- Sadly our worst fears have been realized. Hermes had been hit by a train; his body was found on the embankment this morning. Thank you to everyone who helped search for him, if anyone is in the area and sees a poster please will you take it down.
Run free at the bridge sweet boy .... nothing to be fearful of now xxxxxxx - 2010-12-15 19:26 Xenas Mum - Area Volunteer, Norfolk
- I don't understand it either Jackanory. You are all doing such a good job looking for Hermes. Has anyone managed to get a poster into MacDonalds in East Grinstead yet? Maybe also east Grinstead railway station. Have we managed to check / notify owners of all the local outdoor swimming pools? Would you like another poster that asks people to look in their garden sheds / outhouses? I presume the owners have double checked that Hermes hasn't made it back and hidden up in a shed and got shut in. I know it sounds silly but am clutching at straws here!
- 2010-12-15 17:18 jackanory
- well today i have walked the footpath that runs along the railway track from dormas stn in the east grinstead direction for as far as the footpath goes which isnt actually that far. i have postered with the little posters all the way along. you can see the track itself very clearly and hes definatly not lying on that section of the track but there are lots of bramble bushes on the far side of the track that he could have ended up in if he was hit...i crushed lots of pilchards into the ground by all the holes to help him find them and then the scenting has been done fron there to home...the footpath comes to a viaduct and quite a big lake(?) which was frozen, the areas i could get too i could not see any breaks in the ice but there were lots of areas that couldnt be reached.i have leafleted the houses that are in that road although they are all already aware , i was actually shown the spot that hermes was seen on fri and i still just dont understand why he didnt just go home..its just yards away .Last edited: 2010-12-15 17:23:19 by jackanory

- i am a volunteer from the charity that hermes was homed from and have been to the area today that hermes is missing from and put up another 50 posters around lingfield and dormansland area. the spot where hermes was seen on friday was so close to the owners home and plenty of holes that wildlife have made so we just do not understand why he didnt go home, he knows the area very well.....the owners have scented as instructed and have done a good job of postering themselves. we are told the weather is about to get bad, please go home hermes boy.x

- What are these people like to have just left the dog errrrrrrrrr, Fingers crossed he shows him self again come on Hermes it going to get colder out there. Shoot the owner your doing a good job. And well done BorderCollies and wishing Eve home soon too.
- 2010-12-13 17:08 Xenas Mum - Area Volunteer, Norfolk
- Well it is only up the road from where he lives, there ARE holes in the fence that he could get through. There is apparently a lot of thick undergrowth along the edge of the fence which has a path running alongside. No sign of Hermes though - They have scented along the fence to the holes and back towards the house. They are going back after dark in case he is laying low in the day. Rail track haven't found any thing so fingers crossed.
Thanks for the extra postering yesterday Shoot The Owner x - 2010-12-13 13:25 doglady
- Oh I hope someone can go to see if they can help Errrrrrr I wish I had my car, that could explain why he is unable to get back he can not find away through. Last edited: 2010-12-13 13:25:53 by doglady

- A man has phoned this morning to say he saw Hermes on Friday running on the wrong side of the fencing along the railway line at Dormansland, apparently he walked along but could see no way for the dog to get back through so he just left him there!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Someone is phoning rail track now Hermes is already registered with them so I hope he has found his way out safely.

- Border Collies you have so much on your plate searching for Eva!!!! I thank you from the bottom of my heart but please (as I know you will) put Eva first xxxxxxxxxxxxx Hermes and Eva stay safe and show yourselves .. if only to let us know you are still around x
- 2010-12-12 22:03 BorderCollies
- I am quite familiar with the area as I lived in East Grinstead for while. I can go to the A22 probably tomorrow and put some posters up.
- 2010-12-12 19:57 Xenas Mum - Area Volunteer, Norfolk
- Thanks Doglady I doubt Hermes would be mistaken for a lurcher but you never know, he is also so timid I wouldn't expect him to be along side the A22 but again you never know! My recollection of that piece of road is that it is quite fast with little opportunity for posters to be viewed so it will, I think, be best to target the road junctions / roundabouts ... just need to find someone able bodied with a laminator duck tape and cable ties a bit closer that 300 miles away!!!!
- 2010-12-12 17:40 doglady
- Xenas Mum Today my Son was on his way to see us and mentioned that he see a lurcher running. along the A22 BY THE Wire Mill Running in and out the hedge, I ask him was it a lurcher or could it look like this, and showed him the photo of HERME he said he could not be sure, but did say it had some white on it, now you could mistake HERMES for a lurcher, I ask him on the way back could he keep am eye out he did but did not see anything but that area needs Posters. A lot of people from the area would see the dog and just think it was from the other travellers site as this happens a lot so may be if they don't see a poster will think just that it is a travellers dog.

