- What an amazing story . You only have to type poppy terrier France, in google and it's all over the first 2 pages. So happy for her, but how alwful for her owners to go through a terrible time. Well done all involved and doglover what a great great person you are to do all this for this little girl. Let's hope all this publicity can help others be reunited, poppys appeal is very fitting. Well done all xx
- 2010-09-19 22:40 dinkydoodle
- Well done everyone, especially wonderful doglover who got Poppy all the publicity which resulted in all the pieces in the puzzle being put together in the end. Great news that the lovely Poppy is now safe and DogLost has had a lot of publicity which I hope will help us to help other dogs that do not get this sort of coverage. Thoughts with the owners at this sad time. Stay safe la petite chien.x.

- 2010-09-19 20:54 Jayne - Founder Doglost.
- Owner who lives in France had given Poppy to be looked after by a local family as he was over in the UK as his father was dying. Local family never informed him that Poppy was missing to save him the distress. Owner arrived back recently after his father died and would like to thank everyone...but at the same time does not want publicity as family are in grieving. Thank you everyone!

- Helen thanks so much ....xxx and lets hope the new lead is Poppy!
- 2010-09-17 16:14 Jayne - Founder Doglost.
- Possible lead phoned in by a Sun reader who reckons this dog is now named Domino and belongs to a Mr Ron Bowsie from Weymouth who recently moved to france. We have no contact number for Ron and cannot be sure of the spelling of the name. It is feasible that the dog has changed hands since being chipped in 2002. The French press will be covering the story tomorrow so we may hear then.

- Thank goodness, fantastic news. The main thing is she is SAFE for now.
- 2010-09-17 13:54 doglover1
- Hi Helen, Thank you so much for your very kind offer of a foster home for Poppy, she is now SAFE which is great news and she is going into a foster home very soon, then if her owners do not come forward we have many new home offers for her in France, Thank you once again.
- 2010-09-17 13:48 Helen
- Hi. We are able to offer Poppy a foster home either in France (about an hour from Toulouse) or in the UK - if it is possible to bring her here depending on the passport status. If it would help, we could give her a home in France until her passport is finalised and she can be returned to the UK in 6 months where we could then home her either on a foster of permenant basis. Please let me know if this is needed. Thankyou.

- Tattooing used to be compulsory in France. Now it can be tattoo or microchip. French insurance companies have different policies. Have they looked to see if he has a tattoo? If there is one, it could be either in the groin area or in the ear. Last edited: 2010-09-16 17:38:29 by colliebird

- I have no joy either at the Park Roads I have called at - 2 didn't have the number of the house in them; I popped a poster through the letterbox of the house I did find, they were out, with a note asking them to contact doglost if they had any connection to or info on Poppy/Barton. I have 3 more Park Roads to call at tomorrow. If only Poppy could tell us her story.

- I had no joy at the two park road addresses that I called at and have also checked for a redirection on the one nearest me but no joy. I have emailed heart radio and ask them to mention this story and also contacted vets local to all the listed park roads in Bristol but none have any details registered. Hope somebody else gets on better Lizz

- If the ID has an old address for them in Bristol, has anyone checked with the Post Office for a forwarding address? If the person's full name was known from the ID (or even just their initials) has anyone checked the Voters List for a person of that initial and surname in the Bristol area?

- Meeting with the Bristol Evening post Newspaper today for Photos ! All being well Poppy's story will be in the newspaper tomorrow. I will send in the link to post on her page so you can all read it.

- I will also be willing to contribute to the costs in getting this baby back to the UK and with a family that can give her the love and attention she deserves. I cant really do a lot else as it seems so many people are willing to help, However if there is any other help required please let me know. x

- SURELY IF SOMEONE HAD GENUINELY LOST THEIR DOG THEY WOULD BE PUTTING POSTERS UP OR ASKING AT THE LOCAL POLICE STATION. WOULD THE KENNELS WHERE POPPY IS FOLLOW THIS UP?

