- THE RAINBOW BRIDGE POEM
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

- Had a very distressing call from Mel this afternoon and have just finished speaking to her. It is with sad regret that Digby has been reunited but is now at Rainbow Bridge.
Our deepest thoughts go out to Mel who has never given up looking for him and wishes to pass on her thanks to DL and everyone who has helped and supported her throughout her search.
Mel, these type of reunions are what we all dread and our heart goes out to you.
Thinking of Mel and Digby at this very sad time. Run free at the Bridge and sweet dreams Digby you will never be forgotten. Jan x

- I was wondering if all local councils have Traveller Liaison Officers? Can anyone advise? If so, it might be worth emailing posters to all the neighbouring councils - i.e, Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, Northamptonshire etc, etc. That way, if they have need to visit the sites you could ask them to keep a look out for Digby. I just wish I'd taken more notice of the dog I saw at the services - I am sure he/she was with travellers, but they were still there when we left, so no idea in which direction they were heading.
- 2011-05-09 01:04 Epona
- Hi. I contacted a lady from preloved yesterday who had adopted a white germand shepherd and was asking for possible info of his history. She was in Leicster area. She sent me pics but unfortunately it wasn't Digby.
I haven't really widened the search but his previous owners have posted an advert for him being stolen in the coventry area on preloved.
The travellers site in Preston has been seen and mumstaxi spoke to one of the workmen that was working on the site and he said he hadn't seen any dogs at all on the site. They apparentlu aren't like the normal travellers as they stay in that site and don't move. I think it could be travelers that took him as no one on the whole of my estate has come forward to say anything which is unusual. Some of my neigbours didnt even know I had a white german Shepherd. - 2011-05-08 09:12 Barney 'n' Ozzie's mum
- No luck yesterday I'm afraid. Have you widened the radius as far as notifying rescues centres and vets is concerned? I know there are travellers sites in Cambridegeshire and Norfolk and just thought it would be an idea to spread the word a bit further afield incase he has been taken out of the area?
- 2011-05-07 20:07 J MO
- So sorry Mel that it wasn't Digby but we will continue the search. Did u have any joy with Rock FM? Have u contacted the Council to find out where the travellers are? I have emailed a poster to them but a call may help. Try the City Council and County Council. I know a number of Surveyors who work at County and r always out and about in Lancashire so I will forward Digbys poster to them. Still emailing posters out to businesses in Lancashire. Keep reminding the Dog Warden and rescue centres that he is still missing as if they don't hear from u they may think that he has been found.

- Again Epona, so sorry that it wasn't Digby but will keep looking x

- Hi. Unfortunately the dog in Leeds today wasn't Digby. A very nice dog. Apparently someone rang up saying they thought it was theirs and were from the area he was found but they haven't bothered ringing me back. It really anoys me that people have such lovely dogs and just don't want them and then someone steals a dog that is wanted. Why don't they just go to the rescue centers and get one. The GSD in Leeds will be up for rehoming in a few day if anyone you know would want him.
I have also written to a lady on preloved who has just adopted a white GSD, and is wanting to find out history, to see if it is Digby so will keep my fingers crossed.
Thanks Barnie 'n' Ozzies mum. If you do see anything again please let me know. - 2011-05-06 21:25 Barney 'n' Ozzie's mum
- I am going back up to Lincolnshire tomorrow and will be stopping at Peterborough Services again. Will keep a look out for the white gsd I saw a couple of weeks ago.

- Hi. I've rung the vets in Leeds. The dog isnt chipped but I've sent a poster and pictures through to them. Theyare going to get back to me. Had a call from a lovely lady yesterday that was following a white germand shepherd down westpark ave where one of the possible sightings had be. We got there but unfortunately it wasn't him, but a big thank you to the lady for helping. I've been down to the post office depot at Preston and they have circulated his poster and the guys on the local rounds are taking the small leaflet with them if they see a german shepherd matching his description. Thank you all so much for you help I was wondering what to do next. i will call Rock FM tomorrow at about the same time and try to get them to put a shout out to find Digby.

