Lovely pictures and I think there is a glint of mischeviousness under that look of total exhaustion! He looks as if he may think that being out there all that time may not have been his fault!! LOL! I still find myself thinking about him being out there and then smiling to myself that actually he is home being spoilt rotten! Sometimes they really touch your heart and the effort and determination that Georges family put in to getting him home (and the fact he was just a bit of a stinker) makes George one of those for lots of people that don't even know him or his family. Welcome Home again lovely boy! xx

What a good day to come home for.Bet you are all thrilled to bits and relieved. Is he showing any signs of lameness, or is that all ok now. He may hav a little frostbite on his paws though!!I was in Bainton yesterday delivering stuff and had a good look round, especially near the railway.
Jenny
Thanks everyone for the kind comments. George is doing well today. Very sleepy and enjoying his food. Top picture is him last night looking shattered and the 2nd picture is this morning looking very much loved by the birthday girl, who got the best present ever when she woke this morning!

So relieved to see George is now home. Like so many others I have been following George's journey. It could so easily have been me with two beagles who "take off" when they think. I felt so helpless living too far away but have so much admiration for your endless energy searching for him in the worst weather for decades. Boy, these little hounds are strong and tenacious but I think it must be the flexi lead from now on! Good luck to you all wrap up warm by the fire and ENJOY.
SuzeeBee

Im so pleased to see George is home safely, have been following his journey, well done to everyone involved

Oh My God! What fantastic news to get up to! Well Done - I had a strange feeling it would be one of your parents he went to as they were with him when he went missing. I can't express what a fantastic job you have all done over the time he's been out there - you never ever gave up hope, you reacted on every single sighting and did everything we advised you to do no matter how hard or no matter how physically and mentally exhausted you all were. I hope you all slept well last night and can't wait to see some pictures of George the Stinker at home with you all later! Congratulations and Welcome Home George! xx
DogLostAngus
Oh wow Jenny - what wonderful news to get up to this morning - just off out to look for Violet and checked Georges page, welcome home little man xx
Jenny
I am over the moon to report that George is home safe and sound. My Dad couldn't sleep and took a drive out tonight and there he was just wondering around Barnack. Dad managed to keep his cool, crouched down and threw him some food. George just came over after thinking about it for a few minutes. He looks remarkably well, just very skinny. He seems like the same dog, perhaps just a bit quieter. I'm sure that won't last long.

Thanks to everyone for their help and kind messages. I'll take some photos in the morning and post them here.

He's to a restful nights sleep.
Beaglemum
I hope you are closing in on George now and he will be back home safe soon. Look after yourself George.XXX.

Hi Jenny, pleased to hear there has been some sightings of George again.I have been spreading the word around for people to look out for George, I wish I could help more.
Its our intention to walk our pack in the area where George is missing to see if we can spot him or even encourage him out from where ever he may be.
In mean time if I can help you at all during the evenings this week looking for George I am happy too.
ha0 busters owner

