Julia, dogs know how much you love them - you never need to say it. I think Cody must have gone to heaven on her own because she could not have gone if she had been with you - it would have been too hard to leave you. She probably knew it was her time and she felt happy and at peace knowing she was so well loved. She knows, Julia. Never doubt it. She is still loving you - and always will - I promise you! Kim x

Thank you for your lovely comments. I just wish I could stop crying. We went to the woods yesterday and planted daffodils and have a bought a magnolia tree to plant in her memory.
Sarah - Cody came from Hersham, I rehomed her in 2004. I know Denise very well and we have visited many times. I have told Denise the sad news. Her race name was Miccosuki Mist. SHe is here on the Greyhound Data website:

Hi Julia, there are some lovely comments on here, and from the moment I posted the news on facebook and the hound lounge people have been posting messages of sympathy. You and Cody are in many people's thoughts. I hope this helps in some small way. I think greyhounds, more than any other breed, know what it is to be loved. Before we take them into our homes and hearts they have only ever known a life in racing kennels where they are a commodity. So they truly know they are loved because they know what it is like not to loved. Cody will have known how much you loved her and would want you to remember her with a smile on your lips. Take care, look after yourself and Ellie, we also have lots of hounds just waiting for a hug so you know where we all are if you need us. Carol

Hi Julia, i dont know you personally but i have been following this thread i am very sorry for your loss, but Cody obviously had a very loving and special home. I dont know if she ever spent any holidays at the kennels where i work in Hersham. If in a couple of weeks you are not feeling so raw please feel welcome to come to the kennels to spend some time and maybe take some of our lovley boys and girls for a walk some people say it does help with the healing process, we are on the website hersham hounds if you google that directions will be on the website, thinking of you at this sad time

Whoever said that Julia said it so beautifully and were so right. It sounds like someone very spiritual. I met Cody and would never have thought she was anything other than calm and content. I hope hearing this helped. Tuula x

I was upset that I never got to tell Cody how much I loved her during her last moments and would she know how much we loved her? I've just been told: ... " Oh dear Julia,
Love is not just given in the one moment before she passes on, you have given her love from the moment she entered your home all those years ago. Cody was a timid, scared dog that would shake with nerves every time you would pass by her, she was a transformed dog a year after you took her on. After many years of love from both you and Rick, she changed to a confident, strong dog, that appeared happy and content. Cody had the strength and love to die in piece after a great walk with you and Ellie. This is true love Julia. x "
JuliaBicker
thank you all for your kind words. We took Cody to Dignity yesterday, a lovely pet crematorium and she has now been laid to rest. We said our goodbyes and sent her on her journey with some of her favourite treats, flowers and a letter to let her know how we loved her. I’m heartbroken that our beautiful girl has been taken. Sleep tight and god bless. We’ll never forget you or stop loving you xxxxx

What a sad, sad day - run free beautiful girl. At Rainbow Bridge you can run and run and run!
-----------------------------------------------------

When tomorrow starts without me and I'm not there to see;
The sun will rise and find your eyes, all filled with tears for me.
I wish so much you wouldn't cry, the way you did today,
Remembering how I'd lay my head, In your lap that special way.
I know how much you love me, as much as I love you.
And each time that you think of me, I know you'll miss me too.

But when tomorrow starts without me, please try to understand,
That an angel came and called my name, and petted me with her hand.
She said my place was ready in Heaven far above,
And that I'd have to leave behind all those I dearly love.
But, as I turned to heel away, a tear fell from my eye,
For all my life I never thought, that I would have to die.
I had so much to live for, so many sits and downs to do,
It seemed almost impossible, that I was leaving you.
I thought about our lives together, I know you must be sad,
I thought of all the love we shared, and all the fun we had.

Remember how I'd nudge your hand, and poke you with my nose?
The frisbee I would gladly chase, the bad guy, I'd "bark and hold".
If I could relive yesterday, just even for awhile,
I'd wag my tail and kiss you, just so I could see you smile.
But then I fully realized, that this could never be;
For emptiness and memories, will take the place of me.