- Sorry if this sounds like a wasted comment but On Rock FM this morning about 9.30 they were taking about a blue peter dog that had died and they thought it was a white alsation so it got them talking and the presenter said there is no such thing as a white alsation, they are black/tan! It made me think of Digby and I thought it may be an opportunity for you to ring the station and tell them there are white alsations and then tell them about Digby. Free advertising! Just a thought.
- 2011-05-05 13:42 J MO
- Just had an email from RSPCA Preston. They are displaying Digby's poster in the offices and kennels and will contact Mel if they hear or see anything relating to Digby.
- 2011-05-03 12:51 Barney 'n' Ozzie's mum
- Great idea J MO. Taxi drivers would be a good idea too as they are out at all hours (sorry if this has already been suggested).
- 2011-05-03 10:55 J MO
- Mel, have u spoken to milkmen and postmen in Preston? They r usually very helpful and are out and about at unusual hours and if he is being walked at early hours they may see him
- 2011-05-03 10:40 J MO
- A new plan of attack. I am now emailing Digby's poster out to spread the word. So far I have done the Boarding Kennels in Preston and surrounding areas, Pet shops, Rescue Centre including RSPCA Preston, Animal Sanctuaries, and Preston City Council.I am now going to tackle each surrounding area. I am starting with Preston to ormskirk and Southport areas.
- 2011-04-30 13:38 Epona
- Thank you Barney 'n' Ozzie's mum. I will try ringing Peterborough services. It does sound like him as when I put him in the kennel to get my car out of the drive he used to howl and try anything to get out till I let hi out after shutting the gate. It amazes me that a dog can just disappear into thin air.
I spoke to the dog warden and she is keeping and eye out and will scan any dog she things is Digby till she finds the chip.
The joint poster drop is a good idea. Where should we start?
I've had a bit of bad news on the personal front hence not been writting back on here but will do from now on. Not going to let 1 cheating male stop me from finding my faithful Digby. - 2011-04-29 15:07 Barney 'n' Ozzie's mum
- If he has been taken out of the area, the dog I saw at Peterborough Services (as mentioned in my post on 24.04.11) could possibly have been him as it would have meant a trip down the M1, then just cutting across to the A1. Why not see if they have any CCTV there? As I mentioned before, the dog was constantly barking. Let me know if you need any further details x
- 2011-04-29 12:19 J MO
- Mel, we have another dog gone missing from PR2. Perhaps we should organise a joint poster drop and search for both dogs over the weekend
- 2011-04-28 22:49 Witchy-poos
- I'm so sorry he's not home yet Mel, don't give up hope, he must be out there somewhere. I really don't know what to do next other than make sure we keep the posters out there to jog people's memories. It is possible that he's still in the area & whoever has him is just not walking him to keep him hidden, but I guess it's also possible he's been taken out of the area. I will help if I can but I don't know what else we can do at this stage.xxx
- 2011-04-28 22:08 Caroline Hoyles
- Sorry to hear you haven't found Digby yet either...lets hope that Brook and Digby are keeping each other company somewhere!
We've been checking the travellers sights regular in Presall, Singleton and Lancaster but no sighting of either dogs. Have you tryed asking your local paper to put an appeal in? Hope you have some good news soon x - 2011-04-28 13:44 J MO
- Mel, Perhaps we need to start looking further afield as well as Preston.Have you contacted the Milkmen, Royal Mail, paper boys, binmen? anyone who drie=ves around regularly. Also, keep checking the shelters, in person if you can and keep badgering the Dog Warden as if they don't hear from you they may assume that he has been found. I will try and get to Preston over the weekend.Have you done the park by Winckley Square?
- 2011-04-28 12:33 Epona
- Hi. I'm at a loss what to do next. Does anyone have any ideas? He will be being mentioned on the Saturday morning Central FM show but apart from that I don't know what to do.
- 2011-04-27 12:20 Epona
- Hi. I went round avenham park and town and holme slack and moor park on Monday. Digby's previous owner was a PCSO at Preston and has got the police to distribute the posters within the force again and tell them where to look out for him He is aldo contacting the shelters to see if they know anything.
There is a poster at the taxi firm next to the fox street shelter. Thank you to who ever put it in there. I'm just going to keep driving round town and see if I see anything. Not sure what else to do. All suggestions greatly received. Coem home Digby. - 2011-04-26 17:13 mumstaxi
- hi went to the travellers site today but spoke to a guy who was working for a building firm bulding toilets and showers for the reident travellers didnt speak to any travellers i told the guy i was looking for my jrt that was lost and asked if he had seen on dogs on the site he said he hadnt seen any dogs at all but dont take that as read
- 2011-04-25 21:04 mumstaxi
- hi mel been out elizabeth street meadow street deepdale road round moor park, nothing, the travellers are not that far from elizabeth street where window cleaner saw a dog like digby
- 2011-04-25 20:51 Witchy-poos
- There is a traveller site just down from there. I don't know the street location but it's between ringway & Uni area. If you head out of town on the ringway towards Penwortham past Corporation St on your left there's a bridge you go under & it's over to the right there further back - it's on an empty lot/car park. Dog Wardens will know the exact street location of it, so worth asking them, but I wouldn't go on the site unless you have definate info & then you would need to take the Police with you - be careful. Worth walking the area though as you can see onto the site. To get by road to it you'd have to come off Corporation St I think or Flyde Rd due to one way systems. Will have a walk round there tomorrow at some point. Come on Digby, let someone see you so we can come bring you home.xxx
- 2011-04-25 04:25 Epona
- Hi sorry not been around. I've posted on moor park and at the fair today. Yes my dog will constantly howl if left on his own. Also had a call from a window cleaner saying he saw old white german shepherd on elizabeth st in preston. He said he was with 3 blokes, thought they were junkies as they appeared dirty. It could be travelers. I have informed the police and hopefully going to get the previous owner to pull his contacts as he worked with the vagrants in preston. Will keep everyone informed. Many thanks for all your help. My daughter also posted leaflets door to door on larches today. Come home Digby.

