- A couple refuse to give up hope after their dog vanished while they were on holiday. Lynn, 63, and Terry, 64, Maher, from Halewood, previously told the ECHO how they are living a “nightmare” after their German Shepherd, Shadow, vanished over one month ago.
The couple had been on a holiday of a lifetime in America when their dog ran away while under the care of a dog sitter on October 12. Lynn said: “We were away for three weeks and put Shadow with a minder and the day we came back, as we were on our way to get him they phoned us to say he'd been taken out for a walk, got spooked by a firework, pulled out of their hand and run off down the Liverpool Loop Line."
Lynn and Terry rushed straight to where Shadow had vanished to help search for their missing dog. Lynn said: “There was no sign of him. We spent the rest of the day and have been out every day since looking for him.”
It has now been over five weeks since Shadow went missing, but the couple refuse to give up on finding their dog. Lynn said: “All we want is Shadow back. It’s hard to say how we're feeling, we’re devastated, he's not used to being outside. And with the weather at the moment we worry about where he is sleeping, what he is eating.”
There have been some possible sightings of Shadow over the past weeks, however they have “led to nothing,” says Lynn. She said: “There have been ups and downs, there have been some sightings but they have come to nothing and it's gone quiet from the last one.
“Dogs go feral and hide, so we are optimistic that he is hiding somewhere. Or maybe someone has found him and taken him in, we just don’t know. It's not knowing that is killing us.
"We have put banners and posters around the area and we put new posts on Facebook every day. We are just hoping that people keep sharing because it only takes one person to be in the right place at the right time to find him.”
She added: “You go on a high thinking he has been found when there has been a sighting only to plunge down into despair again when it's not him. We have had sightings all over the country, from Plymouth to Ireland. People have been so good we can't thank people enough for the support they are giving us trying to find Shadow.
The couple have issued a fresh appeal in their search for Shadow, they said: “If someone does have him, if they have picked him up or somebody has sold him we just want him back, hand him into the vets and there will be no questions, we just want our dog back.
“If you do see him phone the numbers on the posters. Please don’t try and catch him because he will just spook and run off again.” - 2024-11-18 21:28 TrudielovesMax!
- Please everyone keep a lookout, and share for Shadow. Could a sniffer do help to find Shadow? He needs to be back with his family, as he is an older boy. Please if you have any idea where he may be, please contact Doglost in confidence. He can`t have just vanished into thin air. Please help if you can. 18.11.24
Another day not knowing where our boy is. Has someone got him? Is he being treated well? The not knowing is killing us. ππ
Please be aware of anyone that is around you. Has someone just started walking a dog like Shadow?
They may have innocently taken in a lost dog and have not seen any of our posters or they may have bought him from someone. Please, please just give him in to the nearest vet surgery. NO QUESTIONS ASKED. WE JUST WANT OUR BOY HOME SAFE.
Shadow was lost in the Seeds Lane area in Liverpool on 12th October. Please help us to bring him home.
Thank you everyone for your help and support. We cannot thank you enough x - 2024-11-17 03:31 Marbie

16.11.24
Last night was hard. We received a message about a German Shepherd scared and running loose in Lineacre Road that looked like it could be Shadow. All our hopes were built up only to be dashed later on when we found out that it wasn’t him. Our hearts broke again! ππ Pleased to say that dog is safe and reunited with its family.
Where is our boy? Has someone got him? Are they treating him well? The not knowing is killing us.
It may well be completely innocent, someone found him and took him in. It may be that he was sold to someone.
Someone must know something, we don’t care who you are if you have our boy please, please just take him to the nearest vets, no questions asked we just want him home safe
Please keep sharing his details and maybe if everyone can make his picture a temporary profile picture he will be returned home. Thank you for your support.

