- So sorry to read this again but I agree with kimmybear, Violet is still around you (in spirit). It will make her unhappy if you are sad, and you will see her again one day. Please dont blame yourselves, these things happen, I know its easy to say and not so easy to do. But she knows you loved her and still do. Violet is now in Gods care. I will pray for you. God Bless

- It is only now that we can write something without crying over Violet we still can't believe what has happened we were so near to having her home if that person hadn't let her out of the trap she would have been with us now we will never forgive him or her for that whoever it was spooked her over the railway line so awful it is. Thank you everyone for helping us look for her from our Team Violet, DogLost, Woodgreen, ARAS to people just looking as they went shopping or walking their dogs also to everyone who sent us support messages who couldn't physically help us. Thank you to Angela, Nicole, Jane, Sandie and James who were with me on the Monday when I got the call from Andy about Violet and you all came with me to the Vets I couldn't have coped without you being with me. Also Thank you to Richard the railway man who found her and called Andy it could not have been easy to do that and put her little body in a bag as she had been killed and lying there for a week your a gem Richard. Thank you everyone you have all been so kind with your condolence messages we have been totally overwhelmed by your kindness. There are some that I won't forgive such as Bedford Dog Warden who did not want to know, and the person who gave us fake sightings and a fake photo of Vi. Team Violet are sticking together to help find other dogs that are lost in our area. Also we have always been known as Violet's fosterers we were in fact going to keep her if we had got her back her forever home would have been with us so so sad all this is. Take care and please don't cry anymore she is having a lovely time over the Rainbow Bridge playing with Gizmo and all the other animals there. Take care Jeanette and Andy x x

- Thanks Angus. I actually went there for a look round last August and very nearly applied for another little dog, but unfortunately it wasn't quite the right time. I often wonder if she got a lovely new forever home. When I go later this year Violet's bench will be my first port of call.Last edited: 2011-03-29 13:32:47 by Tigermouse

- Hi Tigermouse - yes you are correct this the the Godmanchester Shelter nr Huntingdon - the new surgery unit will not be finished until the end of the year but the bench should be in place within 3 weeks - The Water Garden is open for walking and your well behaved dogs are very welcome there too Last edited: 2011-03-29 11:52:08 by Angus

- I assume this is the Wood Green shelter at Godmanchester? If so, then I will look forward to seeing Violet's legacy while I'm staying in Huntingdon later in the year.

- Looking forward to going to see Violets legacy. Well done everyone- an absolutely fantastic token of our feelings for this beautiful girl, gone far too soon xxx

- I had a call from Wood Green Animal Center this morning - see below for Violets Legacy to Wood Green
We are delighted to announce our plans for a memorial to Violet thanks to your generous donations; the money will pay for a kennel in the dog isolation area of our brand new surgery unit currently being built, and the kennel will be named in her memory. We will also be putting a memorial bench in our Water Garden in the next few weeks - we will let you know once it's done. Thank you all so much again.
Thank you once again xxx - 2011-03-28 10:22 Unknown
- So sorry to hear this...run free Violet until you all meet again at the Bridge xx

- I agree with Sandie, and when I saw Eva was back safe my first thoughts were that Violet has had a helping paw in this from the bridge. Debs x
- 2011-03-25 20:56 Angus
- Wonderful contributions by everyone who has followed Violets thread here and on facebook, still now I cannot believe that she has gone, the team believe that she had a hand in getting Eva home, how I wish that we could bring them all home - sadly despite everything we did, Violet eluded us but she has cemented some amazing friendships which will continue to flourish in her honour.

- Great idea to sponsor a kennel. You've got it.
Anyone who reads Violet's story will feel so sad, but encouraged by how many good people are out there. RIP Violet xxx - 2011-03-25 18:05 Pumpkin
- We need £20 more to reach our target in order for us to sponsor a kennel in Violets name as her legacy to help all other dogs in her situation.
If anyone can spare any change, it would be great to reach that final goal and get things in order for her.
Much appreciated all

- Violet's legacy has now reached £645 pus the gift aid - she has touched the hearts of people from as far away as the USA and Australia who have left messages and made donations - we are blown away how many people's lives have been touched by this very special Lady. The retail park seemed serene yesterday and wild violets were found growing near where we parked every day for the search, we have taken some comfort from these little things. xx

- I am so upset. I hate the railways and the trains. My beloved Cassie went this way and all I can say is, I do not know the reasons why, but I have to trust there is a reason, otherwise I couldn't go on. We may never know the reason, here on earth, but maybe one day when we all meet in heaven we will understand. Voilet you are loved precious, by SO many and your foster family became your own, forever sweetie. God bless you all. - Hi All. Sandie has set up a 'just giving' page for people to donate to sponsoring a kennel in Violet's name at Wood Green, a lovely thought and fitting gesture.
Every little penny will help (and please claim gift aid tax relief) and we can at then let her help other dogs in her situation at Wood Green.

Please can we try to do something positive in Violets memory - consider working as a fosterer, consider homing a rescue dog or make a donation to a rescue organisation of your choice today - I have, I think it's the best way to honour Violet and those who loved her, thinking of you all.xxx

- Like Angus i haven't posted before because i haven't known quite what to say. Violet became like one of my own dogs and like Angus the tears haven't stopped flowing since i got the call this morning to say Violet had been found.
I'd also like to thank everyone for their help and support, Its been a very difficult four months and i truly believed we would get Violet safely home to Andy, Jeanette and Max after she had survived the hardest winter possible, we got so close, i just wish we had got to show her the love she so deserved.
There's a special place called Rainbow Bridge,
Where Violet's gone to stay.
Forever Young and Free, No Fear or Pain,
A happy place for her to play.
Sweet Violet you will be truly missed,
By those whose hearts you touched.
We wished we had the chance to show
How very much you were loved.

- 2011-03-21 20:34 Angus
- I have struggled to write an update for Violets page, the tears have not stopped flowing since lunchtime when ESSJ called hardly able to speak & my response was stunned.
Violets search has been so intense, her owners Andy & Jeanette have never once missed a visit and even through the snow when cars were not an option they walked through foot high snow to lay food , the people who have joined us now known as Team Violet, who I cannot thank enough, have been selfless with their time and support and have gone to the ends of the earth for Violet, a very special lady.
We are all devastated that we were not able to bring her home to enjoy the love that she would have had with them as owners.
Violets body was found very close to the back of the retail park, we at Doglost would like to say a special thank you to the Railway worker who spotted her body and walked back along the line to where a poster was and made that call ~ not an easy call to make, but we will be eternally greatful for that call, with his help her body was recovered and taken for a private cremation.
She will be forever with Andy & Jeanette and imprinted in the hearts of everyone involved in her search and everyone who has followed her thread, she has touched so many lives.
God Bless Violet – Run Free at the Bridge
Sandie xx

- Guys, such a sad sad day, but Violet has had a dignified send off with us all there today, hopefully she will feel the love that we were all sending her. The hard work and dedication by every one of you is simply over-whelming and I have so much admiration for everyone involved.
She will shortly be getting on the plane to meet the gang - Angus, Rosie and Merline are waiting for her. She can now relax, stop running and have a good sleep. Love to you all xxx

- When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... - 2011-03-21 18:53 yipsey

----------------------------------------------------
Please don't mourn for me I'm still here,
though you don't see I'm right by your
side each night and day
And within your heart I long to stay
My body is gone but I'm always near
I'm everything you feel, see or hear
My spirit is free, but I'll never depart
As long as you keep me alive in your heart
I'll never wander out of your sight
I'm the brightest star on a summer night
I'll never be beyond your reach
I'm the warm moist sand when you're at the beach
I'm the colorful leaves when fall comes around
And the pure white snow that blankets the ground
I'm the beautiful flowers of which you're so fond
The clear cool water in a quiet pond
I'm the first bright blossom you'll see in spring
The first warm raindrop that April will bring
I'm the first ray of light when the sun starts to shine
And you'll see that the face in the moon is mine
When you start thinking there's no one to love you
You can talk to me through the Lord above you
I'll whisper my answer through the leaves on the trees
And you'll feel my presence in the soft summer breeze
I'm the hot salty tears that flow when you weep
And the beautiful dreams that come while you sleep
I'm the smile you see on a baby's face
Just look for me, I'm everyplace...

