What a clever little man to survive all this time unharmed! So pleased to see he is back with his owners who must by now be exhausted. The New Forest is such a vast area to search! A happy ending to a nightmare

So pleased that little Buddy is now found and safe. What a resilient little chap. I'm sure the owner will take those ticks seriously, they seem particularly virulent in the New Forest area. Welcome home Buddy xx

Just had a call from Buddy's owner. He has been caught! Someone found him under a bush & have him safely in their car! Thank you that person! Owner is over the moon & on their way to be re united with little monkey Buddy. He has a few ticks but seems ok. It looks as though he was making his way back to the campsite.I am so pleased for all concerned here. Buddy's owner had done so much to get him back including taking time off work to travel back to the area & search. Well done ! Welcome home little poppet! Stay close to mum & dad now !XX

Had a text from Buddy's owner. He has moved out of the area he was last spotted in.Now been seen 3 times in East Boldre,6 miles away. Seems to have come out of the thickest part of the forest & now in farmer's fields where it's more open. Owner is postering this area now. Have advised to scent etc the new area.

Thanks Teddy's Mum. I have spoken to Buddy's owner this morning & they are going to work on keeping Buddy in the area with food & scent items. This little guy seems to be staying in the one area but is scared so owners are going to take the very passive approach as you have said Teddy's mum, getting low down ,whimpering & holding out food if they do see him up close.A lot of local people the DW have been brilliant in helping here, thank you.
Teddys Mum - Area Volunteer, West London
When you or the owners next see him...lie down and whimper, curiosity will get the better of him and he will approach rather than run. Try to tempt him with food holding your hand out but avoiding eye contact. Good luck

Bec, it's quite difficult to know. Sometimes other dogs can actually encourage or coax a dog out of hiding. It can depend on how the missing dog is. I feel that your help here is invaluable as sightings give owners an idea of where Buddy is. Buddy ran from his owners too & this often happens. The best plan is to set down food & place owner's scented garments such as socks etc in the area.I have done this with dogs on the run & it has helped to keep them in the area. Thanks for your help here Bec;-)
Bec
given that info Steph, is it best to stay away while the owners try and catch Buddy? I did feel that being there with my dog on Saturday probably wasn't helping the situation. He's abviously been there a while given other sightings and is near to water and shelter with the trees etc.

Bumped due to SIGHTING!

Good to see there has been a sighting of Buddy, thank you Bec. When dogs are on the run like this, they rarely come when called ,even by their owhers, they go into a semi feral state of mind.Buddy needs to be kept in this area by putting down food, preferably smelly stuff like pilchards & also owners scent.lynn rees ,I have sent you a email with some info on this procedure ,my contact details are on this email too. Please call me & I can help you further.Steph x

Took my dog for a walk between roundhills campsite and brockenhurst and Buddy walked out infront of us - about 6 foot away. He's very small (smaller than he looks on his poster) and bolted so fast I couldn't follow him. I went to find the number to ring his owners but by a weird coincidence they happened to be driving past, saw him, stopped the car and got out - they were a few feet away but he wouldn't go to them and ran off. Lost again. He no longer has a collar and lead on and is clearly frightened. Calling his name is probably not the best thing to do - I was walking quietly with my dog when he came out but ran as soon as I bent down and called him. He's certainly not going to willingly be caught.
lynn rees
been out today and nothing, shouted his name and no sightings, hard to work out which way hes gone really ,he could be miles away ! so hope we find him soon x
Caz
Thanks Wendy and Lynn. I'm out every day, location varies, but often around DP-Beaulieu. Was up at Longdown this morning first thing but no sign there. Hoping Buddy makes an appearance soon.

do we know where this derelict church was is it the one at hardley ? im friends with wendy and im going out looking everyday x

Buddy was apparently sighted over the weekend between Beaulieu and Dibden Purlieu according to NFdog mailing. Walked my dogs and children up there for 3 hours this afternoon and evening with no sighting. This is only a couple of miles from where we sighted him last Tuesday. By weird coincidence bumped into Buddy's owners in car park who were down from Margate to spend some time looking for him. They are desperate to have him back. Its only just over a mile from my home so owners have my phone number and will let me know of any other sightings, as its taking too long for sighting to be reported and posted. havent even heard of the sighting at the derelict church or even where that is.
Caz
I saw his poster nr Beaulieu last week. Sorry to see Buddy is still missing. Have there been any further sightings, and/or do you have preferred areas for local dog walkers to target? Last edited: 2010-08-03 12:43:30 by Caz

Buddy looks like a Bordeaux puppy. Please let this be known to any shelters/wardens that he is reported as missing to. Good luck. He's such a cutie.

Spoken to owner this morning. She has had an offer from a gentleman who runs a pack of beagles and he is going out to try and track down little Buddy. There was also a sighting of a dog matching Buddy's description near a derilict churh so the man is going to use that as his starting point. Owner has sent posters out as far away as 100 miles and the local radio are putting out regular appeals.

I phoned the owners on Tuesday evening after sighting the dog at hawkhill on road between Brockenhurst and Beaulieu. When we saw it, it was running after a bird towards the enclosure and away from the road, it was only a few feet from us in the car so no doubt as to matching the description and photo, stopped the car and returned to location seen but not there, we searched for 20 minutes before returning home (10 minutes away) to get the owners phone number from NFDOG email. Owners were at location within 15 minutes of me calling them but no luck. I also emailed New Forest Dog on Tuesday evening, with this sighting but as of yet they have not sent out updates and their lost dog update link is not working on the website. Hawkhill is less than 2 miles as the crow flies from wher the dog went missing. Owners have put more posters up in the area. We have been out looking again today and will do so again over the next few days.

Have put on twitter as Brockenhurst New Forest Hants. Will circulate every few hours.

This is my area but unfortunately we are currently in France. I understand local dog group NFDOG are aware and have emailed their membership, so local people will be looking. Good luck with finding Buddy.

ukcampsite has many of the caravan sites listed that are in this area. Contact the sites and ask if they will put up a missing poster. This is now the busy season for camping and caravanners so they might be able to keep their eyes open and see him when they are out and about.
AlisonH
Family have had to leave the area and go back home to Margate due to work commitments so really need help of someone local. They did search as much of the undergrowth as possible but it is such a vast area he could be anywhere.
AlisonH
Have requested photo. Really worry about dogs when they escape with the lead attached, could be caught up anywhere and be too scared to bark or respond to being called.
