- Thanks for everyone's explanations - really pleased that these 2 are now safely back at home, let's hope chip details are updated and tags put on collars and the dogs don't wander off again as we don't want this scenario repeated

- So glad the dogs have been returned to the owners. In all of this it is the dogs that I care about the most.

- Well done Dilys on your part of finding these dogs and finally reuniting them with their owner. The important message here is, dog owners please remember to update your microchip details.

- The dogs have now been reunited with their owner. The fee was actually £152, which is payable to Newark and Sherwood District Council because the Halfway Home rescue centre take in dogs on behalf of the Dog Warden when out of hours. The council charge £70 per dog for the first day, followed by £6 per dog every day thereafter. When I took the dogs to the centre, every effort was made to trace the owner before the dogs were logged in, but after trying for an hour with no luck, the dogs had to be left there. If the dogs had a tag on them or if the microchip address had been updated to the current owner, I could have returned the dogs to their owner without the fee having to be paid. This just shows how important it is for owners to ensure that microchip details are kept up to date, and that their dogs have a collar and tag with a phone no. on it.

- Just had a message to say the owner of the 2 dogs has been found but Halfway Home rescue kennels want £176 release fee for 2 days. Owner cannot afford to pay so the dogs are staying at the kennelsLast edited: 2011-01-02 11:27:04 by AlisonH

- Just received call about these 2 dogs running lose in the centre of Newark. Am unable to get hold of dog warden. Finder is going to try and hold on to them but only has scarf to use as a lead. Dogs are friendly but begining to get spooked.
