- Cant imagine how i missed the last 2 posts from grumbles and only just read them.I feel a couple of things needed clarifying too...its just a couple of things that really dont sit right,You state that the dog you found was taken to the Hollies on saturday evening had been reunited with the old lady owner following the phone call (made first thing Monday morning by Tracy of the Hollies)to the Dog warden to inform them of the red and white Springer Spaniel you had found and "hey presto" a match was found because a Springer Spaniel had already been reported missing by a local lady. I spoke to the Dog Warden on duty that same day 4th april to re-assure myself this couldnt be Tay,and he told me he hadnt had any Springers reported missing nor had anyone reported one being found,so grumbles thats my first point made. Also i spoke to Tracy on monday and she described the dog as Red and White!!not liver nor brown! but Red and as proprietor of the kennel should know how to describe a dog acurately. Also i was told by receptionist at the vets that Haley opened up at the vets out of hours and scanned the dog for her friend Frazzy(sarah)and not the out of hours vet.So as you can see our versions are considerably different and im not sure why ! I do know that anyone wishing to check with the animal warden for lost and found springers in that area early april would get the same answers and draw the same conclusion.Thankyou for Tays well wishes, gail.
PS correct me if im wrong but dont haley and sarah walk dogs for hollies kennels and wouldnt have needed to have left their contact details with tracy. Also if the dog went to kennels on saturday why didnt tracy contact animal warden on sunday?!!!Im no less confused !!!Last edited: 2011-05-29 06:45:04 by scootjockey - 2011-04-05 15:53 Shereen
- Id just like to say a Huge Thankyou to Frassy for getting this old lad to safety and if it wasnt for you the poor old boy could of come to grief so thankyou so much for your kindness and for helping him.
gready it would be brilliant if you can get an actual picture of Tay,Weve all got our fingers crossed he is handed in and his chip is read realy soon,Sending positive thoughts your way.X - 2011-04-05 15:19 grumbles
- hang on, my last post speaks volumes/.? yes there was a slight sarcasm but it was meant to be light hearted (sorry if i offended) but really if you are indicating in anyway i am un-caring then why would i spend my time helping this dog find its rightful home all sat and sunday? , i didnt want gready getting her hopes up as i have seen this dog and know that there is a difference between an english springer and welsh. i was trying to help and clear things up for all parties and as you can see i wish gready all the best for finding her dog, i completely understand and have sympathy with her. things on here have been assumed so i was merely stating facts to clear things up and avoid confusion. again, gready i wish you all the best in finding Tay.

- I can see what you're all saying in regards to Gail having to see the dog herself to believe that it isn't Tay but that's just probably not possible. The kennels themselves are unable to give out details/addresses etc and if Hollies kennels are adamant that the dog is not Tay then they probably won't even get in contact with the lady owner who collected the dog. I am very sorry Gready and i hope so much you find Tay

- Grumbles, is there any need for the 'sarcastistic attitude' re dog changing to a 'Springer'. Just feel there had been a lack of understanding this time towards Gready and your last post re attitude speaks volumes to me. Gready lets hope if this is definately not your Tay, that he his found safe and well very soon x