- Great info Doremial, yes I expect there is alot going on behind the scenes. Nettie, I personally have not made any phone calls to Barton but I am calling at the addresses in Park Rd in Southville, Stapleton and Kingswood this afternoon asking for info.
- 2010-09-15 11:47 Nettie
- Before I start phoning all the Bartons in Bristol has anyone done this already, I don't want to upset them if they've already received calls about Poppy. Have FB'd Poppy's plight which is also listed on several Expat France forums in the Pets Section. Poppy is in France at the local SPA (France's RSPCA equivalent) but I wasn't aware that she is at risk of pts until now. Doremiel has mentioned bringing Poppy back to the UK to do quarantine here, in my opinion, if there is a will to get her back to the UK her best option would be to be vaccinated and bloodtested in France and spend 6-7 months in kennels in France rather than Q kennels here - at least in France she would have the freedom of walks and other canine company whereas that is not the case in Q kennels. I do have a friend who runs kennels in the Dordogne region which isn't that far from Toulouse but is quite a journey down from Calais, I do also know of other kennels further up country.

- I'm sure there's a lot going on behind the scenes already but have you considered national newspapers - ex pat facing death abroad type story. A lot of the nationals feature dog stories from time to time and this has got to be newsworthy surely? I was also given this info by a friend who was in the courier business, and now works in rescue: "The best you could possibly get from france was her brought back to the uk under special licence thru an import/export company to go straight into quarantine unle...ss her owner is found and passport located first and the passport travels with her. someone mentioned do ferry companies make records of dogs travelling out of the uk... i can confirm NO they dont at dover on any of the ferrylines, because passport rules only apply when returning to the uk. not many folk would take a longer ferry crossing with a dog. cant comment on eurotunnel cos they dont allow dogs on the freight train or freight on the passenger train so i never used it. there is no charge to take a dog TO france by ferry from dover, because pet passport rules dont apply, they only charge for the RETURN leg because thats when they have to do the paperwork regarding passport. you have to declare you have a dog in the car tho and they put a pic of a dog on your windscreen tag so boat staff know theres one in there and dont park you somewhere unsafe such as on deck in the sun. i used to transport dogs as part of my business, i was an authorised and regulated transporter by DEFRA and the uk state veterinary dept which you need to be to transport for profit , and as i was licenced for journeys over 8 hours i could do european runs too, holding info and proving to them i had contingency plans for ferry crossings, passport failures, illness of the dogs or myself etc etc. my own dog was on his third passport when he was pts, he kept getting new ones cos there was no room left in the old ones LOL. freight drivers own dogs travel free so banjo came as often as he wanted. if ever you get queries relating to pet passports entry and exit requirements for eu feel free to pick my brains. if im not sure i say so, but can always go look it up knowing where to look. if a dog is returned to the uk on special licence (without a passport) he can be released early if the passport is found and its proved ALL requirements were up to date etc. both the chipping company and the passport should actually have been changed to the new details , whethe it will cause a problemr if it comes to light they havnt and the dog has travelled i realy dont know, but it aint something id av done!" If there is any help you need approaching papers, or anything please let us know. This little girl is too sweet to lose forever. - I will be calling at all the Park Roads in Bristol over the next couple of days, let's hope the Bristol Evening Post runs a good article on little Poppy and we can find out where she belongs. I will also put her details on gumtree and trade-it. Just wondering if she has gone abroad with her family, Toulouse is where a lot of people working for Airbus in Bristol are posted - I will see if I can get some details in that direction too.Last edited: 2010-09-14 17:35:07 by dinkydoodle

- Hi, I live at one of the number 1 park roads in Bristol and I believe another is a shop so maybe that could rule two of the park roads out. I would be happy to ring around anywhere or do anything to help

- I have just come off the phone to a very nice man at Bristol Evening Post newspaper( largest newspaper in Bristol) and they are VERY interested in running a story on this lovely girl, I am sending through her picture and details etc now and they asked for my contact details for any further questions, He was very interested how this dog from Bristol ended up in France ! and I explained we are desperate to reunite her with her family as she has little time left, Also spoke lots about Doglost so lets hope they give us a mention in the newspaper.Last edited: 2010-09-14 17:06:35 by doglover1

- lus another option. if we have locals in Bristol area- could they ask local radio or parers to put out a message. someone might know if family are on holiday or have gone abroad to live. If we state barton family of park road bristol with a terrier called Poppy im sure someone would recognise. I recon this dog is either a patterdale or patterdale X
- 2010-09-14 16:08 CJ - Police Liaison & SE Regional Coordinator
- Im not sure what details are logged at ports via pet passport scheme but wouold it be worth finding out if owners- dogs- details are logged when dogs taken into/out of country?/ Other option is if we can have full chip number ( ive emailed to ask) we might be able to back track to when implanted and if at vets could have more details. ALSO need full postcode address as more than 1 Park roads in Bristol is a letter being sent to last known address?? if moved owners or neighbours might know. CJ