20 days missing ππΊπ
After a very long wait, we have had a further potential sighting of Shadow π€πΌπ€πΌπ€πΌAs is often the case, people passing through an area who are not local may not immediately be aware that a dog is missing, and so information can unavoidably take some time to trickle through, but EVERY POTENTIAL SIGHTING HELPS ππΌβ€οΈ We are so grateful for people taking the time to let us know that they *might* have seen a dog who *might be* or *looks like* Shadow.
FACEBOOK FRIENDS, WE NEED YOU PLEASE! β€οΈ now more than ever.
Have you seen, or have you heard someone else say they saw, a loose large/shepherd type dog alone ANYWHERE between Knotty Ash and Halewood, or anywhere nearby any time recently? Childwall, Belle Vale, Netherley, Woolton, Gateacre, Halewood….
PLEASE LET US KNOW.
There are pieces of personal information which we won’t share, which can be used to help us rule out “definitely not Shadow” versus “possibly maybe Shadow”.
Even if you or someone you know saw a dog a few days or weeks ago, but thought it wasn’t Shadow…or they must’ve been with someone…or out on a walk…or was from a farm or a house…or just having a run in a field…PLEASE REMEMBER SHADOW IS STILL OUT THERE. He’s frightened and alone, and he just wants to be home with his family. Your information might be the missing piece of the puzzle that helps him get home safely, so please think back and if there is anything however small that you might’ve thought was irrelevant at the time, let us know and we can add it to what we have.
ππΌ Please keep talking about the missing German Shepherd, to everyone you know, so that Shadow stays fresh in people’s minds.
πΊSave his picture, share it again and again on your profile and send it to your friends.
π²Store his owners’ numbers from his poster, so that you could call in a sighting quickly if you needed to.
π€« If you see him, remember he will be VERY SCARED OF PEOPLE by now and is likely to panic if spotted. Do NOT try to catch him, for his safety please just call his family βοΈ and we will do the rest.
ππΌ We are praying for the call that provides that one crucial sighting, the one that will reunite this beautiful boy with his devastated family, who are so desperate to have him back in their arms.
Please keep Shadow and his family in your thoughts, and TELL EVERYONE TO TELL EVERYONE that he is still out there.
Once again a huge thank you to everyone who has been so kind in sharing and sending good wishes. Please forgive us if we can’t reply to all messages and comments, no offence is intended but we are working around the clock to do whatever we can to try to support Shadow and his lovely family.

28.10.24 Media coverage in the Liverpool Echo
A sitter took our dog for a walk, he hasn't been seen since
Lynn and Terry left their dog with a sitter while they went on a dream holiday, but got a devastating call when they came home
A couple’s world fell apart after they landed back from their “dream” holiday and were told their dog had run away. Lynn, 63, and Terry, 64, Maher, from Halewood, told the ECHO how they are living a “nightmare” after their German Shepherd, Shadow, vanished over two weeks ago (October 12).
Lynn said: “We came back from a fantastic time in America, despite two hurricanes, but we came back to a worse storm. We were away for three weeks and put Shadow with a minder and the day we came back, as we were on our way to get him they phoned us to say he'd been taken out for a walk, got spooked by a firework, pulled out of their hand and run off down the Liverpool Loop Line."
The couple rushed straight to where Shadow had vanished to help search for their missing dog. Lynn said: “There was no sign of him. We spent the rest of the day and have been out every day since looking for him.”
Terry added: “I was there within 20 minutes and we searched for eight hours within the vicinity of where he had gone. We were there all night and the following day. We have searched the Loop Line all the way from Aintree to Halewood, we have had potential sightings of him but there hasn’t been any for over a week.
“We’re in despair, we had to take time off work, we have not been eating, not sleeping. It has turned into a nightmare.”
Lynn told the ECHO how they decided to leave Shadow with a dog sitter rather than putting him into kennels as they lost his brother to cancer earlier this year and didn’t want him to be alone in a kennel. She said: “We are just devastated. We thought we had left him in a better place but you just blame yourself.
“I’m so devastated. I think the upset is worse with us losing our other one earlier this year, due to cancer, we're still getting over his death and now we don’t know where Shadow is. We just want him home, he means the world to us and we’re so worried about him, especially with bonfire night coming up because he is terrified of fireworks.”
Terry added: “The amount of people who have helped has been incredible. It has staggered me, it's humbling. We are relying on other people spotting him now to bring him home."

- β¬β¬ 27.10.24 POSTED UPDATE BY BINDI’s β¬β¬
Update 27 October
It has been a very hard week for Shadow’s wonderful family, and no doubt for Shadow himself, as they remain separated without any new sightings.
The team are as always working hard behind the scenes to see if any of the limited available information which continues to trickle in can help Shadow. At this stage of a dog being lost, two weeks in, their owners are always distraught and fatigued but Shadow’s family are absolutely incredible and remain dedicated to bringing their lovely boy home safe - as do we. No news doesn’t mean no dog, and we are not giving up on Shadow πΊππΌπΎβ€οΈ
A long term missing dog can often go unseen or unnoticed as they develop strategies to stay hidden. Often people who do see them can doubt it could be them, assume they must already be home by now, or can even miss the significance of seeing a dog off lead alone, for example if they’re spotted in a field or a park where dogs are often seen anyway ππ¦Ί
We therefore need to ask once again please for a HUGE PUSH to refresh Shadow’s information. LET PEOPLE KNOW HE IS STILL MISSING AND STILL OUT THERE. LET THEM KNOW WHAT TO DO IF THEY THINK THEY SPOT HIM - JUST CALL US IMMEDIATELYπ²π²π² ππΌππΌππΌβ€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ
We also need to ask for some further help from the fabulous dog loving community if possible please to print, distribute and refresh posters and flyers in the following areas:
Belle Vale
Netherley
Childwall
Gateacre
Woolton
Halewood
If you are able to help with this at all please comment below and we will contact you with further details.
Please also let us know if you live near any of the exits or entrances to the loop line and have a video doorbell, and wouldn’t mind quietly popping some food within its range please - again we will talk you through when and how best to do this.
βοΈπ IT IS CRUCIAL THAT AS SHADOW IS STAYING OUT OF SIGHT, NO ONE GOES “LOOKING FOR HIM” PLEASE πβοΈ
If a long term lost dog has found a safe space to settle and stay hidden, it is because they are in survival mode and this means that any sign, scent or sound of someone “searching” and potentially disturbing their safe space will make them feel hunted and force them to move them on - potentially in a state of panic, or into danger. PLEASE, if you want to help Shadow, DO NOT go searching for him. We know that this sounds counter intuitive but he will be acutely aware of any activity around him. Sightings of lost dogs in circumstances such as this need to happen organically from people who are passing by on their daily business, rather than from search parties poking around who could frighten them out of a chosen hiding place. This is extremely important. We have to play the long game, this is not about trying to “catch” Shadow, it’s about helping him home safely if possible.
We are so grateful to everyone who is still sharing Shadow’s information and supporting his lovely family who are utterly distraught π There are lots of different lines of enquiry going on which we can’t always share but please rest assured that we are committed to helping Shadow and his family. Thank you once again to everyone who is trying to help #TeamShadowπΎπΊπΎπΊπΎ#ShadowComeHome ππΌππΌππΌ xxx

