This is so sad, Run Free Lovely Boy! xx
------------------------------------------
Weep not for me though I am gone
Into that gentle night
Grieve if you will, but not for long
Upon my soul's sweet flight.
I am at peace, my soul's at rest
There is no need for tears.
For with your love I was so blessed
For all those many years.
There is no pain, I suffer not,
The fear now all is gone.
Put now these things out of your thoughts,
In your memory I live on.
Remember not my fight for breath
Remember not the strife
Please do not dwell upon my death,
But celebrate my life.

Bess 'n' Barney's Mum
So very sorry that it was this lovely boy on the A31 and such a shame owners had to wait so long for confirmation. At least now there is closure. Sleep tight, dear Spider xx

Thank you to everyone who has been helping in the search for Spider. Unfortunately the Highways Agency traced the record of an RTC on the night Spider went missing. They still had his body at the depot so the owner now has closure and the chance to say goodbye.
Suziewoo
Everything crossed that you have some good news. I keep checking the page to see if there has been an update. The gorgeous Spider needs to be back home where he is obviously much loved.xx
esmerelda
I still have had no confirmation that this was Spider. Never the less whether it is Spider or not, the brindle lurcher running around Cranborne Chase still needs to be found. Someone called me today and had seen him heading from the village Farnham heading towards Minchington. She went back to see if she could see him agian and took some food with her, i presume she had no luck as she hasn't contacted me to let me know otherwise.
Thank you for all so much for your help and support.
dinkydoodle
I really hope the animal on the A31 is not Spider. Please keep on with the highways agency, I spoke with a very unhelpful operator this week, called again the next morning and spoke with a very helpful one - they did both assure me that they do scan any animals they pick up though. I also emailed them and received a call today following up my enquiry so it does pay to persevere with them. Fingers crossed the most recent sighting is of Spider.
DogLostPoochpal - Regional Co-ordinator - South West - Police Liaison Team
Thank you Christchurch D W, owner and myself have both spoken to Nikki and Spider was reported missing to her right at the begining. We are still waiting to hear back from the Highways Agency who were going to search there archives back to the day he went missing.
Just to confuse things further owner has had a call again today reporting a sighting of the brindle lurcher north of Sixpenny Handley which if this is the one sighted on the Cranborne Chase he seems to be heading for a farm where Spider has spent his last 4 summers!!!!
Dog WardenChristchurch Dog Warden
Has anyone contacted Nikki the Dog Warden at New Forest District Council? Highways should contact the Dog Warden to scan any cats and dogs to see if microchipped before disposing of bodies. NFDC phone number is 02380285446. I really hope it isnt Spider.
Suziewoo
So sad to read this and really hope it wasn't him & that maybe it was a deer. I hope that the highways people can provide more details. Everything crossed that he is still out there.xx
DogLostPoochpal - Regional Co-ordinator - South West - Police Liaison Team
For all of you who are following this thread I'm afraid we may have bad news. The owner had a call yesterday from a person who had to swerve around the body of a brown dog on the A31 near to where Spider went missing. He telephoned the police to report this and while on the phone a highways van arrived to remove the body. This happened at the time Spider went missing. The owner is still trying to find out more, the police do not have a record of this incident and the highways say that if it had been him they would have contacted her. I will not move Spider over to reunited untill we have confirmation but wanted to update the situation.

Thankyou Labradorloopy,I will pass this on to the owner.

Hi, I live not far from you in West Moors. I've seen lots of your posters around Ringwood. If you're going to organise a co-ordinated search or want small flyers handing out at the weekend, post on here and I'll be very happy to help.
DogLostPoochpal - Regional Co-ordinator - South West - Police Liaison Team
Sighting reported again, this time he was seen 5pm on Sunday at Bishopstone, he looked scared and had a limp.
DogLostPoochpal - Regional Co-ordinator - South West - Police Liaison Team
Thank you Jess & Folly for your posts, the owner can be contacted on the number in the description box and I am sure she would like to hear from you if you would like to give her a call, she does not have internet access herself. I will pass on your messages tomorrow.
Jess
My husband is going over to sixpenny handley tomorrow & I will ask him to leave a poster with his uncle who owns handley garage just in case.
DogLostPoochpal - Regional Co-ordinator - South West - Police Liaison Team
More sightings today back in the original area, this tme near Bashley & Wotton. Owner thinks this is more likely to be Spider and that there is probable another brindle lurcher running loose in the Cranbourne Chase area.
Folly
I have friends who run a business in Burley so asked them about the reported dead dog on the road but they had heard nothing.Let's hope the reported sightings are of Spider. I live in West Moors and can be called on to help searching, following up leads, etc so his owner can ring me if she needs some help.01202 855097 Sandy

Thanks Jayne. I spoke to Esmerelda this morning, she has again spent the whole weekend travelling round searching for Spider and postering the new area in the hope that she will be alerted to sightings as soon as they happen rather than a day later. It is a month now that Spider has been running loose.

