Oh Tony, how sad an ending for you sweet boy.

Death is nothing at all
I have only slipped away into the next room
I am I, and you are you.
Whatever we were to each other
That we still are.

Call me by my old familiar name
Speak to me in the easy way which you always used
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes
We enjoyed together.

Play, smile, think of me, pray for me,
Let my name be ever the household word that
It always was.

Let it be spoken without effort,
Without the trace of a shadow on it.
Life means all that it ever meant
It is the same as it ever was
There is absolutely unbroken continuity.

Why should I be out of mind because I am
Out of sight? I am but waiting for you
For an interval
Somewhere very near
Just around the corner .
All is well.

Oh i am so upset to read this tonight, i have constantly been checking the site for news on tony and just hoped to god that he was somewhere safe but unfortunately it was not to be. I am thinking of his owners tonight who must be heartbroken to think he was so close to home but never made it back safely. Rest in peace tony and run free over the bridge, thinking of you little man. xxx

Got a phone call 8.45am this morning saying Tony had been seen in area down the path at side of his house. Myself and OH went straight away and searched but didn't find anything, did outside perimeter of farmers field where donkeys are kept(farm just at bottom here) Phone rang again and it was George (the farmer) he'd just been out collecting muck and found Tony dead in the field under some muck. He was going to bring him in on his quad bike and I went and informed the owner. Breaks my heart to think that he was so close yet so far with the vast area round and about. At least we have closure now, R.I.P. Tony, out of pain and warm now. xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

yes thats sounds like the same lake,if you go on google earth it shows up and the houses back right on to it.xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Never heard of Cromptons Lake, the owner has been in touch as far as I know with dog wardens out of area. Looks like we might have more snow which will make searching even worse. There is a lake (George's Lake) over the back that used to be in open fields but is now a housing estate so if he was there somebody would of seen him.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

i wish i could live closer so i could help you!! dont give up, have you postered further afield and tried  dog wardens out of the area? he could of been picked up by somebody who lives out of the area? the first thing i think about is Tony when i wake up! i hope hes curled  by somebody's fireside maybe they not seen  poster yet ,are supermarkets postered?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I'm running out of ideas now, not sure if to poster some more or where to start looking next. Everyone keeps saying he'll be dead somewhere round and about but wouldn't one of the many dogs around sniff him out. Was going to look round this wild out of the way area yesterday and today but it's far too treacherous underfoot just yet. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Big thanks to Paula, John and Harvey for helping search for Tony yesterday. Pie shop and others are all aware, I know people who work in most of the shops (small town) so if he's hanging round there we'll soon know. He went missing out on a walk on the Heath, he usually ambled home but didn't this time for some reason. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have been checking this site for news on tony and so worried he has not returned home yet, such an old fella should not be away from home for so long. Praying to see him in the blue and re united with his owners, they must be worried to death about him as i would be about one of mine. Come on tony, make it a special christmas for your owners and for people like me wanting you back home in the warm where you should be. Keeping everything crossed for you little man time to find your way home now. xxx

Just a thought,Did you leave a poster in the pie shop which Tonys poss sighting was at because you said that one sighting he was on his own and another that people were with him,Maybe this is true and the people that was with him may of taken him in!!! Just to make sure a poster has been displayed in that shop as people that use it, probably use it frequently.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Marion sorry to see your post came out blank, this does sometimes happen mainly when using another browser other than Internet Explorer. It is so worrying for his family and everyone else that Tony has still not been found, we can only pray at the moment that he is being looked after or found somewhere to keep warm and get food.  Jan xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Niece had two more calls today re: Golborne sightings but I'm convinced this is a similar dog that is allowed to roam (still following them up though) sadly I was unable to go and owners niece was in work. Apparently there is a dog that roams the area similar to Tony so not sure if it's him but not taking any chances in case it is Tony. Tony has a short coat, wishing he had a extra furry one at the moment.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just got back from Golborne, had a phone call this afternoon from a cafe owner in Ashton who I know. She said they'd seen a dog like Tony at the East Lancs end of Golborne High St on Friday (Iknow). That would fit, as walking from the Heath here takes you past Haydock Park Racecourse past all the farms and comes out near that spot. Picked my sister up and we went up to Golborne and looked round the whole area, loads of barns and outbuildings that he could be sheltering in. Spoke to a man we know walking his old dog and he said he'd seen a dog like Tony a few days ago outside the Chinese near Asda, called in there and left a poster also scoured Asda carpark as they get quite a few stray dogs on there. On a walk from the Heath once, down the path at the side of Tony's house I came out at this Chinese so also ties in. Lets hope he's sheltering in a barn etc and then scouring for food.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks to Marion for emailing a poster from family member of Tony's owner.  Photo now converted to jpg from the poster and uploaded.  Posters have been getting circulated but as of yet there have been no reported sightings.  Well done to the Asda greeter in Goldbourne for having a poster pinned to her uniform all day yesterday, sure is a good way of spreading the word.  Really hope this elderly boy has found somewhere warm to hide up or is being looked after and once the posters get in the right area his family get the call they are waiting for. Littlehelper if you could spread the word on the petforums that would be brilliant, thank you so much.  Jan x  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Am looking out for owner coming home and will get his email address and send him the info, then hopefully he can upload a photo or I'll do it if he sends me one. Have just spoke to Dog Warden again and no dog of Tony's description been picked up but owner will need to go to Leigh Dogs Home and take a look. He's going to let me know if any dog comes in matching Tony.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks for listing Tony, I would say he's short coated and we're not 100% if the sighting outside the pie shop was him, one person said the dog was with somebody and two people said it was on it's own. We looked round the town to no avail. Just want the old lad home before the snow comes. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks to the DL helper for sending me an email alert and phoning details into HQ on behalf of a neighbour.   Details updated and WN4 post code added can be changed if not the right one. Advice/info and Scenting/Mapping instructions have been emailed back to forward onto Tony's owner.  If possible could we have a photo either by email or mobile phone, if there is no photo available try and find a similar one.  Good luck and hope we see this elderly boy in the blue soon.  Jan xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
