- This is so heartbreaking. My thoughts are with the owners who must be devastated. But what a wonderful man to both bury and retrieve Jan. A very kind caring person. I take my hat off to you sir...

- I am so very sorry. This is just so tragic and my thoughts are with Jan's owners at this very sad time. What a kind man to have done what he did though. If only there was some way of keeping animals off the railway lines - far too many are lost this way. RIP beautifaul Jan xx

- This caring samaritan who took care of Jan when she was killed deserves a Doglost good citizen award for caring above and beyond the call.

- I am so very sorry to say that Jan's owner has just called me with the devastating news that poor Jan had died on the railway line in the Rawcliffe area last Monday 20th September. A lady who had seen the posters for Jan found out that a very kind man had found her shortly after she was hit by the train and had very caringly buried her. Today this special man dug Jan's body up again and wrapped her up before returning her to her owners so that they could bury her. Debra, Jan's owner, is just so grateful for what this man has done for them and is just so thankful that someone as kind and caring as him was there for Jan after her accident. I too feel so touched by his actions and personally thank him and hope that if he reads this he will know much his compassion has helped Jan's owners at such a tragic time.I know just how very much Jan was loved by her owners and what a very special girl she was. Rest in peace beautiful girl xxxxxLast edited: 2010-09-26 20:21:27 by Jumanji - Co-ordinator.South.Yorkshire

- Unfortunately the helper who ssw jan yesterday was unable to find her when she went back with her car. The sighting was at around 12.10 and jan was walking along Hatfield Road between the Chase Pub and Hatfields Pub restaurant walking in the direction of Dunsville.

- It would make my day too if Jan came home as I am the proud owner of five GSDs and it is my birthday. Try some tripe the smellier the better to entice her out.

- I have discussed with her owner about keeping low, not making any sudden movements and not making eye contact with her if she shows herself. We have discussed scenting and taking along some sardines. The lady owner does not drive and its not exactly easy for her to get over to the area Jan is being sited in. But she is determined to get her girl back and is making every effort she can. When Jan vanished she was staying with a relative of the owners as they were on holiday which she has done on other occasions. This is about 4/5 miles from where she actually lives and if the sightings are of her she is not moving in the direction of home but could be trying to find the property she vanished from. Oh and Happy birthday Barney and Ozzie's mum !Last edited: 2010-09-22 15:44:02 by Jumanji - Co-ordinator.South.Yorkshire

- What about a portable barbecue and some nice smelly sausages to entice her out? Do her owners also know to keep low to the ground and not look at her directly if she does appear? Would love to see this beautiful girl reunited today (my birthday).

- I have just spoken to Jan's owner and there have been at least 3 SIGHTINGS of her since she wandered off. One was near the railway bridge at Stainforth on Sunday 12th September which was the day she went missing. Then another in Kirton Lane, Stainforth area and then again yesterday, 19th September , near the railway bridge at Moorends !! I have advised her owner to poster heavily in these areas and also further afield and to keep checking with dog wardens and stray kennels both locally and in the wider area ~ Last edited: 2010-09-21 11:16:58 by Jumanji - Co-ordinator.South.Yorkshire

- Have emailed extensive advice to you Debra. Sorry to see that Jan is missing. Someone will try to make personal contact with you as soon as possible, to offer advice and help. Firstly contact dog wardens, vets and local rescue centres. Give them all a detailed description of your dog with any distinguishing marks/scars. You can find vets in your own area by clicking on the green logo which says “Find Any UK VET”, on the right hand side of the page under the “latest missing dogs” photo - top right. As soon as a photo is added mailings will be sent out to all local helpers who will help in the search for your dog. You can also add comments and update the dog’s status, e.g.sightings, re-united etc. by clicking on “add a comment” at the bottom of the page. If your dog is microchipped please let the microchip company know that your dog is missing and at the same time, check that all details held, are up to date. You can obtain a “MISSING” poster from "view poster" above. You can only print posters when you are signed in. Start postering now! I CANNOT EMPHASISE HOW VERY IMPORTANT THIS IS. If your dog is picked up and taken to rescue kennels, it can be re-homed legally, after 7 days if it has no identification (microchip or ID disk attached), so please try to visit rescue centres, to look for your dog. Do not rely on checking by phone alone, as other people may not recognise your dog by your description.