Bumped due to latest sighting and requested email alerts for Sixpenny Handley area. Come on Spider, stay still long enough to be found.
DogLostPoochpal - Regional Co-ordinator - South West - Police Liaison Team
Another sighting of a brindle lurcher in the Sixpenny Handley area which the owner is following up. This is the second one in that area which is not the same direction Spider was thoght to be traveling but could match up with the Alderholt sighting. If the person who reported this sighting to the owner is reading this please could you call again as she has accidentally deleted your number.
DogLostPoochpal - Regional Co-ordinator - South West - Police Liaison Team
Owner is relieved that this one was not Spider, she thinks it could even be a goat or small foal and has been there a while so will be atracting any stay dogs in the area. Still trying to find out more about thr repoted dog killed on the nearby road but as it is the weekend this is proving difficult. If anyone reading this has any more information please phone.

Another report in today of a brindle dog being found dead between Winkton and Sopley...exact location given and owner has been to check. NOT SPIDER! not even sure because of condition if its a dog.
Caroline
Thank you WSS. Spider's owner has gone out tonight to follow that up. Worryingly, there was a report of a dog laying dead on the Burley road at 5pm last night. She searched all the roads into Burley for the body, but I don't think took the road as far down as Winkton. She is going to search that stretch now after checking Sopley. Thank you so much to all who have helped. I pray that she doesn't find Spider dead tonight. It's very worrying :(
WSS
We were driving through Sopley Thursday 10th March just after 12.30 lunchtime and saw a dog matching Spider's description on its own near the Woolpack pub going in the direction of the cottage callled Smugglers near the Bransgore turning. Have only just read about him in the Lymington Times or would have reported it earlier. Godd luck in your search. WSS

More sightings of Spider and he has moved in a large triangle. He was seen in Alderholtat about 2am yesterday, still looking fit and healthy. He is in New Forest news papers now. Please can everyone phone or text the owner with any more sightings.

Hi Esmerelda, Thanks for your e-mail, i just wanted to confirm that i have not picked up or recieved any reports of a dog like spider being found/seen in West Dorset. Obviously should i hear of anything i will let you know immediatley. Fingers crossed and best wishes.
esmerelda
Hi Poochpal, I have sent you an email. i'll try and email admin as would like to print off some posters cash reward while i'm near a computer. Thanks
DogLostPoochpal - Regional Co-ordinator - South West - Police Liaison Team
Hi Esmerelda, you can email a new photo to admin@doglost.co.uk and ask for the new one to e put on the poster and original as an extra, dont forget to add Spider's id number to the email. Left a message on your mobile for you to call me. I am bumping him due to the possible sightings.
esmerelda
Thanks supergabs x

Have posted Spider's details on the GLWR forum. Come home soon lad. Hugs to Esmerelda xx
esmerelda
No i don't unfortunately but he could be anywhere by now if he's been stolen. Someone else thought they may have seen him in Boscombe in Bounemouth. He does have brothers and a son in that area though. There are plenty of eyes looking out for him there. Is it possible for me to put up another photo showing the shape of his body better? Also thought of a distinguishing mark he has, it's like an extra nipple (skin tag) it's alot larger than the rest (raisin size) on his rib cage on left side. Thanks again to everyone for your kindness.

That's OK Esmerelda, don't worry about the post. Good to see you on here, do you know of any one in the area at the time Spider went missing who may now be in South Devon?
esmerelda
Sorry poochpal think i just accidently reported you! Like i said not very computer literate.
esmerelda
Hi i'm Spiders owner i am sorry i haven't been able to say thank you to people for their help till now i'm not very computer literate. Sadly Spider is still missing but i haven't given up hope i have spread the search further and emailed probably every dog warden in the country and loads of posters. i've been advised to try and get something written up in local papers so trying to sort that now. Thank you again to everyone. Houndella yes he is big his mother was a staffy x lab, so he's a chunky lurcher with a squarer nose. from floor to shoulder i'd say 70cm. which town was it you thought you may have seen spider? if you see dog again maybe try find out if boy or girl. My boy has white under his chin and a white bib on chest with white toes (more on back feet than the front feet. i hope he comes home soon i miss him so, so much. Hi, is Spider a very large lurcher? Please sadly note that it's probably a very long shot but I noticed today a huge lurcher type dog whilst in town.(not seen him or (could be her)before.
Am in South Devon.
Hope your boy is safe and back home where he belongs very soon.
Bickton
Not sure if the owner walks in Ringwood Forest, but it is quite cloise to where Spyder went missing and there is plenty of food, water and cover there. I walked my dogs there for a couple of hours yesterday - it might be an idea for the owner to put up a couple of posters by where the cars are parked. I've run out of coloured ink cartridge otherwise I'd do it. myself, but if owner can't do it, I'll get some and do it
DogLostPoochpal - Regional Co-ordinator - South West - Police Liaison Team
Thanks both of you for offers to look out for Spider, he went missing from the back of Waitrose by the Avon Canal. I know the pwner would apreciate all the help she can get as she does not have internet access all the time.
Bickton
Yes plese can we have more details - I will walk my dogs this afternoon and could go into the area if I knew where he was lost.
Bess 'n' Barney's Mum
Do we know if Spider went from home, or was he out on a walk? Any details about where he was when he went missing would be useful as we can walk in that specific area if we know where. He looks a lovely boy, stay safe Spider.
