- That's lovely, Alex. Thank you for that update. So glad Wendy could feel our love toward her and Scamp. Well done Alex, you did good. x

- Hi all Wendy came over and has read the comments kindly placed by you kind people, she shed a lot of tears and of course I had to join her.
Sadly she is still no nearer finding out what happened but now has proof that he was reported to the rspca which they denied, and I know she will not let this drop.
Will keep you all informed take care Alex and furrie friends - 2011-01-11 00:01 Kimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
- Please, Alex, let Wendy have a print of these comments so she knows so many people care. It will make her cry but it will also help her heal. This site and these kind people gave me the strength to go on, when my dog was killed. My Mum is 89 and she needed to read the comments too; no matter how sad, the support helps. I am so angry with the RSPCA over many things and this is yet another! I just do not understand them - they are contradictory to their own reason for being! There are good people there, but sadly not as many as there should be! God Bless little Scamp and God Bless Wendy. Tell her Scamp is safe in God's arms now, waiting for the time they will both be reunited (but not just yet, as Wendy has a bit more time to do here!) Scamp is now her guardian angel. - Thank you all, will keep you updated but you are right they all reckon no one told them etc which I know is an out an out lie as I contacted them all for her as well as her doing it herself, she is taking it to our local paper as thats not good enough and I agree and will back her up all the way.
I adopted a yorkie 3 weeks ago from RSPCA and was told she had been spade and she hadnt that was great as I have a 17 year old border collie who hasnt been done and she came on season and had to take her back, temporarily of course. - 2011-01-07 12:00 SSol
- So sorry to hear this sad news, run free little scamp. Hope he's running with our little Lollie, who we lost just a week ago. Sean x

- Thanks for the update Alex. Sadly this seems as if it was a total lack of commumnication between reports of lost and found dogs. My heart goes out to Wendy she must be devastated.

Posting this is so upsetting and as the tears roll down my face after reading all the lovely messages that have been left for scamp, I will say that although the chip was out of date due to Wendy being a little forget full and taking him as a rescue from someone who couldn’t keep him a long while ago, all and I repeat ALL the RSPCA knew about scamp, all the vets in the area where he was lost knew about scamp and all the dog wardens knew about scamp and still he was taken to the vets and put down, does it not seem that if they are old and seem too old to rehome then they just put them down, I want say euthanize as that’s for animals that are sick and in pain, this one as far as I know was just old and tatty and obviously not a designer dog which they all seem to want now adays.
So again I will say a great big thank you for all the caring people out there keeping a watchful eye on all the dogs that find there selves misplaced temporarily I hope.
Hey little Scamp RIP on Rainbow Bridge with Butch (Butch was my little Poppet who I sadly lost 4 weeks ago at the age of 12 and a half, still greatly missed) will keep you informed as I know this is NOT the end of this.

- This is terrible. I'm so sorry. Run free at the Bridge Scamp. My thoughts are with the owner

- An absolute disgrace - the vet and the RSPCA need to account for themselves. My thoughts are with the lady and Scamp - RIP little one you did not deserve this to happen to you xx

- Please see my previous posting. Scamp was chipped to an old address so maybe they just couldn't trace the owner.

- A terrible thing to happen and my heart goes out to the elderly owner. We need to know full facts about this case before we can fully comment on this.
Radar ears- most vets and dog wardens do i full body scan to check for any moved chips- i know if i dont find a chip in the normal place then the next step is all over.
Pettlog hold the records of most chips on there data base - to change details they would need to refer it back to the chip company it came from. - 2011-01-05 20:50 Shereen
- This is So Heartbreaking, absolutely nothing I write will make anybody feel any better. What an awful thing to happen to dear Scamp and his owner.

- 18 months ago we got another rescue dog (Sam the Labrador) as our other Lab (Mick) had passed away at 15 yeara old and our collie (Benji) was looking lonely. (Sadly he's now passed away too at 14½).
Anyway, the other day it suddenly dawned on me that I didn't know if Sam was chipped, so I took him to the vets and asked the vet nurse to put the "paddle" over him.
At first she went all over his neck and said that he wasn't. Then she tried it again down the side of his neck and it registered, she told me that the chip had slipped down the side (which was obvious!)
So (and this is the confusing bit to me) she wrote the chip number down for me and told me that it was with "petlog" so I looked on their website when I went home and to change ownership, I had to have proof he was mine, such as an adoption certificate.
I e-mailed the lady at the rescue and she said she'd sort it out for me, I gave her the chip number and she said that it was an "avid" chip. Not petlog at all.
Anyhow she got it all sorted for me, I've got the new certificate to prove Sam is mine and all his details are now up-dated.
What I'm getting at is, I bet not everyone, when they scan an animal, bother to go all round it's neck in case the chip has moved and what if (when they do find a chip) they contact the wrong company (same as my vet nurse told me it was one company and it turned out to be another) - 2011-01-05 20:12 Lisa123
- My thoughts are with Scamps owner x

- Oh no what a dreadful thing to happen. If poor little Scamp was microchipped and his details were up to date then this is a disgrace and i'm sure will be looked into. I wonder if he had done his 7 days or if he was in a bad way when they got him to the vets, either way if his details were up to date then there is no excuse for why his owner wasn't informed as she probably would have wanted to be there at the end. So sad RIP poor Scamp.

- This is just disgraceful. That poor old lady will be broken hearted thinking of her wee dog lost and then put down without a thought.God bless you Scamp. May you have many happy years at Rainbow Bridge.xx

- Lot of if's regarding poor Scamp. If only he had been tagged. If only there had been a photo on site. If only the RSPCA were to check with doglost to see if a found dogs are on this site. If only as maybe the case the chip had been changed to the present owner. RIP Scamp.
- 2011-01-05 18:38 AlisonH
- We don't know all the facts yet. Looking at the registration it does say Scamp was chipped to an old address so maybe they tried to contact the owner.
- 2011-01-05 18:32 digbysmum
- This is absolutely scandalous, but, I'm afraid to say, typical of the RSPCA (which is why I no longer support them because of cases like this). My thoughts are with Scamp's owner at this terribly sad time. Run free at the bridge dear little Scamp xx

- OMG This is shocking!! The vets AND the RSPCA in that area want naming and shaming. He probably was that old lady's life. And the RSPCA wonder why they get bad publicity!!
- 2011-01-05 17:51 DianeM
- This is terrible, poor Scamp was microchipped, my thoughts go out to Scamp's family, this never should have happened. Run free at the bridge little man xx

- Totally agree DD, Thoughts are with Scamps owners so very sad. Sweet dreams little one.xx

- Oh no, how awful. This needs investigating. Thoughts with Scamp's elderly owner at this sad time. Run free dear Scamp.x.

- Just had a text to say Scamp has been traced and sadly he has been put down. The RSPCA took him to a vet and owner is waiting for an explanation. Such a shame he couldn't have been with his mum at the end. RIP old fella.

- No photo available. I have called Woodgreen and Animal aid in Leicester and registered Scamp's details.

- Just called the lady who registered the dog on site. She is going to try and get a photo from the owner. Posters have been put up all around the area and dog is registered on 5 sites. Scamp is 12 years old and not very active.
