- I have just spoken to the people on the number above who are helping to get Sparta back. You are all doing a great job keeping Sparta in the allotment area where she is safe for now.Thank you Xenas Mum for your help here too.I am going to email the scenting instructions we have to Juliet. If the contents of the owners vacuum bag can be used this will help.As someone has already said,a very gentle approach is best.

- Yes I searched for Yiftaki, he was missing for 6 months before he gave himself up to the old man he was many many miles from home by then. Unfortunately most of his thread got lost when DL was hacked! He now lives with Juliet.

This is the link to Yiftaki. - 2010-12-04 00:20 Nina
- Cant sleep so I am back online. I remember Yiftaki being lost. If my memory is correct he covered a fair distance over fields and the weather was similar to what we have now
- 2010-12-04 00:05 Riverlady
- Im just discussing it now with others.....Xenas mum were you involved with Yiftaki....the greek rescue dog ages ago? Unfortunately it is so late and we have been extremely busy tonight. Yiftaki hid in an elderly gents back garden and it took him a few days to befriend but he fed him. Then the elderly gent was too afraid to report him because he thought he 'd be PTS but eventually he reported him. Dogs arent daft...they are very resiliant. Dogs change their routine when out in the wild and will travel at dawn + dusk. They find dens and travel in a triangle between 3 feeding points. So mark your sightings on a map and try and see if there is a pattern. We put tins of sardines/pilchards at the feeding points. A dog in the wild will not recognize their name ....so if you see Sparta .....lay down on the ground.....whimper....you are indicating to the dog that you are in submissive mode. As there is an elderly owner.....maybe some old pillows....socks with her scent on it at one of the points. Well done everyone.

- Riverlady - Thank you for your assistance in asking for extra help. I sincerely hope that the temperatures improve as despite your information, the actual temperature recorded by the met office for this location was just over (-9) degrees at 9pm this evening. Here's the link: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/se/charlwood_latest_weather.html
Let's hope that the food and bedding provided in the shed at the allotment keep the dog from starving. Meanwhile, if anyone else has any bright ideas, let me know. - 2010-12-03 23:33 Inn the dog house
- Simon has just returned from hunting - no luck I'm afraid. Xenas Mum, are you able to communicate information to the neighbour or contact Juliet by other means, than the internet?
Also please could you let us know what the animal communicator suggests? - 2010-12-03 23:27 Riverlady
- Ive asked for a doglost co - ord to come on board and help. Now I checked the weather forecast it was -2 at 6pm....then the temp is going to go up.....to 2. Sparta will not be sleeping late at night as dogs keep moving to keep warm. If she is at allotments she will find shelter + food. Many allotmenteers leave food out for the foxes + birds. Another more local co -ord will come and advise. Now the last greek rescue dog we searched for ages was befriended by an elderly gentleman so she may even be indoors.

- Not everyone has Internet Julie
- 2010-12-03 22:58 Julie B
- trust me i feel the same. I feel that the neighbour or daughter should have registered as soon as so that a search etc could have been coordinated earlier to give sparta the best chance of being found. Is there anyway of contacting them to get them to log onto this site and update on what is being done so that others can help out where possible ? If there were enough people searching for her it prob wouldnt take long to find her as she cant b far. But it does need those people to communicate for that to happen. Sorry to rant on but i just want to see this beautiful girl home and safe in the warm as like u say she must be so frightened and hungry and to think she was in her own road last nite is just so sad. - Ok guys .. No I am not in contact with anyone in Lindfield, however, Juliet is and her number is 01342842683 she is our rehomer and will be there as soon as she can get her car dug out! Juliet is an older lady so please don't expect her to do anything you wont do yourselves! I do the IT stuff for Juliet as she doesn't have internet which is why this must seem so disjointed to you all.
Natalie .. Sugarmouse you have spoken to Juliet today I believe
Pam is the Neighbour who lives next door but one & who walks Sparta, Pam is the lady who should have the best chance of enticing Sparta to her.
Liz .. are you on here ? ? Liz has experience of a dog who has been in this situation.
Sally is out there looking as well she is the "owners" daughter but as she is a midwife there are other callings!!!
- 2010-12-03 22:39 Nina
- And so I switch of my computer with a heavy heart its so cold out there and with another cold night ahead of us I hope Sparta can survive. So sad to think so many days and nights have gone by with none of us realizing the full picture.

