Thanks Jackie - just connected in for the first time in ages to check her microchip details but you never really stop looking. The "new" puppy will be 3 years old in September but people still talk about Holly - only a few weeks ago the local dog warden said she had been thinking about her that morning.

What a beautiful girl. A relative of yours in Hemel told me that you have a new puppy, so sorry that Holly is still missing but pleased that you have not abandoned your search and hopefully very soon that empty bed will be filled.
Jackie.

She's very similar but her muzzle is too dark. I've just seen a photo of 21533, found much closer to home, also very similar, but not Holly. Thanks for noticing these lookalikes, perhaps we'll be third time lucky.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Three weeks ago we adopted Amber, a 13 week old lurcher pup. She will never take the place of Holly but hope she'll help take our minds off her disappearance. We continue to hope for news of Holly and keep our eyes open whenever we are in areas we might see her. There's still an empty bed waiting for her.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I contacted the Bracknell News using their on-line form and heard nothing more. I'll try to get hold of a real person this time. A lady rang to say she had only just seen Holly's poster but wanted to tell me she had seen a dog trotting along the road between Hurst and Wokingham on the 1st November. It was after midnight and she was convinced it was a dog and not a fox or deer. So it might have been a sighting of Holly.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sorry you still have no news on Holly.  Did you have any joy with the Bracknell News?  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

We had another suspected sighting of Holly yesterday but it turned out to be a dog which had already been reunited with its owner. After 4 failed sightings it would be useful if sightings could be more positive. We'll follow up all possible sightings but if you notice the long feathery tail and a dark brown or black back merging to a very pale brown undercarriage, it's more likely to be her and we'll try to get more help doing the search. The second photo of Holly shows her after she crashed into some barbed wire in August of this year. I thought we were going to lose her then. Blood was pouring from the wound on her leg and we had a half an hour walk back to the car. She also had a rip on her back, so she had a bald patch just behind her shoulder blades. She still has a long scar up the front of her right front leg but it has healed very well so you have to be close to see it. The bald patch on her back might still be noticeable but the fur has probably grown back by now.

Good to talk with you Ren. I will email the info/advice sheets giving help on how to get all the local vets contact details etc. Fingers crossed that some information comes in about Holly very soon. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Morning Ren!  Managed to get to Larks Hill yesterday once it stopped raining and found 2 Holly posters already in position.  Even if the sighting yesterday wasn't Holly it is good to know that people are looking and know about her.  Sadly, many people do not know the law about stray dogs and, even if they do, often decide to keep what they find for whatever reason.  One of the reasons why postering on a large scale and emailing vets and rescues in a wide radius is so important and regularly brings results.  As Holly is chipped it is to be hoped that if she has been involved in an RTA or found injured somewhere she would be scanned by the relevant authority or vet, although I know this, sadly, doesn't always happen.  I expect you are already aware of this but, just in case, please also remember that if you were to see her she may well not respond to you calling her having been out so long.  I'm sure someone far more experienced than me can give you full info but the best thing to do is lie down and whimper like a puppy which creates an interest and encourages the dog to come and investigate. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for good news for you soon, particularly as my dream is to be 'owned' by a dog such as Holly one day, but I think it will always be a dream not a reality.  CaroleLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sadly we met a lurcher near an apparently abandoned cottage and it wasn't Holly. The dog ran off and the Wokingham Dog Warden said it sounds like the dog that was lost yesterday. At least there is now a poster at Jealotts Hill and more on nearby footpaths. The window cleaner has just called and said he plays golf with some travellers. He'll see if he can find anything out.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Carole, Both DBARC and Binfield Rescues have posters. I had always assumed that if a dead body had been found at the sewerage works, they would have contacted the phone number embroidered on the collar. However, it might have been in such a state they disposed of it as soon as possible. With the continuing lack of sightings it seemed less likely that she was running free and more likely she was involved in a road traffic accident or had been abducted. Since losing her I've met or heard of several well meaning people who have expressed that they would or have actually kept dogs that looked mistreated. In particular sight hounds that are naturally skinny. A few years ago a young lad asked if he could have Holly for "lamping". Also Saluki/Greyhound crosses are (or were) very popular dogs for hare coursing, so there is a demand for them, despite the number in dog rescues. At 17:00 today I had a call from a lady who thought she had just seen Holly running along the Drift Road towards Windsor at the junction with the A330. I dashed up there, by which time it was almost dark. I stopped in the Drift Road and a few seconds later 2 men in a 4X4 asked if I'd seen a lurcher. I told them it was seen about 30 minutes before running along the Drift Road towards Windsor. We agreed to let each other know if the dog we found wasn't ours but they drove off without leaving a contact number. Perhaps they were just in a hurry to track down their dog or were we both looking for the same dog. I spent the next half hour driving up and down Drift Road and calling for Holly at footpaths and field entrances but in the dark it was pretty futile. Tomorrow morning I'll check with the dog warden whether she's had any reported dog losses or finds in the area. Will also walk Otto along some of the footpaths nearby and leave some more posters.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Poster now on notice board by post box in Warfield Street.  Also, whilst at Binfield post office this morning removed Alfie poster from wall outside Binfield News and replaced it with one of Holly.  Will poster Larks Hill this afternoon. Just another thought, albeit not a nice one, but have you contacted the sewerage works by Bellfoundry Lane?  Does Binfield Dog Rescue have a poster?  You also mentioned in another post that you now thought she had perhaps been abducted.  Are you able to put on here more info on this?  Keep safe Holly.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