She is no longer alone and can now play happily at Rainbow Bridge with the dogs in Doggie Heaven. My thoughts are with her owners and all the people who helped in her search. Bless you Violet ..... you will be missed. Julie xLast edited: 2011-03-21 17:20:59 by Julie B

- Sorry about delay in posting...so many dogs missing today...I took a call from BC informing me of the sad news and switched to rainbow bridge....Everyone on team Violet has done a remarkable effort ..sadly without the result we wanted...but you all tried so hard...I really thought we would have a happy ending on Violet with all your input...sadly this is not the case. Violet we tried so hard and nobody out there feel bad...we missed this one...their are others...so please dont leave doglost...85% of dogs in the same situation get back with help. Violet in your memory and the helpers supporting you we will try to make sure this does not happen to another dog in your area...or anywhere...run free!

- 2011-03-15 11:20 Angus
- sadly I don't think so Jayne - the trap has an A4 sized notice on the sliding door of the trap with all details about the trap its hoped for contents and 2 contact numbers for release of any other animals - we can only think that someone does not agree with us trying to trap her or the possibility that the person who has released its contents possibly cannot read (which is far more common than we realise )Last edited: 2011-03-15 11:21:34 by Angus

- Do you think the sabotuers mistakenly believe you are trying to catch foxes? Is it worth leaving a note tied to the cage addressed to who ever is hankering our efforts read this... and explain its for a missing dog?....with a link to the website?

- I am so pleased there is still news on Violet. Thank you. I am just so sorry about the trap. You are doing so well, it has to be soon! x
- 2011-03-14 08:43 DebsAndGreg
- Firstly, keep up the good work team Violet, I am sure it will all pay of in the end. Secondly as for the low life interfering with traps and making crank calls, why cant they go and get a life and leave well alone. Stay safe Violet x

- This is so heartbreaking to think she is so near and yet so far. Mindless creatures who sabotage traps need horsewhipping. I would like to make one suggestion if I may and that is, dogs are inquisitive, many a dog has been caught by a person lying down and whimpering. Dogs often approach to investigate. If she is passing so close to helpers it may be worth a try. Just have some food in your hand and a slip lead over your arm. I wish you all the luck in world and hope dear little Violet is caught and home soon. She sure is a tough little cookie, bless her...
- 2011-03-14 00:51 Karenn
- Can not believe that. I really hope that silly person keeps their nose out of it.
My fingers are crossed tho to ensure this does not happen again. xxxxx - 2011-03-13 22:32 Unknown
- Why can't people just get lost and stop sticking their noses in when it is not wanted. Hope she is ok and is caught soon. Liz xx
- 2011-03-13 22:28 coralvb
- Is it possible who ever released her from the trap has taken her home with them? That could explain why there has been no further sighting.
- 2011-03-13 21:28 Suziewoo
- So sorry to hear about all your problems. I have been following her story for months now and had really hoped she would be home safe by now. Please carry on with your excellent work and everything crossed that it will pay off very soon. You all must be exhausted but there are so many good people out there willing you to have the strength to carry on. xx

- It must seem like an incredibly long haul - and then to have someone deliberately try and make it even more difficult must be awful. You are doing a brilliant job with so much dedication and I am sure that there are many people who regularly visit DogLost to catch up with how the long term ones are doing. We may be too far away to help physically but we are with you in spirit. My wish is that you are reunited with Violet soon.

- 2011-03-13 19:26 Ovelica
- We're still out there looking for Violet day and night, every hour we have. Unfortunately we have been in stealth mode for a few weeks due to crank calls and trap sabotage. We have had many sightings at all times of the day with good solid descriptions in the past three weeks, especially in the Kempston area. We have been getting really close to her, when someone again has sabotaged a trap that was being visited frequently and we believe she may have gone in and triggered it and been released! This will have spooked her and since then we have had no sightings of her at all. So we need everyone who reads this to please keep looking out for her and let us know that she is still around by calling if you see her. Again we thank everyone who has helped and continues to help.

- Went along today, after a long walk. We only found a piece of cabbage not far away from the trap which was nearest to the retail park - so perhaps she had been eating it, their was also a clump of hair near it however it did look more like a German shepherd.
It was great she was sighted last night. I have sent you an e-mail Andy.
My fingers are crossed that she is soon home! xx - 2011-02-13 16:25 Deb4gsd

- We had a good night looking for Violet last night. With confirmed sightings. It started at0:300rs this morning when we spottted her in the fields between ELstow and Shortstown. We caught her in a bright floodlight torch and was able to light her up and view her through binoculars at the same time so we knew it was defiantely her eyes we were picking up. We watched her going backwards and forwards near a hedge for about 20 minutes in the distance, then she managed to escape our torches and we saw her dissappear into the distance towards the retail park direction. We forewarned others out with us that she was heading in their direction and we headed over to the retail park. At approx 4:15hrs this morning she was spotted plodding along the old dissused A421 that runs by the side of the retail park, again positively identified as a black and white collie. We walked this area and watched for a while then popped around the back of the retail outlets and our helpers had just lost sight of her literally seconds before we got there! They had watched her sit in the roadway behind the retail park , then she walked up near their vehicle and went behind it and then headed off over towardss the back of Toys R Us. This was the best sighting of the night and definately her. At least we know she is definatley around and better still, she followed almost to the second the exact same pattern as the last time we did this stake out a few weekends ago. A very big thankyou to all who gave up their sleep for the night and had the patience to keep a look out and also for not trying to grab at her when so near. We really do appreciate everyones help and this has given us a bit of a boost to definately see her ourselves and for her to be seen so clearly. We will be looking for more clues later today with others who are coming over to walk the area. Thanks again Andy & Jeanette

- The big search is on again this weekend - Andy is looking for volunteers to sit in cars and observe through the night at selected points along Violets known routes
Everyone will be in pairs for safety and if anyone can help please call or text Andy on 07824 696 694 email andy@geodenetworks.com or join our facebook event http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=197427526936880 - 2011-02-09 08:38 BorderCollies
- When I tried to call Martin it took me a while before I got through to him, but he is really knowledgeable and I wouldn't give up calling him. Just keep calling :)
He is very good and takes an interest in all the dogs. Well worth the call. Good luck for the weekend, wish I could come and help :) - 2011-02-08 19:59 Ovelica

- Hi Jeanette/Andy
when Larraine read your message she read it as saturday night and sunday night. I see other people read it the same way
I read it as Saturday night through to Sunday morning. can you confirm?
I can do Sat night :)

- Just going over the thread and some people have mentioned Martin Soar. One of team Violet did call him 3 times and left messages but he didn't botherto return her call. Never mind their must be other dog trappers in this country he can't be the only one. Oh and someone has asked about Woodgreen they can send their staff to help us search if we ask and they have done but the problem is then there is less staff to look after their dogs at the shelter which isn't fair on the dogs and they need just as much love as Violet does. Jeanette x x

- We need to get some definite sightings of Violet. We have had reports of seeing her eyes at night reflecting in torches, we have heard her bark at 4:40am in the morning, but we have not physically seen her to positively identify that she is still around. As all of these sightings may not be her but another dog or animal. The very last physical sighting was Christmas night where she could be positively identified.
We had a good effort from everyone that gave up their time a couple of weeks ago over the weekend where we were able to gather some clues. We have finally caught something in one of the traps, albeit a small cat. Dog fur thought to be hers is more likely a white German Shepherd I have seen the owner grooming it in the area as many dog owners appear to do around here. Some of the fur is undoubtedly Violets but not all of it by a long way.
We believe she is still around though become completely nocturnal and hence our next plea for help. We need to try and observe the areas we believe she travels through the night and need volunteers who would be willing to sit in their cars and watch to see if, where and when she comes through, and record the time and details etc. We need to work out where to put another trap to try and bring her home. If pictures can be taken of her also that would help if seen anywhere during the day. We have identified a few locations between Shortstown, Elstow and Kempston Retail Park that we need to try and cover between the hours of 22:00hrs and 08:00hrs next Saturday Sunday night. If there are any volunteers we would appreciate any help you can give us, followed by a breakfast in MacDonalds, (sorry can think of nowhere else in a Sunday morning) on the house so to speak. Also would like volunteers who can walk the areas during the day for more clues on the Sunday in an effort to try and get some sightings of her.
If you can help can you let me know by calling 07824 696694, if I do not answer please leave a message with your name and number and I will call you back
We really appreciate the time of those who have given up hours to help so far and thank you in anticipation of any help anyone can give in the future.
Many thanks
Andy