And when I thought of treats and toys, I might miss come tomorrow,
I thought of you and when I did, my dog-heart filled with sorrow.
But then I walked through Heaven's gate, and felt so much at home;
As God looked down and smiled at me, from His beautiful golden throne.
He said, "This is eternity, And now we welcome you,
Today your life on earth is past, But here it starts anew.
I promise no tomorrow, but today will always last;
For you see, each day’s the same day, there's no longing for the past.
Now you have been so faithful, so trusting, loyal and true;
Though there were times you did things, you knew you shouldn't do.
But good dogs are forgiven, and now at last you're free;
So won't you sit here by my side, and wait right here with me?"
So when tomorrow starts without me, don't think we're far apart.
For every time you think of me, I'm right there, in your heart.

On behalf of Julia - Cody has gone to the Rainbow Bridge to run with her brother Jake. She was found in the woods not far from where she disappeared. They think she went off to die or perhaps a heart attack - as if she just laid down and went to sleep. I know everyone cared and those who were local helped in the search. I know Julia is grateful.
BonBon
Julia - I am so very sorry to read this sad news. I was so hoping for a happy outcome. My heart goes out to you and your family. I know only too well what it is like to lose a furry family member. Run free Cody and have fun at the bridge, knowing you were loved so much. Carole x

Hi Julia, just wondered whether there were any posters up at The Meadows Shopping Centre, Sandhurst/Camberley where the big M&S and Tescos are. I know people travel from quite a wide area to visit the M&S store there as it is a very large shop so might be worth a go? Only too pleased to help, would do anything to get Cody back home with you where she belongs. Carol

Sorry, pressed "report this" instead of "edit". Can the post be reinstated please?

thanks Carol. Yes it's unbelievable that there have been no sightings. thanks again for all you're doing. Today I refreshed some posters at the Lookout and put some up at Lily Hill Park. I also updated the poster at Morrisons. I have a friend in Bracknell who is a dog walker and she obviously gets around a bit and says there are posters everywhere from people who have been downloaded them so her face is out there.Last edited: 2011-03-18 19:50:49 by Angus

