Yipeee what fantastic news !! Thankyou Jarvis cocker for letting us know ! This is not the first time I have known a chip not to show up ! A while back we had a border terrier that turned up 10 months after he went missing and his chip did not show up at all. he was only reunited because one of our co ordinators saw the dog on  the stray kennels web page and his owners went to see the dog who turned out to be their boy ! I can only emphasise what Jarvis cocker has said to make sure your dog is tagged as well as chipped and also keep getting the chip checked whenever  you visit your vets to make sure it is  still showing up . Welcome home Buddy and stay safe from now on xx Pam  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I am so glad Buddy is going home, what a good job there are people like you working so hard to match these dogs up. As you said buddy could have been pts as his time was up, BUT it is such a worry when you have micro chipped your dog, but it fails to show up when scanned, you tend to relax a little knowing that if he/she is picked up she would be scanned and returned, but this case shows its not true. I would advise all owners when going for the anual vaccinations to get the vet to check for the chip, i know i will be doing that in future just to be on the safe side, it will only take a few seconds but as shown in this case could save alot of heartache.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
Jarvis Cocker
I am involved in a local dog rescue and we have had Buddy for 2 weeks but have only just matched him up with his photo on National Pet Register, he was handed into the PDSA but his chip did not show up, we also scanned him and found no chip, the local kennels and dog warden were informed, he has been looked after in foster care and after speaking to the owners father today he should soon be home with his family, its just shows the importance of a tag on the collar to save all the upset, he could have been put to sleep or re homed. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have spoken to owner and advised to keep checking with Springfield , Mount Pleasant kennels ( in case picked up under Leeds Dog Warden jurisdiction ) and Fleet kennels at Queensbury, Bradford.  Also given further contacts ie RSPCA Mount Street, and PDSA Hospital to get posters in.  It appears Leeds Dog Wardens will only take details of dogs who have gone MISSING from their area, rather than helping and taking details in case they get PICKED up in their area so the stray kennels do need checking regularly.   Buddy went missing  before  ( about 6 mths ago ) and was found at Fleet Kennels he was reunited due to the chip - so the owners are aware of the kennels and are in contact with them.  We do need a pic ASAP and owner tried to send one to me via email but attachment didnt work. Have asked if they can re-do it so we can get a pic on site quickly.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just spoken to owner and asked for a photo to be sent. Have also alerted him to Springfields as they have several new dogs on their web site today.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
