- Well I'm just speechless. It certainly does look like its the money to get them back in this case.. and probably a lot of others. Thats if you can trace where they've taken your dog! Its extremely worrying Angi because some much loved pets might never see their owners again if this is common practice.

- I totally agree Faye except in this case the dog warden did come out and drove them to the kennels! Plenty of opportunity to look at their ctags and phone. It's about money for getting them back. The Staffie Missy just found is another very worrying DW case where they found her and then handed her over to a complete stranger without even asking their name let alone ID. The family only got her back due to a massive poster and facebook coverage making her too hot to handle.. Very worrying indeed. x

- Think this has a lot to do with it being the weekend when Ross and Roan were found AJD.
As far as i'm aware dog wardens only work office hours, any dog found out of hours they ask the finder to detain the dog till the next working day and the dog warden will collect it! Absolutely no excuse at all but may be why microchip companies weren't informed immediately and the boys ended up in sleaford.
I think going to the press is a good idea, it will bring to light what actually happens when you lose your dog, particularly at weekends. A lot of people wouldn't know where to start! - 2011-03-31 13:20 angi
- crikey it gets worse! very worrying as I'm sure they are not the only ones doing this. Maybe the local press would be interested?

- Just a further piece of news. I have today contacted both Identichip and PetLog who are the microchip providers for the dogs. They have checked their records and have told me that no contact was made with them regarding the missing dogs.
Apparently Dog Wardens should notify them immediately that they have found a dog in order that it is entered on their database.

- Excellent AJD, very interested to hear the outcome, and as Angi says if it prevents other dogs having to endure the same treatment you have done well.I will be watching this thread with interest. Hope Ross and Roan are now fine and settled at home!
- 2011-03-29 17:35 angi
- well done. hopefully you may save other dogs from going through the same ordeal. Please let us know the outcome. I now have quite a few outraged people on the labrador forum very interested in the treatment of your gorgeous boys. A few have suggested reporting them to the RSPCA as what happened was unaccepable. neglect.

- Just to update. I have today made a formal complaint to the environmental Health dept of SKDC regarding the way this matter has been (mis) handled. I have stated that it is entirely unacceptable that we were not contacted, it is unforgivable that the dogs had neither water or food, and that they were returned after one night in a stinking condition.
I have been assured that a full investigation will be undertaken. I have also said that I wish to meet with the ultimate head of department responsible for this function. We will see!! - 2011-03-28 17:45 Faye
- Thankyou angi,I am appalled as well, I think when you do everything you can to identify your dog then this happens its unbelievable. When you love your dog to within an inch of its life it seems even worse!Unfortunately these things happen and dogs slip collars, jump fences and sneak out of open doors! But these were very obviously loved and well cared for dogs, why the finder did not ring owners I cant imagine. At least they didn't get hit by a car, its a narrow little village in parts and as everywhere some cars just go too fast!. its high time something was done about council pounds in general, lets hope AJD gets somewhere with his complaint.
- 2011-03-28 16:57 angi
- several people on the labrador forum have posted how pleased they are the boys have been found. I will now draw their attention to your concerns.I'm shocked and appalled that as responsible dog owners we do everything to identify our dogs then they don't even bother to contact you or even give your dog a drink of water! It truly beggars belief :-( If were to join us on the forum you would get a lot of support. It's a very big community! :-)

- If I find out who sent them to the dog warden AJD I'll thank them and give them my phone number and tell them if they find anyone elses dog in Castle bytham to ring me!!
I dont want this to happen to anyone elses dog, its just awful for all concerned.
Unfortunately you dont suprise me with the discription of the pound, couldn't put on an
open forum what I know about some of these places. Watch your dog for any symptoms of kennel cough or sickness and di.Hopefully they'll be fine! Hope your complaint to the council has some impact. - 2011-03-28 15:43 AJD
- Faye
You are quite right, the main thing is they are safe and unharmed, and did not spend a very cold night out of doors.
I put a poster in the village shop in Castle Bytham early this morning, and also popped posted through the door of the Fox and Hounds (the owner very kindley helped us serch yesterday). I also put posters in Morkery wood and on the village notice board. You may just find out who it was called the SKDC dog warden, and is so, please do thank them, but also ask why oh why they didn't phone us?
The kennel was a filthy place, along the side of one fence were dirty dishes with food possibly to feed cats, and there was rubbish all around.I am contacting the SKDC Environmental Officer to discuss this! - 2011-03-28 14:34 Faye
- The way this has been handled is a disgrace AJD I hope you get some explanation from SKDC.
Its distressing enough losing your dogs without having all this to go through it must have been very distressing for Ross and Roan and I hope they dont have any lasting effects from their experience. It beggars belief that whoever found them in castle Bytham did not ring the numbers on their tags! Why didn't the dog warden suggest that??? However I am delighted they are safe and unharmed, Clipsham road is notorious for speeding motorists, heavy lorries and farm machinery. I have learned something here...I had no idea a stray dog would be taken all the way to sleaford, we live in Castle Bytham, I know now!! Great news they are home, no more chasing deer Ross and Roan! - 2011-03-28 14:06 AJD
- Firstly, a very big THANK YOU to Faye for searching for the boys at Clipsham, and to everyone else who supported in the effort to get them home.
I am however going to make a formal complaint to South Kesteven Council regarding the way this matter has been handled. It appears someone found these dogs at Castle Bytham sometime in the afternoon, and contacted the SKDC dog warden via their emergency number (why oh why didn't they just phone us??) The dog warden then collected them and drove to Sleaford some 30 miles away where they were left at around 6.30pm. Despite the fact they had 1)collars with out name and home number embroidered on. 2)dog tags with home number, mobile number and e-mail address and 3)microchips, we received no calls and there were no messages on answer machines.
We had to pay £81 to recover the dogs. This had to be paid by credit card before SKDC would tell us which kennel they had been taken to. The fee comprised a "picking up fee" and four night stay (2 per dog) even though they were collected by 11am this morning, and by the admission of the kennel owner, had not been fed. They were desperate for water and also for food, and smelled dreadful. - 2011-03-28 13:29 ESSJ - Area Co-ordinator Rutland
