- Appeal for missing whippet Betty who ran across A14
The owners of "much loved" pet dog Betty have spoken of the "agony" they are going through since their 20-month-old whippet went missing on a trip to Ipswich two weeks ago.
Claire Casely, who lives in Northumberland but is originally from Ipswich, was visiting a friend in Bramford on December 19, when Betty darted out of the front door.
Confused by the unfamiliar area and in a panic, Betty then ran down Paper Mill Lane before reaching the A14 where she was nearly hit by a car.
At the time the police set up a rolling road block to try to protect the dog and an officer came within a whisker of grabbing Betty who, unfortunately, managed to wriggle away and darted off towards Whip Street Motors.
While a search has been launched, Betty has not been seen since that day leaving a huge hole in Claire and Jon Casely's Christmas.
Mrs Casely, who works in medical administration, said: "It's been absolute agony. We don't have any children so she is everything to us and we've barely been able to function since she left.
"I'm signed off sick from work and I'm now on sleeping tablets. I just can't tell you how important it is for us to get her back!
"We think that she's either hiding somewhere, which I believe is unlikely, somebody has got hold of her, or something catastrophic has happened to her. Which would be devastating and I don't know how I would deal with that."
Jon Casely, who previously worked for the Royal Air Force as a winch operator, said: "Betty is very much loved and missed and we just want her back.
"We are offering a substantial reward for her safe return with no questions asked. We don't want to cause any trouble or ask anything untoward - we just want her home!"
Anyone with any information on Betty is asked to call 07879414407 and to avoid chasing her as she is prone to running.
