Be at peace now Charley Farley. Sleep tight. I really hope that you were surrounded by love before you passed to Rainbow Bridge. The oldies always tug at my heart. xx

Such a sad story - Charley looks such a lovely boy. My thoughts are with his family. Run free at the bridge, dear Charley, lots of rabbits there to chase xx

This is very very sad and I'm so sorry that little Charley didn't make it. I too have a 15-year-old JRT called Charlie. A friend and neighour calls him "Charlie Farley" - I believe this was a character in a film (possibly African Queen?), rather than Farley being the owner's surname. However, I do feel the need to defend the RSPCA; I support them here in Notts and believe they do a good job. If little Charley F had kidney failure and was no doubt suffering because of it, and vets said pts was the only action, what else would you have had them do? I know there are constraints because of lack of manpower and finance, but that is hardly the fault of the RSPCA - they receive no government funding and rely entirely on voluntary contributions. We all obviously care for animals and should be working together instead of slagging each other off. Hope little Charley F is now in a better world.
Jackie
Night night Charlie.... run free at the bridge... was hoping you were going to make it little man.. hope your owners were holding you tight at the end and you knew they were there...xxxx

I'm so sad to learn that Charlie didn't recover, i so wanted him too. I hope his owners where with him when he was pts and not on his own with strangers.

Hi all,My names Richard and I work for the Wirral Dog Wardens, I actually spoke to Charlies owner and told him where he was being held, so I can assure you all that there was no cover up with regards to this story, I have read previous comments and think its wonderful that there are so many people out there that care, it really does restore my faith in people :)
I have spoken with Jan on several occasions (very nice lady) and told her that I would ring the onwer to confirm what has happened to Charlie, but I have not yet managed to make contact, however Jan has spoken to the R.S.P.C.A and has been informed that he was put to sleep due to ill health, I know its a terrible shame but under the instructions and advice from the vet they feel that this was the right thing do for him.

~RIP CHARLIE FARLEY~

Not long finished to speaking to the DW again, thank you for your time.

When speaking to the RSPCA Inspector yesterday I was informed that sadly Charley was PTS on Monday, his condition was really bad and it was agreed by all involved and his owners it was the best thing for him.

Thank you to everyone who has shown concern for Charley and it is with sad regret to now be moving him over to Rainbow Bridge.

Thinking of his family at this very sad time, Run free at the Bridge Charley Farely and sweet dreams sweetheart. Jan x

I have spoken to his finder; she did not have any updates on Charley. I contacted the Regional RSPCA and left a message with the contact staff, the Inspector who dealt with Charley rang me back this afternoon, after speaking to the Inspector I rang the DW, he said he was going to contact Charley’s owner and get back to me, it was very late this afternoon. Hopefully I’ll speak to the DW tomorrow and if he has contacted his owner I’ll post an update. I can confirm contact was made with Charley’s owner on Monday and they consulted with the vet.

Charley is 15 years old and was in very bad health, if his chip details had been updated his owner could have been contacted straight away. Jan x
mumstaxi
hi tigermouse forget dog warden, spoke to her today, she did pass message on to charleys owners asking her to contact me or post on website and dog warden did say she was happy to get her dog back unlike some people who dont seem to care, so i think its genuine , i think because we all care so much we need 100 per cent to be satisfied and happy that things are what they are, if i hear from charleys owners i will let everyone know straight away take care xxxx
mumstaxi
hi tigermouse do you want to try rspca 01516 386318 to see if you can verify information i spoke to 2 people there it was the first one a young girl who confirmned that charleys owners had collected him she said a lot of people had rung in but the second woman i spoke to a little older knew nothing but would talk to staff and get back to me that was 2 days ago also which i found strange is i went through facebook names of rose farley and e mailed a couple , one woman replied and said not her dog, hers died in november, this was when the dog warden said the owner had moved in november and the chip address was out of date??? dog warden is 0151 6478799 she is nice and very helpful regards
Tigermouse
No it's not just you - I've had a very uneasy feeling about this since yesterday. I pray to God that little Charley really has been taken home and his owners post on here to let us know how he is.
mumstaxi
hi i spoke to dog warden yesterday, she said that the rspca took charley to vets the dog warden knew nothing about it, but apparently the dogs owner went into the dog wardens office then collected charley from vets, but the rspca in question apparently dont take in strays its the dog wardens duty?? the dog warden was very helful, the rspca though didnt know which vet charley had gone to i hope to god this info they have given me is correct i asked the dog warden to ask the owner to put post on here to let us know how charley is or if she would ring me direct, i have heard nothing yet, i do hope there is no cover up here!!! seems something isnt quite right or it maybe me

