kleemj, Thank you for giving us a full update of how he was found and how you then reunited him it does make the picture a lot clearer. Sometimes assupmptions are made from just one side of the story as sadly many dogs are never reunited with owners - I do understand peoples worries about reporting that they have found a dog and what may happen to them if they go into kennels. There are many if's here to consider - if Cocoa had been wearing his name disc on his collar you would have been able to reunite him straight away with just one phone call and a call to the warden would have saved a 10 days or so's worry for his owners so there are several factors that contributed here. The important thing is that you SAVED HIS LIFE and that you get him back to his owners and that he can start his medication again. Personally I would like to say THANK YOU for registering on site and updating the full story and if you ever find another stray please register it on site in the found section and hopfully a match can be made quickly & call the warden to scan for a microchip (in many but not all cases they will allow the dog to remain with the finder until owners are traced) Last edited: 2010-06-25 11:08:31 by Angus

Thank you for setting the record straight. I can fully understand your actions at the time. Your partner was a star for saving Cocoa from being knocked over. Alls well that ends well and the little dog is now safely back home.

i would just like to explain what actually happened as some of the comments on here are not true and im quite upset by them ,it was my partner that found the dog he was driving along the a45 back to northampton and he saw something running into the road he pulled over as did a couple other cars at one point there was a lorry coming and he was braking and some how the lovely little cocoa had managed to run under the lorry and come out the other side without being hurt,my partner managed to get close enough to get him out of the road and then he put the dog in his car as noone else was doing anything he drove down the road and pulled over where it was safe to and he waited to see if he could see his owners anywhere he presumed they must be very close as why would a little dog be running round the a45, about 15-20 mins later he then drove back to our house as no-one was around and he wasnt just going to leave the dog where he found him, cocoa was very nervous and shakey which of course is to be expected after what had just happened, a few hours later he had relaxed and he was very comfortable around me more than anyone but i noticed he very very timid and if me or anyone moved suddenly or went to stroke him he would flinch or cower, obviously we now know this to be part of his condition but at the time put yourself in our shoes we had just saved him from almost certainly bein knocked over on the a45 and his behaviour was very strange we seriously thought he had been mistreated and dumped,i said to my partner that i wanted to keep hold of him rather than taking him to a vets and risk him being returned to bad owners or being put in kennels and just left there on his own. this tuesday i was driving along the a45 when i saw a sandwich board saying about a missing chihuahua, that was the first sign i had seen siince we found him we dont drive into the villages so we wouldnt of known about posters that had been put up my partner was in wales visiting family with his dad at the time and when i rang him to give the contact details i said to can you please make sure that the little dog was definately safe to return as my partner is not very confident on the phone his dad rang up and clearly he has not explained fully what happened, cocoa was not returned due to his father having a guilty conscience, if you put yourself in our position any decent animal lover could have mistook his behaviour which we now know to be part of his condition for being a mistreated dog and the fact we found him on the a45 convinced us even more that he had been dumped.i have a chihuahua myself and if she ever went missing i would be devestated so i cant even begin to imagine what her owners had been going through i know we should of took him straight to police station but we thought we was doing the right thing we would never intentionally keep someones dog knowing that his owners where looking for him,im just glad the beautiful little dog has been returned safely back to his owners and this has made me realise about tagging and microchipping my dog it just goes to show it could happen to anyone and not everyone out there are honest and probably wouldnt think twice about not returning her. i apologise for not reporting that we had found a dog but we was worried that he might of been returned to a bad owner and we wanted to check for ourselves that he was absolutely safe i knew that if he wasnt dumped and was just lost there would be signs or something and the minute i saw the sign we got in contact

Great News Liz and thanks for all the work that you have done on little Cocoa. well done that lad's Father for being the person who enabled this reunion.

Great news- Cocoa has been brought back home, safe and well. Thank goodness the Father if this person had a conscience. I will now tell her where to go to get him microchipped. Liz
Liz Cox
Thank you for that, and yes let's hope so! Cheers, Liz

Yes I remember Alfie. Perhaps a gentle reminder of Alfie would prompt the police to be extra careful this time.

Lets hope that the Northants Police deal with this quickly and get poor Cocoa home and to his meds

Hi, I have just been talking to Cocoa's owner- The lad who picked him up, took him home and kept him! His father has phoned her today, but is being very vague and says his son also has a chihuahua, and he will be gutted if he has to give him back!!!! The police have been given the father's number and they are treating it as theft. For those of you who remember Alfie who disappeared from the same police station, I hope to God they can do better this time around. I'll keep you posted. Any chance of bumping Cocoa back up please. Liz

He is the one with the collar on. Thank you for that. Liz

Which dog in the photo is Cocoa? Once I know I will put an advert in The Countryman's Weekly magazine
Liz Cox
Cocoa was picked up by a young man in a silver car, on the A45 heading towards Northampton. The police are dealing with it as theft, but did not phone the owner back, when they had said they would. This poor little boy needs medication by now.

Hi , I’m sorry to hear Cocoa is missing. Someone will try and make personal contact with you as soon as possible, to offer advice and help. Firstly contact dog wardens, vets and local rescue centres. Give them all a detailed description of your dog with any distinguishing marks/scars. You can find vets in your own area by clicking on the green logo which says “Find Any UK VET”, on the right hand side of the page under the “latest missing dogs” photo - top right. Please email admin@doglost.co.uk with a photo of your dog quoting the dog’s Doglost ID number, or upload a photo yourself on “update details” above. You can also add comments and update the dog’s status, e.g.sightings, re-united etc. by clicking on “add a comment” at the bottom of the page. If your dog is microchipped please let the microchip company know that your dog is missing and at the same time, check that all details held, are up to date. You can obtain a “MISSING” poster from "view poster" above. You can only print posters when you are signed in. Start postering now! I CANNOT EMPHASISE HOW VERY IMPORTANT THIS IS. If your dog is picked up and taken to rescue kennels, it can be re-homed legally, after 7 days, so please try to visit rescue centres, to look for your dog. Do not rely on checking by phone alone, as other people may not recognise your dog by your description.