- Sorry not been able to help with night searches last two nights, not had enough time spare. Have been handing out leaflets on my dog walks on Moor Park & Haslam park & getting poster up anywhere I pass that will take them. Will get out there again tomorrow & leaflet & poster where I can. We just need one good sighting of this boy.xxx

- 2011-04-24 21:01 Barney 'n' Ozzie's mum
- Probably a long shot, but I was at Peterborough services with my husband at about 9am on Good Friday and there was a white short haired GSD tied to a tree alongside a flatbed truck with a caravan on the back (looked like a traveller-type vehicle). What drew my attenion to the dog was that it was constantly barking. Might be worth checking if they have CCTV of the grassy area next to the carpark. Didn't think much of it at the time, but now wish I'd taken a closer look.

- Hi. had a sighting if a white german shepherd at the corner of eldon st and brook st but wasnt there when i got there. Spoke to th ekids on the park that comnfirmed it was with a dark haired young pretty girl. Will chase it up again tomorrow but I think it was the one that was at lane ends on tuesday which I saw and it definately wasnt mine as it was a lot younger and a longer coat. I have pushed leaflets through westpark ave, mumstaxi is postering eldon st and lane ends area tomorrow and I am continuing to leaflet my estate. Some one has to know something no matter how small. Come home Digby.

- 2011-04-23 02:25 Epona
- Yes Thank you all. I am more optimistic tonight of finding him. There was another sighting of a white german shepherd in the area of the other 2 sightings on Tuesday but it was during the day going down the rd rather than up it. The guy noticed it as he said it was new to the area and he hadn't seen it before. I'm going to concentrate on that area tomorrow.

Good idea not to let on. Send all the details you have & I will do my best to get out in that area.xxx - 2011-04-20 10:06 Epona
- Hi Witchy-poos. How do I write to you privately?. I daren't say in a public forum where he was seen as it might give the people who have him a tip off.
- 2011-04-20 09:20 Witchy-poos
- Fingers crossed it's him. If you want to post location of potential sighting or send it to me privately I will try to get down to walk my own dogs in that area. Doing more posters today on my travels. Lots of friends & neighbours are putting posters up in windows, cars & at workplaces & I'm carrying leaflets & posters in the car so I can get them out on my travels. Come on Digby, time to come home!
- 2011-04-19 23:52 Majorjet (Jan) - Area Co-ordinator - Liverpool/Merseyside, North West
- Mel, hope the sightings are Digby, read the Scenting Instructions in case you need to use them soon, they also explain how to behave if you see him. Good luck. Jan x
- 2011-04-19 23:14 Epona
- Hi Just been chasing possible sightings of him tonight. Didn't see anything but hopefully we will.
- 2011-04-19 17:55 Epona
- Hi I've done Pets at home and the Riversway vets and vets for pets on North rd. I called into the fair people today and gave a guy a load of posters. He suggested that I come back on Thursday when the fair is on and try to get each of the attractions to put a poster up.
I did see a white german shephers today at lane ends but unfortunately it wasn't Digby. If you could so Avenham park amd Penwortham that would be great as I don't think they have been covered yet.
I am sure someone on my estate will have information or seen something about Digby. I just hope they come forward. - 2011-04-19 11:18 J MO
- I am in Preston on Thursday so will print loads of posters and poster around. Have you done Riverside Vets and Pets at Home on the Docks? If not I will do it on Thursday. I will also do round Avenham Park and Penwortham area as well.