- lets go from the start.. sarah (my other half) was walking her dog sat evening around 6pm, she then came to my house with the springer at around 6.30, hayley was at my house collecting something as she is a friend and sarah knew she was here so thought she could help. hayley then met us at the vets where she had called the on suty vet and the dog was scanned, no chip found. we (me & sarah) were then advised to take him to the hollies, time now around 7.15 pm. tracey then took him off us as described and took down our details and off we went. on sunday evening me and sarah went round the local area where he was found and put up posters. monday morning at 9.15 i called the hollies to see how he was and tracey told me that he was being collected that day, the owner had been found. i called hayley at the vets to inform her of this. as it turns out the dog had escaped locally (i dont know how long ago) and was pestering local dogs. the dog needed a bath, looked like he needed a feed and was obviously tired. tracey has obviously been in touch with the dog warden first thing monday and they have matched a missing dog with the owner who has reported him. nothing sinister or dodgy in anyway. bazil...you say it "seems" to you the dog was handed over with no questions...you dont know this and neither does gready as it has been made up on here. i was there from when the dog was found and i can tell you it was an english springer spaniel, dark brown and white and a big lad. a welsh springer is red and white and of a smaller build. why is everyone so suspicious????its sorted, the lady has obviously proved it was hers. all me/sarah/hayley and tracey have done is what was best for the dog and to find its rightful home. end of. unless this dog has somehow grown into an english springer spaniel and somehow aged itself and dyed its own fur then this is not Tay. i wish you all the best in finding Tay and i would be broken if my dogs went missing but hand on heart this is definately not him. now i think its best people stop assuming things and evolving chinese whispers. good look finding Tay.
- 2011-04-05 12:43 Berties Family
- I agree with Bazil - something does not sound right with this - like Gready I would like to see this dog just to put mind at rest and so on....
- 2011-04-05 12:08 BBKM
- Its great that you all care so much but can you all not see that Gready needs to see this dog so she knows for sure it is not Tay. Something doesn't add up here.... how come the dog was in such a state when found if he has supposedly been looked after by this 'old lady' ????? Description first put on by Frassy was he looked like he had been missing a while, how come he has been claimed so quickly ???? Seems to me this dog has been handed over without any questions asked. I would feel exactly the same as Gready, she needs to see this dog!

- It was always Saturday the 2nd April. I don't think we should be getting into an argument about whether this dog is Tay or not, everybody is here to help you Gready.
- 2011-04-05 10:15 gready
- Grumbles , then you must be Haley staff from vets who opened up after hours to scan the dog and then took it to the hollies after closing on what was sunday but now seems to be saturday.
- 2011-04-05 09:36 natalie
- sorry, posted at the same time grumbles
- 2011-04-05 09:34 natalie
- We are all sympathetic of you losing your dog Gail, but it just doesn't add up if it were Tay. Firstly, as Frassy said, the dog was scanned 4 times by the vet and no chip was found. There was no collar on the found dog, no id details. It is a very long way away from where Tay was lost, an owner came to collect him from the holding kennels so must have found out he was there, either by calling round the kennels or the dog warden, and lastly he was described as an english springer spaniel not a welsh springer. Maybe you are right and all these things were coincidences but for all these things to be against it being Tay i wonder why you are so sure that it is him?
- 2011-04-05 09:33 grumbles
- i know for sure as i was the one along with frassy who took the dog first to the vets and had it scanned and there was def no chip/tag, we then took it to the hollies where i have to say tracey was nothing but helpful especially considering she was in the middle of making tea on a sat evening and was actually closed! i have spoken to the vets this morning and the woman had reported him missing, the dog warden has put 2 and 2 together and hey presto, dog re-united. its definitely the old lady's dog as she has been seen locally to where he was found walking him. i understand your frustration and questioning but this is not your Tay. the dog was an english springer, albeit a large one and was very dark brown and white. not tan and white and im 99% sure he was not a welsh springer. the dog was quite elderley to and slightly wobbly on his back legs and glazed eyes. how old is Tay?
- 2011-04-05 09:16 gready
- Grumbles,Natalie ,Pardon my ignorance! but what exactley is it that makes you so sure that this dog isnt Tay?And grumbles the proprietor of the hollies A Tracy wright told me the dog is red and white ?!!! And i take your point this place dont rehome just holds dogs/animals till the warden collects them !!!this dog wasnt collected by a warden but by an old lady !! Old lady ??Welsh Springer?? Nothing to worry about ???And by the way our dog was stolen Almost 4 weeks ago aint unusual for adog being dumped other side of country (if too hot to handle) or taken there to use or sell anyhow I DONT KNOW BUT WONDERED WHY YOU SO SURE IT AINT MY DOG.Last edited: 2011-04-05 09:17:48 by gready
- 2011-04-05 08:28 natalie
- Thanks for clarifying Grumbles, i don't know why but i presumed the hollies was more of a rescue centre/council kennel but i understand now about the whole scanner thing. It does seem very unlikely to be Tay but as Gail said i don't think she will rest until she knows for sure. Most dog people (and i assume the lady at the hollies is one) would be able to tell the difference between a welsh springer and an english springer so i assume this was not Tay and as Grumbles said perhaps the lady owner simply called all her local holding kennels/dog warden and was pointed in the direction of the found springer?
- 2011-04-05 07:55 grumbles
- the hollies is a holding kennel the dog wardens and vets use. no dog goes there before the vet or warden had scanned them. they hold them for the wardens until the warden can take them to a rehoming kennel. the hollies is not nor ever has been a rehoming centre, just a boarding kennel that is helping the warden out. nothing worrying about it atall. looks to me like this is just a simple case of dog being lost and found within a few days. im sorry you have lost your dog gready but reading this i am sure this is not your Tay. good luck in finding him though, i hope you track him down.
- 2011-04-04 23:05 natalie
- very worrying.
- 2011-04-04 22:53 gready
- Natalie. Tracy didnt mention she borrowed a scanner at any time just her kennell the hollies doesnt have one!Last edited: 2011-04-04 22:56:08 by gready

