I hope this doesn't upset people but there is a terrible story on the BBC website about a murdered American Bulldog (doesn't say if it is male or female). Here's the link, in case owners want to follow it.

Yes, my staffy Pirate (reunited 13/12 2006 rainbow bridge) was born with a single black spot on his nose that grew as he did. Check his picture.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Ah, my male dobe is brown and had a pale pinkish nose as a puppy that turned to a brownish colour as an adult.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I think that that is quite normal -I have Old English Sheepdogs and all of my puppies have had pink or pink/spotty noses at that age and change to black oer the first 4-5 months, Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Had a look at the found dog on the 12th and it seems to have a black nose, maybe a bad picture. Raven has a pink nose with small black patches on it.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I agree with toris post..Breeding a puppy should be a commintment for its life, as a breeder i always tell thepupies new owners for what ever reason the said needs to be rehomed i am the first port of call..i want to know who owns my puppies and where they are.if at what ever age one needs to come back well i do not hesitate..so far ive had none returned and their owners keep in contact. Hope Raven is found safe and wellxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I agree with Tori, all good breeders [ and sometime even the stud dog owners ] will take back, or assist the breed rescue with rehoming one of their puppies. You should not be breeding a litter if you are not prepared to help out down the years. Many genuine things can happen to a family that has bought one of your pups, as well as the ones who just don't care. After all if you are a 'good' dog breeder you will have a waiting list for your pups, or older adults, and should know of potential homes adult dogs could go when they need to be re-homed.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Is this a one-off puppy theft, or is this puppy one of a litter that has been stolen?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Any decent breeder would always take their dogs back whatever the circumstances and take the trouble to socialise/train and rehome them. In some sad cases the dog has been too damaged mentally and the only kind/safe thing to do is put it to slleep. Breeding a puppy should be a commintment for its life, not always the case. One breeder I did get a pup from was selling them very cheaply, asked no question and just ped it off with an old piece of blanket! Usually I'm on a waiting list for a year or more to get a pup and they are sold under contract.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Diane, I think the answer to your question lies in the heart of the original owner. If I have to wait years to get our puppies back, I will. Behaviour may of course be a problem, but I would never turn my back on them, whatever. In a few years time I'm moving to the country with a big garden and the fence round it is going to be like a bloody fortress. No bugger is getting over my fence to MY dogs.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I do wonder what would happen if a litter of puppies go missing and then they start to turn up a few years down the line? Would the owners be in a position to take back a dog that is an adult with all the things he has learnt, be it good or bad? He may not be socialised with other dogs, cats or kids, may take a dislike to men or women. I dont believe they will be easy to sell on as they are no longer 'cute little puppies'. What say if four adult dogs turn up on the doorstep because they were originally microchipped to the breeder and they got stolen as puppies, this may not be a good thing for the original breeders they were stolen from? Will they just end up being another statistic in a pound because of their learned behaviour? These are questions that bug me when a litter of pups go missing.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
