DogLostAngus
I have just been speaking with PaulaK who has been out looking for him - Lisa has posted on this but it may have been missed - A dog matching Tarka's description was picked up by out of hours warden - Rescue are on the way to the holding kennels to check him out - fingers crossed evryone x
Nanny Noodle
Is it worth getting posters out to Wisley RHS gardens? It's on the other side of the A3 but will at least help getting the word out? I've tried calling them but office is closed,
Nanny Noodle
So sorry, I've been out there over 3 hours this morning and have nothing I can report. Everyone I spoke to walking has seen the posters but also stopped several horse riders who were not aware so have passed on all info to them. I can't get back again today as I have my grand-daughter with me & she's exhausted bless her, but if there's still no news will go back in the morning.
(((hugs))) Katrina
Lisa Baker
Keeping everything crossed - the girls are enroute to a kennel that is holding a dog that fits his exact description - Please please god it's Tarka & they can get him to his rescue home tonight!! Paws crossed everyone!! Will update as/when I hear xx
JacquiCaren
IIRC John (Biggsd) has a "capture cage" and he lives nearby.
I will check with John and see if it is still there and available to borrow - if we get some sightings. The only problem is that it requires hourly (max) checks :-(

Just back from searching - been out since 7:30am & no sightings as yet :0( Have put posters up & handed leaflets to dog walkers, horse riders etc. in East Horsley, Ockham Village (really nice lady grabbed me & is going to do a mail shot to all Ockham residents as she is on the residents committee & walks in the airfield there too. The Drift Golf Club, Poynters Road Stables, Pound Farm Stables, Poynters Nurseries (as they own some of the surrounding fields & are looking too). Surrounding Dog friendly pubs - The Cricketers at Downside, The Black Swan Ockham & the Plough between Ockham & Cobham on Plough lane. Will go back to the common later this afternoon with the Pilchards in tomato sauce that Jemima suggested. Have crossposted on Facebook too.....

Just setting off in a minute, dogs are already in car waiting. Wispa the young dog is usually OK with other dogs on their patch, but not cat friendly. We can stay over with relative in Barnet but if anyone has any ideas for anything nearer it would be great, as if we don't get Tarka today we will be out again first thing tomorrow. Don't know about ace dog-tracker, I just have a dog with an ace nose!
Black Retriever X Rescue
We have ace dog-tracker Phoebe on way from Derbyshire - should be arriving Ockham 3.30pm - 4pm. Given the v short notice, Phoebe is bringing an old dog with her who is too frail to accompany the tracking. Is there anyone who could sit in the car at Ockham for us while we're tracking? Also, Phoebe and her two dogs (one the oldster, the other the tracking dog, female, not always fab with other dogs.. well, except for finding them!) will need to stay over tonight. Can anyone recommend anywhere local that is comfortable and will take her and her two dogs? If so, please call me on the mobile above or email jem@blackretrieverx.co.uk. Am just setting out again now to meet Phoebe. Thank you to everyone who is helping. We WILL find this boy...
MJ
I will go and join the search as soon as organised. Hoping that my own black lab girl will attract the poor boy. He must have been cold last night.MJ (female!)
Black Retriever X Rescue
I can't get down there today unfortunately (I am an hour and a half away and today is a busy rescue day) so would really, really appreciate any and all help to get the poster up and out/flyers printed and distributed locally, inc to houses if possible as he may be drawn to a quiet garden close to food, especially around the Black Swan area. Lisa has been to the car park this morning - all v quiet but no sign of him - and is now walking the Common. Come on Tarka... be brave... lots of people looking for you who won't hurt you. We just need to know where you are...Last edited: 2010-10-16 08:50:47 by Black Retriever X Rescue

