- So pleased to see this boy back home where he belongs. It still amazes me that people think they can just drive off with someone's dog without reporting him to the dog warden that they have found him found. I hope he has been well cared for while away.

- Hello All - I can FINALLY bring GOOD NEWS!! following the wide publicity from this website, posters, newspapers and radio, a member of the public came forward this evening and we have just collected our lovely dog from the Mannington/Horton area. He is very well, has been checked by the vet and is sleeping on the kitchen floor. Thank you so much to all those who helped and gave advice. Love from Tom and family

- Just logged in hoping to see if this lovely boy was home. It's worth visiting the vets in person with decent colour posters. I know our vet gets lots of faxes, in black and white, which get put on the notice board but are lost with all the info on there.

- Thank you so much Mel - I am extremely grateful for your help. Unfortunately we have still heard nothing about his whereabouts.

- Just been speaking to our postman who always notices new dogs in the area - how about a poster at your local sorting office / post offices? Will drop some off to Lymington, Brockenhurst and do local vets, pet shops, SCATS etc in case someone from this end of the Forest has found him. Partner is putting one in Garages / post office in Cadnam area.
- 2010-09-01 11:18 Mel
- I am a flat coat owner living not too far from you in the New Forest and can imagine what you must be going through - please let me know if there is anything I can do to help. 07778527771. A couple of years ago I found a dog on the main road on a Friday night and was very surprised at how difficult it was to reunite her with her owners over a weekend - it took me nearly four days to find them despite trying all the obvious (and some less obvious) routes.

- Thanks Folly. We have contacted new forest radio and they will be saying something on air this morning. The other stations aren't replying. I'm hoping petlog has notified all the vets by now. I'm off out to poster more car parks, shops and petrol stations etc.
- 2010-08-31 20:35 Folly
- Just looked it up for you. The NF radio is Forest FM (92.3) Tel number is 01202 820006 Hope they will help.
- 2010-08-31 20:32 Folly
- Radio Solent seems to be the most popular but I know they have refused to feature lost dogs in the past. There is also Wave 105. There is/was a New Forest radio, based at Verwood. Not sure if they are still running but worth a try. Cedar Vets at Ferndown were unaware of your missing dog at 3pm today. A poster in waiting rooms may raise awareness and someone may have seen someone with a new brown dog. Last edited: 2010-08-31 20:33:28 by Folly

- Thankyou so much for all your ongoing help. Folly - yes we went up to Ashley Heath RSPCA today and they now have a copy of the poster. I've been round the whole of Wimborne postering the main shops and notice boards. The local vets should have been emailed via pet log/ the kennel club as we paid for them to do so today. Tomorrow I'm going to go further a field and maybe do the major pet stores in bournemouth/ringwood. Do you know any local radio stations other than 'heart' and 'fire' as these are not responding. As Mollychops has said, there should be a notice in the daily echo from tomorrow for four days. Let's hope something good happens tomorrow.

- Thanks Folly, all help here hugely appreciated x
- 2010-08-31 18:40 Folly
- I expect you hve already done so but have you notified RSPCA at Ashley Heath? They will refuse to take him from any finder but it would still be a good idea to let them know about him. Please let me know how I can help. I only live 5 mins away in West Moors. A poster in all localish vets surgeries would be a good idea. If not done, I could do some of these for you.
- 2010-08-31 18:15 Mollychops
- Ive suggested Owners starts to go further afield with his posters, alerting people in local big towns, ie Wimbourne and Bournemouth. Posties, shops etc etc, his chip company have alerted all vets etc in a 3o mile radious. The dog is going in local paper tomorrow, lets hope this bring some news come home soon you lovely boy x

