- Blue in the newspaper ❤️
Blue the poodle was lost in the wild for four months in Salford, Greater Manchester, but was miraculously found alive and well - though, he looked like a different dog
A family's beloved poodle has made a miraculous return home after being lost in the wild for four gruelling months. Christine Lee and her father Rocky were heartbroken when the three-year-old pooch escaped from their Salford garden on August 15 and vanished without a trace.
Despite fears of never seeing him again, Blue was discovered last Friday (December 6) in nearby woods, having survived on scraps through the harsh autumn and early winter, while even braving the loud Bonfire Night fireworks. Though, his once pristine white fur had turned into a matted brown tangle, and he was so thin that 'bones were sticking out'.
Blue was finally reunited with Christine and Rocky after his microchip was scanned. In light of this, Christine emphasised the importance of keeping microchip details up-to-date. "Please keep your dog's microchip details updated and stay positive," she said. "There’s always hope so never give up."

- Well done the Greater Manchester Lost Fog Search and Rescue Team.
“ We were contacted to help with a stray poodle type dog in Salford M6 on Thursday 5 December that had been seen the night before. A Facebook post had gone online and some people tried catching him which, as expected, the dog ran and evaded them.
We placed a feed station and live camera near to where he had been seen and a scent trail mix leading to the food. Approximately an hour later he turned up and fed.
The following day, Friday 6 December, we replaced the feed station with a humane trap laced with appetising food and settled in our cars to wait. At 11.04pm, he turned up at the trap, walked around it once and went straight in. The trap door shut and he was finally safe.
Once safely inside a house, we let him out of the trap and he went to me and buried his head in my chest. He was so scared, bless him, but he wanted the comfort. He remained like that until I had to leave so I left him my jumper on top of his blankets which he slept on all night and today. He had a thin leather collar on and part of a thin chain lead. The collar was embedded into his neck and it took a while to remove. It was mostly embedded into his dreadfully matted fur but had started embedding into his skin. His fur was in a terrible state and many parts had tore out leaving red inflamed skin. Underneath all the mats he was as thin as a skeleton with all his bones sticking out.
When we got his chip details, we were overjoyed to see that this dog was in fact Blue, a poodle cross dog that had gone missing on the 15 August. He had been lost for 4 months and survived out there all this time. Through fireworks and the minus degree temperatures that we had lately, and the snow. There had been no sightings of him up until Wednesday night, the 4 December.
We had the utmost pleasure of contacting Blue’s family today. They were absolutely thrilled to know that he was alive and we had safely trapped him. We took Blue back home and one shut down little boy, Blue, turned into a frenzy when he saw his family, especially his dad who he lives with. It was such a tearful happy reunion.
We would like to thank Daniela who contacted us for help and communicated with us throughout. Also we would like to thank the lady at Coffee Capital cafe who passed on to us vital information about the sighting of Blue and his behaviour when he was acting normally and not being chased which helped us to put the feed station and trap in the right place.
With only a couple of hours sleep this morning, and none last night, we are again tonight trapping another stray dog who has been out for at least two weeks. This one definitely seems to have been abandoned. We have sadly had quite a few like this, this year especially. Please, if you hear of a stray dog who is in flight mode and obviously terrified of people, please contact us to let us know so we can help immediately.
We have not received any donations for our work with securing Blue and returning him but not everyone is in a position to donate especially with the financial circumstances and Christmas quickly approaching. If however, you can, and would like to donate to help us to get lost dogs safely home, please see the details below. We really don’t like to ask but if we don’t then we can’t continue doing what we do. We don’t get any financial help at all except from donations. All the donations go on the dogs, finding and securing them, feeding them and seeing to medical care for the strays that we capture. We use very expensive equipment which always needs maintaining and replacing. Donations pay for all of this.
