Thought you would all like to know how Murphy is doing. I have palled him up with another GSD that came in as a rehab, her name is Jess and she is a real delight now. I have been walking Murphy and Jess together, Jess gives him plenty of positive energy and he sees how she reacts around me and he has started to copy her!
In the evening all my dogs pile onto our large sofa for a cuddle and after about 2 hours Murphy made his way out of the crate and onto the sofa beside melittle steps but wow what a thrill for me. Thanks again for all your good wishes and positive thoughts xxx

OMG I can hardly believe this!! I'm so pleased that he has finally been caught. Well done FDR for persevering until someone could trap him. And I'm so pleased for Julie too. I'm sure that once back in a home environment Murphy will slowly come around and forget his days on the run. He must be very confused after living rough for so long.

WOOOOHOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
Murphy has been captured!!!!! murphey had made friends with a gentleman from the caravan site he had been fed at, he followed this wonderful man into a storage room this morning and he managed to get out of the room and shut Murphy in..i then called a friend from the safari park who is licenced to dart animals, Murphy was darted and lightly doped, enough to get a lead on him. Murphy is now recovering in a large crate in my kitchen where it’s warm and quiet. Tomorrow we begin to see if we can re-hab him. The most wonderful thing is that Julie, with whom he had been re-homed just pror to his escape is willing to offer this lucky dog a home if we can get him to the point where human contact is acceptable to him and doesn’t drive him to fear bite. Let’s hope Murphy’s story has a great ending , a heartfelt  thank you to all those on here and in the Dog lost organisation for the support and help over the months that Murphy has been at large

Murphy is still feeding at two places, we did have to restrict one somewhat over generous feeder as Murphy was getting through 4 700gm tina a aday! I tried to explain the idea was maintenace and not to fatten him for Christmas! The other feeding place was offering a little less food and he was scoffing that too, no wonder the boy has such boundless energy and looks so well... Hopefully a cage big enough to trap him is coming this week with the help of a great lass from animal house. (I'll post her details later as they might be of use to others and we are so grateful for the help). I think Murphy is way too fly to be caught in this way at the moment so I've asked that more carbs are added to his diet and less protein, in the hope it will make him less zingy...then it's down to patience again..thank you all for your continuing interest x

Just to bring you all up to date with the Murphy story. Last week we attempted to dart Murphy in the location he has made home, it was a failure sadly. We had pinned all our hopes on this  so it was a huge dissapointment for everyone. I really thought we had scared him off his "patch" but had a small hope he would return as he was soooo comfortable, sure enough 48 hrs later he was back! So relieved, we are exploring the idea of either fast working knock out drops in his feed or a cagetrap. Trapping is the second option because there are so many opportunities for Murphy to eat , if he thought somewhere felt a bit odd, he would just lunch out!

Murphy is starting to settle again in his new location and is consistantly eating at a feeding station. Hopefully a trap will be going up soon.

Please everyone take note at what Sue is saying just phone in when the dog is sighted she is right in saying the dog will go to ground if not left alone it only needs a couple of people to gain the dogs trust not lots of people and this can take weeks so please leave him alone and do what is ask otherwise you will push this dog further away and may be under a car. It is not easy to catch a dog that is been out for a long time they get very protective of themselves and also survival mode kicks in and they can look after them self very well. So if sighted just phone in. I hope he is home soon and can be if done in the right way.

Murphy?s den was found and he was actually taking the food left for him for three days running but unfortunately, despite being asked not to, so many people were trying to catch him and visiting the den location that now it's driven him away from his den and four miles out of the area. There are some new sightings but it's back to the beginning, letting him settle, trying to find his dens and movements, establishing a feeding station etc. If you are reading this and you know where Murphy is PLEASE LEAVE HIM ALONE!! If you want to help please phone 07791 167799 and report any sightings but DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CATCH HIM OR CONTINUALLY VISIT HIS DEN. FDR and Murphy?s owner have been working so hard to catch him and are doing all the right things but their efforts are ending up nowhere because he's terrified of crowds and strangers. Sorry to be so blunt but the longer this boy is feral the harder he will be to catch and we all want to see him home as soon as possible.