Kempston Retail Park (front and rear of shops), Elstow, Medbury Lane (fields in Elstow) Abbeyfields, Cardington, Shortstown, Kempston, Woburn Industrial Park, Cotton End, Wilstead. Please if you are just shopping or taking you dogs for a walk or out with your children please just look around you just may see her. We need to find her as a matter of urgency now. - this morning we swapped the trap for one with a different trigger mechanism - we now know it it works as it has captured its first victim - a young cat tempted by the smoked salmon - sadly not what owners where hoping for as they approached the sprung trap - lets see what tomorrow brings x

- It must be so frustrating to be so near, yet so far from catching her. It has to happen - laws of logic (or whatever) mean that eventually you will get her. Perserverance is the difference between winning and losing and your are persevering so you will WIN! Violet will be home soon - you are so close. You have all done so well. She is a much loved dog and hasn't even got her permanent home yet! I'm sure she will have after all this! :-) Love to you all and sweet little Violet. Kim x

- Such a shame no sightings of Violet, but if clues have been picked up along the way then that will no doubt help in the search for her. Must chuckle at sight of Angus upto her knees in mud, sorry Pumpkin I don't know you but 2 ladies in the mud does bring a smile to my face. Like Lizzy, too far away to be of practical help but good luck Team Violet for tomorrow's search.

- Massive thanks to everyone who came out today to search areas - Sadly Violet did not give us that all important sighting but a number of clues of possible routes of travel were discovered and photographed and brought back to owners for comparison, these included hair found in fences and lots of analysis of dog poo :-).
Posters up in new areas and a number of possible derilect buildings highlighted which will be checked tomorrow.
Personally our walk was interesting through the fields parallel with the A421 trunk road and the sight of my legs disappearing up to my knees in what can only be described as quick sand like mud caused much laughter, even funnier when Pumpkin followed me in ! 2 women in the middle of a field stuck up to our knees in mud and not a single sole around to rescue us - we made it back laughing our heads off and thinking that Violet was probably sitting in the hedge having a giggle at our antics.
Good luck to everyone who is out tomorrow

- Following a review of recent developments we need to cover about a 2 mile square radius of land simutaneously to confirm her whereabouts after many recent sightings between Kempston Retail Park and Shortstown. We need people in pairs to either walk the area or watch from paticular static locations. We want to do this over this coming weekend during daylight hours from 1pm Saturday and continuing Sunday during daylight hours. Some of us will also watch through the night at a couple of specific locations. If anyone can spare some time it would be gratefully received. If you know of others who are prepared to come down all welcome. We should meet behind the main shops (Boots, Argos etc) at the retail park. Please note that most areas are marshy or under water so if prepared to walk you will need wellies or suitable footwear. Dogs are welcome obviously clear up behind them please. Thank you in advance if you can help. Please email andy@geodenetworks.com that you are coming with your name and email address and we can email you maps etc, or text one of the mobiles on the poster that you are coming with your name and email address and we can send you maps etc.

- Hi, Many years ago Abbey my young w.s.d ,same colour as Violet, escaped from my car after I was involved in a serious car accident. She was on the run for a month an eventually the only way the RSPCA could catch her was to feed her doped meat ! She was caught the day I woke up from 4 weeks in a coma. She then suprised us with 7 puppies concieved while she was on the run! Good luck in your search and heres hoping you find Violet soon.

- We have spent this evening having a team meeting and throwing a few new ideas into the melting pot - all the recent sightings have been plotted and a new larger triangle has emerged. We will be walking the new areas over the weekend postering with still missing posters and handing out flyers, there are a number of areas that need investigation and if possible we would like to organise some pairs of helpers to cover some of these areas. Anyone who can help over the coming weekend can you please text 07824696694 and let Andy know when you would be available to help. - Massive thanks to everyone who came to the meeting tonight and I think that some good ideas and points were covered and some fresh incentive for the weekend.

- Violet has been spotted recently - a call to owners of a sighting SATURDAY evening in the big layby just off the A421 - She was given sausages from some truck drivers but backed off when they tried to get closer, she stayed to eat the food - described as bedraggled - owners and team Violet are meeting tonight to investigate this latest sighting ..

- A421 between Millbrook and Amazon, I travel this road quite a lot and have seen the pair of deer mentioned many times, they are definitely both deer, either Muntjac or Chinese Water Deer, usually feeding in the wide open fields near the road, not a thing a dog would do. I fear this is a false alarm. I'll keep my eyes open when visiting the retail park and surrounding area, and will post any sitings. I hope Violet is found very soon.

- Pumpkin and I met up this morning and spent about 4 hours walking the area quietly with my gentle boy dog - the area was very quiet and we explored a couple of areas that we had not dared to do when we where on our own and then walked the lenght of the old road (A421) - we discovered one or 2 clues and some paw prints in the fresh mud - don't think that it a place that people would walk their dogs so may help in locating some movements - Pumpkin will update owner with all the details later - we just need another sighting to see if she has stayed in the area
- 2011-01-02 11:18 Runfold Eddie
- Yes, down the "old" road over the crossing.
- 2011-01-01 23:25 Angus
- Thanks Eddie - all suggestions welcome especially from border collie savvy people - their independence & intelligence is hard to work around especially as she has a food source in the local mcdonalds and the kfc. :-))
Is your friends business near the amazon distribution warehouse ?
- 2011-01-01 22:04 BorderCollies
- Thanks for your posting on Eva's thread, Ovelica. I am watching Violet's story closely and really hope every day that she made a move to come back to you. I know it is a waiting game and very soul destroying. I was shocked when I read about the vandalism and really hope that it didn't drive Violet away. Let's hope she does realise that you are a steady reliable rock in her life now and will make her come forward. All fingers and paws crossed here and I think you and your "team" are doing an amazing job!

- Phew, I'll shut up then and watch from Devon, wishing I was there helping. BCs are my breed and that's my area. Good luck.
- 2011-01-01 19:22 Angus
- Eddie - all thoughts and ideas are welcome but just to confirm - there is a lot going on which is not documented - a new battle plan has been drawn up by owners and the on the ground team at a meeting yesterday - owners have a diary of sightings and food is only now being left at one point - the big set back was the vandalism on Christmas Eve, rest assured that this is being monitored very closely but we are having to be careful not to have her running as she is safe on a piece of land which is sandwiched between the main east - west dual carriage way and 2 railway lines - I think that this is going to be a long drawn out process and patience in regaining her trust is the key which her owners are committed to doing.
- 2011-01-01 19:07 Owl
- Eddie, I appreciate your concern but know that this search is being very well co-ordinated. Not everything which is being done gets posted on this page, and in view of the disturbance of the trap it may well be a good thing not to go public on some of the exact details. The MK team is very good and did brilliant work a year or two ago catching a cocker who was on the run for ages.Last edited: 2011-01-01 19:09:56 by Owl

- This is where I get shot down in flames. This needs a co-ordinated search. Is there ONE person organising? This person should plot what others do so hopefully the area is covered especially at times that a feral dog will be out and about and the times she's spotted logged by a central organiser. How helpful have Wood Green been? It is their dog after all. They have the financial resources after all. And Martin Soar? No news on that score?
- 2010-12-31 22:21 Angus
- i don't think that there have been any sightings since the trap was disturbed - possibly the sound of her collar tags chinking reported by owners - we could do with another confirmed sighting

- I read an article today on the BBC website about Angel, the dog that was on the run for 7 weeks and then caught by the Dogtrust. It says in the article that Angel didn't go into the dog trap so they used a specially designed net to catch her. I was wondering if that would work for Violet, as she seems to stay in the same are, but doesn't seem to take to the trap. The Dogtrust branch in question is the one in Newbury. Maybe worth considering. Is Violet still in the area of the Retail Park?

