So very happy for you and Hamish.
Goldenfrodo
I am so very pleased to see this little dog is back home where he belongs.
Stay safe and warm now Hamish xx
Lassie
What can I say Heather absolutely fantastic dog your lovely pet is home . The whole thing is a bit sus but I guess you are tired with all the searching and anxiety just glad to have him home.
I think I would be checking out grooming parlours has Hamish been at one? 30 years ago my sisters Old english was found as the theif took Muffin to a parlour where the groomer recognised him. Its a pity you did not get photos of the handover on mobile. How awful people people can be you said he already had another dog, he does not deserve a pet if he can rob a family of their pet. But hey the best news is HAMISH IS HOME FOR CHRISTMAS come all you other lost doggies out there we want you all home safely too xxxxx Pat and Murphy

welcome home hamish!
Heather
We are over the moon to have Hamish back, our house feels like a home again. He's looking scrawny due to the haircut but otherwise he's ok. I can't peice it all together, it's all very weird but just happy he's home. Thanks to everyone on this site. The support I've received during this time has been invaluable and really helped us. Now to let everyone know and to tear down the posters!!!!

Hamish has been been found. After the ad in the paper, a man called to say he thought he had the dog.He said he would meet Heather to see if it was Hamish that he had. It was. It is a pity this man did not report the fact that he had found Hamish to the police when he found him - it is THEFT ! Hamish had been taken to the groomers for a haircut too,by the finder, so he will be feeling the cold now with all the snow.So glad he has been found though and is home and safe with his family.Last edited: 2010-11-28 15:12:44 by Sable - Regional Co-ordinator - Scotland

Heather can you put another advert in, much the same as before but asking for this Lady to phone again, your instinct is she was genuine, so maybe she will get in touch again. If you contact the Evening News Monday morning the advert could appear again from Tuesday.
Heather
Been round the area today and my husband spoke to a lot of local dog walkers who regularly use the paths. They've never seen Hamish. Most knew about him due to the posters etc but hadn't actually seen him. This makes me think the woman that phoned has maybe had him for longer than she is letting on because if he'd been wandering about there for so long surely someone somewhere would have seen him? I just don't know what to do now. If that was a prank call, and I'm still not sure it was, then I'd rather know - then we could focus our energy elsewhere. I have left message with local newspaper to see about possibly getting a piece in. She obviously read the Evening News as that's where she seen the advert so more information might be enough to spur her into action. Going to head up again before it gets dark and see if we can spot them out on their evening walk.
Heather
I'm going to head into the area this morning and speak to local dog walkers and put loads of posters up. I feel awful. I don't know if he's safe with this woman or is he wandering about out there after all this time? It's snowy here and freezing cold.

I can barely belive that someone would be so cruel, but up until late last night, Heather has had no further contact from the woman who said she had Hamish. Someone knows where he is and they need to hand him into police if not to the owner.

Did you get no joy from calling the vets for information Heather?Try calling in at local shops and asking for the woman by name.If she is genuine, she will call you again.Last edited: 2010-11-26 16:42:24 by Sable - Regional Co-ordinator - Scotland
Heather
Still no news, at a loss just now becuase I don't know where this woman lives and her number was witheld. Pretty sure it was genuine though. I will go out round the area again later on once my husband is home. Reading road signs and driving at the same time isn't much good!

I've had one prank call as well - not so useful!

Wishing you all the luck in the world in finding Hamish. I wish I was nearer to help.

Just spoke with Heather still no news but hopefully things are getting warmer and she will be reunited soon. It was a good advert last night I am convinced there wil be a response. With regards the central police switchboard . It aint working. I tried to get onfo on the 2 ladies who handed Murphy in at Dalkeith only to be told he was found in Dunbar. when i contacted the lady from Dunbar it was a different dog she handed in. Only proves that each day you have to check kennels and police. Somehow communication does not get through. Heather we are all with you Hamish and to be home soon xxx Pat

Heather has had a call from a lady to say she has him and is going to the address now to get him. When I spoke to her, she had been unable to find the address, but was on a mission. Hope to hear the good news for sure SOON !

In which direction was the car going or pointed in?

Great there has been a response to the paper, with a sighting of Hamish, and there may be more yet if it is in until Saturday. Will give you a ring this morning.
Heather
interestin bit of news received via a phone call on the back of the newspaper. the man phoned to say at around half 3 on friday, just after Hamish went missing, he was coming into wallyford of the a1 passing the old dump entrance at the new race track. he seen a car parked and a man with one dog on a lead. Hamish was running bout on the path and it was like this man was tryin to catch him. another car stopped and they got Hamish. i'm guessing the man that got him was tryin to get him of the side of the road but where is he now? why not contact police? not sure what to do now! this spot is really less than a mile over the field from ours. going to go up tomorrow. there are men working up there who might help and will flood area with pics. at least we know he's not been out in the cold for seven nights but worried why this man hasn't handed him in?
Heather
I'm getting really confused with the police. No matter what station I phone it rings through to a central switchboard for Lothian and Borders Police where they just tell me that they've got the details and will phone me if anything comes in. It doesn't feel like enough!

Heather contact all police stations futher afield as they do not co-ordinate and if Hamish has been taken out of the area he could have been registered as found somewhere else, and as he has no ID on him, nobody will know where he came from.
Heather
I really hope so too. My son is only 5 and is carrying a photo of Hamish about with him as he misses him so much. Just done the school run and so many people know about him and keep asking. People are so nice. No matter what happens now this site and the people I've spoken to over the last few days concering this have totally restored my faith in human kindness.

Really hpoing that some news comes in from the newspaper.

Hi there, I'm passing word around the Loanhead area, fingers crossed you will have him back soon. Stay positive.
Heather
I'm convinced that sighting wasn't Hamish. I was at college at the time and mentioned I'd lost my dog to my tutor. She said she'd seen a dog at the same place this morning. I showed her Hamish's picture and she said it wasn't him,, when she described the dog she'd seen it was more like the one that is at the kennels.

Very prominent advert in the Edinburgh Evening News - fingers crossed for you that it brings some news on Hamish. Should you also look at advertising in the East Lothian Courier, Musselburgh News?Last edited: 2010-11-25 12:30:19 by Leona*

sorry double posted by accident. It's good to see the posters are working so fingers crossed!Last edited: 2010-11-25 11:36:34 by Heather
Heather
Possible sighting but I'm not sure. I got a phonecall from a vets in Dalkeith to say someone who had seen the poster phoned them to say they had seen a 'brown westie' out on it's own. I drove to the area and couldn't see anything so popped into Dalkeith Police Station to ask. They told me it had been taken to the kennels in Rosewell so drove up there. It wasn't Hamish. The dog they had might be some kind of Cairn cross but was very golden and didn't look like a 'brown westie' so I'm not sure if the woman that phoned the vets has spotted Hamish or this other dog that was handed in.

we are in edinburgh but go to classes in tranent. if i can do anything just let me know
Lassie
If there is anything I can do I will print off poster and put it in local vet also a branch ion Musselburgh. Linda had advised me to contact kennels every day. I am going ro candicassa kennels at Rosewell with thank you gifts for Murphy`s safe return.today so will leave a poster there too.
Dont rely on cat and dog home and kennels remembering your dog is lost a lot come through their way. Murphy was logged with Police yet they did not tie the incident number up from him being stolen the previous week. What im trying to say is keep in contact everyday. I know its exhausting and worrying when you are upset. Black Diamond were amazing as was the local advertiser. If I can help you with anything phone me I am only 15 mns away from you.