Bumped due to the new sightings, come on George it's time you were home x
PamH
Hi Jenny,
Pleased to hear there has been new sightings again, hopefully he will give himself up soon. Stay positive, you have a tough and lucky little boy there and hopefully its just a matter of time before he misses his Mum and warm bed.. x
Jenny
New sightings - Sunday at 4pm George was spotted in Southorpe. At the back of the wooded area near the bridge heading towards Ufford. i've been and left his food bowl here. I've also left his bedding in the spot where he was lost in Helpston as well as some food, but the food's not been touch for 24 hours.
Tonight around 6pm a Beagle was seen walking down the street in Barnack. We searched the area, but were about 30 mins behind him and saw no signs of him. He seems to be sticking to the same area though. It's -6 here so I hope he's found a nice warm barn to sleep in.
Jenny
Hi Joanne. Many thanks for your kind message. If you are walking around the Ufford area with your pack just keep an eye out for our little traveller.
DogLostMoogie - Area Volunteer, Cornwall
So sorry there have been no new sightings. I hope he's found a lovely warm shelter. Have you put any of your clothing down with your sent on it anywhere he has been spotted? So he knows you're close and he'll hopefully stay around. Just a thought. Praying he's home soon x
Joanne
Hi Jenny, I live in Peterborough and have been following the discussions of your little lost George, intially through Pam who i am friends with on Facebook.
My partner and i have 6 dogs and cant imagine quite how you must be feeling.
If there is anything i can do to help, i would happily do so.
x
Jenny
Many thanks. No sightimgs today and no sign of him at the Helpston Wood this morning. Heading back to check if food we left is still there. I also left bedding, so it would be nice to see him curled up on that.....wishful thinking I know.
DogLostRiverlady
Have put George on twitter + will circulate.
Auntie Katie
I'm sorry George is still not home with you! He may have gone to ground a little over the weekend when there were more people about - I hope you hear something today. I'll give you a ring this evening after work but if you need me in the meantime just call. x
Jenny
Thanks Jules. We thought he was heading back to where he was lost (Helpston), but no new sightings or sign of him there last night/today so not so sure now. Thanks for the advice.
DogLostMoogie - Area Volunteer, Cornwall
Been following George now for a few days. Have you put all the sightings on a map to see if it's forming a pattern? Dogs seems to have a triangle territory. This may help second guess where he's off to next. Also lying down or getting down as low as you can is the best thing to do so he's not intimidated but curious and will then approach. Wish I was closer to help but live in Cornwall! Hope he's home soon.
Jenny
No more sightings tonight. Been back to check food where George was seen last night and it was untouched. Looks like he just keeps moving. We reckon he may be trying to either get home or get back to where he was lost (woods near Helpston).
PamH
One of mine used to be a nightmare to catch and SuzeeBee's idea sometimes worked on her.Does he like squeaky toys or anything like that, could you sort of squeak it to get his attention and then throw him a bit of extra tasty food, sausages, liver and just keep gradually doing that till you build up a bit of trust.I used to have a ball on a rope toy and if I could get her into play mode and getting hold of that, I could usually grab her, she was an expert for not being caught, I tried every trick in the book and they only ever worked once.I dont know how close you have been managing to get to him, whether that would work. If you could get close enough in the car, but in front of him, maybe throw food out again and keep luring him forward nearer the car. Do hope you catch him soon, if you give us an update in the morning I may be able to go out again if he isnt too far from me by then.Hopefully I wont need to as he will be caught. If he is in the area where he went missing from do you think it would be worth parking you car where you did when you walked him. Good luck again for tonight.
Jenny
Thanks Suzee. We'll definately try it tonight if we spot him. We've left food where he was last night today so hopefully he'll be back in the same spot.
SuzeeBee
We had a naughty beagle once, she would not come when on a mission, the only way we could catch her was to lie down and cry and when she came to investigate grab her. It may be worth a try with George. Do hope you find him soon, come on home George you scamp and keep safe.Good luck for today x
Jenny
No further sightings today. We're out around the area all day looking, but will be returning tonight as it seems to be that George keeps his head down in the daytime. Thank you to the man who phoned today and had been out looking this morning with his boys. Much appreciated.
Unknown
George you are indeed naughty. You should not run away. This is not a game. It is very dangerous out there
Auntie Katie
George!! You naughty boy - come on lovely give yourself up and let your mum and dad (and grandparents) get some well deserved rest!! Jenny, I'm so glad that you now have a proper sighting of your own and I'm sorry he's out for another night! Good Luck for tomorrow! x
Jenny
No more sightings. George saw John, paused for a moment and then ran. John's left loads of food. He was on a sharp turn on road between Ufford and Bainton. Good news is he's looking strong and street wise.
Jenny
Thank you to the lady who phoned to offer to come out and search. No need at moment as I think another person might just send him running. Can't thank you enough for offering though.
Jenny
John has seen him. George was standing proud with tail up. When called George stopped and looked interested (not scared), but still didn't come. John and parents following tracks and dropping food. Come on already
Jenny
Search party giving it another 30 mins then heading home. Search commencing in Bainton at 5am.
Jenny
Just spoke to husband. No sign of him around where he was spotted. They think he's heading towards Bainton, maybe taking back road to Ashton.
Auntie Katie
Got everything crossed here!!! x
Jenny
Just had call from Ufford...George walking away from Ufford in the direction of Tallington. Sticking to the verge and looking fine in terms of no limping. We're on the case.
Jenny
Unfortunately not. Also, we always drive there and then walk so he's never walked there from home before. If he does go back to Helpston area the locals are well aware of him being lost so fingers crossed for another sighting tonight. I keep checking the garden and drive in case he has found his way home.
PamH
Does he know the area where he was lost and where he is quite well, hopefully he will find his way back to a house he knows if so. Fingers crossed for you.
Jenny
No further sightings today. We've been out around the area all day and I will go out once the rush hour has gone. He's very close to where he was lost so I've been back there a few times today. What a rollercoaster ride!
PamH