- We are all getting very worried now there have been no sightings of Hermes :( I am sure he could be mistaken for a fox in the dark......

- Notre Dame School, e-mail address
lingfieldnotredame.co.uk is in St Pier's Lane off of the race course Road and the building opposite was at one time the Lingfield sports club. yep always a lot of dogs loose in that area as they do not believe in secure gardens. well not all of them that is. - 2010-12-11 17:04 Xenas Mum - Area Volunteer, Norfolk
- Their website is up and running so have emailed them they are in St Piers Lane.
- 2010-12-11 16:49 shoot the owner
- Is Notre Dame School directly opposite the entrance to Race Track if so it is no more, it is boarded up? We have dogs running riot in this area at the moment, tried to catch a staffie on the A22 today but he legged it through to fields and a whippet plus another went belting thru Lingfield yesterday towards A22 area. Will go for a walk on golf course tomorrow.

- You need to cut and paste the link into your browser to get it to work, otherwise just type Station Road Dormansland into Google maps.
- 2010-12-11 15:59 doglady
- When mentioning the travelers site it was not suggesting any thing bad!!! I do Know this group of people for years and they would not spit in your eye they are to nice for that and why I said travelers site because a lot of people from the area know it as that and not the Plantation, and yes they are very different, they use to use my premises on a regular basses and was very helpful Dianne. Anyway you are doing a good Job only wish I could help but as I said my car is out of action. I do have contact info from the site and I will ask if they would keep an eye out for Hermes. Hope is is home very soon. Xenas Mum tried your link but it is not showing anything, could you may be try another link? Also there is a school called Notre Dame might be worth e-mailing the school as we know children are very good at keeping an eye open.Last edited: 2010-12-11 16:24:02 by doglady

- Shoot the Owner you are a star, thank you so much! They live in Station Road Dormansland (I've added it to the poster)
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=&q=station+road+dormansland&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Station+Rd,+Dormansland,+Lingfield+RH7+6NL,+United+Kingdom&gl=uk&ei=Z5UDTaHuLJK24gat7aBT&oi=geocode_result&ved=0CBYQ8gEwAA&ll=51.155427,-0.002478&spn=0.002651,0.009645&t=h&z=17
I think the 'A' is pretty well on their house. They walk on the Golf course opposite.
Come on Hermes find you way home boy we are all getting very worried about you. - 2010-12-11 15:05 shoot the owner
- The Plantation? not travellers, fairground people, and they consider themselves to be quite different and they do live very differently they'll spit in your eye if you call them travellers! Lingfield Park very helpful put a poster in the foyer on the door so will be seen by all entrants to racing, posters in car parks as well. Had another drive around but nothing. It says he lives near the railway, is that near the station itself or does it mean near the track that goes thru Dormansland and Lingfield? Helps to narrow it down a bit when considering options which to go and post picture.

- Have emailed poster and link to this site to Battersea, Ladyhaye kennels, Little Orchard Dog and Cat Hotel, Windmill Farm kennels Couldson,Purple Pet Centre at Occasionally Yours Garden Ctr. and Ifield Park Equestrian & Pet Supplies. So few places seem to have e-mail or fax numbers it is very frustrating.
- 2010-12-11 12:06 doglady
- Also worth mentioning that there is a big travelers site off the rounder about just past the Mormons Temple on the way to the golf course.

- Running off posters for Lingfield and will drop them into them on the way to Birchwood Kennels Caterham and make sure they are aware as well - a bit far out but then ...There are loads of small rescues around here and if Dog W is not on top of things they go to a holding kennel such as Birchwood for Tandridge area. Will take another drive around Dormansland on way back home around midday.

- Hermes escaped from his Garden around 4pm yesterday afternoon. He is not wearing a collar but is microchipped. Hermes is a rescue dog and although he has lived with this elderly couple for two years he is still extremely nervous of people. He knows the area well and has been lost before but found his way home after a few hours. He lives very near the Railway which is a major concern, we have informed Railtrack and all the usual DW Council Vets Police etc. If there is anyone in the area who could help put some posters around it would be very much appreciated, please do just pop a post on here to say you are helping though. Many thanks.