- Sorry but if nobody is conveying any of this information to the neighbour of the dog, we will continue to go around in circles. I thought the owner had a daughter, can this be conveyed to her. I have never met the dog, the neighbour or the owner, we are just trying to help. There needs to be some coordination.
Please can somebody tell me whether the neighbour reads these posts
Scholfields are kindly putting up posters tomorrow, they said the owner had a daughter, can she coordinate the search?
I cant believe that this is the 4th night and it is only one neighbour that is helping and we dont know whether she reads this website.

- 2010-12-03 22:00 Nina

- Exactly how many people are physically looking for Sparta in the area she has gone missing. I am always happy to help where ever I can - but I do work full time as well. - Only the neighbour who walks her! I have been banging my head against this computer since I set up this thread ... I have never met Sparta ... I have 2 Greek rescue dogs of my own and live over 300 miles away, I feel like throwing the dogs in the car and driving down there but if people who live less than 20 miles away can't get there what chance would I have? and apart from puting posters up and through doors what could I achieve. Sparta came over from greece in May this year and went straight to her new home so there is no one else she knows :( One of our members hopes to be able to get over there tomorrow and put up posters will you be around how can she contact you?

- Apart from the neighbour who walks Sparta you are the first people I have heard about who are looking for Sparta on the ground! The neighbour is I believe the lady who has aranged for the shed on the allotments to be left open. Thanks for the blanket and everything you are doing for Sparta, I am not sure that perfume will be enough to make Sparta love a man so sofly sofly .. cathchey monkey please. If she can be lured into the shed she will be ok overnight and we can consider the possibility of a trap. She is nervous of anyone she doesn't know! The schools were open when I emailed them so hopefully they told the kids! Post Office and local shops dont have e-mail so i am relying on the local DL people to do them. The owner did contact her vet before she became ill and I have e-mailed a poster to them. I believe a poster was faxed to the golf club and Medical centre. Sparta really hasn't gone far from home in fact she has moved closer to home so hopefully she will settle in the allotments, and allow herself to be caught ..... SOOOO COLD :( :( :(

- If the weather is a problem to getting out and about to tell people what about just sitting down at the comp. and emailing anyone you can find in the RH16 post code area. I know that it is difficult at times to get through to email addresses but one is better than none and if they get duplicated by helpers so be it.

- Hi Milliondollar dogs is sugarmouse.
Sad the radio wont help, shame on them!
Simon wearing my perfume(as she doesnt like men) has left with one of my dog beds and extra thick blanket and left in the allotment shed. Hes searching the area and waiting in the allotments for movements. Thank goodness you have contacted a dog communicator, we suggested this days ago!! Trouble is alot of the schools are closed due to the weather. Hope the posters that Schofields put up help. Maybe the post office and local shops would be a good starting point and the local streets. Please tell me there are others searching! Who has been looking prior to today, Their information would be useful. Sorry to appear bossy but time and temperatures are making me like this and I love dogs better than people! Has the owner any family and also can the neighbour please tell all the other neighbours in the area. thanks Last edited: 2010-12-03 21:27:45 by Inn the dog house - 2010-12-03 21:07 Julie B
- I am in Horsham - but the roads are so bad am unable to get to Haywards Heath. I dont know Haywards Heath very well - but do hope that she is seen tonight as it is so cold out. I hope she is bck this weekend - but if not it would be good to conatct the Mid Sussex Times newspaper on Monday and ask them if they will do a story in the paper for next Thursday. This would make most people in the town aware that she is missing. I am sure that they will be able to help. Have you tried to contct Heart Radio in Crawley ? They have been known to mention things like this on air before. Pleas Sparta show yourself to someone and let them help you beautiful girl. Julie x

I AM HOPING THIS SITE WILL BRING PEOPLE TOGETHER SO THAT SOMEONE CAN CO-ORDINATE THE SEARCH FOR SPARTA, CERTAINLY HER OWNER WILL NOT BE PART OF THIS DUE TO HER AGE AND STATE OF HEALTH!