Hi Julia, sorry Emma has not been in touch. I was hoping there would be something in the Wokingham Times this week, but have e-mailed Vicky there to say Cody is still missing and we'd appreciate any publicity they could give. Hopefully Emma from the Bracknell paper will be in touch. I was saying this morning it's amazing how many dogs go missing. I also e-mailed the Traveller Liaison Officer for Wokingham Council just to make her aware of Cody but got an out of office reply, she's back in on Monday. I can't believe Cody hasn't been seen at all. I'll keep pestering the local papers, hopefully they will run something. Carol
JuliaBicker
Hi Carol. No have not heard from Emma. Cody is now on the 3rd page, it's unbelievable how many dogs go missing. Until it happens to you, you don't realise. Still not one call of a sighting :-(
coxy55
Hi Julia, I'm hoping the Wokingham Times will run something on Cody. Did you get a call from Emma at the Bracknell paper? She asked me for your details so I passed them on to her, hope that was ok? Have put posters up in Coombs area yesterday. I was down at our livery yard just off Easthampstead Road yesterday afternoon and everyone was asking about Cody, they are all still keeping a look out. They hack out in Gorrick Woods of Heathlands Road, so always on the lookout. She's got to be out there somewhere, so keep hoping, I know it must be so difficult for you but we are doing all we can.
JuliaBicker
Called network rail yesterday and spoke to a very nice lady who made some calls for me but nothing reported. I went to a garden centre in Windsor and left them a leaflet. I also refreshed a few local leaflets. Animal Search sent me a list of all dog wardens and rescues they have contacted and they have also contacted those in other counties now. My little BC is starting to feel the loss now, she whined at me when I got home yesterday :-( Without sightings, I just don't know what direction to go. I'm going to see my mum this afernoon (surrey way) so will stop off and walk Ellie in Bushy Park and put up a poster there.
Carol - do you think the Wokingham Times will still run the article?
Unknown
Don't mean to hog Cody's thread but I read of a gray greyhound up in nottingham that has been hanging in woods for a couple of weeks and cannot be caught , it is wearing a yellow collar. local farmer says he is going to shoot it if it causes any problems to livestock, none there at present. Just thought if anyone knows of a missing gray one.
JuliaBicker
Saza - thank you. Bonbon - yes posters up at the Look out/Swinley Forest. I don't know Ryslip Kennels but will find them and drop off a poster. Am going to do some more leaflet distribution at Tesco Wokingham car park.
BonBon
Julia - I am still somewhat housebound with my dog but have been following Cody's page and hoping for good news. Have you put posters up at The Lookout and Swinley Forest? Both areas are very popular with dog walkers. Also Ryslip Kennels in Binfield might be a good idea. Keeping everything crossed for good news soon. Carole x
Saza
Took posters into vets and RSPCA shop in Bagshot today.
coxy55
Hi Julia, sorry I was at a family christening down in Hayling Island yesterday so didn't manage to do a post. I distributed all my leaflets in the council car park at Shute End, which is free to the public on Saturdays. Today I've put a poster up in Sainsburys Winnersh and walked my lot in Ambarrow Court, which backs onto Wellington College, and have put up four Dog Lost posters. Will maybe walk in The Coombs off Bearwood Road, Wokingham tomorrow pm and poster there. Will also go to Kynoch vets in Wokingham to drop one off. Did you put anything up in Tescos, Wokingham? Also one up in Newbury Building Society in Wokingham. Will try and get one up in Morrisons on Woosehill as I had run out of leaflets by the time I'd done the council on Saturday. Fingers crossed.Last edited: 2011-03-14 16:57:54 by coxy55
JuliaBicker
Thanks Tuula - I appreciate you coming over and distributing for me.
Saza - yes she went missing in the woods where the kennels are (they are privately owned) and I have spoken with the man who owns the woodlands (and kennels) and he regularly walks around here but if Cody lost co-ordination then she could've easily crossed the road to onto the Easthampstead side (this side I have walked thoroughly too). My husband was home this week and he took our BC running through the woods again and over by Easthampstead Park but nothing.
Met with Coxy55 and she kindly took some leaflets from me and at the weekend I did a big leaflet distribution in Waitrose Wokingham car park. Yesterday I drove through Arborfield/Binfield and put up posters near schools/parks. I had no idea where I was but at least her picture is out there.Last edited: 2011-03-14 08:51:21 by JuliaBicker
