- Thank you all so very much indeed for all of your thoughtful and extremely kind words.
I miss George dearly. For the last 17 years it was just him and I. He was always by my side, and even came to work with me. I don't think I will ever get used to him not being there. I still look behind me when I go through doors, holding them open for him. He was the most delightful companion anyone could wish for, greeting me each morning with his 'happy to see me face' and wagging tail, an image I shall remember the rest of my life.
John.

- ***A MESSAGE FROM GEORGE***
Friend, please don’t mourn for me
I’m still here, though you don’t see.
I’m right by your side each night and day
And within your heart I long to stay.
My body is gone but I’m always near.
I’m everything you feel, see or hear.
My spirit is free, but I’ll never depart
As long as you keep me alive in your heart.
I’ll never wander out of your sight-
I’m the brightest star on a summer night.
I’ll never be beyond your reach-
I’m the warm moist sand when you’re at the beach.
I’m the colourful leaves when Autumn’s around
And the pure white snow that blankets the ground.
I’m the beautiful flowers of which you’re so fond,
The clear cool water in a quiet pond.
I’m the first bright blossom you’ll see in the spring,
The first warm raindrop that April will bring.
I’m the first ray of light when the sun starts to shine,
And you’ll see that the face in the moon is mine.
When you start thinking there’s no one to love you,
You can talk to me through the Lord above you.
I’ll whisper my answer through the leaves on the trees,
And you’ll feel my presence in the soft summer breeze.
I’m the hot salty tears that flow when you weep
Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
And the beautiful dreams that come while you sleep.
I’m the smile you see on a baby’s face.
Just look for me, friend, I’m every place! - 2010-02-02 08:44 Sable - Regional Co-ordinator - Scotland
- I spoke to George's owner last night and expressed the sympathy, sadness, & sorrow I felt on hearing this devastaing news.It is clear that everyone who has been following George's story with hope and anticipation of good news, feels the same. We can only imagine how his owner must feel. In a couple of weeks George was going to be 18 yrs old and was still fit as a fiddle. He went absolutely everywhere with his owner, including work. The loss and the great hole he has left is going to be so great. It is thought he may have gone onto the ice on the canal and slipped through into the icy water. This is just so heartbreaking and I just cannot stop thinking about him. God bless you boy. xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

You did so much to find George and I am so sorry that he didn't make it home. At least you now have closure. Gorgeous George, have fun at the bridge boy x You clearly had a fabulous life and were very much loved, and will continue to be so. Rest in peace xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- I am sorry to report with great sadness and sorrow that George’s body was recovered from the Union Canal this afternoon. He was discovered by a couple walking their dog who were kind enough to report to the appropriate authorities. I was so hoping for a better outcome for this old gent. God bless you George. Thinking of you at this sad time John. xx
You can shed tears that he is gone
or you can smile because he has lived.
You can close your eyes and pray that he’ll come back
or you can open your eyes and see all he’s left.
Your heart can be empty because you can’t see him
or you can be full of the love you shared.
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember him and only that he’s gone
or you can cherish his memory and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back

- It probably is not George but a black/white collie type was picked up at Bargeddie on 28th January. Bargeddie is near motorway so might be worth checking with the council? http://www.northlanarkshire.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=8141Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- George's owner has told me although he looks old by the grey muzzle, it has been that colour since he was young, and he is very fit and well for his age. There have been a couple of sightings in response to the owner's advert in the Evening Times, along with a very cruel hoax call. He is also doing all he can by postering, searching etc. If anyone can help with postering and searching please call the owner to see if you can be of help. It is very cold for an old boy like George to be out all night. I am really hoping that someone has taken him in, as dogs are often taken in quite locally, and sometimes members of the people think that the old dog has been dumped on the streets and abandoned. I have given the owner advice on things that have not been done so far like calling the microchip company. I have sent his poster to Scottish Rescues and I really hope there is some news of him soon.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