Any more news about Charlie? Fantastic news if he is back with his ownerLast edited: 2011-03-16 19:25:37 by Maggie

I truly hope that Charley is reunited with his owners and that he can once again feel loved during the time he has left.
Keep fighting little man xx
Tigermouse
I'm assuming he wandered from his new home and didn't know where he was, or maybe he went back to his old home. But the cynic in me says that maybe the owners didn't really come forwards at all and the RSPCA are being economical with the truth to hide what they don't want us to find out. I guess we'll never really know for certain unless his owners post on here, but I do hope he really has found his family - the alternative doesn't bear thinking about.
ladycool
Thats good news, but maybe im being cynical but if he just wandered taking into account he is old and would be a bit slow on his feet etc....why did his owners not find him, and why did they move??
I had a old JRTx who was 16 and siffered the same thing at the end had to get him pts...but .....hes never out of my sight and would never get a chance to wander , was he let out by himself, did they search and put posters up..
Why not update his details if moving...
Im sorry peeps just seems so strange...Last edited: 2011-03-15 22:23:10 by ladycool

Welcome home lovely Charley, so glad you made it home safe and sound, stay safe little man xx
Nigel and Cathy
Wonderful news that Charley has been reunited with this owners. I was seriously worried about this little lad.. I echo the concerns of everyone about the RSPCA. I think they are just too big to care on an individual basis anymore. It is so sad for all those they could help but are just too 'busy' to act. God bless you Charley Farley x
mon
I would not rate the RSPCA at all, they were never any help when I contacted them saying they had not got enough manpower to follow up my concerns!
mumstaxi
hi everyone i have only recently joined dog lost but it has restored my beliefs that many people out there do care and you have all proved it i hate animal neglect and cruelty and its nice when an old dog gets re united with his caring owners like charley farley if i win the lottery i will start my own rescue centre because they are so needed so many animals are cruelly abandonded so when my numbers are up who wants a job? take care everyone especially you charley xxx
Deb4gsd
So happy Charley is back with his family, bless him. Lots of love and TLC and home comforts! xx
as for the RSPCA.....don't get me started.....they are the last people I would contact if found a stray or ill dog!!!!!!
DogLostMajorjet (Jan) - Area Co-ordinator - Liverpool/Merseyside, North West
Thanks everyone for your concerns for Charlie and mumstaxi for following it up by phoning the RSPCA. I've been at Crufts from last Thursday and did not get back home until last night, in work at the moment.

I have rang his finder but she is not at home so I've sent a text to see if she knows anything.

It is great news his family have been found and hope little Charlie pulls through and recovers. Will move him into the BLUE now. Jan x

