We are all back home in Northumberland now, safe and sound, after the worst 19 hours imaginable.
It was a comfort to know that there was an organisation like DogLost to turn to. When we could get a phone signal we had friends register Belle as lost on our behalf. We didn't give up hope for a moment, but I honestly didn't think we would get her back. As has already been said, it's a huge area: 100,000 acres of dense, exceptionally tall, conifers. There was only 1 track through it and we found Belle 4.1 miles into the forest. She was tired, hungry, dirty and VERY smelly.
Thanks for all your good wishes and thanks for being there.
I must also thank the local people. I thought that there would be polite interest but Belle would be just a tourist's dog gone wild in the forest. The concern was just outstanding and everyone was so kind. There were too many to thank, and I don't know all of their names, but we were deeply touched by their kindness and support.
Thanks also to friends who offered to come and help, and particularly Penny and Denise, who refused to take no for an answer!

spoken again with owner - understatement to say that she sounds very relieved to have found Belle - she was spotted by a fellow dog walker out with his collies but retreated when his dogs approached her - she returned to the forest track as owners arrived in the area, this forest is huge covering some 100000 acres of land.

Owner has just managed to get a signal on her phone - Belle has been found in the last 5 mins safe - owner will update later x
