Only just got a chance to post on here after the weekend. I didn't really do anything but after a bizarre chain of events and a chat with a random guy in the vets when i was dropping Rufus's poster in, he suggested i drop a poster in to a recovery yard near to where he had been spotted the day before. I couldn't find the recovery yard but did find a tarmac resurfacing yard so i popped in with a poster anyway - when i spoke to the (very helpful) guys there they said that Rufus had been there 5 minutes before! There was no sign of him so i phoned his owners who were just up the road searching for him. I set off in the direction he disappeared in and literally two minutes later had a phone call to say that he'd been caught. They brought him to meet me - what a lovely boy and seemed no worse for his five days on the run. Hopefully he'll stay safe now.

Thats great there has been a sighting - i know where that is so will start my search there later seeing as that is where he has been sighted. I'll have a look at the map and see what public footpaths i can find over there. I was going to go the other way as i assumed he'd have gone into the area of Wilderness Woods. Do you think the people at the farm could leave some food down for him to at least establish a feeding pattern and to try to keep him in that area to save him crossing back over the A267? It must be so frustrating as he is so close to home!

I would like to say a big thank you to all that are helping find him, it means the world to us.

I have an update
DogLostZoe - Area Volunteer - East Sussex
Julie - Park Wood would be a good idea if you can get over there then i can concentrate on the Waldron/East Hoathley/Blackboys area either later or tomorrow. I know he probably won't have gone as far as Park Wood but think that anywhere that attracts a lot of dog walkers (which Park Wood does) is a good idea then at least they are aware. I will also do the Cuckoo Trail at Horam. I emailed the vets at Horsebridge & also Tim Couzens @ East Hoathley this morning too. Also emailed Raystede a poster. I will drop poster into Brown & Nuttal and also Downwoods in Horam. My plan is to walk some of the public footpaths later behind where Rufus went missing as a start although i do feel if he is that close to home then he would be back in the comfort of his own home by now! Its just trying to guess which direction he might have gone in but have looked at the local map so am going to try the more wooded areas as i have a feeling thats the way my own dog would have gone, especially if he'd been chasing something! "Chamar" - is the wood you walked in behind the little church on Little London? If so, did you put a poster up? It not, i'll poster that as well.
Pointerlady
Abbots Wood main entrance covered this morning. Would Park Wood car park near to Hellingly Hospital need posters as Park Wood Road runs all the way to Horebeech Lane at Horam? I can do this late this afternoon. Julie

Went out for long walk this morning in woods between little London and Horam on the eastern side of the A267. Sadly no sitings here but will look when I go out later.Last edited: 2011-03-04 10:39:16 by chamar

I have phoned the number on the poster this morning and spoken to someone who works for Rufus's owner. Rufus went missing from between Cross in Hand and Blackboys on the Lewes Road. Although this is quite a rural area, it is surrounded by three busy-ish roads. I would say that the areas that need to be covered initially are Heathfield, Cross in Hand, Horam, Uckfield, Mayfield, Five Ashes, Waldron & Blackboys. I am going to try to get a few posters up either this afternoon after work or tomorrow. There has apparently been no sightings - i can't believe that a dog like this just disappears off the face of the earth :-( I did give a few suggestions of places to poster as i am not sure if they come on here or not. I do wonder if he may have gone off after a deer as i know they are prominent in that area.Last edited: 2011-03-04 10:22:53 by Zoe - Area Volunteer - East Sussex

I shall do the main entrance to Abbots Wood today. Hope this helps but maybe a little too far from where he went missing.
doglady
I will put posters up at Abbots Wood a lot of dog walkers there. I will poster the entrance Via Post house Lane so if anyone can poster the other side of the woods that would help.

Will cross post Rufus to BIGGSD.

I saw a dog that look remarkably similar walking along A271 Hailsham on Tuesday. did a double look as I was driving past and thought what a beautiful dog (I love GSD's) and thought I wonder what it is crossed with. A woman was walking it - it was around 7.45am. Sorry, can't be more helpful. It may not be Rufus, just a similar looking dog, but thought I had better mention it?

As a short term measure, i'll take a poster up to Isenhurst Gym at Cross in Hand when i go later - i don't have a colour printer so it will have to be in black & white. I'll also put a couple up on the Cuckoo Trail when i walk later. If Rufus has not turned up by tomorrow, i'll try to get a few posters up in the local area after work. I have sent an email to Kit Wilson Trust. Can you just tell me which part of Cross in Hand Rufus went missing from please?
AlisonH
Have just spoken with the owner. Rufus was let out as usual and when they went to get him in a short while later he had wandered off. Dog wardens, vets and rescue centres have all been contacted and posters have been put up locally. Photo is being sent so that email alerts can be sent out.

This is my area as i live in Horam. Do they have a picture or had they only just got him? I'll email out his details just in case anyone sees him. Have they contacted Gloria the dogwarden yet? Her number is 07985 811944 - she is exceptionally helpful and will do what she can. Might be worth postering Windmill Feeds in Cross in Hand, SCATS in Heathfield amongst other places. Also the various vets in heathfield, Horam, Horsebridge, East Hoathley & Uckfield. I hope that Rufus turns up safe and well.
