for re-homing. There is a lesson to be learnt there I think don't you? Spindle and everyone else who has been involved here - I would like to thank you for all the effort you have made to re-unite this girl.  Sian's Mum, I am so sorry that you have had your hopes raised and dashed yet again.  Take strength from knowing that we are all still looking for your precious girl.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

that ungrateful that i actually payed the fee! a week of worrying and yet makes me ungrateful! i never knew what the fee was about until the person at the kennels told me what was included in the fee (never had a lost dog before and didn't know what was included in the fee) the person on the phone did not tell me that all this was included in the fee, just that its a fee for goverment!        Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I don't know how you co-ordinators deal with reuniting lost dogs when you have such ungrateful owners. For 5 days board, feed and care, a veterinary consultation and medication for dreadful ears, a grooming session for dematting, teeth cleaning and cutting long nails, bath and dry, ?129 sounds like a very reasonable amount to me. just to let the co ordinates know that i am infact picking my dog up today just a shame about the 129.00 i have to pay for them to give me her back....thankyou shelties mum i may infact just do that from now on..dont want her getting lost againLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sounds as if this may not be Sammie's dog, if she's only been missing for a short period of time, as this girl had been unloved for some while with tangles and ear problems? Hope she finds her owners soon.

Sheltie lady asked where White House Kennels are - they are at Lympsham which is just a few miles out of Weston super Mare in Somerset. I expect/think they have a web site.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The lovely little Rough didn't look elderly to me - I'd have thought about 4 years old (?) - there was none of the whitening of the face-hair around muzzle and eyes that Roughs seem to get from approx age 5- in my experience. Can't believe she hasn't been claimed yet!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have bashed the name Princess into the search facility but no details came up. Is there more info so I can find her case notes? Is there a photo so I could see whether or not the dog I saw is possibly her?   ValLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

sian's mum
Thanks so much everyone for remembering Sian - Pat Th.. from Bristol very kindly phoned me on last Friday to tell me a friend in Weston had alerted her to a rough collie found wandering on the old airfield; the dogwarden told me she had been taken to WhiteHouse Kennels to which I rushed, with Sian's very special "blue ballie" - but altho I could logic in my mind how it could possibly be her, alas, it was not. The attendant led the dog out for med to see, and she was nervous, I think because of all the other dogs barking, but as soon as I knelt to speak and cuddle, she melted. But she was far smaller than a typidal Rough, but then again maybe a bit larger than a Sheltie, and without the  pointed features of theSheltie face. She seemed very well cared for and surely, hopefully it won't/can't be long until she is back with her family . Any news/phone call/hope is better for us than nothing at all. Any ideas how we should/could promote our search? Recontact as many vets as poss I suppose, or large boards in town centres, but they would get nicked/vandalised/need permission. love to all.