jobadger
I'm so relieved he's found his family. I hope he pulls through. My thoughts and prayers are with you Charley. xx
Tigermouse
Tears again here - if this really is true then I'm so glad little Charley has found his mum. I hope so much that he will pull through, but whatever happens at least he will be with his family. God bless little Charley, you're in my heart - get well soon baby xxx
dewilliams42
thanks mumstaxi for the update. i am so glad he found his family and hope he will pull through-jrt are tough little things!
jaynkate7769
mumstaxi, thanks for the update. I am so so glad poor Charley has found his mum. I hope he can pull through, but if not, I too am glad he will be surrounded by his family when the time comes xxx
mumstaxi
Hi everyone, i have just spoken to a member of staff at the rspca charleys owners went in for him yesterday they have had him a long time but they took him home yesterday. H e is very poorly, but if its any consolation he will spend his time he has left with his owners . bless him, apparently he had just wandered off and with being old lost his bearings, so at least he is home, the owner did move and forgot to update the chip details, i for one am so happy he has been re united this little dog has been on my mind and it was upsetting, so god bless charley farley, we were all rooting for you xxxx
mumstaxi
Does anyone know exactly whats happening to charley i thought he had a rescue place reading the other blogs, is it definate about this dog, has anyone got the right info the rspca has no right to pts if this dog can be saved there are plenty of us out there willing to pay the vets costs between us and give him a good home if this dog is pts because of costs its a disgrace the rspca are supposed to help save animals lives and to be honest im sure most vets could stand footing their own bill for treatment on occassions, so please has anyone got the true info on charley. many dogs live for years with renal failure is anyone in touch with the vets or rspca??? please let me know
ladycool
Can anyone update charleys situation, ?
jaynkate7769
What exactly is going on here with Charley? Who has him? Is he being given treatment? Which facebook page has the finder posted on?
Tigermouse
This is absolutely heartbreaking, I'm crying as I type this. What I think about the RSPCA isn't printable - they present themselves to the general public as being so caring and compassionate but the reality is often very very different. Many years ago I worked for a while in the office of our local branch but left by choice as I didn't agree with many of the things which happened.

I don't want to sound all doom and gloom, but if the worst comes to the worst with little Charley, and assuming the RSPCA will relinquish him, is anyone prepared to take responsibility for him and give him a decent burial? He deserves to be loved, and I'm quite happy to do that if no-one else will, though I'm hoping and praying it won't be necessary.

Fingers crossed little Charley, get better soon sweetheart xx
dewilliams42
if he was dehydrated his bloods would be all over the place to start with but im sure he could be treated. if someone wants to give him a chance they should be grateful for that and happy for charley.
Teddys Mum - Area Volunteer, West London
To warm him and rehydrate costs peanuts. This is the cruel VERY wealthy RSPCA. I stopped contributing to them many years ago when I learned just how easily and speedily they PTS, often without good reason. He looks so frightened, this is just so heartbreaking.
Tigermouse
To be honest I was dreading something like this happening. Is this really for definite? I don't know how much I can post on here without sailing too close to the wind, call me cynical but I really wouldn't trust the RSPCA, maybe they don't want to fund any more treatment so are looking for excuses? I really hope something can be done for this little one, he deserves to be loved.
hamish&katy
THis is what the finder posted on fb earlier.. not good news AT ALL...... his bloods come back and he is in renal failure,,, basically the rspca told me,, he is dying:-((( But I found a dog rescue lady up here who is willing to take him on(before the renal failure phone call) but the rspca wouldn't give him back to me. Im NOT HAPPY with them at the moment. Last edited: 2011-03-14 22:00:11 by hamish&katy

mumstaxi you said he has got a rescue space? is this with a dog rescue or the local rspca?

Maggie
Thank you dewilliams42, i try my best to help all the doggies/animals, tho others to far more than me but i try to do my bit..It is a very sad, cruel world we live in now :) - but lucky for the dogs/animals there are ppl like us trying to help them where we can :)
dewilliams42
maggie-you work so hard helping these poor dogs-see you help barrybloodhound too. hopefully charlie will pull through-he is prob very weak and if he is on a drip to hydrate him will hopefully feel stronger soon. it would be lovely to see him going to a new home if not claimed. i feel soo sad just thinking of all the poor souls without a loving home.
Maggie
I'm guessing that Farley is the owners surname? Have you got any more info that might help in tracing her? - have been search online, nothing, did a search on 192 but nothing :(
Maggie
charley is a poorly boy and it wouldn't be right to move him at this moment in time. Hoping Charlie will pull through!! I will be ringing the RSPCA in a day or so to see how he is, he is being treated and is comfortable. Last edited: 2011-03-14 09:43:00 by Maggie