Saza
Saw the new posters. Spoke to a man near caravan store area and he knew about the search for Cody. Did she go missing on the side of the road the kennels were on , or Easthamstead park side?
tuulip
Julia, I have put posters up in the Dobbie Garden Centre and someone had already done Henry Street. Will put one up in the pub tonight and do the vets and Reading Pets at Home tomorrow. Plus an ad on Reading gumtree. Thought of getreading, getbracknell and getwokingham too.
Hugs Tuula x
JuliaBicker
Hi Saza - yes I think I know the area you are talking about. There are some industrial units/businesses which operate near the kennels but we have been into these and told the workmen there and have had a good look around. I left leaflets with them too. My leaflets arrived yesterday from animalsearch so did a big leaflet drop in Waitrose carpark yesterday, plus I have some A4 laminate posters which are also going up.
Saza
So sorry to see that cody is still missing. I don't know the area but have looked on google maps and they show lots of things that look like containers/trucks. Do you think there is any chance she got into any of them? I know you walked around the woods where she went missing, but are there any areas she may have accessed that you couldn't. Am heading over that way today so will try and have a look around. Sorry if its going over what you have already done, but really feel for you and would love to help find her for you.
coxy55
Do you want me to distribute some posters for you. I could meet you somewhere to collect some, Waitrose if you want or anywhere I don't mind. My number in case you haven't still got it is: 07763 283842 or 01189 794527. I can understand you having to put her things away must be very painful but we're not giving up yet, she's out there somewhere we've just got to find her! Carol
JuliaBicker
CJ - yes I saw that post too about a greyhound in Hastings but it was not Cody and they dog in question is back with it's owners (some good news). Carol - I am now going through my insurance and using Animal Search to produce 300+ leaflets and some posters which will now advertise a reward. These leaflets will have 3 pictures of Cody, plus an 0800 number so that may help. Am expecting delivery of these tomorrow morning so I will go out and distribute some more. I was thinking of Waitrose car park - leaving them on cars. I have had to put away all her things for now. It's too painful to have beds/coats lying around :-(. Oh dear, I'm crying again. I'm so grateful for everything that's being done to help me.
coxy55
Hi just a thought meant to mention before but forgot. Have you considered offering a reward, in some ways it goes against my instincts to suggest it, but if someone has got her it might just make them think about getting in contact.
DogLostCJ - Police Liaison & SE Regional Coordinator
have sent email to owner with deatils of found greyhound by animal wardens in hastings worth checking out. CJ
coxy55
Hi Julia, I'm not surprised you're in tears everyday, it's breaking my heart thinking about Cody and I've never met her. I just have such a love of greyhounds. At least you've explored every avenue possible and I think the way to getting her back is publicity, the more people know about her the better. Then if she appears anywhere you can be reunited. I still think most people out there, especially dog ones, are good and decent people and will help you in getting her home. Just got to keeping hoping. Carol
JuliaBicker
I am now in email contact with the dog warden of Wokingham. She has sent the details to 40 other wardens and is today meeting up with the DW in Windsor, she has also put a poster up in her van. Most of the rescues in other counties have replied to say they will hold me details just in case she is far afield. Animal Search are now going to print leaflets/posters for me through my insurance.
JuliaBicker
Carol - will register details with those websites your recommended.
JuliaBicker
Hi Carol. thank you so much, I'm extremely grateful. I even had a dream last night that we had found her - in London. That of course made me feel even sadder when I woke up. I went back to Chobham yesterday but nothing. I also went to RSPCA in Chobham too. Have registered her also on greyhoundgap website and have informed 2 greyhound rescue centres, not local to me but you never know. yesterday I emailed lots of rescues in other counties, just in case as you never know - most have replied which is nice. I will keep up with the posters this weekend and put some more up on any dog walking areas I see. I cry every day, I feel so sad.