- Hi Radio Lancashire are going to air his disappearance 3 times. The Preston FM are going to try to air it but will put it on their pages as well. I will try any others I can think of but all suggestions greatfully received.
- 2011-04-19 10:17 Epona
- Hi. I've spoken to the Lancashire evening post and they are possibly going to run an article. Also written to BBC radio Lancashire. Rock FM are looking if they can put it on their facebook but they will have to say he is missing not stolen due to the possibility of a negative response. I also spoke to Lanacshire Evening Telegraph but they don't think they can run it as I am not from the Blackburn Hynburn area. The guy was going to ask his boss.
I'm also going to try to speak to the Central FM peopke to see if they can do anything about it.
Many Thanks for the suggestions. Come home Digby. - 2011-04-19 09:55 mumstaxi

- Just back from a late walk on Moor Park & some of the posters I put up have been taken down :-( There are still quite a few up but I didn't have time to check them all. Will try & get back out tomorrow to get some more up. The fair is defo a great place to spread the word as there will be a lot of people passing through. Mumstaxi, which vets did you do? I will see if I can cover some more on my travels tomorrow.x

- Has anyone tried the Lancashire Evening News?
- 2011-04-18 22:34 Majorjet (Jan) - Area Co-ordinator - Liverpool/Merseyside, North West
- The fair is a great place to spread the word, keeping everything crossed they will let you put posters up. Target food area where people mill around.
One of the gliches with the AW site it does not show the true date when dogs are lost or found only the date they are registered. Jan x - 2011-04-18 22:21 Epona
- Hi Just got in from postering and going to Moor Park. The fair has arrived. Tomorrow I'm going to be cheeky and ask them to put notices up for Digby on their rides.

- You are all doing great in the search for Digby, well done everyone, great to see the word getting out. When people are approached they are usually very helpful and offer to look out and also pass the word onto others.
Epona great you are following up the contact numbers in the advice/info email. I was in Halewood RSPCA yesterday and did look out for him there. Hopefully if he ends up in kennels they will pick his chip up but always advise not to rely on this happening and to keep checking.
Thank you to the helper who emailed details in of the white GSD which Epona checked out. Jan x - 2011-04-18 17:35 Epona
- Hi I rung Leigh dogs home, Halewood RSPCA, Preston RSPCA, left a message at Warringtom animal welfare, also rang Freshfield animal rescue. Cheshire dogs home seems to be permenantly engaged.
I've also rung a few numbers on the internet that are looking for german shepards or are selling puppies to let them know that if they are offered a white german shepherd to let me know. I've also rung a security dog place who will also keep an ear out. - 2011-04-18 16:13 mumstaxi
- hiya checked with sundown this morning they havent got digby but they have been notified hes missing with the details
- 2011-04-18 15:30 Witchy-poos
- Been out again handing leaflets on Moor Park this morning & I'm amazed by the response from people - everyone very positive about helping & really interested. Talked to lots of people with dogs & without. Local ice cream van has put one in his side window. Fox & Grapes Pub on Ribbleton Lane took a pile of leaflets to put on bar, poster up in Pet Warehouse, stopped car & jumped out to talk to lady walking a white Shepherd on Ribbleton Lane (likely the reported one below, 10 mins walk from RSPCA) it's a bitch but she took a load of leaflets to hand out & put in shops on Ribbleton Lane. Will try to get out again later. I will do my best to keep an eye on Fair people - I walk my dogs on Moor park most days.
Have you called Sundown Kennels & Leigh Dogs & Cats home yet? Sundown take all the strays from Preston & Leigh take them from South Ribble. Sundown Kennels:01253 884183 Leigh D&C :01942 671215 Please if you can, take the time to go down & look as their descriptions are not always accurate & dogs can be rehomed/sold after 7 days.x - 2011-04-18 13:29 Epona
- Hi. Spoke to RSPCA home at Ribbleton the girl there said she saw a blonde lady walking a white german shepherd across the road from the center. I will go up there later to poster but if anyone is in that area and could keep and eye out that would be great.
- 2011-04-18 13:19 mumstaxi
- hi done some vets this morning with posters passers by on my travels , customers at asda fulwood and car windscreens on asda car park come on digby, just a thought the fair is on moor park soon and they usually arrive several days or so before the fair starts is anyone around that area that can keep an eye out? x

- Hi he was taken from just off the Larches council estate. We live just at the back of it in the grounds of Larches school. It is quite near Ashton Park and close to the docklands area. We've put posters in all the pubs out towards Bartle. I've been phone by the publican at one of the pubs he has a white german shepard and a black and tan one. He had an incident about 3 weeks ago with a guy setting his jack russel on the white one and then followibg himn 2 miles down the cana; trying to fight hinm and set his dog on the publicans dog. He wonders if the guy with the jack russel has been doing some asking about and taken Digby in error thinking it's his dog. It's just a theory but I'm following it up.

- Details updated to show up on the poster and photo/s uploaded, will do various size posters now. We must make him TOO HOT TO HANDLE and spread the word. The Police are taking this very serious and are being very helpful which is great. Once whoever has taken him realises his age and that he is CHIPPED and NEUTERED they will give him up. Mel has done a brilliant job already and contacted all the right people. Have given immediate number for the AW's and other places to try are in the Advice/Email which has now been emailed. Good luck Mel we are all behind you. Jan x