This morning I replaced one of the two posters at Cantley, which had got rather tatterred but on the whole I've been targetting posters north of the A329M or south of the Reading Road. I would expect her to find her own way home any nearer, or at least to have been reported. I put up a poster somehwere along Forest Road, Warfield Street but please put another up by the Post Office if there isn't one there. I don't know Warfield very well but more posters in any dog walking area would be very useful. I feel doggy and horsey people are the best people to target if she's holed up in woods or thick undergrowth. I've just emailed the Bracknell News to get them to print a story - Wokingham Times did one last week. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hello Ren -   When I saw your post late yesterday night, I immediately thought about Axel the lurcher, who was frightened by fireworks and ran off from Larks Hill on Saturday, but wanted to check it out today prior to posting as didn't want to dampen your hopes.  At least more people know about Holly now and the search has widened.   Have you given posters/flyers to the Wokingham theatre?  If they have a production on at the moment perhaps they would be prepared to have some on display?  Also the various sports clubs that use the park. I have her poster in the back of my car and will put one up on the notice board in Warfield Street by the post box - just need to find my plastic folders!  Let me know if there are any other specific areas in Warfield that you want postering. Sadly this dog does not appear to be Holly. I met some dog walkers who knew of a lurcher that ran off in this area on Saturday and was reunited with its owners on Sunday morning. At least there are now a lot more posters up about Holly in this area. In addition the rangers in Windsor Great Park have been asked to keep a look out for Holly.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have just had a report of a greyhound type dog walking in the middle of County Lane towards the North Bracknell Tescos around 18:00 on Saturday 31st October, which was reported immediately to the Bracknell police and dog warden. The only slight query is that it appeared to be wearing a thick leather collar but in the dark the person couldn't be sure. Even if it was, it might still be Holly,as we have suspicions she might have initially been abducted. I had started widening the search to this area and had just emailed the Forest Manager of the Crown Estates on the possibility that she might be roaming the Windsor Great Park, which begins about 2 or  miles further on from this sighting. Will start putting up a lot more posters in this area.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Ren, thanks for letting us know that posters for the missing dogs are still up. Owners are advised to take them down if their dog is found and someone will get in touch with them about it. I'll be sending Holly's details to The Countryman's Weekly magazine next week. She should be featured on 18 November. I would be wonderful if she was home by then but it not it will get her publicity all over the country.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