If you could just keep an eye out when you're out walking and driving about, that's much appreciated.
coxy55
Sorry me again. Couple more websites it might be worth adding Cody too, don't like to do it myself as it obviously needs your personal details. DforDog.co.uk pawtrax.co.uk and alfieslostdogs.com Got to be worth a try.
coxy55
Right, I've e-mailed the Wokingham Times, Bracknell News, Heart FM and BBC Radio Berkshire. Have heard back from Wokingham Times, they did an article on my hounds and me last year appealing for homes, they are happy to help, so have send them a copy of Cody's poster. I will put poster up tomorrow morning when I do my kennel duty at our rescue kennels. They are in Fleet, Hampshire but I just feel the more people are aware of her the greater the chances of finding Cody. Thinking of you. Carol
coxy55
Hi Julia, I feel so much for you, it's the first I think about when I wake up in the morning, just wish I could magic her up for you. I have e-mailed the local press, so fingers crossed. I too am at work in the mornings and can't access any of the local radio stations as access is blocked by my organisation, so will do that this afternoon from home. If you want me to help you search anywhere at all, either with you or cover a separate area, I would be only too willing. Please don't give up hope, she's out there somewhere, we've just got to keep searching and keep her profile high. Carol
JuliaBicker
Hi Coxy55 - I would be so grateful if you could do that for me. I work mornings and am currently spending my afternoons searching. I haven't done anything else but look for Cody as I feel I have to be out there looking. It's a week today :-(
coxy55
Just wondering if it would be worth contacting the local media and asking them to put an appeal out. Maybe Heart FM, Bracknell and Wokingham newspapers? I'm quite happy to do it if you want.
JuliaBicker
Went into Wokingham town centre yesterday and put some posters up. Went to the mobile home parks too and gave them details. I am today heading over to Chobham Common. I want to venture out of the area now as I feel she is not local anymore. Plus it will give me a chance to put some posters up there.
coxy55
Have put a poster up in Kynoch Vets, Crowthorne and my vets, St Vincents. Have one in the back of my car too. Come on Cody everyone wants you back home safely.
JuliaBicker
Have now added her to lost-doggies and animalsearch websites. I will go to the mobile home parks too. Cody has never used her scent to find her way out of a situation, she's more of a visual dog so that's the worry, she never sniffs the ground. If she sees me then she comes to me. That's the concern, she has got out of sight and therefore probably wandered off in the wrong direction. Thing is out of the woods are 2 roads - old wokingham and easthampstead roads. I cycled down both of these roads yesterday and there are no pavements which is why I wonder if she's been picked up. She wouldn't trot along a road.
BonBon
So sad that you haven't had any news yet. If you haven't already, definitely follow Beezle's suggestion about the mobile home parks, which I also previously mentioned. I have received the Dogwatch alert, so the word is spreading far and wide. Just sorry I can't physically get out and help at the moment. Have you been given any scenting information? If not, do contact DL HQ and ask for info to be sent to you as this has helped on so many occcasions. Cody's poster is displayed at Moor Cottage in the dog area so will be seen by many. Carole
coxy55
I know it's a long shot but you mentioned you'd moved fairly recently, is it worth contacting some of your old neighbours just in case Cody's tried to make her way back. Have you looked at the www.animalsearchuk.co.uk website, they seem to be quite a large organisation, might be worth putting Cody on there too?
DogLostBeezle
If not already done put posters outside the two mobile home parks on Old Wokingham Road. They may have seen something.
coxy55
I feel so helpless. I have a 12 1/2 year old girl so fully understand how you feel. You mustn't give up hope though, dogs are found and reunited, just got to keep believing it's going to happen. The more people know about her the better, so we've just got to keep postering and telling people. My daugher-in-law works at an equine vets and they all know about her and they're out and about all over the area. If you need any help practical or moral please please contact me at anytime. Last edited: 2011-03-07 20:55:11 by coxy55
JuliaBicker
Just to add that on Saturday the 3 of us searched the woods thoroughly and the deeper we went, we would come across fences which she wouldn't have tackled herself so where did she go? I also managed to get over to the bank on the rail line but couldn't see anything.
JuliaBicker
Thank you so much coxy55 and Saza for putting those posters up. I was going to do that on Tuesday. Today I did a leaflet drop on some of the surrounding houses and then cycled my way around the roads dropping off leaflets to properties and putting up posters. The more I show the picture of Cody and speak to people, the more I am worried she has been taken. I will ring the RSPCA in Chobham although I did register her missing on the RSPCA website so I wasn't sure if it was circulated? I couldn't get through on the phone line. I also called a couple more vets. I called Binfield Rescue but they didn't seem interested in taking my details. Apparently if people bring in strays they tell them to contact the dog warden. I'm so upset that she's gone and possibly with someone who's not looking after her. She doesn't deserve this at her age.