Update on shadow
We’re hopeful he’s getting closer to home
People ask why hasn’t he been spotted more - it’s because he’s using the LoopLine and retreating to wooded areas covering an area of 12 miles
We’re plotting on a map and tonight we e put up cameras in a wooded area a mile away from home. It’s an area he now knows from his usual dog walking route.
If anyone sees him
IGNORE HIM
If you hear him
IGNORE HIM
Just call
His owners have been AMAZING and haven’t given up hope - we are in awe of this family and they are what’s keeping us all going ♥οΈ
Cmon shadow we’re guiding you home lad

Update on Shadow β€οΈπΆ
He’s still missing
We need lots of fresh shares for him please! Please let everyone know that Shadow is still missing and still out there! We need SIGHTINGS as that’s what will help to bring Shadow home safely.
PLEASE HELP US TO HELP SHADOW.
Anyone who lives or walks near the loopline at all, from Aintree to Halewood - so that includes Norris Green, West Derby, Belle Vale, Childwall, Gateacre Woolton and anywhere else inbetween needs to be aware that they might spot him. Remember that the loopline is also known as the transpennine trail, the cinder path, the cycle path, so people may call it different things. Exits and entrances onto it may be spots where Shadow could be seen. We need to let people know what to do if they see him - first stay calm, DO NOT chase, call or try to grab him. CALL THE NUMBER ON THE POSTER FIRST, crouch to the ground and if you have some food gently toss it away from you in his direction but DO NOT try to catch him. If you can take a picture or a video without disturbing him please do, and be aware of exactly where you saw him so that you can tell us as accurately as possible.
PLEASE KEEP SHARING, Shadow is an older boy who’s been missing for a week in horrible weather and we desperately need him home safe ASAP.
We have had an amazing response from kind people postering and sending good wishes, we are so grateful but we need to ask for a refresh of all of his missing posts so that he stays in everyone’s minds.
Thank you so much to everyone who is thinking of Shadow x

- π₯π₯π₯ 18th OCTOBER UPDATE π₯π₯π₯
We have received some potential sightings and noises of dog crying
We have ruled these out tonight
We had cameras in an area but will be locating them in another area
We continue to search the loop line but as you can imagine it’s a big area so it’s painstakingly slow.
Thank you to those who have put posters up and reported sightings.
We will continue with the search with thermal camera and an experienced team
Please report any sightings

The TEAM are still working hard with owners, lots of posters being put up along the LoopLine and side areas. The TEAM have a DRONE if needed, there is lots of foliage each side of the LoopLine with overhanging trees.
Enhanced DL poster done and various size ones which would need to be emailed to anyone who is able to print some off.
π₯π₯ UPDATED POSTER π₯π₯
If anyone could print any off and put up on any of the entry/exit locations along the LoopLine or anywhere else we would be so grateful. - Thanks again to everyone for all the support in trying to find SHADOW. The TEAM are still working hard behind the scenes with his owners who are doing a great job looking for him. Met one of his owner tonight while I was on the LoopLine helping to raise awareness. Great owner now has an electric bike so can travel much quicker along the LoopLine which goes from Halewood all the way to Southport. A lot of people already aware and there are posters up. As speaking to walkers asked if they could take a photo of a poster so the contact numbers are to hand if needed. Called into the Arncliffe Sports Centre right next to the LoopLine and is a very busy Knowsley building, a poster is now on the door entrance. Lots of walkers call in there for dog bags. Come on SHADOW you have a lot of concerned people willing you back home where you belong. β€οΈ