- I also wonder how his owners knew he was at the kennels so quickly when there was no ID or chip, my other concern is why this kennels do not have a scanner? I thought it was law for them to scan every dog that came through the door? If they have to borrow a scanner then i can see why so many dogs slip through the net without their chips being read. Makes you lose faith in the importance of the microchip, but at least the vet scanned him! I know the chances of him being Tay are slim as he was scanned 4 times and he is described as a springer, but i see what you mean Gail about not being able to rest until you know. I would be the same.
- 2011-04-04 20:43 Frassy
- It was me who took him. Hayley met me at the vets to open up as it was out of hours. I then took him to he kennels. No collar on him when found.
- 2011-04-04 20:03 gready
- the dogs behavior fits our tays he has been trained walks to heel no lead required ,is used travelling and loves it mark brings him to lancs from lincs every weekend. Was he wearing a collar? Gonna have to see this dog to confince me it aint him.Was it you or Haley that took him to the vets and then onto the kennells?
- 2011-04-04 19:19 Frassy
- Yep I sure am
- 2011-04-04 19:17 gready
- Frassy are you sarah?.. Gail x
- 2011-04-04 18:57 Frassy
- Hi the dog I found was darker brown than Tay. It was not so ginger in colour. He had a brown patch on the top of his tail
- 2011-04-04 18:54 Frassy
- Vet said liver and white English springer. I will look at the photo now
- 2011-04-04 18:50 gready
- tracy from the HollieS discribed the dog as Red and white(welsh springer as oppossed to liver(english)I know its difficult to describe and to determine a shade of brown as is often used to describe thes spaniels.Even professionals discriptions of the same dog varie , you wouldnt beleive it.You ve seen tay on dogs lost was the dog you found similar to that photo(which is of the same breed but not him)Thanks gail

- Hi I took the dog to the vet to be scanned. They then informed me to take him to the kennels. I was there when scanning and the machine said 4 times no chip found. The vet scanned all over the dogs body.

- 2011-04-04 14:38 Shereen
- Ive spoken to Frassy briefly today...this was definately an English Springer and not a Welsh springer....she will be in touch with kennels to make sure dog has been reclaimed.
- 2011-04-04 11:59 mumstaxi
- hiya frassy will there be any more details about etc or where dog lost from, i assume this is the dog you handed in and not tay many thanks
- 2011-04-04 11:29 Frassy
- The owner of the dog has rand the kennel where he is staying and will be picking him up later. I do not know anymore details yet I am afraid. At least he has been claimed.