- Just wondered if there have been any sightings since the trap was disturbed?

- Wiccaweys who rescue the Irish Border Collies gave me the following advice for Violet so fingers crossed this might work for Eva too. Use a slip lead instead of her normal lead it might be easier to put around her neck or even a paw if you get close enough. Stay quiet when looking do not use a dog whistle unless she is used to it or in Violet's case even call her name (Violet does not know this name). Lying down and whimpering does not work. Bait trap with tinned cat food and leave some of it in the tin so that it is a challenge to get out or if you can bait the trap with fresh rabbit. Stay calm if you see her. If you have the time or can get some people to help you and you see her try to monitor times when you see her and the places she visits so you have an idea where she is sleeping so you can put the trap nearby. Try Be prepared to be bitten if she tries to get away when captured she may be so scared of it. The next bit was a bit blunt but here goes, some Collies like the open freedom so when she comes back be prepared that she may want to escape again. I have just posted this on Eva's page too so fingers crossed these two girlies will be in the warm soon x x

- A friend posted this article for me on Facebook, so I rang the Dogtrust today to see if they have any ideas, having been able to catch a dog being on the run for 7 weeks.

I will keep you posted what they think is best to do. They were very nice and helpful, maybe worth a call??? - 2010-12-29 21:44 khampton

- I have just spoken to Wiccaweys Border Collie Rescue a lot of their Border Collies are from Ireland but they do have backgrounds on all their dogs not like Wood Green who don't seem to have any background on their Irish rescue dogs. Anyway Wiccaweys have been very helpful and given us a lot of hints and advice so when Team Violet meet up again we can discuss things. THANK YOU WICCAWEYS X XLast edited: 2010-12-29 18:55:24 by Ovelica

- I am following Violet and Evas threads not sure if this will help but I tried everything I could think off to catch a feral kitten once (god bless herI had her for 18yrs) and guess what she fell for PILCHARDS they do have a very strong smell heres hoping and praying they are both home very soon.
Stay safe darling Violet xxxx - 2010-12-29 09:43 BorderCollies
- Thanks for posting on Eva's thread. I am following Violet's story and I think you are all doing a great job. I have no suggestions for you, sorry, as I think with these clever BCs it is a game of time and patience. I was recommended to join an Irish Dogforum, as they seem very experience there with catching stray and feral dogs. I will dig out the link and post it here. It is heartbreaking to see them out there and not being able to coax them back.
You are doing great! Keep up the good work. - 2010-12-29 01:31 Runfold Eddie

- We have used these before when looking for Lady last year http://www.doglost.co.uk/dog_blog.php?dogId=20673 .(a really expensive professional pair) To be honest they were pretty useless as if there is any amount of back/foreground light it is almost impossible to see anything through them. the cheaper ones usually one have a range of a few feet/metres so i would think would not be worth looking at to buy. They need total darkness to work properly :(Last edited: 2010-12-24 19:31:42 by ESSJ - Area Co-ordinator Rutland

- Can anyone borrow 'night vision' binoculars? The lead searcher can use these to 'find' Violet in the dark and perhaps gain a better idea of quite what she is doing when you are waiting for her to come out.
You may be able to see her bodily reactions to noises you make (positive or otherwise) and get an idea of what she likes/dislikes about you being there.
If you cannot borrow any, you should be able to buy some from an outdoor orbarmy surplus store. Last edited: 2010-12-23 18:48:08 by DogtopiaPetServices - 2010-12-23 14:33 Pumpkin
- There will be Christmas dinner for the little one on the day, dont anyone worry. Team Violet are here, no matter what day of the year! :-)
I have just got back from the butchers who have given me a pretty huge bag of meaty bones FOC that we can use to tempt her. If we need any more, he said to just pop on by, so thats great news. - 2010-12-23 14:01 Angus

http://www.doglost.co.uk/dog_blog.php?dogId=26823 to be home for Christmas. Gizzy is home - come on Violet it's your turn now sweetie x - 2010-12-23 08:35 DebsAndGreg
- Heres hoping she will get a little bit braver and come home in time for christmas. Well done to the owners and team Violet for perserving in this bad weather.
Has a fish side been tried in the trap? if she likes that best it just might work.
- 2010-12-23 06:55 Angus
- so frustrating for owners - she seems to have moved a little back around the car park - foods have been laid in a different place and these have been taken along with a bone and a fish side which went quite quickly, the chink of her tags could be heard by owners last night but she was keeping just out of sight - but she appeared to be following them - I really feel for them they have been out every day in this awful weather - she is so close but still elusive.Last edited: 2010-12-23 06:56:18 by Angus

Could the bowl of food perhaps what has been suggested the tripe be placed near the trap, then each day edge near and nearer the door?
I have done a picture to demonstrate what I mean sort of thing?

- Wow, I've never seen so many "views" for a dog in all the time I've been on this wonderful site!! Too many posts to read so I don't know if this has already been tried or suggested, but what about the good old laying on your back and whimpering trick that has worked on so many other dogs in the past? Curiostity might just get the better of Violet...
- 2010-12-21 19:21 MichelleW
- it certainly does make things very tricky having not been able to make any recognise d 'fun activity' for her but maybe paddys idea of the other dog (Max?) playing might call on her natural herding instincts to chase and carry the ball? She would certainly see recognise him and see that youre not hurting him and hes enjoying it, just a gentle roll the ball to him and quiet entertainment rather than full length lob.
Urrghh, wracking my brains and running round in circles on your behalf here.
Anyway, keep on doing what youre doing, she obviously knows youre around and hasnt been spooked by you so any appearance and comfort she picks up from you will no doubt gradually build up the confidence you need her to have. xx - 2010-12-21 17:08 Ovelica
- Thank you for the tripe suggestion sorry Danielle for not answering your text yesterday about it. We will give that a go next sounds yukky but to her hopefully it will smell fabulous and get her in the trap. Any other suggestions will gratefully be received by us and Team Violet. Thank you very much. x x

hope violet is back for christmas xx

- Ive been following Violets story for a while now and trying to wrack my brains, have you tried putting /hiding the trap closer to the KFC place, or where she is getting her food supplies from ?
Good luck Team Violet - 2010-12-21 06:59 Unknown

- Thanks Jumanji for your good advice here & may be worth owners trying - we do have a soft blanket on the floor of the trap and it is covered in blankets and a tarp and then the camoflauge blanket - if she goes in it will be really cosy for her - she is just getting enough food from the KFC to need to go in the trap which is so frustrating - she does seem to be staying close to the trap in her safe area - we just need that break - her story has so many followers and people willing her home - if only she knew how loved she will be she would be in like a shot. - Keep strong team Violet xx

- Oh come on Violet please go in the trap ! I have been following Violets story but not read every post and I dont know all the things you have tried in the trap but recently up here a dog living rough for over 3 weeks was caught after the trap was set with cooked chicken smothered in mashed up sardines. Now this dog was using conifers to sleep under so we put some of the dead conifer leaves on the floor of the trap so it seemed less alien for her to walk onto. Have you tried putting anything on the floor of the trap as dogs dont like to walk on the metal bars ? willing her to go in the trap xx

