- I am so sorry Glyn & Marie, you have worked so hard to try to find Max and it seems so cruel that as you first feared that he had drowned, words seem so futile at times like this but I am glad that you have been able to recover his body and bring him home to rest. A big thankyou to the person who contacted you via NPR - it must have been very hard for them to write that email but they have enabled you to find dear Max. Thinking of you both and sending my love ~ Thank you Jane for your message this morningLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Glyn and Marie, i am so so sorry to hear this awful news. After working so hard and the sightings believed to be Max this is so cruel to end this way. Thinking of you both, i know you did everything you could to get him back. There really are not any other words. Run free at Rainbow Bridge beautiful Max xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- This evening I received an email from national pet register to advise that a dead dog had been seen matching the description of Max, in the river Ouse, adjacent to Aldi in Leighton Buzzard. I confirm that after hazardous recovery of the body, Max has gone to rainbow bridge. He is at rest at home now with his favourite toys. Max drowned within the first few minutes of going missing, so I draw some comfort from the fact that he didn't suffer. Thanks to you all at doglost, especially Jane Dell. - Well, it's now been a month since Max went missing. No further sightings except for one this week, which turned out to be a dead fox again. It's strange that he may still be roaming out there. Going to undertake a new poster campaign, with a fresh photo, indicating that he is still missing.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Had the barbeque in the woods yesterday, in the hope it might bring Max to us. Leafleted the local area (thanks Jane). Out looking this morning before dawn, again lunch time, dusk and this evening. All focussed within a mile of last sighting - Knolls wood. We really do hope that someone spots Max, or has taken him in. We really did feel that when the last sighting came in, we were so much closer to getting him home. We soldier on and will keep up the patrols. He is somewhere after all.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Search party out at first light, covering the Heath and Reach area, focussing on Knowles Wood, the place of the last sighting. It would appear now that of the four possible sightings to date (first of a dog nearby with a flashing collar, second near Heath and Reach, third was a dead fox, fourth was Heath and Reach - two and four seem very similar. Both people are pretty sure (after looking at further photos on Max on Facebook), that it is him. It's a nice bright day, so lots of dog walkers will be out.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- This dog was seen opposite Taylors Ride, on the Redwood Glade side by two individuals both of whom felt dog was a stray. Known stray we mentioned before is known to wander further away in Stockgrove Country Park so this sighting could be promising.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Glyn, where abouts on Plantation road was the possible sighting - near to the Golf Club or at the other end in town ? There is a cattery on Bragenham Road opposite the Golf club end of Plantation Road which has previously attracted stray dogs when they have been missing. I saw all your posters up on Plantation Road and the old Linslade Road on Friday when I was out delivering stuff, so the area is well postered and could bring in sightings.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Potential sighting yesterday! Phone call today saying that a stray matching the description of Max has been spotted in Plantation Road (not more than half a mile from the other potential sighting from two weeks ago). Have been out this evening in the area, but still no joy. Have asked the gentleman to have a look at Max on his Facebook page, to see if it was the same dog.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Phone call from Luton dog warden, saying that they thought they had recovered Max from the Luton area, although microchip details were different. After me sending further photos of him, it turned out not to be Max although very similar. I got very excited for a while.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Out this morning before daybreak. Covered quarries to the east of Heath and Reach. Nothing found thus far. Put posters up and gave leaflets to dog walkers. One dog walker had heard a story that a woman had found a GSD type dog straying a week ago and taken it to Appledown. Phoned Appledown again today to follow this lead. Would appear that no dog of this type has been taken in recently. Going to go there shortly and look for myself.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Angus. Yes, there is indeed a Quarry directly North of Willow Bank Walk. Not far from the suspected sighting last week. There are several sand quarries in the locality. Will add them to search area. Thanks GlynLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- just been looking at google earth for the area, can you advise if there is a quarry or a motocross circuit directly north to north west of Willowbank way? If it is a quarry this would be a good place to look - there are normally plenty of rabbits and good 360 vision for the dogs and there is at least one pond for drinking from http://www.multimap.com/s/qD0PhuNXLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Have just spoken to a local dog warden- just an advisory- there is a known Leonberger that is regularly straying in this area who is identical in size and colouring to Max , this area is a really busy dog walking area so hopefully soon there will be other sightings so we can rule the Leonberger out. - Just had a phone call from a lady who saw a dog about 6am last Friday 26th Feb, near Heath and Reach. She was driving, slowed down thinking it was a fox, but it was a dog on its own. She had a good view of it before carrying on. Now she has seen a poster for Max, she put in the call. The lady (Leanne) is 80% sure it is Max. Heath and Reach is a couple of miles from home, with lots of woodland. Going to poster and leaflet the area right now.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- In response to a poster, had a credible call at 22:45hrs (a week and 15 mins since Max went missing) from Phil. Potential sighting in Woodman Close, Leighton Buzzard. He said dog looked like Max, had flashing light on its collar (false) and was 'hanging around for someone'. Woodman Close is about half a mile downstream. Checked out immediately on foot and by car. Found nothing. Still a potential lead. Thanks Phil. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- I've been postering wider afield this morning, to surrounding villages. Max appears in todays edition of the Leighton Buzzard Observer. I originally asked if they would carry his poster in the notices section. They contacted me wanting to know more, so he now has a detailed article together with a photo of him in the paper. The article also makes reference to doglost, so bringing about awareness of the site. Fingers crossed for his safe return.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- If Max has simply "run off" in the opposite direction following either his nose or a moving target.. rabbit/deer/fox then he would soon be in open country upstream of the brook. Notifying Farms, postman, binmen, milkman, gamekeepers, stables in this area and posters up, just in case. Max disappeared very quickly - he was not seen entering the water however so we hope this is not the case. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- I've been out looking for Max every day since he went missing, searching from the point last seen, downstream as far as navigable. With the very high water yesterday, if he did succumb to it, he could be further afield by now. There is also the possibility that he left the water of his own accord somewhere. We keep hopeful that someone spots him soon. With his disappearance so quickly, we are at a loss for any real pointers.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Max went missing near Clipstone Weir to the bridge,Owner saw him run off along the bank, chasing wildlife.Owner called to him, but he didn?t come back. The brook was very swollen and fast flowing.Owner has searched as much as conditions have allowed but the stream is very swollen and fast.Owner does not think he has been taken. Talking to a regular dog walker who had approached from the opposite direction (who helped in the initial search), he didn?t see Max, or anyone else.Max would never stray for more than a few seconds, before returning, he is a very ?clingy? dog. Owner firmly believes he has drowned and been washed downstream. (there is obviously a possibilty that he has got out further downstream so further afield needs to be contacted)posters have been put up (with photo) on lamp posts in the area yesterday. Police, Council, Environment Agency, local vets, Appledown (location where strays are taken in this area), and various missing dog websites ? all alerted. Will contact and advise next course of action. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
