- Date Found 11 Dec 2010
- Where Found Hamish was unfortunately found under the ice in our pond - a tragic accident and we are all utterly devastated.
- Date Reunited 11 Dec 2010
- Other Info Hamish is not wearing his normal collar with his ID tags on as it was being washed - he is, however, wearing a green electric collar (as our property is 3 acres and has a small electric fence round the whole property in order for Hamish to run freely - he has never crossed the fence line - this is totally out of character for him).

- Just a quick note to thank you all so very much for putting every effort into finding our lovely Hamish. We unfortunately found him this morning under the ice in our pond. We are having a lot of work done at the pond and the builders had put a hole in the ice (it is 4 inches thick) and he must have slipped in the hole. As you can imagine, we are utterly devastated to have lost our little boy - he was a gorgeous, cheeky much loved young man and we are going to miss him more than words can say. We have laid him to rest in our woods, his favourite place - Andrea x

- Just logging in to see if there is any news on Hamish - so sorry that he is still missing :-( One of the people that i emailed yesterday is in Peacehaven today so was going to keep an eye open and mention him to any dog walkers that they come across - she was also going to mention him to a dog boarder that she know in Peacehaven too although that may be the same person that "Phari" is talking about. Andrea, have you thought about putting up a poster at the leisure centre? I don't have a printer at home otherwise i would have done it for you - not only is the run going on tomorrow, but there is apparently two childrens parties too so there will be lots of local activity up there and a poster may just jog someones memory. I'm sure that you've already done this, but also local vets, dustmen, postmen, taxi firms - also, is there not a kennels at the top of the hill between newhaven & Peacehaven? I've got a feeling that they take in local strays or they always used to, they may be worth a visit too, although i'd guess that if they'd got him they would have scanned him...worth asking maybe. I did also email a dog trainer that i know who is based in Seaford (i think).

- Andrea, keep positive its amazing how many times Doglost comes up with dog reunited after many days or even weeks.
We have emailed as many people as possible along the coast and villages. Dog walkers will also be reciving the same email. Twitter is buzzing as is facebook.
We know this little dog as a friendly and brave little chap, i do wonder if someone has taken a shine to him rather than him being lost.
I understand doglost have a pshyic that has helped reunite dogs before and one not so long ago in west sussex, anything is worth a try.
We will see you latter Andrea and see if we can think of anything else that can be done to get this little man home. xx

- Thanks for putting the posters up, Phari - really really appreciate it - have not contacted the ranger, do you have any contact details? Have let the stud farm in Telscombe Village know he is missing - have contacted Dogs Trust and the kennels for Lewes Council this morning, but as of yet, nothing. The longer this goes on, the more my heart sinks

- Sorry to take over the post but Rachel if you are member on that other site could you point them to http://www.pets.ie/lost_found/lost_westhighland_terrier_lost_cork-1812.html could possibly the missing dog.
Andrea i have a stall in Peacehaven Market today and i have printed off some posters. Will put them on the stall incase anyone can help.
Have you contacted the ranger you looks after the area, i beleive he can be found on the Tye most mornings. - 2010-12-10 22:54 Andrea Bonson
- Thank you all for your wonderful comments - I have turned off the fence (did that immediately) contacted the local farmers and gamekeepers (they kindly walked the downs until 11pm last night) All of my neighbours have been amazing, one has a security camera on the road and viewed four hours of tape around the time he disappeared, but he did not show up on camera. We have shouted down the rabbit holes in the garden and listened with a cone - put posters up all around the area, and have left the front gates open so that he can get home easily. We do love this little man so much, very sad - thanks for the link racheljane, not Hamish though, he is neutered and chipped. Good luck on your run, Zoe, will be cheering you on.

- Sorry to see Hamish is missing. I know a couple of people in the Peacehaven area so will email them a poster now. I'm doing an organised 10 mile run on Sunday from the leisure centre in Peacehaven so will keep an eye open for him as i think our route takes in some of the Downs. Hamish isn't the first dog that i know about that has got out of electric fencing - the problem is that there is more temptation to escape if, in my dogs case, they see a fox, badger, deer - i know an electric fence wouldn't keep my dog in if he saw any of those things! And then when they try to get back, they presumably get another shock which isn't going to encourage them to come back. Make sure the fence is turned off so at least if he tries to come home he won't get a shock! Good luck in your search for Hamish - i hope he turns up safe and well.

- Check any known rabbit or fox holes. There have been a number of dogs lost in the Peacehaven area due to them going down holes and not comeing back out. Esp if they meet a badger. Will poster Chatsworth Park, Peacehaven later today once i get back from shopping.