- One thing the snow is handy for is for. I do hope she is caught and home before xmas day. Poor lass not knowing what a toy is:( Well done though xxxx
- 2010-12-20 18:09 Ovelica
- Thank you for your advice MichelleW and Paddy. Sadly Violet does not know what a toy is or how to play with a ball or any commands such as sit and stay and she doesn't know her name. She originates from Ireland where she was picked up as a stray so no background on her at all. Woodgreen Animal Rescue bring them over here from the pound over in Ireland where they are assessed and rehomed here. Max our Collie was the same knew nothing and in the year we have had him has turned into a confident little boy who loves his toys and playing fetch a fantastic little dog. We are wanting to do the same with Violet when she comes home and turn her life around. Thank you so much everyone for your support and advice and ideas we really need this so much. We just want her home again x x
- 2010-12-20 17:58 Ovelica
- Great news. Miss Marple saw her a few seconds before we arrived in the same area. We saw a lot of fresh paw prints which we know are hers plus dog wee. we loadesd the trap again with KFC and poured chicken stock around and leading to the trap. We think she was chasing the two little deer that are in the wooded area. We took Max again who left his scent in the area hopefully all this will work. Fingers crossed again . Thank you for your help Team Violet and Miss Marple x x
- 2010-12-20 17:43 paddy
- that's a good idea...and even better, find another collie and play ball nearby with him. Same breed; opposite sex having fun would be ideal. Accidentally on purpose letting the ball go towards her sometimes. Not obviously trying to include her. There's nothing like 'excluding' a dog from a competitive game to get them wanting to get involved. Even if she doesn't respond it can only help build up her confidence and belief that people are OK and not so scary after all.
- 2010-12-20 15:09 MichelleW
- this topic has really touched me. I admire all your support and dedication to helping with Violet.
I was wondering, with her gaining confidence when her owners go forward....is it worth taking a ball along?
I have a very timid rescue border collie and she doesnt like new people or strange things at all, however, if she has a ball it appears to be some sort of safety comfort blanket for her and she will approach, nosing the ball to the person she trusts most.
Just roll very gently a few feet from yourself in Violets direction (when shes on a brave day) and see if shes prepared to nudge it back.
I know my bitch wouldnt entertain the idea of food and if i was in your position i would be going spare trying all sorts of anything.
All the very best to you and your valient efforts.
Be safe Violet and hurry up home! xx - 2010-12-20 13:37 Pumpkin

- after a quiet couple of days owners went back after the snow to find fresh Violet prints in the area of the trap - good to know that she is back in her safe place & hope that she is getting fed up of the cold - I have one wish only for christmas and that is to get this little one home x
- 2010-12-18 15:18 Pumpkin
- we spent over 2 hours on site today. walking miles and every nook and cranny, going through every bush to check access routes back to the 'safe area' are ok. Lots of brambles and very thick bushes everywhere to provide good dark dense cover.
Met a number of dog walkers on other side of rail line up towards Fire station who walk regularly that area every day who will certainly keep an eye out.
The more eyes open for this little lady the better.
The snow is falling very heavily now, and settling which i think will do one of two things - make her den down in some shelter to keep warm, or make her come out which happened the last time initially when it snowed. I think only time and perseverance will tell.
Posters up around back field and gates by removal company and gate to railway. Also passed to Fujfilm on the corner.
I have absolutely everything crossed this little lady starts to realise that 'Team Violet' are here to help her and get her back in the warm, where she belongs.
Fingers crossed all.... - 2010-12-18 07:05 PaulaK

Postered everywhere that could be postered - great work Danielle and Nikki! Posters also on gate before field which is vital position we think.
Fingers crossed she wants a nice hot dinner this evening..... - 2010-12-13 17:51 Unknown
- Naughty Violet. Please go and get into the trap now and eat that lovely food.

- SIGHTED. Approximately 4.20pm in same area. Sat watching helper Nikki, just sitting there. Fingers crossed tonights the night. She looked ok, not injured.

- Graham, I would try that with Buttons. Quite a lot of them can track other dogs, they just need to catch on to the idea. Your problem is likely to be that the trail will go back and forth and all round the houses, but it's worth a try.

- Hi Pumpkin i will be heading over to the retail park i finish work at 4pm so be there about half 5ish, if you want to meet me there i will gladly give you a helping hand to do flyers and have a look around again if you like.

- Hi Pumpkin, I can help tonite with postering or weds, let me know x
- 2010-12-13 15:18 Pumpkin
- The snow is two -fold in that whilst you can see pawprints, you dont always know what animal they are! I popped up last night saw two little deer running around which looked fairly content.
I think we need to continue to poster the back of the retail units - I have come across many a dog walker when round there, and also poster onto anything we can up the path past the gate. I have some posters in clear pockets in my car, if anyone is about to lend a hand this week? - 2010-12-13 14:32 Graham
- Spent an hour up there with Egg and Buttons, both spent a lot of time sniffing, and staring into the distance. no sightings though.
I had two thoughts, if it snows then tracking Violet may be easier, as long as we don't all go stamping everywhere
also buttons knows the command "go find it" - which usually applies to tennis balls. however if she sniffed some of violets bedding first, who knows what she would do. she isn't a tracker as such, but she is tenacious! - 2010-12-13 12:19 Pumpkin
- We appear to now have a good idea of the area she is staying in. Given the horrid weather forecast from Thursday onwards, all advice appreciated on how best we can 'step this up' so that she doesnt have to endure more freezing weather again...
- 2010-12-13 10:06 Angus
- food in the trap has been untouched again - Owners did see Violet trying to catch a rabbit earlier - she is still staying close but not hungry enough to go in the trap
- 2010-12-13 08:28 Pumpkin
- We dont believe the fluff / fur being found is that from Violet - some cat remains have been found in the area.
She appears to be poking her nose out every now and then, but not approaching as she was last week. Hoping for something to happen this week, as its going to get colder at the weekend :-( - 2010-12-13 08:22 BaileyP
- Watching this thread several times a day and hoping that she will be home safely soon. Well done to everyone out looking.

- I would think that very much depends on the individual dog, if they like other dogs or if they are scared of them. I hope Violet will be home soon :)
- 2010-12-12 15:07 Graham
- took Buttons and Egg today. met with Max and Ozzi. did lots of doggy playing, made lots of doggy noises and left lots of doggy smells. nicki saw her briefly darting, but that was it

- Just read this on the net about a page where trying to coax back dogs
My friend just caught a scared Border Collie by sending out her BC and they played after about 20 minutes she had both dogs.
Site is set well with some alterations today but all set in best way we believe. Niki will be walking her very calm BC in the area tomorrow, see if she will come or be interested in her 'own'. - 2010-12-11 11:10 Jayne - Founder Doglost.
- Update from a helper some fresh border collie type hair has been found leading up towards the station.

- This is so positive. She is showing interest in coming home. May I suggest that when you next see her, lay down and whimper, have some food in your hand, avoid eye contact. She will approach, let her feed from her hand and have a slip lead over your arm. Wishing you all the luck in the world that she is soon secure and home...

You are all doing a fantastic job here with her I wish you all the very Best of Luck. Stay Safe Violet Darling - 2010-12-10 09:53 Ros

- ANOTHER SIGHTING.
Received call that she was seen in the same area at 12.30am last night.
Please can we say its IMPERATIVE that people stay away for the next few days, as she is quite clearly showing her face now, which is a major development. - 2010-12-10 09:03 Angus
- Bumped due to last nights sightings
PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM REAR OF RETAIL PARK - THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT ONLY THE TRUSTED VOICES ARE IN THE AREA
If you wish to help with postering etc please contact owners to see next areas that need to be addressed.

- A more positive evening last night.
Violet was sighted on tuesday evening, 5.30pm in the same area.
My partner and I had a good sighting Wednesday evening at 9.30pm.
She was spotted last night at 7pm outside the back of Pets At Home by an open door. Delivery van scared her away They are going to try and coax her in if they can and leave door open as much as possible.
She showed her face to us last night whilst we were all stood talking quietly - did not appeared scared, more inquisitive but was clearly there and not alarmed. She then retreated back into the bushes. She then showed herself again another 3 times, all whilst we were in the vinicity so we are getting closer and gaining her trust.
May we ask that people stay away from the rear of the retail park for the next couple of days whilst we put a plan into action. We appear to be gaining her trust, and she appears to be comfortable and not scared of hearing the same voices.
We are getting closer.... And she looks well, not injured, but just scared I imagine. - 2010-12-09 18:10 Jo1985
- Angus - The only times Violet has barked have been in her kennel and people have passed by, only once she had been settled in there for a couple of weeks. It is a possibility it was her but I feel it unlikely. I think she only barked in the kennel cos she knew she has no where else to run to but would alway choose to run before being heard if possible. She never made a peep while at my house.
- 2010-12-09 13:38 PaulaK
- Watching this thread daily and have everything crossed that Violet gives herself up to you all soon. You are all doing a great job, keep it up and I hope it all pays off for you very soon x
- 2010-12-09 12:43 merline
- great sighting last night, she was moving very quickly so no sign of injury at all. Only a matter of time i think!
- 2010-12-09 12:05 Pumpkin
- Between us we postered and leafletted all houses directly behind Interchange and business at Woburn Road industrial estate. Very interesting just how close to the back of the park some of those houses and business were. Many comments that people will keep a look out for us, so that was a positive move. There are still other areas that would be good to get covered if anyone else is available to help.
Drove back to back of park at 9.30pm after finishing leafletting to see something running along right hand side of road. Closer inspection this was Violet for sure, with a dark topcoat and light undercoat. She was running at a good speed but not at a 'scared speed' initially. Followed her down to pathway near the pilon, at which point she picked up speed again. Headed to gate and took a sharp left.
Owners called, bbq on and area set.
With temperatures rising, this might be a good idea to really step up the game as she might not be hiding so much for warmth.
Any helpers to continue the leafleting and postering we started yesterday be great - just contact Andy and can arrange.
Fingers crossed all - 2010-12-09 11:36 Graham
- Hi Pumpkin, I am going to Woodgreen carol service tonight, and will be passing the interchange on the way back, so will have a look. Will have Egg in the car, but won't get him out.
Are there any plans on exploring the area behind the trees you showed us on the map, or that tunnel Andy mentioned? - 2010-12-09 06:57 Daisy