- I was just wondering if it could be Tay. Fingers tightly crossed that it is.

- hi we lost a welsh springer in wigan three weeks ago is there any chance this is the same dog ? ,have just got in from searching for ours as usual. will ring the phone number listed for more information in the morning at a more sensible hour meanwile any more information available would be appreciated thanks
- 2011-04-03 22:20 SYESSR
- Frassy - it is worth speaking to the dog warden as the kennels should keep him at least 7 days before passing on to a rescue kennels and I also think that the finder is entitled to keep the dog with them rather than them go to kennels (although this has to be for 28 days rather than 7)and even if they go to kennels I think the finder is entitled give the dog a home at the end of the 7 days if they so wish (may be adoption costs involved tho). Once the dog is yours then if you pass it onto a Springer Rescue then it is your business.

- hi there recently noticed on animal wardens that a springer was lost in jan from st7 which i believe by road is about 12-13 miles from where found i phoned animal wardens and they are going to try and pass finders phone number on and dog lost site details bit of a long shot but worth a try so hopefully someone will be in contact soon have notified finder what i have done. if this isnt the lost dog and frassy wants to try and get the dog and help homing him then she should be allowed to one less to worry about for the kennels and rescue centre?were on your side frassy fingers crossed
- 2011-04-03 21:04 dinkydoodle
- Hi frassy, it would be great if you can get the kennel details and even better if you can get this chap yourself and I know there will be a springer rescue who will be able to rehome him (look on google at ESSW, there is also North West ESSR and others), most of them have waiting lists of suitable owners and if they don't they have foster homes until a forever home is found. Good luck, you obviously have this dog's best intentions at heart. Shereen, do we need to change the bit about being microchipped???Last edited: 2011-04-03 21:05:25 by dinkydoodle

- Posted link to gundog forum in case he's a working boy, will crosspost to FB too. I hope you can take him in to prevent him being pts :(, it could be worth contacting Springer rescues as they may be able to step in and offer him a kennel?

- Hi Frassy. would you recognise him if you saw him again? Wondered if you could look through the lost dogs section and see if you recognise him. If click on 'Click here for lost dogs' and do a search for spaniel english springer, male dogs and click the box for photo list, it will just bring up the photos and you wouldn't have to look through every dog. Just a thought that you might see him. Cheers x

- it would be great if a photo was available,Good luck Frassy
- 2011-04-03 14:10 Frassy
- That is mine. I am ringing the kennels tomorrow for an update, and ask if they will release him to me if not claimed. They will pts dogs who are not rehomed in a week or so at the local dogs home. I want him to go somewhere that will keep him until he finds a good home.
- 2011-04-03 13:51 Shereen
- They should do if you show interest....is the phone number on page yours or the kennels?
- 2011-04-03 13:41 Frassy
- I wish he was still with me. I took him to the vet yesterday to have him scanned for a chip. When they did not find a chip they said take him to the local kennel who will look after him for 5 days to see if anybody claims him. Then he will go for rehoming at the local dogs home. I want to get him back from the kennel though if nobody claims him. I want him to go to springer rescue instead of the local rescue. I hope they give him back to me.
- 2011-04-03 13:27 Shereen
- ah bless him Frassy it sounds like hes had a realy rough time of it lately thanks for registering him with us...is he still with you??if possibe could you take a photo of him and send it into admin@doglost.co.uk with his id number...we can then crossmatch with any we have missing.
- 2011-04-03 13:12 Frassy
- This dog seems to have been missing a while, he was very thin and tatty looking with barbed wire around his leg and a cut tongue. He was very hungry and thirsty.
He was found following some dog walkers, and before that was on the main road. He followed one set of dog walkers and then onto another, so he could have travelled far.
He is very friendly , good with people and other dogs and travelled brilliantly in the car. He sat for a biscuit, and walked nicely by my side, so somebody has spent time training him.
