- I was coming back home late afternoon today along the road back to Aldbourne, Wiltshire there was a little black whippet (i think it was a whippet, a very small head compared to her body is the first thing i noticed) running along the main road. I stopped and he/she stopped. It looked scared and as i gently whistled to see if he/she would come to me he/she ran across a field and then straight across another field. Running but not knowing where he/she was running to. There was NO owners around so it makes me think he/she may have been dumped or lost. If i could have caught him/her i would have taken him/her to the nearest vets to be scanned e.t.c. I can't stop thinking about the dog. Where it was running to is anyones guess as it is only fields around there. (And main roads!!!)I have looked on here under whippets and whippet cross, but no pictures look like the one i saw. It is quite frustrating as it could have belonged to someone on here. I have put this message on here as i don't really know where to put it. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Thanks for taking the time to look on here Sarah. I have copied your link to Jake and sent it to all my contacts in Outlook. If i sit and ponder upon it all for too long it gets to me sooooo much that i get real angry about it all and then i'm not a good person to be around. So not to be that way i just have her in my thoughts and just hope that luck is around the corner. Much luck to you and all who are involved with Jake. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Hi Jockette, i saw your msg on Molly's page! I know how you feel, i read your post about the only way of finding Lilly is by Microchip now! My Jake was stolen when he was four months old and i too feel that the only way we will ever find him now is via his microchip, as his markings have probably changed so much! I hope Lilly is found soon!!! Take Care. Jake 21.105 xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- I sometimes have these thoughts that she may only be down the road. Somewhere between Aldbourne and the Shepards Rest. Or she did actually go down a hole and that was it! So frustrating! If someone does have her why don't they just have her checked out at the vets and have her scanned! GOD! Why can't they all do that. Just a quick whizz over and that's it, back to where she belongs. I know that most of you think that, i'm just thinking aloud. Sweet kisses to you Lilly X X (who ever has you i hope that they are treating you well) Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- I called Miss R Diane Swales yesterday and she was quite helpful. She asked for details about Lilly and when i said that she was just a usual Black and Tan she added that it was actually Blue Back and they were not that common! (that was good to hear) She gave me a name and number of a Ms B Judge who is very very big in breeding BT's. So i will be calling her tomorrow. I'm not expecting a breakthrough but a call won't do no harm. She could put the feelers out maybe or i could send her some posters to put up or give out at her many shows that she goes to. Just never know eh! Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- BTW I meant that the police should investigate theft and suspected theft - I have no idea if they have scanners - of course they should do!- the RSPCA are there to investigate cruelty and health issues. Sadly stealing a dog is not always cruel (to the dog)! I know my girl could care less who fed her! I pray lilly is found. Love Naomi and my two BTs.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Do the police have scanners then? I would have thought it would be up to the RSPCA to do it or any other animal welfare authority. I don't know who ever should be doing it ..... isn't at these fairs. All i know is that the dogs i saw there belong to someone else. If you are a real doggie person... you just know that there is something not quite right with those dogs. Especially the ones that look so depressed and tied up with string! It don't take a Einstein to work it out. We walked past looking at the pitiful dogs and puppies knowing that there is someone out there looking for them. It was just heart breaking and very sad. - I have just read the yorkie story on the blue page...... i'm speechless! I have to agree that getting another dog (especially a puppy) would not be the most sensible thing to do. If they are adamant on getting another dog for the old lady then why not a old dog from a resue home that needs to spend the rest of their life spoilt and cuddled all day. Mind Boggles! - I have to add that i only saw a couple of inspectors there... not seven. Maybe there was but when i wanted them i couldn't find them. The one that i spoke to when i first got there (when asked if they had scanners on them) sort of had his barrier up. It's just a shame that there are so many crap laws, rules and regs, as those poor animals only have us to help them. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- I have finally received a letter from the R.S.P.C.A! Thankyou for your letter dated 12 May 2005 outlining your concern regarding the Stow Horse Fair. From the outset may i assure you that we too share many of your concerns regarding this event. On the day we had on duty seven inspectors who were working with the local Authority dog warden, Local Authority Licensing Officer, Gloucestershire Trading Standards Animal Health Officers, International League for the Protection of Horses and the Police. There was also a Veterinary surgeon present who inspected the event. With regards to your concerns about the sale of dogs and puppies, this a matter for the Local Authority to regulate and enforce. This year, both the Local Authority and the RSPCA Inspectorate visited the site the day before and during the event to issue warnings about the sale of dogs. This was done at the request of the RSPCA and is the first year the local Authority has done so proactively, only they have the power to take action in relation to the