- I work on the industrial estate and as I was leaving work tonight heard a dog bark but didn't think anything of it because I thought Violet was still up by the retail park as I hadn't looked on here today. With her being shy I don't know if she barks or not though so may have not been her...?? I work at BTB which backs on to the bypass where all the work is taking place.
I was at the retail park last night and also wondered if anyone has spoken to the people in the house right by the railway bridge? They may be able to see her from their upstairs windows. - 2010-12-08 16:25 Angus
- Thanks for the message earlier Pumpkin - I have spoken with owners after their last text message - due to lack of sightings for a few days we need to get people back out postering and walking near the area - if we do not have people out then we cannot get sightings - it is a bit chicken and egg at the moment as Violet is so nervous of people we do not want to flood the area but we do need eyes on the ground, anyone walking the area should note not to raise their voice just to talk quietly and in happy tones - bit of laughter and to observe - report any sightings immediatly to owners and do not attempt to chase - just make a note of direction of travel and if possible how she appears to be moving .Last edited: 2010-12-08 16:26:29 by Angus

- Is anyone else available to help with postering and leaflet dropping over the next couple of nights? Any help very much appreciated and hopefully bring Violet home sooner
- 2010-12-08 12:05 Pumpkin
- Hi Danielle. Thats fab. Ill be out tonight doing some, have printed off some maps of the area which show the housing areas and industrial areas right adjacent to where we are located at the moment. I have also just run off 150 posters to put through these doors - the more awareness the better so I think we just put through each and every door, that will keep more peoples eyes open, which is definately what we need now.
Anyone else available to help leaflet/poster? I can do most nights this week, and available all Friday night to help out, and saturday day time.
- 2010-12-08 11:53 Danielle
- I can help with poster distributing on thurs evening if needed x
- 2010-12-08 09:03 Angus
- went out and had an early walk around again this morning - food once again has not been touched - had a quiet walk in the field beyond chatting to my self as I walked then checked the lenghts of the ditches and the read beds behind toys r us, sadly no sightings - couple of times I felt that something was around me but that may just be wishful thinking on my part - there have been no confirmed sightings since saturday night so it is possible that she has moved a little - with this in mind I feel that we need more posters in the area on the other side of the rail line - will alter the doglost poster to say nervous do not approach
- 2010-12-07 18:10 Angus
- I went over and spent an hour walking the area early this morning - it is so quiet you caould hear a pin drop - none of the food had been taken even by foxes - left some fresh food in the trap and more supplies are going back later tonight. If anyone can refresh the posters on the industrial estate to the oppostite side of the rail line that would be apprieciated. There was loads of waste cardboard lying about behind the stores so no problem in Violet finding somewhere warm to rest her head. Made a new hole in the stream so that she can get water.
- 2010-12-06 22:13 Angus
- no further sightings - food continues to be taken - owners are making regular quiet visits to try to draw her out - this is going to be one that tests the patience ..but owners are doing a great job x

- Hi Jo. Agreed, given there was a good sighting this evening near trap. Had been discussing with Angus about relocating perhaps only about 3 metres into a slightly more secluded area given quietness over last few days.. Given tonights sighting, think the weather has brought her out a bit more, so agreed.
- 2010-12-04 21:06 Jo1985
- Pumpkin - can I suggest that you leave the trap where it is. I have spent a lot of time with Vi and it takes her a long time to get used to things. Its really great that she is responding to all the smells etc you are putting out but I think moving the trap now she is getting so close to it will only upset her and set us back a long way x x

What we found with Annie the white lurcher was she went to ground during the day and was out at night keeping on the move to keep warm as the temp dropped at night.
Hope that helps. - 2010-12-03 10:53 Pumpkin
- Just been to area for a couple of hours. Food from last night not touched. Restocked trap and immediate area with hot ham, hot sausages and bacon and hot sausage rolls straight from the oven. Sprinkled a bottle of smelly sardine and beef stock in immediate area also. There is a McDonalds cheeseburger wrapped just by the stream which looks torn and we probably would have noticed last night so i think this is new. I put a few small pieces of liver cake there and made a hole in the stream so she would be able to drink - thanks for the tip Angus!
Few people passed me, i mentioned Violet to them who will keep a look out. Walked up and down 2 or 3 times quietly but nothing.
There were some animal prints on the frozen stream part so put some stock around that area which is very near trap.
A thought is if no luck by Sunday, to move the trap on the other side of the hedges by the open field, which I reckon is where she is keeping her den.
Its a bit warmer today and it was really calm around there with no wind, and looking at forecasts looks like no more snow imemdiately on the way and temperatures tomorrow may rise a bit so thats something.
I am not about this evening, but if need some help this afternoon Andy, just call. Im happy to go out again tomorrow morning with similar smelly stuff as today, I think it will be important to keep some form of routine, in order to establish a pattern?
Fingers crossed all xLast edited: 2010-12-03 16:13:01 by Pumpkin - 2010-12-03 09:51 BorderCollies

- Fingers crossed tonight will be lucky. Could there not be posters put up asking people not to walk dogs there until Violets caught? Most Dog owners would understand. Hopefully Violet will of had enough of her freedom & decide tonight she wants to return to foster owners & nice warm home.
- 2010-12-02 23:22 Pumpkin
- Tonights set up looks positive. 2 BBQs on the go with bacon, sausages, gammon etc, and lots of scented liquid put in the area. BBQs lit then we left the area. Andy popped back and saw move movement in the bushes so we left area immediately. Trap area looks ideal - trap very snug, warm and dry, with freshly cooked bacon to entice her in - if she goes all the way in, there are pilchards, liver cake and sausages as a reward. Area smelt highly of BBQ, trap all set, and the secluded area felt warm. Hopefully she will take to the area. Ill be back in the morning with hot sausages to check if anything has happened.
with regards to people staying away, we have set a pattern with regards to people and timings of feeding at trap etc. She is appearing to be braver each time when foster parents are alone there, so we set up the area and leave them to see if Violet will approach them. The last bbq we got very close, however this evening just as leaving two men with SIX dogs appeared and we think she must have been scared by all the commotion.
Fingers crossed she takes to everything this evening. - 2010-12-02 20:57 Astralhaze

- Suggestion from being in the area last night is to put up more posters round the back of the units. On several occasions I have spoken to staff members putting out empty boxes etc around the back who are unaware of Violet. Will get some more poster printed off today and put in plastic pockets. Perhaps whilst we let the bbq do 'its thing' this evening, we should be putting more posters up round the back on the big industrial bins etc. Danielle, shall we crack on with that later and leave A & J to try and coaxe Violet out?