Sorry that I can't join the search today, this is an area where I used to often walk with my dogs, not so nice now they have 'massacred' the woodland, though it may make it easier to see a roaming dog I spose. I am away from home this weekend unfortunately, I'll certainly get there Monday but so hoping that won't be needed and he will be safe by then. Good luck to Paula & her 'ladies team' x and everyone else involved of course.
Black Retriever X Rescue
He is nervous of traffic so am hoping he will have moved away from the M25/A3 - and possibly from the car park too as there is a lot of traffic noise there and a lot of people. It doesn't help that it's a very well-known public sex area, with a lot of men parking up, walking into the bushes and back again at all times (v unpleasant but should say that all those we approached yesterday were very helpful). I suspect he might have headed east which is a much quieter area. If there's anyone who could poster in and around the Black Swan, and perhaps at the v posh houses in the area (big quiet gardens which might prove a lure) that would be fantastic - as would on the other side of the A3 on and around Wisley Common as the footbridge over the A3 to that area is v close to where he went missing. As am sure everyone knows, he is VERY nervous. If anyone sees him, please call rather than try to catch him unless you are sure you are not to scare him off. He has no collar on so a slip lead will be needed. If he is grabbed, he WILL bite. He may be happy to come up to and follow a woman on her own, though. My email if needed (with me at all times) is jem@blackretrieverx.co.ukLast edited: 2010-10-16 08:01:27 by Black Retriever X Rescue

Will go to Ockham Common now to have a walk round. Keeping fingers crossed the poor frightened boy is still there.

Poor Tarka must be so confused and scared. I hope you find him safely tomorrow.
Lisa Baker
Will be there first thing tomorrow morning with fresh food & water & looking. Will put posters up in Ockham, East & West Horsley, Effingham & surrounding areas & keep everything crossed that we find this poor boy & soon. Will let the two local vets know he's missing too incase anyone tries to take him in & also alert the local farmers & stables - Lisa
Black Retriever X Rescue
Hello all... Tarka is one of our rescue dogs. We saved him from being PTS in Ireland 2 weeks ago and he travelled over from Ireland last night. I was due to meet the transport this morning at Ockham Common this morning... Arrived to find the driver of the transport tussling with him on the ground. Despite being warned that Tarka was scared of men, the driver unfortunately decided to take him out of the van for a walk-round and as he opened the crate door, Tarka bolted. I arrived just as the driver was forced to let him go because the poor scared-witless boy was terrified at being grabbed (no collar...)and was biting the driver's hands. He then ducked under the van and emerged the other side, just as I was pulling up, then ran off into the woods - clearly traumatised. We've spent all day walking/getting the word out. A massive thank you to everyone who has helped today - particularly Paula who was absolutely brilliant; local police (who even despatched a WPC to walk the common), DogLost and Stacey from Lab Rescue. I gave up about 8pm - was dark and no sign of him. Left some food by the tree in the car park where he went missing. He has not eaten since about 1pm yesterday and I'm hoping that if not tonight that the smell of bacon from the cafe in the morning will lure him back if he's anywhere close. Calls tonight from local people offering to help in the morning (thank you Lisa); RHS Wisley gamekeepers now alerted; and Tarka is being widely tweeted/crossposted thanks to lovely Beverley, editor of DogsToday (see her blog coldwetnose) and the Labrador Forums (thank you!). DogsLost, am emailing you another pic that would be better for the poster. Tarka was picked up as a stray in Ireland after he followed a woman home - ravenously hungry, we think after having become separated from his owner who we think was a hunter (Tarka is a working-type lab). He was limping - which turned out to be due to two broken toes. Unfortunately, the bandage/split came off in the tussle this morning. (I have it if anyone knows any tracker dogs that might be able to track him from this). We hear he is scared of traffic so fingers crossed he has run away from the A3/M25. Saza - yes, you have the location exactly right - carpark/transport cafe ("Ockham Bites") in woods just past the first laybay as you head south down the A3 from J10 of the M25. We need to bring this boy back to us. He's already been through too much. He was very nearly PTS two weeks ago when, terrified, he went for (but didn't bite) the warden at the dog pound. But we didn't believe that this dog was really aggressive, just scared - confirmed when we discovered he is ovely with women. He has been in a foster in Ireland for the past week where he has been absolutely fine, including with the husband. But please, if any sightings, just call, don't try to catch him and we'll get an experienced handler there asap. Fingers crossed for a happy outcome. Jemima, Black Retriever X Rescue