Pet Animals Act. I would urge you to make contact with them. (THIS IS THE BIT THAT GOT ME!!!) ---> With regard to scanning of all dogs on site, this is not a practical approach, and would create some health and safety issues for our officers. We always offer assistance to those whose dogs have gone missing, or have been stolen, but essentially stolen dogs are a matter for the Police to deal with. It would be incorrect to assume that all dogs at the Stow Fair have been stolen. If RSPCA officers detect an offence of cruelty, they will always take action appropriate to the situation. Unfortunately, you may be saddened to hear that the things going on at the Stow Fair that you feel are offences are, at this time, not so, and we find that as frustrating as you do. However, as a result of campaigning by the RSPCA, the law protecting animals could change this year to assist us in preventing cruelty before suffering occurs. - I'ts ROYAL ASCOT in a couple of weeks - event having been moved north to York. Races attract a lot of TRAVELLERS and we expect more around here at that time. Also with the event being further north than usual there will probably be more people coming down from the North East as its going to be nearer. (I live near York and I'm dreading it!!!). - Just to add that i watched Meridian news tonight and they were saying that this bank holiday weekend is the weekend that hell of a lot of Irish travellers come over to England........ Why?? I must have missed that bit. I'm intrigued! South East is the worst hit. Christchurch, Bornemouth, Poole, Dorset. They should be stopped at the borders!!!! Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- I know what your saying and i still do search on different websites. I think after going to Stow, that really dis- heartened me. It really made me think that it is that easy to steal - sell - to all over the country. The only thing that could get her back is her microchip. If the R.S.P.C.A at Stow are anything to go by then there is a just a very slim chance of being reunited. IF she has gone to a puppy farm then there is likely no chance of seeing her again. Hope who ever has her and all the other good for nothings rot in hell! What goes around, comes around! Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I know that might be of no comfort to you but he was traced through his micro chip so they do work. They are happy as ever and its like hed never been gone, bless him he even remembered his old name. - I have to say that after a while you do get a bit dis-heartened in the fact that she will probably never be back here again. I know that 'miracles happen' and 'you just never know' .... but! you do think if she had been a great dane or have really unusual markings or a unusual breed it would probably be easier to track her down. She is a normal, typical border terrier...... and there are thousands like her out there. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- I wouldn't call myself brave, but i didn't feel at all comfortable being there. The Travellers were there in droves!!! When we stood to take a good look at the dogs the people with them would take a good look at us! Very intimidating! I feel for the people that have to live there when these fairs take place. I bet they dread that time of year. I just felt that these people had no (and i mean no) respect for anything. Animals, possessions (unless of course it is thiers!) and by the look of of alot of them no respect for themselves. I've come to a conclusion that this goverment is really weak and feeble isn't it! Now we have another 5 years of it!!!!!!! Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Jockette, you are very brave going to a place like that, I dont think I could find the courage. In all honesty I have never had a good experience with the RSPCA. Sorry if I offend anyone here but their main priority is making money not saving animals. Well done again Jockette. Hope Lilly is ok wherever she is SharonxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Before i went i thought it wouldn't get to me as i have in the past seen quite alot of 'not so nice things' but i have to say, it did get to me and i have thought of nothing else since. Especially that little black dog. I just wish that i had gone back and got it. I think about that dog when i try and get to sleep at night. Wondering what happened to it. (And all the others of course!) I am waiting for a reply from the R.S.P.C.A. If it proves interesting reading i will post it on here. God bless Lillyx (and that little black dog)Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Jockette, I think you're very brave for going to the fair. It seems unbelievable that this could go on under the noses of the RSPCA. Exactly how much evidence do they need before they can act? They seem to be more interested in running their political campaigns. I dread to think what my have happened to my missing boy, and all the other missing ones too.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- I have added Lilly's info on all of our local community websites, in the end i had to write down all the websites she is on as i couldn't keep up with all. Now i have lost that paper! Most of them are in my address bar, so i haven't lost them all. My partner's mother is having her say to the R.S.P.C.A after what i had told her. She donates each month and was appalled by it all. - I'm not surprised you won't go to another,I couldn't take it either. I have had letter back from Tonypandy enviromental health after I complained about the fair there. They say an animal wefare officer will investigate but I shan't hold my breath, still waiting for response from rspca and the mayor ,told him I was cancelling Welsh hols this year as didn't want to subject my dogs to disease and illness from these disgusting places ,shall also write to tourist board. With regard to Lilly have you put her details on your local community forums ? worth a try if they are well used. xx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- I'm afraid i am not strong enough emotionally to go to another fair. I didn't eat anything that day.... i was so churned up with emotion. I can handle many things but cruelty and the sheer disrespect for animals in any shape or form is just to much for me. I just wanted to take them all away even if it was to give them to rescue centres. The so called Gypies/Travellers were just too intimidating and me having more to lose then them ar****les i just couldn't risk anything. So So frustrating! Have passports for dogs been suggested to the authorities at all. I'm sure it has.... has it? The bloke that had the red grizzle in the cage with the other two dogs said that he had it's papers. And that he was a ..... ready for this one..... a VET! Does he think we came off a banana boat yesterday! Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- These fairs are god awful places, and unfortunately Stow is one of the better ones being more high profile than the even worse ones (believe it or not!) held throughout Wales etc. Yet again it seems that this is yet another example of these travellers being above the law. The RSPCA are supposed to be protecting animals, this seems to apply to everyone except these scumbags. Well done Jockette for going, even though it was a horrid experience, I'll speak to various reporters that I have contact with and see if thet're interested into doing an expose - Appleby is coming up in June, and thats pretty nasty too. - that sounds awful ,sadly these kind of things go on all the time all over the country. Good for you complaining to rspca I have too but it will take many 1000 more to get anything done and most people just close their eyes and try not to think about it. While good men do nothing, evil men prosper. x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Went along to Stow horse fair on Thursday. Bloody awful! When i first arrived i asked the R.S.P.C.A inspector if they had scanners on them to which he replied 'yes, in the vans' (What use is that when their vans were nowhere near them) I saw a little black dog being smacked and hit by a kid of no older than 5/6! Went to find Inspector and they were no where to be seen. There were dogs tied up with strings waiting to be sold. A red grizzle was in the back of a white van apparantly aged around 3yrs old. Along with a black lurcher type and another, IN ONE MEDIUM SIZED CAGE!!!!! . Couldn't get too near as there were intimidating men around (protecting i guess) Another cage in front of a caravan had puppies in it looking like they should still be with thier mum! There was a black/white/other colours in it cavalier type tied up with string looked like it was quite young. Another was a light brown lurcher type looking very sad and very quiet. Well the list goes on and on. The last thing i saw before i just had to go (as i was quite upset by this time) was two border collies (i'll get back to you all on that one as i know for a fact one of them was a collie) that were bought by a woman and her husband for ?150. As she picked the collie up it squirted poo and pee all over the place through sheer fear. We walked up with her and she said that it's absolutly disgusting how these dogs are treated and that she goes to these places to pick up the most abused and distressed ones then takes them home makes sure they are fit enough all round for rehoming... which yes is great in some ways but unfortunatly it's like feeding the fire isn't it! I told her about the little doggie i saw being abused and she said to her son to stay in the car.... i think she might have been going back to rescue it.... i hope! I have to add that i will never ever be attending one of these so called fairs again. As for the R.S.P.C.A i have written a strong letter to them detailLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Don't, just don't. I am horrified, and there are campaigns for the moon bears in other countries and our own country is treating animals like this. Where are the rspca whilst all this is going on, don't people pay vast sums to this charity for them to stop cruelty like this from going on? I suppose someones' rights will be violated if they go in there!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- No Calls, No leads..... nowt! Earlier i emailed the Northern Ireland vets with posters and most of them came back to me! Don't know what happened there? I am now going to try and email most of the ones in Wales out of the Vet directory. That may take a little longer as there are so so many. When i have done that Candy, i will pass the directory onto you. I was sufing the net the other night about Puppy Farms........ ASTONISHING!!!!!! The Welsh Assembly are wanting to fund these farms?????? I just can not believe that they are in operation. There was one bitch on there (looked like a poodle) she has had... ready for this....... 22 sets of puppies!!!!!!!! I can't get my head around this. She was in squaler and her and her puppies bed was a small sqaure box with very little straw on it... It was dark with only a little dim light above them. What is country coming to???Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Jockette, try enlisting the help of 'rough looking types' in the area who might like to earn themselves the reward money. They won't be as scared of these low lifes as the authorities are. As long as you don't look 'official' or 'threatening' you may be surprised. I talked to 3 guys who, to be honest i normally would of crossed the street to avoid (being all of 5ft nothing!) and they were great, had dogs themselves, and said they'd kill anyone who tried to take their animals. If you find people who are out of work types (plenty of spare time and not a lot of cash), they may be willing to put in the hours and have the muscle to get some results. Best of luck, Caroline xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

She was bought in memory of my daughter who died a few years ago and she was going to be the last dog i was going to have.