- Good advice from Owl. Visit the pound kennels in person - then they can put a face to your name. Take some other pictures to them. Not all the kennels can identify a black flatcoat, let alone a rarer liver one. Post on here every day with details of where you've postered and what you've done. This will help other volunteers to concentrate their efforts in the right places. Print out several 'business card' size pieces of paper with your details on and a picture. Give them out to all dog walkers you see. Then if they happen to see your dog and they're not near a poster they can call you. Most people have mobiles. Worth putting lots of effort in now whilst postering as it'll be fresh in folks' minds. If you ask dog walkers if they've seen him they may have done but need memories jogging - how often do you see a loose dog in a park but assume the owner's nearby?
- 2010-08-31 16:10 tomfoz
- We've still heard nothing - not sure what to do from here. Every dog warden in our county has been called and ALL the local vets notified. I have postered in the local town as well.
- 2010-08-31 11:15 Owl
- Tomfoz, get something in the local paper and see if the local radio will put out a call for you. If these people intended to steal him they were not likely to go round asking people if they knew whose dog it was. They would surely not have wanted to draw attention to themselves. Don't just phone the pound kennels, go round there in person. You would be surprised how often a dog is listed under the wrong breed. That might well happen to your boy, as Baggydog says. He could be mistaken for an Irish setter x choc lab. The liver flatcoats are not well known. I don't think I have ever met one.
- 2010-08-31 10:04 Baggy Dog
- Don't panic too much yet ... they may have tried to phone the authorities but couldn't over the weekend. I see he's microchipped - if it's caring dog people they'll take him to a vet to check that. I suggest a big colour ad in the best-read local paper - that may do the trick if he's been stolen. A big poster campaign will also help. I saw the notice about this on the flatcoat forums so hopefully any FCR owners near you will be able to help.

- Thankyou all for your help. Now the bank holiday is over, we have called the police/ dog wardens/ councils and local vets, but no one has reported him found. It has been confirmed that he was in the back of a 'large black car' 20 minutes after he first went missing and that the drivers of this car were asking people if they owned the dog. At this time there were no posters up so the people who potentially have our dog will not have our contact details. We are not sure what to make of this. Why, if they have our dog, have these people not made contact with the DW/ police? Although it may be too early to say, I am very worried that he has been stolen. I am now going to poster a much larger area in the hope that someone else has spotted him.
- 2010-08-30 22:15 Baggy Dog
- Sorry to hear about this missing dog. At the risk of stating the obvious ... my flatcoat was black, but I occasionally had a friend's liver FCR to stay. People thought she was a setter, or a collie cross, or a brown long haired lab ... so keep an open mind when phoning the dog warden/rescue centres. Fingers crossed for a swift homecoming.

- Thank you all so much for your help. Not yet found, but I've had a phone call saying he was picked up last night. However, we don't know who by or where he's gone. Hoping once bank holiday is over we will be able to contact the dog warden.

- The dog rsn off 100m from home into a very very dense wooded area, he should have known his way home. He is either stuck by his lead somewhere or has been picked up by somewone as its a very popular area. I dont know this area but it is on the info above. Police have been contacted. DW tomorrow, A photo is in progress then postering can start big time. Im sending out advice sheets now.,

- will make contact

- Sorry to hear that your pet is missing. Someone will try to make personal contact with you as soon as possible, to offer advice and help. Firstly contact dog wardens, vets and local rescue centres. Give them all a detailed description of your dog with any distinguishing marks/scars. You can find vets in your own area by clicking on the green logo which says “Find Any UK VET”, on the right hand side of the page under the “latest missing dogs” photo - top right. If you have a picture of your dog, please upload one to the Doglost site, (if it hasn’t been done already) by clicking on “update details” on your dog’s page. Browse for the picture on your PC, add it and then click “update”. You must be logged in to Doglost to do this. Alternatively, email a picture to admin@doglost.co.uk giving your dog’s ID number, or name and postcode, and someone will upload it for you. As soon as a photo is added mailings will be sent out to all local helpers who will help in the search for your dog. You can also add comments and update the dog’s status, e.g.sightings, re-united etc. by clicking on “add a comment” at the bottom of the page. If your dog is microchipped please let the microchip company know that your dog is missing and at the same time, check that all details held, are up to date. You can obtain a “MISSING” poster from "view poster" above. You can only print posters when you are signed in. Start postering now! I CANNOT EMPHASISE HOW VERY IMPORTANT THIS IS. If your dog is picked up and taken to rescue kennels, it can be re-homed legally, after 7 days if it has no identification (microchip or ID disk attached), so please try to visit rescue centres, to look for your dog. Do not rely on checking by phone alone, as other people may not recognise your dog by your description.
