Angie, thank you so much for the update.  Little Poppy definitely fell on her paws when she met you.  You can tell from the pictures that she is an absolute cutie and obviously has a lovely, trusting nature.  I do hope everything works out with your friends but just remember us if things, for whatever reason, don't work out.   We are obviously on the same wavelength when it comes to collecting waifs and strays.  A few years ago my husband was out walking Pepper when he found an 11-month old (entire) cairn terrier bouncing in and out of the traffic at a roundabout in Southsea and in imminent danger of getting squished.  No owner is sight and total disinterest from other passersby to this poor dog's plight.  He had a ratty collar, no tag (and as we found out later that evening having visited the only 24-hour vets in the city), no chip.  No cop shop in the city wanted to know so we took him home.  He was completely honking so he had a bath (with me!), a good meal and a warm bed by the stove for the night.  The following morning I was at the dog pound just about to admit "the little man" (having first found out nothing ghastly was going to happen to him after his 7 days were up) when a car came screeching round the corner containing the owner.  I will never ever forget the look of relieve and wonderment on her face.  Tears all round (including the dog wardens) and little Barney was re-united.  AND CHIPPED ON THE SPOT BY THE DOG WARDENS.  I still get christmas cards from the owner........So jolly well done you for helping little Poppy.  Fiona  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks for that Fiona. On sunday a lovely couple (old friends) with an almost identical terrier girl are coming to see Poppy and will take her home to see if it all works out. They are obviously happy to hand her back should the genuine owner turn up but we are thinking that this is becoming unlikely but you never know..... if things don't work out I would dearly love to keep her. The reason that i am letting her go is my husband, although he thinks she's lovely, feels that with the various dogs I look after as well as our own, it might be too much! I don't want to "insist" - I already have 2 and don't want to push my luck! Yours sounds like the perfect home and I will certainly contact you if it should become neccessary but can't promise  more than that at the moment! thanks. Hello, I am a dedicated terrier owner and have had rescue dogs for the past 40 years (Goodness I sound so old but I'm only 48 - my beloved dogs have been: Bridget, Dougal, Pheobe, Molly and Chuckles).  The latter dog rescued from being run over in the Ross on Wye ring road roadworks - original owner found via the police but he did not want want him back because it would cost him too much to travel half way (Oxford) to collect him and his wife didn't like him that much anyway (AAAAAHHHH!) I would travel to the ends of the earth to rescue my dogs and bring them home but that is perhaps me?  This little one looks so like my current dog - my beloved Pepper (now 10 years old, from Battersea and in rude health).  We would very much like to give your her a home, if you can bare to part with her but only if you cannot find her original owner. Please post a response - yay or nay.  Thank you.  Fiona         Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I'm thinking she's younger than I first thought - she could be as young as 2 - her teeth are very white and she's developing a much more playful nature with us and the other dogs. she's a really sweet dog but I am worried that there's an owner out there and I hope I can find them. I've had her 2 weeks now and have sent in finder forms to dog warden but will give it plenty of time before rehoming (less likely as we fall in love with her more each day!)Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

dog warden scanned her - nothing! i have the forms to return to them after 7 days if no one comes forward. she's in season so that could be why she's wandered and then got very lost. don't think she's had a lead on before!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Angie! You're as bad as me, I did exact same thing with my latest lurcher!! What you must do though is report the find to the dog warden and complete a form saying you will keep her and return her to an owner if one tips up within 28 days, which is really tough. Or you can let the warden take her to the pound and put a reserve on her then pay to get her back after 7 days. If you don't do this the dog will never legally be yours and anyopne could come and claim her back :( Good luck!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have spoken to Angie the finder just to double check that that this little dog has got a docked tail as the likeness to Treacle is very close.  Angie will be taking her to the vets to get her scanned today. Hopefully her owner can be found soon xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

this one has a docked tail so sadly not treacle. she smells of farm but she's not a dog i've ever seen in my area and she was seen out last night. hope i haven't just kidnapped a wanderer but no, i think she's been dumped or strayed. the kids all want to keep her so we might do the seven days instead of kennels and try to find a nice home.