- Good news on sighting last night. We did make the area particularly smelly, so maybe she has decided the time is right to investigate. Have forwarded tip re vaseline to owners, and we will get a big tub for later, along with bbq food, and beef stock bottles. Angus - Ill check with owners as i think they bought some bbqs yesterday, if not we will gladly take them off your hands if thats ok!
Danielle - ill speak to owners shortly and ask them to suggest time - to keep things regular, would suggest same time as previously. - 2010-12-02 09:52 Angus
- bumped due to sighting last night - keep doing what you are doing - all food in and around the trap - mainly in the trap though - as mentioned in Annies thread can someone grease the hinges with vaseline to stop them freezing in the snow as if she goes in we need it to trigger - I have 3 BBQ's in garage which Pumpkin can collect after work if needed .
- 2010-12-02 09:44 Jo1985

- Violet was spotted around lunchtime playing near the lake by the closed road - I met up with the owners about 4pm - we relocated the trap to a slightly quieter place and baited with the ham and the trusted sardines in tomato sauce - I checked the prints in the snow - they are def a dog and not a fox and appeared to be without human feet - owners caught sight of the tip of her tail earlier so she is hanging around - we had a chat about some signs to look out for and they will be placing more food later, fingers crossed xxLast edited: 2010-11-30 18:03:33 by Angus

Good luck for tonight - i'd bet any money she's watching us all from somewhere and waits till the night when all the public have gone before she shows herself.

- Good thinking Danielle. I can help with tonight, did you say you were available tomorrow evening? I might be stuck for helping then. Then at least we have both evenings covered? I have 2 huge tins of dog food, some chicken pieces off the deli counter and some tripe sticks for this evening as well as what foster parents are bringing - my car smells delightful....
- 2010-11-30 13:25 Danielle
- I was just thinking, when I worked at Woodgreen, if one of the dogs wasnt eating we could sometimes tempt them with mashed up sardines out a tin because they are so smelly, so was wondering if we should try this in the trap to entice her? x

Will reload trap with more smelly warming food and ensure trap still secure and waterproof.
Fingers crossed.
Re: the cold weather, i found this online - so thats something to say she might be coping ok - as ok as you can in this weather...
The Border Collie is a well-balanced, medium-sized dog with great intelligence and stamina. They are well known for being exceptional herding dogs.
Coat
Border collies have a weather-resistant double coat. Coats are either rough and long, or short and smooth. Colours include: black & white, red & white, black tri-colour, red tri-colour, sable, and blue merle - 2010-11-29 22:36 dawnie1972
- Ok let me know either way - i need to go out Thursday midday-ish but can pretty much make any other time. I'll check on here tomorrow before i go to interchange and if she's still roaming i'll have a look round. I have 3 rescue dogs myself the eldest of which came from Woodgreen.
- 2010-11-29 22:32 Pumpkin
- Great news Dawnie. They are what we used this evening, very easy and like you say, the right 'nose' level! Hopefully we wont need any more, but if we do, I can meet you at the Interchange on Friday as off work that day. Lets play it by ear perhaps?.
Whilst it would be nice to meet you - it would be great not to ... if you know what i mean! :0)
(I mean that in a sincere way!) - 2010-11-29 22:26 dawnie1972
- No probs at all - i've def got two spare but may have more just need to check how many i have in total - they're the foil tray ones but very very good and at least with those you could place them low down so that the smell travelled at her nose level. I'm going to Interchange tomorrow at some point so if someone wants to meet me there that's fine but i'm about most days until next Wednesday so can sort something out - fingers crossed they won't be needed tho!
- 2010-11-29 22:12 Pumpkin
- Dawnie, if another bbq is on the cards and you had a couple spare, they would be very handy. They are hard to come by in November/ December! :-(
- 2010-11-29 22:09 Pumpkin
- Well.. trying to do a bbq whilst its snowing is something i have never experienced! We had 3 bbqs on the go, with lots of sausages and bacon. Very strong wafty smell which could be smelt for a good distance. Trap now all discreet, covered in thick black material so cosy and made waterproof with some plastic sheeting. Entire box of salmon Felix food (courtesy of the 'real' Pumpkin) scattered around trap and area, and put inside trap along with bbq food to hopefully entice her into the shelter and have some well needed dinner. Fingers crossed for some news. Great work by foster parents and Danielle. I think this might just be a waiting game, so hopefully will get some good news soon x
- 2010-11-29 21:08 Angus
- Violet has shown herself again to foster family and has retreated again - they are sitting in the cars observing the BBQ and the wafting smells hoping that she will come back again.
Thanks Lynne for speaking to the companies - 2010-11-29 20:05 Lynne
- I have been over to the companies which have sites behind the Elstow tip, where she was seen. They have Andy's number and will ring if they see violet.... they also gave me some useful information of where she might hide so I have past that onto andy too... Good luck...
- 2010-11-29 18:31 alfmar
- it won't be long now until you can catch her and she is safe again........ thinking of you all and hoping the sausages do the trick xx
- 2010-11-29 17:16 dawnie1972
- Another thought - re the gate at TK Maxx - if she's been here before the chances are she may return - if we could locate the gap in the fence could we not entice her in with smelly sausages or something then have someone hiding waiting to block the gap off so that she cannot dart out the way she came in? Will keep checking back here in the hope she's moved to the reunited page.

- BUMPED DUE TO EARLIER SIGHTINGS - In view of her getting a little braver owners are going to BBQ behind the stores can we please ask others to STAY AWAY from this immediate area tonight an possibly concentrate on postering and talking to people a little further a feild. THANKS
- 2010-11-29 16:35 dawnie1972
- Good luck for tonight - everything crossed and praying she'll be so cold and hungry that a hot smelly barbecue will be too much of a temptation. I have some of those disposable barbecues if you need any you're welcome to a couple.

- Cookie - if you are local, are you able to call or perhaps even better, pop down there? We need to get to the bottom of this call.
- 2010-11-29 12:54 Angus
- cookie if you can try and find out more -there may be instore security in TKMaxx if anyone local could call the store and try to find out if it was one of them, my only concern with this and I have expressed this to Ovelica is that if she has been shut in somewhere she does not have access to food or water potenially so really trying to establish a where and when of the gate so that if this area has not been checked it can be sooner rather than later
- 2010-11-29 12:46 Pumpkin
- Not sure who this person could be then, as no security patrols take place. There were 2 men gritting the park last night, who i spoke to but no security. In light of it perhaps being a funny phone call to bring people to the site, we should all be ultra careful if going there out of hours - not to go wandering alone, lock car doors etc. You just never know.
- 2010-11-29 12:39 cookie
- hi it was me that got the call from aras kennels regarding the "security" bloke seing her,i did have my suspisions about this but the woman from kennels did ring police when she got call,i do hope its not peoples idea of a sick joke, its just not funny,i can get the name of the so called security bloke,x
- 2010-11-29 12:06 Pumpkin
- Just off phone to site manager for the retail park. There are no security people / vans that patrol the area in the evenings, and the only gate that is locked is the main access gate so that cars cannot congregate in the car park 'out of hours'. The call that security had isolated her confuses me - there are no security people there - can anyone add any more clarification on this point? Im hoping that wasn't some hoax call. They are unsure off the top of their head about CCTV usage and are going to check and let me know about this. They have offered any help they can, however, and were pleasant on the phone. I do believe that the leafleting to local houses / businesses would be beneficial to do now.
- 2010-11-29 11:28 Pumpkin
- Excellent Cookie. Looking at the map of the estate, these would most certainly be the best places to target for getting 'more eyes open' for her. This is the link - hopefully itll work this time! http://www.completelyretail.co.uk/media/scheme/2089/CR_RW_2089_Interchange_Retail_Park_Bedford_brochure_2.pdf

- PUMPKIN i work on the woburn road ind estate,i will take a wander round at lunch time putting posters through companies doors,x
- 2010-11-29 11:01 Pumpkin
- I think in light of her being spooked with too many people around, I do believe it would be beneficial for us to create more awareness (this has proved extremely valuable in the past) rather than a lot of us driving around which may well stop her from showing her face.
I have been online and can see the following companies very near to where she is in situ at the minute - if anyone is available to put a copy of the poster through the companies doors this evening / week that would be much more beneficial.
The Park and ride station
Audi
The houses immediately behind the interchange - namely - Silverbirches, White Beam Close, Magnolia Close, Adams Close
The businesses directly behind from Woburn Road Industrial Estate - Intafoam, Franco Ices, DP Fabrications, Carparts Direct, Plumb Centre, Bedford Pumps, BTB Mailflight and Elstow Ceramic Tiles.
The more awareness we have, the better we can track her movements.
I will get out as much as I can into the area this week, but can anyone help with leafletting the above companies? They are all in the immediate vicinity. - 2010-11-29 10:19 dawnie1972
- On Woodgreen facebook page says you nearly got her last night but she was spooked by other people looking for her - if this is the case is there any way that others looking for her can identify you/your car so that they keep a distance so as not to spook her again.