coxy55
I've put a poster up in Pets At Home, Wokingham. If there's anything at all I can do to help, please do let me know. Thinking about you.
Saza
Have put poster up in Morrison's Bracknell and went into St Anne's Manor, which I think backs onto the area where Cody was lost and left poster with them. Have you contacted the RSPCA in Chobham? Do hope she turns up soon.
jobadger
Oh Julia, I'm so sorry. I had hoped there would be some news over the weekend. I wish I lived nearer and could offer practical support.
Jo xx
JuliaBicker
Still nothing. More posters will go up today
coxy55
Have you contacted Binfield Dog Rescue too. 01344 421490. Can't believe there haven't been any sightings.
JuliaBicker
Have this morning posted on DogAlert too. My brother and his wife came over yesterday and we spent all day searching. I was driving around too. I just cant believe there have been no sightings, no calls. I'm very upset someone has taken her. I have posted on Facebook too. Have inform Battersea Old Windsor and DBARC rescue centres
JacquiCaren
The night vision "thing" is available if it will help in the search.
Will let dog owners in the area know so they can keep an eye out for her.
Umneya
Sorry to hear Cody has gone missing. I work in Bracknell and my sister lives there, so I will make sure that we both keep a look out. Has there been any sightings of her at all? Just wondering if she would have gone towards Bracknell Forest or Look Out area? May be worth calling them there, as they have a lot of dog walkers and cyclists out and about at the weekend. I will be walking near there with my 2 dogs, so will keep an eye out for her and put this on FB. Angela
abbeyjune
Am sorry Cody is missing.Have put on Twitter so hopefully news will spread.Am saying a prayer for Cody,s safe return.xxx
coxy55
So sorry there's no sign of her Julia. Have put a thread on the Hound Lounge, my daughter-in-law is going out on a hack tomorrow so will keep a look out and has let people at her livery yard know. There is fishing lake off Redlake Lane, which is off Easthampstead Road, might be worth putting a poster up there. Also Holme Grange School has quite large grounds maybe a call to them would be worthwhile. They are a private school so might be open tomorrow. Let me know if you want to do any of this. Carol (who you spoke to earlier this afternoon!)
JuliaBicker
Just got in again from searching. Put up posters and dropped some off to properties which surround local fields.
JuliaBicker
I have reported her missing with local vets - thank you BonBon for taking in the poster because they told me they had details. Have been out all afternoon again and nothing. It's so out of character for her to disappear like this. Have tried local dog rescue centres but they are now closed for the day.
coxy55
Hi, I'm a fellow greyhound owner, if you want any help searching I'd be very willing to help. I live in Wokingham. Please let me know if there's anything at all I can do. Carol
BonBon
Have taken poster to Moor Cottage Vets this morning. Would also suggest you hand posters to the various facilities at Pinewood Leisure Centre which I seem to recall is not far from Oaklands. There are also several mobile home sites not far away soperhaps hand posters in there. Sorry I can't do more at the moment but hope you find her soon. Carole
DogLostBeezle
Lets hope someone has found her. At least then she is safe. You need to let as many people know as possible, posters are a good way of advertising the fact she is missing. I would suggest you ask if the local railway stations will put one up, (Wokingham and Bracknell,) as NR workers walk through the stations a lot. Good luck, if I hear anything I will of course let you know straight away.
JuliaBicker
Beezle - just to add I did walk right through to the woods where it ends at the railway line and the A329 and nothing. She's the type of dog too that will stop once she comes to a fence, she wont try and go through anything.
JuliaBicker
ok thanks I will contact NR. yes she has green YX tattoo'd in each ear. The dogwarden/stray dog collection called me this morning and were surprised that I hadn't heard anything. I'm surprised too that no-one has found her. She is very approachable and friendly.
DogLostBeezle
Hi. This borders my area. The railway line very near to where Cody went missing so I would suggest that Network Rail are contacted (0845 711 4141). Bracknell do not have a Dog Warden but do have a stray dog collection service so keep trying them and the Council. Is Cody an ex-racer? If so does she have tattoos?

My postcode is correct which is RG12 8DG, unfortunately I am on a new development and it doesn't always register, however the woodlands where she went missing is next to Oaklands Training School and their postcode is RG40 3YZ. I went out again last night with a friend and nothing. Again out this morning before work and nothing. I have made contact with the police and the dog warden. I will this morning contact the RSPCA and I am making up signs this morning.

Angus - Jennett's Park is a huge new housing development on the outskirts of Bracknell. Bracknell postcode is RG12 so would be accurate enough for mailings to go out. Hope this helps. Unfortunately, I can't get out to help search at the moment as am dealing with my very sick dog. However, will take a poster into my vet either later tonight or tomorrow morning. Hope Cody is found sage and sound very soon. Carole