Me too Tigs!
Thanks Jan for the link to Karens page.
Please keep us informed as to how this little man is doing xx
Tigermouse
I've been praying for something good to come of this and I'm so glad a rescue place has been found for him if needed, he doesn't deserve to be pts. I hope he responds well to treatment and soon gets a new forever home. Will check back here regularly for any news.
DogLostMajorjet (Jan) - Area Co-ordinator - Liverpool/Merseyside, North West
THANK YOU to Michelle for taking the time to care for him and everyone who has posted on his page and spread the word via Facebook. This poor guy has been found a rescue space if needed. Wishing him lots of luck and hope he recovers soon. Jan x
ladycool
I think the nearest rspca from here would be Wirral & Chester Animal Centre ??
ladycool
I would take him, Im in Scotland , my old Jrtx died 6 months ago so I have experience of this breed and older dogs..
Is there any news?
Unknown
Poor dog - hopefully he will recover in the next few days and can be rehomed if the owner cannot be found. I pray tomorrow brings better news. Liz xx
Tigermouse
Mumstaxi, I can probably help with transport if necessary (I'm in north Bolton so not that far from you) but it would have to be on a weekend. I feel really upset about this little one and hope he can be saved if the owner doesn't come forward. Does anyone know which RSPCA he went to?
mumstaxi
if owner not found, or doesnt want to be found i would like to give this little one a home if no rescue place can be found i have two dogs and six cats, four abandoned it breaks my heart .that it would be pts by vets because theres no owner to pay, would need trans to collect could anyone help if it comes to thant thanks

Maggie
Michelle, have you got any more info that could help us pls..anything that would help to find his owner? thank you
Maggie
He must of been roaming for a while to be in that condition.. thank you.. Need to know if they will let him go to another rescue..Some of my friends on my page are helping, one is going to ring and find out about him..
dewilliams42
HAVE SENT EMAIL TO MANY TEARS. THEY ARE AN EXCELLENT RESCUE. PERHAPS OWNER HAS JUST MOVED AND THE DOG IS JUST DISORIENTATED. BUT DEFINATELY DESERVES A CHANCE-ITS CONDITION IS NOT UNTREATABLE.
Maggie
CH24 is Birkenhead?
Maggie
Aww thank you Linzi, i am more than happy to pay for any vet treatment, just want to give this little one a chance, like every dog should have.. Got work soon or i would ring the RSPCA myself..im going to be wondering about him all day :(
Maggie
so did i dewilliams42.. thank you so much for helping this little one.Need to know if the RSPCA will release him to another rescue who could possibly help him, do you think they would?
linzi
ps i will chip in fr vet bills to sort his leg before it gets infected...please ask then to get his leg sorted.
linzi
do you know the street the owner lived can you ask who lives there now to ask neighbours they may know or have an idea where she moved too? ...this baby needs his mummy!
dewilliams42
i will send an email to many tears in wales to see if they can help. looks like he may have been wandering for a while if his owner moved november. i thought the rspca did their best for all animals.
Maggie
He can't stand cos he's got bites on his legs!! what the hell is wrong with some ppl
Maggie
He does Dewilliams42 but why won't they help him cos they have got to pay for it, if he had a owner im sure they would be more than happy to treat him and take there money.. Im angry and upset about this.. Im in Scotland, come from England and its times like this i wish i was back there cos i would take him in a heart beat!!! Im at work so won't have the time to ring them to ask if we can find him a rescue to help him.. I would glady pay for any treatment he needs!!!!
dewilliams42
i agree with you maggie. he needs fluids and heat pads and plenty of love. surely a rescue somewhere could give him a chance. i would have him if i could get him to swansea-i already have a 14 yr old jrt.
Maggie
OMG they can't put this little one down!!! If i can find him another place to go, do you think they will let them take him.. He deserves a chance, every living animal does.. pls pls can one of the doglost ppl who are on FB pls let me know if i can try and find this little one a place???? I will be at work till late but you can still send me a message.. Im totally shocked that they would put him to sleep due to being Dehydrated and suffering from the cold..