- my memory of the scenting advice that i was given when buster went missing was that it can be all family members wee collected and depending where you are scenting ie,if in a field you choose a safe place like a bush and mark a star like shape out with wee.then you can put food and something with your scent on it like an old item of clothing.not sure but should in theory work if you were to scent trail to your front door, but suppose it would depend how many people walk in that area?you can also use the contents of your hoover and dilute it.you could try tripe as a smelly food.good luck and hope sparta is home soon.thoughts and prayers are with you, stay safe until you are home gorgeous girl xxxxLast edited: 2010-12-03 20:03:22 by ha0 busters owner

- 2010-12-03 19:04 Nina
- Not sure if any of the co=ordinators are invoved in giving advice to you. I understand that one of the ways of trying to lure out missing dogs from where they are hiding is to scent the area with something they are familiar with! In basic terms I think that means wee! So if the owner is willing to wee for England and you can sprinkle it where you think it is the best place to keep her or trail it to your front door you may have more chance in getting her home. At this stage anything is worth trying. If anyone has more experience of this please step forward and tell all!

- No problem, we spent most of the afternoon searching with Natalie the local groomer(user name sugarmouse). There needs to be more awareness of Sparta, it worried me that everybody with the exception of one person, in the surrounding didnt know she was missing. Is anybody coordinating the search.I know that posters are going to be put up tomorrow but has anybody contacted local radio, etc. We told Somerfields, Toll House cafe and the butchers, again nobody knew. Also a lady who worked in Somerfields had seen her last night but because she didnt realise she was missing didint think she was lost. Please have an open mind and contact the dog communicator (psychic) as they can help. Please can somebody let me know if a blanket can be left tonight in the allotment shed. We are against the clock, its -6 and im becoming frantic at the thought of her alone and cold. CAn somebody provide a trap so that she can be tempted with food and caught. Any ideas? - Schofields and Inn the dog house ... Thank You so much for posting .. I really didn't know if anyone else was out there looking for poor Sparta. I am in Norfolk so can do no more than e-mail from here, and Juliet is snowed in. The only info I have been getting has been whatever Juliet has been able to obtain by talking to people on the phone. Please keep updating this thread. I don't know if you can get any hoover contents from Sparta's home to spread around the shed, just need to damp it down. I do wonder if Sparta has attemped to get into her home but not attracted anyones attention. Tinned pilchards in tomato sauce are a good smelly food. Don't forget that she is extremely nervous and does not like men! Please give yourself up Sparta these people are there to help you xxxx

- Hi Scholfields, you must be the ladies we met at the allotments. Just thinking whether it might be worth checking whether the food has been eaten tonight and perhaps a blanket or bed can be left in the shed for this evening as temperatures are already -6. Water could also be left in the shed. I think it may be worth telling all neighbours in the area and surrounding roads to help with the search. Speak soon and let me know whether anybody is putting a blanket down this evening. x She was actually seen on Greyalders last night and Meadow Drive. There were tracks today on the allotments toward the hedges.

- Apparently she was seen around the allotments last night
We have been out searching tonight. We only live around the corner and also had a greek dog so know how scared they can be. Food that was left in the shed in the allotments had gone so we left some more so hopefully she won't be going hungry and we found some paw tracks in the snow. Posters are on the way out around the village and we will be going out to look again tomorrow! - 2010-12-03 13:09 Julie B
- Has there been any further sightings of Sparta today ? I am in Horsham and work full time - but if there is anything I can do from here ... email or phone then please let me know as I would be more than happy to do that. - Have any posters being put up? Also please contact the dog communicators recommended by site, they find dogs that are alive and are very accurate, At this stage, you should be thinking of using one. They can save valuable time and are a valid search method.
Have the vets, dog wardens, local shops, etc being informed? Contact the local radio stations appealing for help. Is there anything we do to help? Sparta, please make yourself seen so people can help you. Does the owner need any support? From experience of helping another dog that went missing keep retracing your steps and revisit the places. Maybe a leaflet drop to all the local houses may help. Hope you are found today Sparta as everybody is worrying about you. - 2010-12-03 08:26 Xenas Mum - Area Volunteer, Norfolk
- Spartas neighbour thinks she is hiding out in a very thick hedge so is trying to entice her to a safe place by leaving food out. Spartas mum is elderly and what with the weather and losing Sparta she is not well enough to help in any way :( Sparta knows the neighbour as she often walks her. If Sparta can be tempted to visit the safe place we can then consider setting up a trap.
- 2010-12-02 21:13 Julie B
- I am so pleased that she has been sighted again this morning and close to home. The thought of her out there last night in all that snow kept me awake. Do you think she may have lost her bearings a bit because of the snow? I dont know if this is a good idea or not - but maybe a bbq in the front garden to draw her home - just a thought as the smell would tempt her if she were nearby. Or maybe kennel/dog cage in the front garden covered over with her bed/blankets inside - these are just thoughts to try and help. I so want to see her back home as she needs to be back in the warm. Stay safe Sparta. Julie x