Any news today, I had to go into Stamford this morning and drove back the very long way round uffington, barnack, bainton way, didnt see anything though. He seems to be on the move at night and early morning, probably keeping warm moving and then goes to ground in the day.I went to put a poster in Chandlers but Jenny has beaten me to it and the staff in there did mention it to me as well so thats good if they are telling people.
DogLostHelen - Regional Co-ordinator - Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridge
Well done Jenny you are doing brilliant! Come on George it really is time to give yourself up, fingers crossed for today xxx
Auntie Katie
Come on George! Be brave and go to someone! Good Luck today Jenny I have everything crossed for you!! xx
PamH
Thats good news Jenny, just stay safe and be caught George.
Jenny
Been out looking in Southorpe and Ufford from 11.30pm on 2nd Dec to 2.30am on 3rd Dec. He's heading back towards home so could easily been in Barnack, Marholm, Ufford or Bainton by tomorrow morning. Food left in empty barns in Southorpe in case he does hang around.Last edited: 2010-12-03 02:57:33 by Jenny
Jenny
George was in Southorpe last night (running through the village from A47). We weren't able to catch him, but we know he has a bit of a limp, but nothing serious as he was still able to run.
Jenny
A very exciting sighting. Just had a call from a chap in Southorpe whose just spotted George (think in his garden, but will confirm when have more info). Husband and Dad on way now. Fingers crossed, but at least we know he's still alive and travelling.
PamH
It is snowing again here now, not heavy but enough to show up any fresh tracks tomorrow. Its a shame Burghley wont put the posters on the gates, do you think it would be worth putting a few up, even if they take them down again, some people will see them. It may have even been one of the helpers putting them up not you ;;Last edited: 2010-12-02 20:57:56 by PamH
Jenny
Hi Pam. Though Burghley are happy to distribute posters around the grounds, we've had to send them to the office rather then stick them up on the estate. We've put up posters in pub, PO and village Board in Easton on Hill and stopped the odd dog walker in the woods opposite the golf club. I'll put more posters up tomorrow on racecourse road.
Thanks for all the advice. Just hope we get a sighting tomorrow.
PamH
Jenny,
I have Reposted on facebook and asked everyone in the area to forward it onto anyone else they know in area and also print out some posters for Easton on the hill. I dont know how well you know the area, but if you go down a track straight through the woods opposite golf course, you come out in Easton and on racecourse road, so posters are need there. Had you put posters on any of the gates into Burghley as I didnt see any today and I went to 3 of the main gates,I didnt know if they had not allowed you to put them up.
Try and stay postive Jenny and Stay safe George to till someone can find you.x
Jenny
We have set a trap in one of the yards on the Burghley golf course, but we're not convinved that George is still hanging around. The rumoured sighting from yesterday morning isn't very clear, so it could be that George was last seen on the evening of Tuesday 30th Nov. Still hoping that he's at Burghley and has found somewhere warm to sleep and a food source. We have been told the he was lame in the front legs when he was last seen so it might be that he's resting-up nearby and keeping out of sight. Thanks to anyone who has been out looking. I can't tell you how much we appreciate it.
DogLostHelen - Regional Co-ordinator - Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridge
Yes PamH the contact numbers above are the owners, it is probably best to give Jenny a call to hear of any new sightings. Thank you for helping with George x
PamH
Is the contact number above for the owner?, as I am going to try and get to Burghley for a while this morning, so if you hear of any sightings today please let me know so I know what area to look in.
Auntie Katie
Nice to see you on here Jenny and Well done! You're doing a fantastic job, keep going. Will call you later but good luck for today! xx
Jenny
Hi, I'm Jenny, George's worried owner. We went back to Burghley today and looked for him until it got dark. No definate sightings, but someone may have seen him this morning, back on the Burghley golf course. We will be setting a dog trap tomorrow in case he is still around Burghley, but are also moving our poster campaign to villages within a 10 mile radius of Stamford. We are just hoping that he was seen this morning and he's managed to get warm after falling through the ice on the Burghley lake. Thanks to everyone who's been spreading the word.
DogLostHelen - Regional Co-ordinator - Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridge
Good news George has been seen again, hopefully he will be home very soon xxx
Auntie Katie
George's mum is out looking for him - he has been sighted again in Burghley Estate today! they are losing light quickly so I hope he shows himself soon! Stay warm and safe George! xx
PamH
A lady thats lives in the park and saw him yesterday morning about 0700 he trotted by twice and she said he looks ok. This may have been the sighting already reported, the keeper tried to catch him but he ran off.Such a shame when everyone is trying to help, but he is too scared to be caught.Hopefully today will be the day.
DogLostHelen - Regional Co-ordinator - Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridge
Thank you PamH x
PamH
I had added the link to my facebook page, I am very local to Burghley, so have alerted friends in the area to keep an eye out too.Hope you find him soon.
DogLostHelen - Regional Co-ordinator - Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridge
Yes I believe the area has been covered with posters, when the owner spoke to somebody who worked at Burghley house they were already aware that George was missing so word is spreading quickly about this young man.
PamH
Has she postered the gates into Burghley park yet, there are many dog walkers that go in their daily, someone is bound to see him.
DogLostHelen - Regional Co-ordinator - Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridge
George has been seen on Burghley House Estate which is about 6 miles away from where he went missing and he is not heading towards home. He was seen today by 2 gardeners who tried to catch him. All the workers on the estate are aware of George and have the owner's phone number, she has asked them to call her if George is seen. The owner will be going back to the estate as soon as it gets light tomorrow morning
PamH
Where has he been seen and where does he live as he may be heading towards home ? At least people would know where to be looking.
DogLostHelen - Regional Co-ordinator - Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridge
George has been seen about 4 miles from where he went missing, a person tried to catch him but he ran off. Owner's are now on their way there, I have discussed with them how to react when George is seen, i.e throw a bit of food then back off, no eye contact, crouch low etc. Hopefully George will be home very soon xxx
DogLostHelen - Regional Co-ordinator - Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridge
Posters and flyers now made up and sent to George's owner.
Auntie Katie
Just spoken to Georges mum. She's doing a fantastic job of getting him known. Will email info when I get home.
