A long shot I know, but toay I saw a dog matching this description in Darlington DL1. Looks very similar to dog in photo, had a thick grubby coat suggesting it had been on streets for a while. Wearing what looked like a black studded collar. I called the dog to me, at first he walked toward me happily, but then got wary and walked off, so I was unable to catch him. It might be worth contacting the local dog warden/shelters in this area, just incase he has been picked up by authorities since my sighting. ( just to add, I have commented on another dog which it was similar to aswell, defo male Lab with greying muzzle and looked like it had been straying for some time, due to mistrust and coat condition)

Hi I?m sorry to hear bertie is missing.
Firstly contact dog wardens, vets and local rescue centres?local council stray dogs holding kennel give them all a detailed description of your dog with any distinguishing marks/scars.., If you can go down there each day to check for your dog that is the best thing as they only have to hold a dog for 7 days before it can legally be rehomed or in some cases destroyed. It is also worth contacting the local police as if someone has found your dog they may well have contacted them.
email admin@doglost.co.uk with a photo please if you haven?t already.
You can only print posters when you are signed in.
Get postering now?..as quickly and as many as you can physically manage. make sure you offer a reward on the posters.
POSTER POSTER POSTER!!!?I cannot emphasize how important this is, from the posters you will get sightings and lots of extra pairs of eyes looking out for your dog.
Poster bus stops, train stations, supermarket/retail park car parks, pet shops petrol stations, lay by snack vans, service stations, bins, poo bins, shopping centres, take away outlets, pubs, lamposts, caf?s, leisure centre?s,??.basically anywhere people go you need to poster like mad so nobody misses them? ask in as many places as you can if they will display a poster for you.
Tell postman and binmen and give them a poster so they have your phone no handy? infact tell every single person you meet while searching as the more people know the much better chance of getting your dog back quickly.
Contact the local newspaper and radio stations? take out an advert with a photo in the papers pets section lost and found and make sure you offer a reward!.
If you believe your dog has been stolen then it is very important you contact the police for a crime reference number?. And the postering publicity should have the aim of not only getting your dog home but making it too hot to handle.
keep going back to the place where your dog was last seen and leave something with their scent on it there. Cross posted to www.labradorforums.co.uk http://www.labradorforums.co.uk/ftopict-72014.html Good luck xx

Spoke to owner and it seems it was a hoax call which is so sad as Bertie is still missing .I emailed further contacts for more kennels, rescues to check and other dog wardens to contact who border the area. Bertie is microchipped, but wasnt wearing a collar when he went missing. He also has a skin complaint so does have some fur missing on his tail.  Owner is going to contact vets further afield and email a poster to them in case he is taken in to them. Hope he is found soon Helen xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Owner put advert in local paper and got called last night by an Asian man who said he had picked a scared labrador up on a duel carriageway close to owners house and had taken him back to a newsagents called Zacks on Limthorpe road, Middlesborough. owner and family went there last night but place was shut....they looked into yard where the caller said the dog was but no sign.  They will be ringing local police and dogwarden to see if any reports have been made to them about the dog.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