It's lovely that dogs such as Alfie (20374) and Pepper (19969, 19962) have been found but there are still lots of missing posters for them in the Binfield, Warfield area. I can understand that Alfie's owners are concerned over the last few days with his injuries but it's over a month since Pepper was found and I've met people who still talk about Pepper as a missing dog. It tends to water down the impact of Holly being lost. Also two noticeboards were almost full with only room for a small poster about Holly. I hope it will be necessary one day to remove all Holly's posters but with many friends putting up posters as well it may be difficult. Hope there is advice to owners of found dog on the importance removing posters.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I left a poster by the gate at the Wiltshire Road entrance, as soon as she went missing but that might be rather weatherbeaten by now. There's another laminated poster on the large oak by the drive to the hotel and most Cantley walkers seem to know about her disappearance. Since then I've been concentrating on dog walking areas further afield. I think she would have found her own way home if she was still near Cantley. Two things happened the next morning. I came across a group of about 10 deer within a quarter of a mile of Cantley and 3 of them headed for the Twyford Road bridge over the A329M. If Holly had followed them over the bridge she would probably have been too nervous to return, without the excitement of the chase. She could still be somewhere between the A329M and the M4. The other thing is that a dead deer was seen at the junction of Twyford Road and Matthewsgreen Road on Sunday evening. Two people saw the deer. They are both convinced that it was a deer and not Holly. The council confirmed that they did remove a deer from there early on Monday morning. A thorough search of the area nearby has failed to find a dead or injured Holly. If Holly had been chasing several deer, one of which got hit by a car, she might have followed the other deer over the Reading Road to extensive wooded areas, such as Bearwood College, Gorrick Woods, the Look Out etc. There are now posters up in all these areas, the Wokingham Times had an article about her and this morning a teacher at one of the local Travellers camps rang to say she would ask the children if they'd seen Holly. Until we get a sighting of her I think putting up posters further afield is most important. Although if you are walking your dog in the area, please try to do it in one of the less frequented areas between the A329M and the M4, or in the wooded areas south of Wokingham.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hello Ren, I'm sorry to hear Holly is lost. I usually see you every morning when I am walking Tyler and I didn't realise she was lost as I haven't seen any posters around the park. I'll keep an eye open over the weekend.    Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sorry there is still no news on Holly. Moor Cottage didn't have her listed in their lost book so I left a poster with them yesterday.  I've also handed some out to dog walkers who, although live near where she was lost, visit Warfield.  Fingers crossed the media coverage brings some good news very soon.  If she isn't back by next week perhaps drop posters into both Holt and Emmbrook schools if you haven't already done so.  CaroleLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just returned from Pishill, which is 5 miles NW of Henley, where there had been a sighting of a tan and white lurcher. Unlikely that she made her own way there but armed poachers were surprised at Culham and Pishill is on the route back to Wokingham.   Found a very nervous lurcher but it wasn't Holly. Almost felt like going straight home but she looked so sad I started feeding her the chicken I'd brought for Holly. It took about an hour but I eventually managed to put her on a lead. She's a lovely little dog and the Dog Warden is fairly sure she's a dog that was reported lost yesterday. At least there is now a picture of Holly in the Wokingham Times, which might bring some genuine sightings.

Thanks, Moor Cottage is the vet Holly goes to. They should have details of her loss from both the microchip company and the dog warden. My wife might also have sent them a poster, if you didn't see one I'll pop over and give them one. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

There have still been no sightings but she's the kind of dog that would steer clear of humans, especially if they had dogs and I suspect she is still somewhere near Wokingham. She's more likely to be in the middle of a wood rather than around houses or a popular footpath and could be mistaken for a deer until you saw her long tail.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Holly was walking in Cantley Park, Wokingham close to Bell Foundry Lane, with her owner and his other dog on Sunday evening, when she went behind some trees and disappeared.  It's possible she may have chased a deer but we don't know.  She is a well trained dog who competes in agility.  She's quite shy but definitely not aggressive.  Have asked the owner to update the site when he can but I know he has been in touch with the dog warden, rescue centres and vets and has been postering and out looking.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
