re homed from the kennels x

Non-curly tails can happen in Malamutes, and even the curly tailed ones usually won't have as tight a curl as the average Akita. He's a beautiful, stunning boy. I'm glad he has a home ahead of him!

He looks like a Northern Inuit to me, but no expert!

I went through all the variants on site for matches of akita which I didn't think he was - Husky which I thought he was due to a normal non curled tail and Malmutes and could not find a match - he did have a home lined up if owners were not found - they were at the kennels whilst I was taking the photographs

Have changed breed name.

strangechild is right. This *isn't* an Akita. I would say a (poor? young?)Malamute or a Malamute cross. I'll inform someone I know who does Malamute rescue.
Strangechilde
I am an Akita owner and I don't think the dog pictured is an Akita-- if he is, he's a mix, but I suspect that he is in fact a young Alaskan Malamute (also a breed with which I am familiar). The face markings, chest markings, eyes, and snoot shape all suggest this. Akitas and Malamutes share a strong build and a curly tail, but an Akita would have smaller ears, smaller, probably darker eyes, and those strong face markings are very Malamute.Last edited: 2010-12-17 05:41:13 by Strangechilde

ANGUS-THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO EXPLAIN. MAYBE THERE SHOULD BE STRICTER LAWS ON OWNING A DOG. ITS NOT THE DOGS FAULT AND THEY ARE THE ONES WHO SUFFER. WHEN I COMPARE MY DOGS LIFE WITH MANY OF THE STRAYS ETC IT MAKES ME FEEL SO SAD. ALL MOST OF THEM WANT IS SOME LOVE.

dewilliams42 - good question - you may possibly see that Mondays is my kennels day and there will be a lot of listed as found but many moved to reunited too, some will go home - many are taken out by local rescue Animals in Need of Northampton and one or two are being taken out by specailist rescue - I have appealed for help with the found Boxer for instance

Sadly one or two will be PTS - These are generally ones that are either sick or aggressive - the kennels have noticed a marked increase in both owner reclaim rates and rehoming since they started allowing me in to take the photographs so long may it continue x

This dog for instance was being visited by his prospective new owners when I was at the kennels.Last edited: 2010-12-14 12:23:43 by Angus

ANGUS WHAT HAPPENS TO THESE DOGS IF NOT CLAIMED-DO THEY GO TO RESCUE PLACES? IT SEEMS SAD IF NO-ONE CLAIMS THEM-THEY MUST HAVE BEEN LOVED AT SOME TIME.