There have been more sightings of Murphy eating from chip papers outside a pub. He has moved areas now to a quieter place and some new feeding stations are going down tomorrow. Good Luck

Thanks Sue , the food is left uneaten but Murphy looks in good condition, I'm quite sure he is being fed elsewhere, even people I have explained the strategy to still leave food for him!His territory appears to getting larger and he is now regularly crossing two main roads There are more people aware of him but fewer sightings which suggests he is gettng better at avoiding human contact. Should I move the bbq to a different area I wonder, thing is, I don't think he's hungry any more.A trap would only work if he was feeding there wouldn't it? or is there another way?

FDR please read the info I emailed you about approaching dogs in this situation. Calling them, making eye contact, moving towards them etc makes them run. They are scared and don?t recognise even people they?ve lived with for years. Someone else could be feeding him or he could be finding food himself. Many dogs are very capable of looking after themselves while living rough. Is the food you?re leaving staying untouched? Have you though about a dog trap? You could ask your Dog Warden about this or if not I can give you the number of somebody who might be able to help. Let me know.

No luck...we traced Murphy once, Julie called and for one heart stopping moment he looked as if he was going to run back to her...then he turned and kept on running, we were so dissapointed...so after 14 hours non stop searching we stopped.Seems obvious to me one or more people are feeding Murphy, or he is stealing cat food . He looked very fit and well and not lacking in energy. Where on earth do I go from here, the feeding station isn't working because he has no need for it...Murphy is having a ball and has no reason to be caught...low ebb now...any ideas?

No sightings yesterday until 8.30 pm, but yet again in the wooded area where we have the food station.Not sure if he ate the food last night, the paw prints in the sand that I spread around the bowl were small, probably fox. Local radio have been great, all day yesterday broadcasting the please don't feed info.We plan to get Julie down on Friday and Saturday, hopefully by then a routine will be established..*sigh* the pressure of people who want to be a hero and be the one to catch him is difficult to handle. All I can do is explain the strategy and the reason for caution, but I see their eyes glaze over with fervour.I suppose it looks from the outside as if we are doing nothing as we are not out there with nets and dart guns!

The nocturnal BBQ was a success. We actually saw Murphy standing a distnce away just as we left, at least I know he had a fishy meal last night! Biggest problem I think is stopping well meaning locals from feeding him, I'll get a piece in the local paper and on the radio without giving away the location of the bait drop, just asking folk not to feed.Expecting a parcel today from Julie (Murphy was re-homed with her and was mostly happy there) full of aroma I hope! Back tonight with my trusty BBQ and pongy pilchards

this afternoon I actually saw him! He is staying within his "territory" so we can start placing the bait, catching sight of him was a real boost, he looked very thin but he was sound enough as he turned a ran from me.Going at dusk armed with BBQ and pilchards!

If he is being sighted in the same vicinity then he is obviously staying put and may well be holed up in the nearby wooded area.  You need to find a location which is quiet but from where you can observe and put food down twice daily at the same times. Top it with pilchards, dogs cannot resist.  Do not call or chase if you see him. Lay down and whimper. Dogs are very curious and will come to investigate. Gently slip on a lead...Good luck

Many thanks Sue, very grateful for your comments . yesterday and today lots of sightings all within the same territory. (Walshes estate, the Rough, Layamon walk) Problem is all these roads are backing onto a stretch of woodland, I'm sure that's where he is holding up and feeling safe.Tommorrow I'm going to light a smelly barbeque for a few hours and leave some food down for a couple of hours with a sign near so people will be aware. The lady with whom Murphy was last re-homed who had a good raport with him is sending a few clothes with her smell on. I intend to leave the clothes near the feeding spot. This lady is willing to travel the 4 hours down to me in the hope of him recognising her and coming to her...Some people are just fantastic..Any more ideas ?

No sightings of Murphy today, it's likely he is staying out of the way of people, this poor fella is so very nervous and doesn't trust humans  at all, I'm hoping as he gets hungry he will get bold and raid a few dustbins then we can at least know the area he is in.