- Hi All. Wanted to post over weekend, but cant due to Mac compatabilities. Searched Sunday early evening with Ovelica and after false alarm with her being trapped in a gate, still no luck. The power cut at the interchange might have made me come out that evening, as we thought. An idea I had whilst sitting in traffic this morning is that whilst in that area, I imagine she will be eating things from the fast food outlets - McDonalds, KFC, etc so might be an idea to get some of this stuff and place is near the trap as a 'tempter'. Food wise i imagine she is going for this kind of thing as looks easily available (from all the litter on the floor near the bins) so this might tempt her into having something she knows and then hopefully she will go for more in the trap.
I will call the site agents today, as per the number we took down on Sunday evening (on our first visit) and just see if there is anything they can do.
An idea also will be to put posters up at the local businesses - and most certainly the Park and Ride which is more or less behind Toys R Us end of the park - Id be very surprised if that area doesnt have CCTV with all the cars using it etc.
I still have posters in my car so if any more need to go up just let me know and I can go over one evening.
Fingers crossed for good news today. - 2010-11-29 08:21 cookie

- Sorry for not updating on here yesterday. I had been texting Angus most of the day though and want to say thank you for the help when I got a crank weirdo phone call. We have the trap partially covered incase the cover sets the trap off and when we went to check it,it had been tampered with and moved a bit. It's really hard to find a suitable place to put it and we are trying to second guess her movements. We now have silent whistles as Pets at Home said these are better than the normal dog whistles so going to give that a go. Someone at PAH said he had just found out that his friend 4 days ago saw her running along the A6 and he tried to catch her. So I think her area must be th A6, B530 and the retail park what does everyone else think? Thank you so much again for your help x
- 2010-11-27 22:55 dawnie1972
- It must have been 11.30-12.00 when i was there and the trap was barely covered just a bit of blanket over the end where the food is. I would completely cover it and move the trap into the undergrowth maybe.
- 2010-11-27 19:06 cookie
- when i went up the trap was completly covered with blanket that was at 10.00am,agree with dawnie maybe turn it round and maybe lay some branches on and around it so its not so obvious,x
- 2010-11-27 17:53 dawnie1972
- It was only covered slightly at the end where the food was - i just thought it it was fully covered she may not see it as a trap and more of a cosy warm place to hide.
- 2010-11-27 17:17 Angus
- dawnie1972 - the trap was covered earlier so I am unsure if it has been tampered with - have alerted owners who will be back later
- 2010-11-27 14:12 dawnie1972
- Had a good look round this morning, went all along the back of the shops - no sign, just a thought but would it be an idea to cover the trap with a blanket and perhaps disguise it in amongst the hedge as it looks really exposed where it is and that in itself may scare her off from going to the food - others may disagree but was just my initial thought also if u are lucky anough to catch her in the trap she will be calmer if the trap is covered over and sheltered from the cold
- 2010-11-27 13:25 Angus
- I have just edited Ovelica's name out of your post below

- Hi , its Steff here (I text you earlier). I have just emailed the lady from Beds Police so will let you know what she says. I have some friends in dog rescue and have been asking their advice. Here are a few things they suggested:
* If she liked tennis balls or any other toys, take those along with you when out looking for her.
* Cover the trap with a cosy blanket and put another cosy blanket in it so it looks like a cost den to Violet
* Check if they have cctv and if security (or you) could check it for sightings of Violet so you could maybe get some sort of pattern of her movements.
Make sure as many people in all of the shops know and have posters bearing in mind that most of the stores will have a few different shifts. McDonalds i open 24 hours over the weekend so the night time staff will probably be the most likely to see her.
Whats the latest you have been up there? I am a bit of a night owl and wouldn't have a problem with going up there at these sort of late hours...I can always take my dog with me. When I was trapping the feral family of cats I was at the site ever night around 11pm because thats when it was quiet and they would come out.
If you need me to help at all, you have my number so just give me a shout. Violet is very much in my thoughts.

- Hi Dawnie she was seen early this morning at the back of the shops a member of Boots saw her plus the road sweeper did as well she had come in from main road where the roundabout is. We searched all around including the fields at the back of Toys R Us. We are not sure where her base is because she originally escaped into the woods where the car park is plus she has been seen near a layby on the B530. We have put loads of posters around the retail park hope nobody has taken them down they where there this morning. Thanks dawnie for your help x

- Was at the Interchange this afternoon, i didn't see Violet (what actual area of interchange has she been seen in) but I told anyone and everyone that she was missing, its surprising how many of the shop staff didn't know so if for each shop staff i told they then tell a customer who then tells another etc the more people know to look for her.

- Thank you all again for all what you are doing to help us find Violet. Thank you Angus for the chat on the phone sorry about my jerky voice I was playing tuggy with Max at the time.Cookie and Pumpkin and everyone here thank you, you are very special and wonderful people. We so want her back so much it's so cold out there at the moment she must be freezing. We will be heading to the area tomorrow first thing to see if we can see her as this maybe a regular thing she does in the morning. Hopefully with it being Saturday more people will see the posters we've put up we even managed to get them up at KFC and McDonalds. If you see her inthe area and haven't got my number if you go into Pets at Home they have the poster plus the grooming salon in there know us and have our details. Love and hugs to all of you x x

- Ok, the google link hasnt worked. But go to google maps, type in MK42 and then Race Meadows is where the interchange is. You will see a big green area behind that which backs onto Daubeney School and some houses. Ill try and get there this afternoon but will definately over the weekend. Fingers crossed.x
- 2010-11-26 09:39 Pumpkin
- Me again. Another good area to try would be the fields behind the interchange. if you follow the road back into Kempston down Orchard street there is Daubeney School. Their playing fields and the green there -which are quite big and probably well shaded - back onto that part of the interchange. I have tried to do a google map satellite picture here to show you. I would most certainly check that area. I can have a look over this weekend, and have printed off 30 posters here. I think this would be a very beneficial place to look as its fairly sheltered and in the right area. http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&tab=wl

- Hello all. This is very near my mums house where I am going this afternoon. I will have a slow drive around and see if I can see anything. Posters would be key in this area as the Interchange will be exceptionally busy at this time of year. I cannot print any posters today, but will try my best to get over that way tomorrow with my trusty roll of selotape. Fingers crossed she decides to give up playing hide and seek today poor thing. My husband has been down there searching and we have now moved the trap to this area. What I found frustrating was I had a call from the police later on asking did I have a ref number and I didn't it seems the idiot who took the details on Sunday hadn't put them on the computer or written them down so she wasn't on their data base yes i was cross. I think the police dog handler must have seen her details on here so Thank you again. Anyway thank you to Angus and everyone for being on here for me and my husband as our support.

If she sees or hears strangers she will go the other way so please do not try calling her etc. Keeping an eye out at a distance and calling Ovelica if you see anything would be of greatest help. While I had Vi on foster she hardly made a peep so unlikely to bark.
Thank you all so much for keeping a look out for her and spreading the word, you are wonderful people.

Hope you understand what I mean as if she is timid as you say she might not bark when she hears you she might be just moving around trying to get you

- Thanks ever so much for all your help and advice and thank you for the poster I've printed loads now. We did yesterday cut throughthe bracken where we thought we heard the jingle and that is were the trap is so fingers crossed she will return to that area. We are going back when the retail park is quiet as we have done the last 2 nights with our own dog as she may come out when there are no cars around. If you lose my number please call Woodgreen Animal Rescue they have her on their facebook so worth a look as well as that is where I found out about this fantastic website.

I know the railway line is near and the river is too we've searched the fields near there and the back of the shops too. We are so very worried but hoping that she will go into the humane dog trap that is set we had to get that from Huntington because our local dog warden wasn't interested. Thank you for keeping an eye out for her even if you take into Pets at Home they know about her. x x