- Apparently Sparta was seen in a garden about 500 yds from her home this morning. I hope she is gradually making her way back. Sugarmouse she is still around her home so I dont think a psychic would be much help at the moment. You might like to suggest it to Evas people though - Border Collie missing from RH1. Stay safe Sparta and GO HOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!

- Sparta is a very nervous dog and is unlikey to go to anyone she doesn't know, she is frightened of men. A lady who often walks her has been out looking for her ... and i believe there are others looking as well.

- So relieved she has been seen. Maybe in this particular instance the fact she has a lead trailing may be helpful. If only someone can manage to get hold of it/step on it. Everything crossed that there will be good news, preferably before nightfall and even worse weather sets in.

- The sighting is good news but, oh dear, this is really worrying me. I know it's probably a stupid question but did the person who sighted Sparta on (presumably) the nearby allotments try to entice her to them or is she very timid? Hoping that Sparta can be 'caught' today.

- That is fab news - at least if she is out and about in the open someone will now see her and help her to warmth and safety. Is there anybody out in the area looking for herm do you know ? I do hope she is home again before tonight as it is going to be so cold and more snow predicted. Stay safe gorgeous - we are all keeping our fingers crossed that you are back home before dark. - I've just had a call to say she has been sighted, still trailing a red lead. She was on some allotments and is obviously moving around ok... at least she is alive I hope she makes her way home it is quite close. Stay safe Sparta and find your way home sweetheart x

- I cannot stop thinking about this lovely girl. I am in Horsham (about 30 mins away), but the snow is still falling and the roads not good at all. Has she been sighted at all ?
I do hope that she has found somewhere safe and warm until she is found. Julie xLast edited: 2010-12-01 14:09:42 by Julie B - 2010-12-01 13:30 Unknown
- Oh god I am so sorry I am miles away from there and do not know anyone from that area and she is such a beautiful girl I will pray for her that she caught very soon safe and well.
I know what it is like around this area when there are no other helpers when a dog goes missing from here it is awful as I feel on my own.
I cannot express how gutted I feel that I do not live closer.
What about the D/Warden in that area would he/she not have a scout around?
Please stay safe Sparta until you are found xxxx - 2010-12-01 11:06 Xenas Mum - Area Volunteer, Norfolk
- Mistynsashasmum its on the ouskirts of Haywards Heath http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4GPMG_enGB360GB360&q=Lindfield I think that is quite a way over from you but if you know anyone in the area you could alert that would be very helpful. We all feel so helpless....

I am not very good with directions what would be the nearest town to where this little girl has gone missing if you could post more details I will see if I live near enough to help.
Worried she still has the lead attached though.
Stay safe Sparta darling until you are found xxxx - 2010-12-01 10:17 shoot the owner

- I wonder if there are any DL helpers in this area. I am in Norfolk so can't do more than e-mail all the places I can find in the area. Our local Rescue rep is currently without transport so can't do a lot. Sparta was rescued from appaling conditions in Greece, please do not allow her to die in the freezing cold of West Sussex :( :(

- Sparta is a rescue dog who was homed with an older lady in May this year. She disappeared when it was time to get in the car this afternoon at the end of her walk. This is only the second time Sparta had been in the car but she is only 5 mins drive from her home! She still has her lead attached. It is unlikely she has gone far and is probably hiding nearby.
